The August game sales NPDs are out and things are looking very good in the Sony Camp. The Playstation Brand tops the charts yet again with 484,000 units sold and 4 hit titles in the top 10 games sold. The sales breakdown is as follows:

The 360 outsold ALL playstation platforms, even the ps2. More people bought a 360 than did a ps2. More bought a 360 than a psp, despite these consoles being MUCH cheaper.

Unfortunately, these “NPD Chart” articles really give away the tongue-in-cheek nature of the site. Granted, the humor isn’t all that subtle to begin with, but the NPD articles really give away the joke. Especially the chart where half of the marketshare clearly belonged to the “Nintendo Family”.
Still, some people still seem to fall for it, so you almost must be doing something right. Keep up the good work! I enjoy visiting you guys at least once a day for a good laugh.

Great way to spin it, but the 360 still spanked the PS3 even with all the bad press about RROD and whatnot.. It’s about the GAMES people! PS3 needs many many good games.

Fact: The Xbox 360 sold way more software than the PS3.
Fact: The Xbox 360 grew largely in sales recently while the PS3 went down again.

Either break out each device consitently (Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, Wii, DS, etc.) or lump families together consistently.

According to the actual NPD numbers, the price cut did nothing for Sony’s PS3 in the month of August. It lost the “Nintendo” family of products, it lost to XBOX 360. Hell, it even lost to it’s much older sibling the PS2.
Isn’t it sad that Sony’s own 7 year old PS2 console is outselling the PS3 2:1? No wonder Sony keeps saying there’s at least another 5 years of life in the PS2 – they’re trying to keep everyone from totally jumping off PS2 platform development.
That would mean the death of the “Playstation family”. No PS2 games, no good PS3 games, and no PS2 to PSP ports. Oh, the horror!
