Xbox 360 Rapidly Losing its Year Long Head Start to Wii and PS3
In not so surprising news it looks like XBox 360 sales have flatlined after reaching 10M. Why isn’t this surprising?Well the original XBox only sold 20M or so over its entire lifespan. That’s a very very small number of customers who could potentially upgrade to your next system.
Add to that the disappointment that was Halo 2 and you’ve lost one of MS’ biggest drivers in console sales. XBox 360 also exhibits a distinct lack of variety in its library of titles and the negative impact of all those broken consoles still hasn’t taken full effect yet.
All in all XBox 360 is another colossal failure for Microsoft (along the same lines as Zune) – luckily they can afford the $8 BILLION hole it has put them in but whether or not shareholders will continue to put up with that remains to be seen.
Nintendo’s Wii, while nearly impossible to find in retail stores, sold slightly above the company’s second quarter June 2007 goal of 9 million units, reaching sales of 9,270,000.
Sony’s PlayStation 3 also edged slightly above its 6 million goal for Q2 by shipping 6,210,000 units to stores.
Microsoft had originally set a target of 15 million Xbox 360s by the middle of 2007, but dropped that target down to 12 million. Even with lowered expectations, the company was still unable to meet its goal, having only shipped 11,600,000 units by the end of June.
First of all, ANY site ANYWHERE on the internet can badly skew numbers. What is “roughlydrafted.com”? A market data firm? A research company? An insider? My guess is “none of the above”. To me, it’s just random person without any credible data.
Even if the data were 100% true, it doesn’t paint a very pretty picture for the PS3. The PS3 to date has no A-list titles, and despite your 10/10 rating of Lair, it is simply going to flop in stores.
Giving a 10/10 rating to a title that’s bashed by nearly every other reviewer in the industry will only reduce your credibility (if that’s even possible after attracting all that attention to yourself at Digg.com.)
Honestly, just how do you think you look giving Bioshock a 5 and LAIR a 10?
Sony has made their bed with the PS3. The fact that there are fan sites called “Sony DEFENSE force” and “Sony PROTECTION group” speaks volumes on its own. Sony took a terrific franchise, botched it horribly by making it impossible to code for (and for many, impossible to afford) and now require all the “Defense” and “Protection” they can get.
As it stands right now, the PS3 is the laughing stock of the gaming community, and that won’t change while best releases for it continue to be Blu-ray movies.
BTW, you should learn to read graphs. From June 07 to sept 07, PS3 is projected to sell LESS than the 360, just 1 year after coming out, and the Xbox is still selling more units than the ps3, even though it’s an older system. (.6 increase to sony’s expected .59).
The only thing this shows, is how much you are both getting demolished by a $249 “kiddz t0iz with Waggle”.
And why publish zune numbers? Should we put sony’s walkman numbers up there to?

You are aware that your graph proves that the 360 is beating the ps3 for several reasons, firstly, its total sales are higher, secondly, it took longer to flat line that the ps3.

Yes, how odd that this article doesnt bring attention to the fact that the PS3 sales have flatlined as well. Its pretty bad news when a big branded name like Sony flatlines at such a small install base. And interesting enough, no one has brough up the fact that Sony has shipped out its entire supply of 60 GB HD models to retailers, most of which are still sitting on shelves. So just because they have shipped 6 million consoles, the real # sold is closer to 5 million. And HALO 2 is a disapointment? I belive Halo 2 holds the record for the highest single day gross in entertainment history (that includes movie releases as well)and is considered one of the best single player and multiplayer games of all time by a countless # of critics. (Just not by Jealous Sony fanboys!)
And why do we need owners of the orignal xbox to buy 360′s when we are stealing all the old Sony fanboys who dont want to waste their money on a useless PS3. Sure, the PS3 may have a few good exclsuive games in 2009 or so, but why anyone would buy one until then is a total mystery. The 360 has better graphics and better games right now. Just stop being jealous, sell your PS3 and buy an xbox. You will be so much happier and you will actually have some good games to play for the next couple of years!

Note that statement. The Wii and 360 we’re credited with their statistics as SALES. Despite the graphs info, SDN has chosen to interpret their own console as only shipping 6 million, wheras the 360 apparently has SOLD just under half that.

As for adding the Zune in, what the hell was the point of that? Unless you want to show that MS has more up date products on the market than Sony, there is no point at all.

Well OF COURSE there aren’t as many 360′s being sold per month right now than other systems. The 360 is a year ahead of the PS3 and Wii.
The PS3 and Wii are still in the middle of their “just came out” phase, so their sales are still going to be great. The 360 has finished that phase and is now entering it’s middle-phase, where the sales will of course not be as good. Look at the PS3 and Wii this time next year and they’ll be in the same spot that the 360 is now.
SDF keeps making big deals out of perfectly normal happenings in the gaming economy. This is not news, hell it’s barely even worth making a note about.
The wii is already out selling the 360 the ps3 is selling more and the no one is buying the 360 we all know that everybody that love Halo already have the console and no body else is going to buy the console

hmmm funny how all my friends who have 360s, about six, all had Playstation 2s before they got a 360.
Yes Halo 2 was such a disapointment. Thats why it won game of the year on every site, Tv show, and pretty much every media outlet know to man!

Oh so now I know why there are so many PS3′s in every store I walk in!? They shipped 6 mil but have only sold 3-4 mil. On the other hand the 360 and Wii have both REALLY sold over 11 mil.
