Heavenly Sword audio alone takes up more room than a 360 DVD can hold

Chief designer says Heavenly Sword has completely filled Sony’s 25GB disc
It was Sony’s decision to include its high-capacity Blu-Ray disc format in PS3 that has been attributed with driving up the price of the machine – so Sony will be delighted that yet another industry voice has spoken out in praise of the format.
Nina Kristensen, chief designer at Heavenly sword developer Ninja Theory, has said that the studio’s upcoming PS3 title has completely filled Sony’s 25GB disc – with the audio alone taking up more room than the total storage capacity on Microsoft’s dual-layer DVD.
CVG quotes Kristensen as claiming: “We have jam-packed the Blu-Ray disc absolutely full.
We used compression all over the place. We had to be really judicious at the end with what was going on the disc and what wasn’t.
“I think it’s one of those things – if you give us the space we’re going to fill it with stuff. It means the audio can be of a higher quality and stuff like that. It all adds to the quality of the package.â€
The claims come not long after Bizarre Creations intimated that it has had to be frugal with its content for upcoming racer Project Gotham Racing 4 on 360 as a result of DVD’s limited storage capacity – though these statements were later retracted.

yeah, does that remind anyone of shovelware?

Wow. So, a 6 hour game fills 25 gigs? Sony is in trouble too then, eh? Should have gone with holographic disc storage then. Just wait until you get a developer who wants to make a 10 hour game. You’re all screwed. I don’t think that bragging about how they had to leave out content makes you look any better than the 360.
Awesome! That means whoever plays this game has about 20Gbs worth of total crap on their disc. Well done guys.
Do you retarted children even read this crap before you post it? The reason it takes up so much space is because they included languages for ALL regions on one disc. Strip out all of the languages you don’t need and you’re down to about 1 – 2 GB. Compress that and you’re under a GB. Yeah, bluray is so worth it.
Truspector is right. The only real advantage of all the extra storage space on Blue Ray is for the companies releasing the products. They can fit multiregional information one 1 disc rather than seperating it like they did before. How does that help the consumer? It doesnt. Even if Heavenly Sword takes up 25 GB from just the game, and not multiple regional copies of the game, did it really help? Everyone agrees its a good game, but it mostly got 8 out of 10′s… Thats good, but far from great. Some say its because it has no multiplayer… Thats funny, because they said the same thing about Bioshock yet Bioshock got 10′s! And Im pretty sure it took up less than 7 GB’s…. ha ha… Storage means nothing unless you have something of quality to store.
LMAO next gen. console with last gen. media.
I love this site! Nothing makes me laugh harder than a blinded Sony Fanboy! Your actually proud of a 6 hour game that has a total variety of 4-5 different enemies? You should be embarassed! For all of this so called “power” the PS3 has under it’s hood, all it has done is deliver half hearted first party titles. The only game that’s out there that I would want to play is Resistance. MotorStorm was supposed to be the next AAA system seller. Too bad it only had about 8 different tracks to choose from. Heavenly Sword is another joke. Looks pretty, but not much after that. Keep up the great news updates though, I enjoy a good laugh every morning here at work.
Translation:
Our glorified demo costs 60 bucks and takes up an entire bluray disc. It does this because everything in the game is duplicated 11 TIMES! We needed something to fill up the disc and we figured this was better than actual gameplay.
How many regular DVDs would the shitty gameplay take up? also the audio is probably uncompressed, because there is no need to… this article really doesnt even mean shit.
If this site is all about “up to the minute news on the PS3″ where is your shitty Lair review? AAA title my ass! Another joke of a Sony exclusive! Must be MS paying off gaming sites to give it poor reviews right?
“”If this site is all about “up to the minute news on the PS3″”"
Lets you know how bad things are that they only post on this site about once a week. Good news for the ps3 doesn’t happen very often.
They’re quoting other sources for quotes. Also, paraphrasing. It’s hilarious. Anyone else find that funny?
@ McKenney
Right now they’re trying to figure out how they can get ’4.9 for Lair’ to mean ‘another killer app for the PS3.’
So the PS3 is better cuz Blue Ray holds more then a DVD?
Wow I mean if that’s the case where all the hit killer titles at?
Do any Sony fans actually read this site?
Do any Sony fans read?
I got a theory for you, Microsoft passed up on it because it isnt all that good.
9.0 Presentation
The cutscene work is fantastic, as are the extras (even though you can get most of them freely online).
9.0 Graphics
Beautiful in every respect. Character models are great, and the vistas are a-plenty.
9.0 Sound
Sound effects are fantastic as is the music and voice work.
7.0 Gameplay
The combat system is mostly very good, though the battles get repetitive very quickly and some of the extra stuff (like the button matching mini-games) needed more polish.
5.0 Lasting Appeal
The experience is over fairly quickly. There are a number of really good unlockables to go back and earn, though you can already get them online right now.
7.0
Decent OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)
AAA title ROFL. Looks like a AAA example of style over substance.
“Heavenly Sword audio alone takes up more room than a 360 DVD can hold”
Anyone else think that 7.2 gigs worth of audio is a tad on the excessive side?
Hmm, I didn’t know AAA titles generally got a 7 from IGN. I guess they must all be high over at IGN, since crappy BioShock managed to get a 9.7, even with it’s animation hitches, terrible AI, and low-res textures compressed to fit on last-gen DVD.What were they thinking? I guess they’ll be high too when BioShock gets a GOTY award, and Heavenly Sword isn’t even mentioned.
Who cares, this game is rubbish?
Wow, 25gb for a 5 hour game? Talk about disorganized and inefficient!
Must be why the game is so short. And why is sucks so much. bye the way how was Lair?
HOLY GROB, im sure glad this game didnt come out for the 360. lol i dont even listen to audio i plug in a mp3 player and play to MetallicA which im sure is more kick ass then any Heavenly Sword music
A 5 hour game took up 25GB? My god.
5 hours??? why the hell would that take up 25GB? oh yea the audio, those birds chirping changed lives didnt they.
Don’t get me wrong this game is good, but how much space you waste doesn’t mean squat.
