U.S. July Game Sales (NPD) – Sony shows very strong sales

PS3 vs 360 Boxing

The Sony Family showed very strong July sales with a total of 595,000 pieces of hardware sold. In comparison only 170,000 Xbox 360s were sold and the Sony platform even managed to outsell the much hyped Nintendo Wii which only reached a total of 425,000 sold. Here is the complete breakdown of U.S. game sales in July:

PlayStation Platforms 595k
Wii 425 k
Nintendo DS 405 k
Xbox 360 170k
Game Boy Advance 87k

Looks like the gaming world still belongs to Sony.

  1. HAHAHA. I guess this is a joke site.

  2. The correct amount of PS3′s sold was 159,000 right? That’s actually really good news for the PS3 that has seen half the sales of the Xbox 360 in most months.

You guys really should make the numbers even more insane for a good laugh though.

  3. This is without a doubt the funniest website around. It’s the most satirical look at desperate Sony fans I’ve ever read. Really clever writing. I genuinely feel like I’m reading straight from the mind of a 10 year old child who’s never won at anything in his life except the occasional Sony game.

I don’t know why anyone reads the likes of Sarcastic Gamer when this comedy gold is floating around the web.

You’ve made my day one again lads. Keep pumping the jokes out and I’ll keep reading.

  4. Thanks for the laugh. I guess it makes logical sense to compare all individual competitors against the combined total sales of PS2, PS3, and PSP. Oh wait, no it doesn’t. Failed.

“Microsoft looks to be doing good this month:
Windows PCs and Xbox consoles: 1,000,000
    PS3s: 130,000
    Maytag brand washing machines: 36,000″

Oh, man. This site keeps getting better.
I love that you had to include all three Sony platforms to beat the Wii. Fantastic.
The Wii “only” reached 425,000 units… Yeah, selling over 14,000 units per day is pretty hopeless, isn’t it? Hahaha.

  6. I got so pumped for Sony looking at that pic that I punched my mom.

  7. Keep it up guys this place is hilarious. Someone get these guys a calculator quick.
You might want to edit the NPD figures for July article too.

Keep it up guys very entertaining.

  8. Finally someone that dares to speak the truth. I salute you, SDF, you are exactly what we need to win this fight against the pitiful Microsoft and Nintendo capitalists.

Your latest news show that the Sony family is indeed going to win the console war, again.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll go play on my PSP while I laugh at those despicable DS owners.

  9. Let me fix your graph

    PlayStation Platforms 595k
    Nintendo Platforms 917k
    Microsoft Platforms 170k (excluding windows)

  10. OH NOES!

I guess I better go trade my 360 in, I mean first all those bad reviews of that BioShock game…. I mean what is it getting now like 0.1 out of 10? And Halo 3 will be the biggest dud game ever. Why I hear over at IGN they are claiming Pac-Man AND E.T. for the Atari 2600 are better then Halo 3…

Still if I get a PS3 could I make some posts here?

  11. Did you add in sales of the PSX too while you were at it? Cuz that had to be, like what, Zero? Good thing they think a DVR on the ps3 will be as successful as a DVR was on the PS2.

Enjoy those Lair reviews, with their current 7.5 metacritic rating..

  12. This month:
    Windows Vista : 11.4M
    Windows XP : 4.7M
    Xbox 360: : 170K
    Zune : 110K

    Microsoft Platform total: 16,400,000
    Playstation 3 total: 159,000

What you fail to mention is the 917k total Nintendo platforms sold…

  14. LOL Notice how you compare the PS2, PS3, and PSP to the Wii. (and the Xbox 360, and the DS)

    Fail

  15. This is hilarious!

You actually need to combine PS3/PS2/PSP just to beat…the Wii? The ‘kiddie’ system? I bet that DS alone sold more than 600k units in July.

What alot of people also forget is that Microsoft has created the most powerful and more successful platform of all time: Windows. I wouldn’t be surprised if the guys that create this site use XP or Vista.

  16. Clearly basic math isn’t your strong suit, though neither are logic or English as demonstrated in your pathetic BioShock review.

Speaking of BioShock, you might want to sit down before reading Ken Levine’s response as to whether there is a PS3 port in the works… news flash, there isn’t – http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/08/ken-levine-squa.html

“I promise you, there is no secret plan about the PS3 that we’re keeping from people. There’s no PS3 development going on that we’re hiding. There’s lots of stuff that gets into game code, plans change over time and we got an exclusive deal with Microsoft … that’s not a Rosetta Stone discovery.”

    Back to the NPD numbers…

Since the PS3 sales failed to exceed 360 sales and were trounced by Wii sales, you decided to lump the sales of PS3, PS2, and PSP together. No matter, both PS3 and PSP sales were exceedingly lower than their direct competitors.

Why not lump Wii and DS sales together as the Nintendo Platforms? Probably because they exceed the Playstation Platforms total – 830,000 to 595,000. A nearly 1.5 : 1 margin.

I own all gaming platforms and there are enough good things to write about PSP and PS3 without having to resort to utterly biased and fabricated news.

Clearly the motto in your About section, “It’s original intention was, and still is, to give honest news about all things Playstation.”, is dishonest as the rest of this site.

  17. This site is just a joke dude…if PS3 is as good as you claim it to be why do you need a ‘defense force’ to defend it? Seriously. Greatness speaks for itself.

  18. here is those sales as they was posted not like here when some fanatics who do anything for some corporation name to look good

    Wii 425 000 (381 780)
    Nintendo DS 405 000 (561 000)
    PlayStation 2 222 000 (270 760)
    PlayStation Portable 214 000 (290 100)
    Xbox 360 170 000 (198 440)
    PlayStation 3 159 000 ( 98 470)
    Game Boy Advance 87 000 (113 870)

  19. “Looks like the gaming world still belongs to Sony.”

Hang on, I need to correct that sentence for you:

“Looks like the gaming world still doesn’t belong to Sony.”

Also, looks like you can’t do maths. PROTIP: Wii, DS and Gameboy are all Nintendo platforms, meaning you got owned.

Welcome to the world of having your ass handed to, guys.

You cant compare both PS systems to just the Wii. The PS2 only sells becaues its so easy to mod and its like $50 used. If you group the PS systems together you have to group the nintendo products together. Which would then make the sales for nintendo 917k units which is almost twice the PS Consoles.

The Ps3 sold less than the 360, only comparing 3 to 1 could sony beat out anybody. Face it, the PS3 is bad and youre a completely unreliable source

  21. I think these Sony fanboys added PS3 AND PS2 AND PSP sales together to reach that ridiculous figure. In the current generation the PS3 only accounts for 17% market share… that’s really owning the gaming world. Sony continues to rely on PS2 sales to boost their spin for damage control.

Actually, Sony doesn’t own the market in this generation at all. They stalled coming out of the gate.

  22. Wait… forgot to post these links:

    http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=20045

“That said, the DS still fared quite well with 405K units sold. But it was the Wii, not the DS, that took top honors with 425K units. The news is encouraging for Sony as well, as the PS3 finally got over the 100K hump with 159K units sold, hot on the heels of the 360 which sold just 170K. Meanwhile, Sony’s other platforms continued to put up respectable numbers – the PS2 sold another 222K and the PSP sold 214K. At the bottom of the list, the old GBA sold 87K units.”

    Hmm… that’s interesting…

    And, of course, there’s this:

    http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=20056

Dave Karraker, the Sony spokesman who predicted the PS3 would overtake the 360, told me that: (1) He was only wrong by a bit, and (2) NPD doesn’t provide an exact count but estimates some portions of the market and (3) No, he would not care to make a prediction about August’s sales figures.

So what’s the moral to this story? There are lies, damn lies, and major acid induced hallucinations and delusions. You guys got all three bases covered pretty well.

Next time you Sony fanboys want to tell a total fabrication, at least make sure it’s not about a major news event that has credible reporting from a respected media outlet.

  23. mikelimemtw – This is a joke site. Your response is exactly what they are illiciting. :)

sony won, just accept it. Admits it your in denial.

  25. Heres some real stats for you…. I am just including next gen consoles, I will spare Sony the embarassment of combining all of Microsoft’s sales. I know Sony is infamous for stealig ideas and tweaking numbers to their favor, but this article is just sad.The part that makes me laughthe most is that the 360 has beat the PS3 for 9 MONTHS IN A ROW!

    - Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 for the 9th month in a row, despite the PS3 “price drop”
    - Xbox 360 achieved #1 title for the month of July with “NCAA Football 08” (Electronic Arts Inc.); selling more copies than on PS2 and PS3 combined.
    - Customer spending on Xbox 360 is 2:1 to PS3 and Wii
    - Xbox 360 software sales increased 24 percent year-over-year

  26. As Kotaku said, when your main competitor announces that their console dies randomly and they will need 1 billion to fix it and you do a price drop and you STILL can’t beat them-then you should just quit.

notice how they said “playstation platforms” and grouped together sony console’s but the other consoles were by themselves. this site is bullshit

  28. Who the fuck do you hire to sit around and jerk off in your basement to write theis bullshit??

  29. Lol at guys who are taking this article seriously. Does “parody” mean anything to you?

  30. so what you have here is 3 sony platforms (ps3, psp, ps2) out selling just the 1 platform from each other company

this is the only bit of “news” on this site that actually makes sense

sony overall has sold more consoles…… shame the ps3 is still not selling many
its got to be bad when your newest console being outsold by your inferior, 7 year old console

  31. [...] Playstation sales and brand awareness at an all time high, MS is using Playstation 3 kiosks to promote Halo [...]

  32. why do you bunch the psp and ps2 and ps3 together but leave nintendo systems out.

oh thats because it would look something like this.

    playstation platforms 595k
    Nintedo platforms 917k
    Microsoft platform 170k

suddenly it doesn’t look so good.
