After many months of anticipation I finally got my copy of Bioshock and played through it over the past few days. There are many things to like about Bioshock such as the graphics (not animation), parts of the story and the water effects. That’s about where the good stuff ends.
First let me say how excited I was for the game after playing the demo on the 360. While the animation seemed stiff and you could tell the 360 was being pushed too hard it still looked like it had a lot of potential. So imagine my disappointment when I got the final version only to find none of the animation hitches, shooting glitches and AI was cleaned up. I also wonder how much better the graphics would’ve been had they not been compressed to fit on a DVD. Now I do not fault the developers for this, they only had so much system power to work with so maybe this will all be addressed with the PS3 version when it comes out.
To conclude, let this game cook in the oven just a little bit longer and wait for the superior PS3 version. Cleaned up textures, animations, AI, extra weapons, Home space, standard HDD and Blu-ray will make this flawed game into a perfect gem.

Although this is a fabulous review (for all the obvious reasons), it did forget to include the one little nugget of info that really sticks it to *actual* PS3 fanboys. If you read the front of the box of Bioshock for either PC or Xbox, you can see a little green stamp on there that reads “Only for Xbox and PC”.
Now, not to hate, because if you did shell out 600 (or even 500) for Sony’s big black behemoth of uselessness, and thus can’t afford a 360, I really do feel empathy for you. You got caught up in Sony’s market-storm of, well, lies, and now have to miss out on great games like this. That sucks. That sucks hard. And games like Lair and Heavenly Sword just aren’t going to be making up for it.
What I don’t understand, (Really. It makes no sense to me), is why people that bought the PS3 don’t hate Sony more than the people that didn’t. I mean, if I was down that much money for something like the PS3, I’d be incredibly pissed.

The PS3 is supposed to be superior to the Xbox 360, yet the numbers say otherwise.
July 2006: The Xbox 360 had been out for 8 months and sold 206,000 units according to NPD.
July 2007: The PS3 had been out for 8 months and sold 159,000 units according to NPD.
July 2007: The Xbox 360 had been out for 20 months and sold 170,000 units according to NPD.
Fact 1: The Xbox 360 sold better at 8 months than the PS3 did at the same point in time.
Fact 2: The Xbox 360 still outsold the PS3 in July 2007, despite having been out a year longer.
Fact 3: Xbox 360 sales are slowing down because most people who want an Xbox 360 already have one.
Fact 4: More people have an Xbox 360 than a PS3.
Fact 5: At the rate of sales for PS3s, Sony won’t be able to reach Xbox 360 numbers until the PS3 has been out a lot longer than the Xbox 360 was when it reached those numbers.
Is the Playstation 3 a good system? I’d be willing to say it’s a great system. It has it’s flaws like any other system and the good points far outweigh them.
Is the Xbox 360 a bad system? I’d be willing to say that it is also a great system. It’s had some ups and downs, but overall it’s a great addition to any home.
Is the Playstation 3 better than the Xbox 360? No. Sorry, the Playstation 3 doesn’t have the variety of quality titles, the attractive price point or enough big-name exclusives.
Why are these things important? These are the things that Sony used to dominate the game industry against Nintendo, Sega and even Microsoft in the past.
The Playstation 2 wasn’t more powerful than the Xbox. The Xbox had graphics that were clearly better than the Playstation 2′s in every category. The hard drive allowed custom soundtracks and downloadable content. The online was well designed and easy to use.
Why did Sony win that battle? It had a better variety of quality games, a lower, more attractive price and more big-name exclusives.
Microsoft is now in the same position Sony was when it released the Playstation 2. They’ve learned how the industry works and have positioned themselves to take advantage.
But the PS3 has BluRay! Great, I can spend $600 dollars on a videogame system so that I can watch the highest quality movies on the market. Yes, I know the PS3 is $100 dollars cheaper, but that deal is limited to the discontinued 60 Gig version. The 80 Gig is back at $600.
Or, I could just go to BestBuy and get the Xbox 360 Elite and the HD-DVD drive. I get the same quality for the movies and trade motion controls that nobody has actually been able to take advantage of and a Wireless connection that I may not even need for 40 extra Gigs (over the 80 Gig PS3) of storage and a unified online service that can match me against opponents who are at my skill level. All for only 30 dollars more.
It’s all about personal preference. You like the PS3, that’s great, it’s a great system and once it gets some great games, I’ll join you in loving it. You want to try and tell me that I’m wrong to like the Xbox 360? Sorry, you get to spend 4-6 hours updating this “Sony Defense Force” site. I get to spend the same amount of time with BioShock, Madden 08 (which runs twice as smooth as the PS3 version) and soon, Halo 3.
I don’t need to defend the Xbox 360 because I get to actually enjoy it. It’ll be nice when PS3 users can say the same.

bioshock is a good game,but not great.
after playing fps such as f.e.a.r and halo 3 it somehow does’nt quite hit the spot.the graphics look very nice along with the water effects,but game play is a very avarage fps. ill give it a 7/10.

Also registered just to, erm, register my views. New to consoles after years of PC gaming. I chose the 360 for many reasons including title availability, online community and price. Don’t care which has a greater FPS rate or any of the other stuff that gets nerds sweating. Both PS3 and 360 are nice machines and watching COD4 side-by-side it wasn’t really possible to seperate the two. Yes I’m sure SOMEONE will get all excited trying to explain which minutae makes one better than the other but frankly it really doesn’t matter does it? PS3 gamers, 360 gamers, PC gamers – enjoy, whatever you own. This review is, however, a waste of pixels and the 15yr old who was let loose to write it should start thinking about girls and parties and other shit rather than feeling self-satisfied about their support of PS3 over the 360. Bioshock is brilliant by the way..
The review was a little short and unfair, and the game deserves a higher rating. But Bioshock is far from any perfect game. It does indeed have some glitches in the cosmetic department, like textures popping in and out, sound dropping out, subtitles are not in sync, etc. It’s a bit choppy on the 360 and if you turn off the framerate lock you get screen tearing. The story is pretty poor too. All in all, it’s a good game though and very addictive. But short. I bought it on thursday afternoon, played it in the evening, then some on friday afternoon and again on sunday evening. Then I reached the end. I think it took about 8 hours to complete it.
it would be better on ps3 that for sure but that doesnt stop it being great on the 360
