Peter Moore: “I hope the Xbox 360 doesn’t win the Console Race”
At The SDF, we respect not only Peter Moore’s newfound honesty and candor, but also his enthusiam for desiring that the Playstation 3 meet, or exceed, the success of the Xbox 360. It has been rumored that Peter Moore, former Microsoft Corporate Vice President of their Interactive Entertainment Division, recently left Microsoft due to the failure of Microsoft to establish and implement their long-term goals for the success of the Xbox brand. He has since moved on to greener pastures at EA, a company noted to have traditionally strong ties to Sony. It’s not surprising to hear Peter Moore extol praise on Sony’s Playstation 3, and make a career changing move to reflect that.
Indeed, it seems as if Peter Moore will get his wish. Floundering sales of the Xbox 360 globally have forced Microsoft into an awkward position of releasing numerous SKUs, pack ins, price drops and extended warranties in order to stimulate sales of Microsoft’s failing console. Meanwhile, the PS3 continues to exhibit strong sales domestically and abroad from a stellar and diverse lineup of titles to be released this holiday season.

It makes sense. I don’t think you all understood what Peter Moore was trying to say. Now that he works for EA, Moore wants to establish that he is not biased towards one console or another, so he says he is not concerned with who wins or who looses. He doesn’t care.
You make an extremely large supposition with that post, SDF. Aside from the obvious tone of good sportsmanship, could there be a chance that Peter Moore actually wants some diversity in the Gaming Industry? Having a monopoly of any Industry means that no competition requires no innovation. TO be honest, the console wars are what makes gaming strive to be more. Every company wants theirs to come out on top, so they’re going to do whatever they can to assure the success of their products. This means that no one company can afford to become complacent in their business strategies. I’m sure a man like Peter Moore sees this, and knows that even if he favors one company and hates the other two, he knows they are necessary, because no matter how far into the gutter they go, they will always be one good step from coming back, and any leading company is always one bad step from going into the gutter themselves. As long as there is competition, no matter how little it may be, neither Sony, nor Microsoft, or even Nintendo can afford to stop working their hardest, and doing everything they can to make their product worth our money.
So no, Peter Moore never did say he wanted the PS3 to win, he simply stated that he didn’t want it to lose either, because a victory like everyone seems to think Microsoft is after is a Pyhrric victory at best, and can only result in disaster. That is why Bungie and Guerrilla were able to meet and be civil to each other, and even enjoy each other’s games. Not because the hand they weren’t shaking with was holding the proverbial knife meant for the other’s throat, but because they respected each other as designers, and as necessary competition.
So now that I’ve proven I’m at least halfway intelligent… FOR GOD’S SAKE PEOPLE! IT’S NOT A SLUGGING MATCH! QUIT FLAMING AND GO PLAY THE GAMES YOU PAYED FOR INSTEAD OF BASHING SOMEONE ELSE FOR THE ONES THEY PAYED FOR! GAAH! You’re like a bunch of three year olds arguing over the last cheese curl!

Numerous SKUs? Price Drops?? Pack ins?!? Like sony isnt doing the same? Doesnt the 80gig version of the PS3 have Motorstorm in it to try and ‘help’ convince people to spend the extra 100 bucks vs the 60gig? How about this for pack ins, the 360 Premium comes with component cables ‘Packed In’ and the Elite comes with an HDMI cable ‘Packed In’. So if thats what your getting at then yeah, I guess sony isnt packing anything ‘extra’ into their system boxes. To bad they arnt HD ready out of the box like the 360s are.
Oh, and I dont really give a care about Peter Moore. I didnt like him at Microsoft and I really dont like him at EA Sports. Atleast now I can ignore him just as I ignore everything EA.

What I’ve learned from this article (namely the doctored pic on the top) :
1) Peter Moore is a midget. Notice the size of the 360 in conjunction with the size of his own body.
2) Peter Moore also is very strong, especially for a midget. He looks like he’s about to chuck that photoshopped 360 across the room one-handed.
What “winning side”? It’s like you didn’t even listen to him past the words you picked out of context.
He’s spouting normal Third-Party PR speech. Third party devs like EA NEVER want to align themselves with a single console, so Moore said what a Third parties do, that he wants each console to succeed equally. Frankly, so do I.

Hahaha. You guys got this backwards right? Not only are you guys stupid, you seem to be dyslexic as well. Let me give you a helping hand. Substitute PS3 at the beginning, and XBOX 360 at the end and you’ll have gotten something right for once.

Hey, 1/3 is pretty generous prediction for the 360. Moore never said he hated it. But with the Wii taking nearly 2/3 (at least over 1/2) of the market, the 360 is doing pretty well.
That leaves the PS3 with less than 10%. That’s why Moore has been praising the Wii lately and publicly appologizing for his initial lack of support.
You guys keep forgetting: MS is not your only competitor. Now, I wouldn’t call 360 sales floundering, just taking a rest before the holidays. But bad news for MS doesn’t mean good news for Sony. Keep in mind who the real giant is.

Even with the PS3 price drop, the dropping of the 60 GB and the supposed introduction of a new 40 GB SKU (* Ahem *)PS3 sails were horrible for the moth of August, and are reported to be even worse in September when the 360 is reportedly going to sell at least 400,000 consoles. And wait, didnt the head of Sony get fired? Wheres that article? I’m sure he was fired because they were thrilled with the PS3 sales figures. ha ha
