HD-DVD Deathbed Watch: Fox Announces Most Bonus Features Ever Seen on HD Disc

Among the innovations are two BD-Java enhancements not-yet-seen on Fox high-def title: a Search function, indexing all of each disc’s contents, as well as the Personal Scene Selections bookmark feature. In addition, each title will feature a BD-J interactive game (“Fly Zapper” on ‘The Fly,’ “Global Warming Interactive” on ‘Tomorrow’), while ‘The Fly’ will also boast a pop-up trivia track.
‘The Fly’ is even more extensive, sporting by far the most supplements ever seen on a Fox Blu-ray disc. The virtual encyclopedia of material includes an audio commentary with Cronenberg, the four-part “Fear of the Flesh” documentary, twenty additional making-of vignettes, deleted and extended scenes, eight still galleries, a complete Trailer and TV spot gallery, plus a text-based archive containing reviews, essays, storyboards and the film’s complete original screenplay.
Given the wealth of content included, it should come as no surprise that both releases are set to hit Blu-ray on BD-50 dual-layer discs. Other tech specs for both titles include 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 surround tracks.
In summary:
-Blu Ray Disc Exclusive
-Most bonus features ever on an HD mvoie
-50 GB disc
-AVC encoding
-54 mbps bitrate
-Lossless Audio

the lesson for today is shovelware.
none of those features are really all that interesting
also, what the fuck is “the fly”, never heard if it
It was a cronenburg movie from the 80s.
Jeff Golblum/ Gina Davis.
Now if that isn’t a blockbuster I don’t know what is!
What I find truly funny is that you don’t really see anyone defending PS3 on the comments. Not because there aren’t people out there that like the PS3, but because anyone who isn’t an xbox fanboy (or girl) won’t post on here because they know it’s all bullcrap. And you xbox fans are eating it up. Yum Yum.
Yay, BD now has bonus content on their movies…….something HD-DVD has had since day one. ALL THAT SPACE!!! ALL THAT POWER!!! HOW DOES SONY DO IT?!?!?!? If HD-DVD had even a remotely competent marketing campaign, BD would be in trouble. I don’t believe BD is much more superior than HD-DVD, but I have to hand it to Sony for making the powers that be believe it is. HD-DVD should have been shoving the fact that BD didn’t have the capability to have bonus features and the fact that many of the earlier movies that were on both format clearly looked better on HD-DVD. Oh well, after Warner goes exclusively to HD-DVD the format war will rage on for another year or so.
@ wow
No instead the sony fans POST the stuff we are objecting to.
Keep in mind, less than a 3rd of the US has upgraded to HDTV at all. That goes for both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray.
Too bad you won’t be able to use any of those features on any current BD player be it $500 or 1K.
hopefully they’ll get those profile 2.0 players out the door soon.
Woohoo! Beta, Mini-disc, UMD, and now Blu-ray. When will people realize how popular Sony formats have become?
Yay! More bonus material no one ever watches! All for just $800 a player!
Fuck off.
Hell yeah! The Fly is easily the best Jeff Goldblum 80′s Scifi movie featuring insects!
what a load of crap.
I can get a 42 box DVD set of that same movie for my 360 and pay the same price.
IT’S OFFICIAL!!! Blu-Ray and HD-DVD content are EXACTLY THE SAME! Both in 1080p, lossless sound, etc. The only difference is the size of the disc. So buy Blu-Ray, all you’re paying for is extra unused storage space.
I’ll get you the source soon.
I would like to point out that this isnt even a bash against the 360. It doesnt come with a High Def drive. It doenst matter to the xbox which format comes out on top. Now if you were dumb enough to buy a PS3 just for a cheap blu-ray player and it bombs like every other format sony has made then your SOL. I woul also like to point out that sony has been trying hard as hell to make a standard format so they can rake in the proffit from it. If they lose this ‘format war’ It might take more than just the Blu-Ray down. With the PS3 such an integral part of the Blu-Ray push it will probably fall along with the format. And with other parts of sony wavering that might severly weakin the entire company. They dont have Microsoft dollars to just write it off as a mistake.
Sony formats such as the Pro-Duo, UMD, and Blu-ray are pretty much useless..
