I just came across this page..I don't own either yet..doing a little research. Both seem like amazing next gen consoles...I own an old xbox by the way. Both have great graphics, but I think I prefer the design of the PS3. Found several articles praising both consoles...I thought this recent article(below..from cnet..40 gig model) had some good info about the potential of the PS3, it also compares the 360. Positives and negatives for both. No backwards comp. for the 40 gig, but would hooking up your ps2 be that much of a problem?
