Also to note is that the article said all major regions. This also includes Japan. MC has reported approx 20k to 11k PS2′s sold per week since the start of the year whereas Wii has been selling approximately 70k a week.

The PS2 is selling better than the PS3/WII/360 and the WII is selling better than the PS3 and 360 and Xbox and nearly anythign else,show me another console that has sold almost 10 million in the first year.
Anyone know what the profit off the PS2 unit sales is,prehaps sony is plugging there 3 billion debt on the PS3 with it, the WII has the PS3 by a landslide and I foresee the WII running out of steam in 2-3 years but for now the WII is the dominant new system.
Sony has a long road ahead to build the PS3 up,its going to take at least 2-3 years for the coding to advance to catch up with the power offered from the PS3 not to mention the badly needed price cuts.
Don’t get me wrong the PS3 is luke warm and wants 10$ for a bottle of warm tap water,the 360 like halo is mediocre but a better value than the PS3 and the WII seems to be what gaming needs,however I am still waiting for the call back to gamplay….

Its a bit sad that you have to brag about the last gen PS2 leading in sales. (In fact the recent predicition are that the Wii will outsell the PS2 but thats not my point) We all agree the PS2 was a good console and has a huge install base, but it’s last generation and shouldnt be compared with next gen consoles. If Sony wants to brag, then then should drop the PS3 and stand by the PS2. Then they can brag about sales. The sad fact is that even though the PS2 has a lot of good games, its an archaic machine that has less horsepower than not only the 360 and Wii, but the original Xbox and even the Gamecube! How can a company like Sony brag about being at the forefront in technology when they are bragging about a decade old, out of date piece of hardware?
