Harry Potter Coming to 360 HD-DVD…on 2 Discs with Intermission

intermission-time.jpg

One of the biggest Hi-Def releases of the year is coming to HD-DVD and Blu-Ray.Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix will be released on DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray simultaneously. In yet another victory for Blu-Ray, HD-DVD struggles to fit the movie on one disc having to span it over two with an intermission. Not only that – the lossless audio which is present on the one disc Blu-Ray edition has also had to be removed from the HD-DVD edition.

- HD DVD version is 2 disc set with DD+ Audio only and intermission.
- Blu Ray version includes Audio DD+ and PCM (English). Order of the Phoenix to be single-disc but include same contents as DVD and HD DVD.

What does this mean for the overall quality of the video and audio on the HD-DVD edition? The term bit-rate starved comes to mind. If you want the best video and audio fidelity for your HD experience then stick to the PS3 Blu-Ray edition of Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix.

Thankfully 360 owners will be used to swapping game discs by the end of this generation so I’m sure they won’t mind doing the same for movies.

  1. the article does say the HD-DVD version will be provided on two discs – but says nothing whatsoever that the feature movie presentation itself is split over the discs, nor that there will be a necessity to swap to view the entire movie.

of course, it’s obvious that the movie could well be all on disc one, while the bonus material in on disc two.

of course, you knew this, and simply create the bs to keep your fake site running.

somehow, even though i know this site is intended as humor, i just can’t stop myself from pointing out the inconsistencies (aka lies) – this site is a well-rounded bit of fun!!!

    keep it up!!!

  2. Haha yeah exactly, often when they release this big block buster movies and it’s a double disc the movie is on one and all the extra features on the other, that’s like standard for all double disc movie releases (gangs of New York on DVD don’t count, it was just a too long and too boring movie for it to fit on one disc with that compression).

[sarcasm]Oh and let’s not to talk about Pirates 1 and 2 on Blu-ray, I am getting so sick and tired of swapping the disc when wanting to watch the extra material on disc 2 so I think I’ll just throw those two movies in the garbage. [/sarcasm]

Btw, what does it take to switch the disc in the console? Like 5-10 sec? Then you’re back in the chair, it’s less work then going to the toilet for crying out loud.

Looks like transformers has suffered the same fate – split across two discs and without lossless audio. Does anyone need anymore proof that HD DVD is insufficient for HD media?

  4. @lecuitis

Atleast it’s coming to HD-DVD, that’s more then Blu-ray will ever get.

  5. CAN YOU NOT F*CKING READ?!?!? The Transformer’s one even says

    Disc 1-
    FEATURE FILM

    Disc 2-
    SPECIAL FEATURES!!

Dear god if your gonna bash something atleast have some fundation to back it up.

  6. hahahaha – nice one, lecutis – keep this fake site thing going!

    LOVING IT!

  7. @ Lecutis

Did the SDF find you at an insane asylem or that place that teaches people with low IQs to retread tires?

also lossless audio is a fairly rare thing, I bet the general public has no idea what it means and therefore does not care.

  8. Yep, 360 users are used to swapping discs. I can understand why this may seem alien to ps3 users, since they haven’t had to change discs since they put in RFOM.

lol man this site and the ppl who runs it needs to be genocided.

  10. ^^ I agree. Surely these guys aren’t doing Sony any favours by pushing crap like this?

Oh, because Sony are doing so well that you need to defend them? Guys, go onto the Xbox forums I think we need to get together a 360 defense force! :P

  11. I’ll be the first to point out that some Blu-ray movies contain no extra features whatsoever as the producers had to keep enough room for the 1080p pictures and surround sound.

This is completly false. Not only will the HD-DVD version of Harry Potter 5 be all on one disc, but will also contain more special features than the Blu-ray version. Next time, wait until the facts are released before making something up.
