SDF Review: Heavenly Sword (PS3)
This game is simply amazing, where do I begin…
-Best presentation value of any game I’ve ever played
-Best cut scene visuals of any game I’ve ever played
-Best animations of any game I’ve ever played
-Soundtrack more than holds its own among the best in the industry (MGS, Castlevania, FF, etc. etc.)
As a movie fan that likes video games, this game was pretty much made for me. I think that’s why there’s such a disparity in most of the reviews… If you’re a gamer that doesn’t care about story, backbone, quality graphics, amazing sound, etc then you probably won’t enjoy the game that much. It’s the ultimate blend of cinema and video gaming.
The cinematics are godly. You could say they’re amazing because they just look almost like movie quality CG, and you’d be right. You could say the cutscenes are amazing because the way characters move just looks completely unreal and almost bizarre, and you’d be right. You could also say the cutscenes are amazing because the facial animations in the game are just eye popping, and you’d be right as well. Facial animations in this game are so good it makes you feel like you’re not playing a video game.
Are there negatives? Sure. The fact that this game is impossible on any other system to date thanks to the use of Blu-ray, Cell, standard HDD and the amazing RSX graphics chip which limits the audience to strictly PS3. That being said, I encourage every PS3 owner to buy this game and if you don’t have a PS3 buy one for this game.

The game was too short and it had a combat system a baby could do. But I like how you where honest and said “of any game I’ve ever played†making me realize you only Playstation titled games.
Common the remake of Ninja Gaiden for the PS3 is way more satisfying then this P.O.S. At least that game HAD a combat system and was longer then 7 hours. I feel sorry that your fanboyizm will restrict you from playing Ninja Gaiden for 360. I really hope this is a joke site because it’s hard to believe there are people who are this stupid.

What a surprise. A 10/10. So if Lair also got a 10/10, im having problems deciding which game to buy. Apparently there are so many perfect games on the PS3, its making it so hard to choose. Metacritic.com gave Heavenly Sword a 81, which means it’s a pretty good game, but far from pefect. Oh forget it, I’ll just replay Bioshock (Metacritic score of 96….. and didnt even need blueray. lol)
yeah i love the difference between an immersive, beautifully compelling game like bioshock that fails due to what did you say? hardware errors? UNEXISTANT! and games everyone seems to think, blow, which you say are perfect
coming next week, halo 3 and how bad its physics and ai are and how it “can be better when they release it on the ps3″
the blu-rays make the AI smarter than us, and dont even get me started about how home-support boosts the physics.

Regardsless of what the critics say, I found Lair and HS both to be at least something fresh, and with really good visuals.
It would have been better if they came at a $40 price though, just because of the length. Then, I could have paid for even “paid-for” downloadable content.
But who are you gonna believe these days, with critics hyping a 7 year old POS (Halo, I am looking at you) with cartooney weapons and characters…I mean seriously, who thinks pink and green lasers are deadly…

and before you asked i have played the game my friend has it and it was fun BUT there is no way in hell i could keep playing it, it will get very boring and its combat system is too simple, i saw all 4 of the main enemies in the first few minutes of playing, and CG like graphics, no game on the ps3 or any console for that matter could get anywhere near CGI
honestly it was fun and if you really enjoy action games then do buy it, buts its not the AAA game that the ps3 desperatly needs, its not going to shift consoles
I’m sure it is a fantastic 5 hours of gameplay. Please everyone buy it so I can get a bargain bin copy in about 3 months and not waste $60 on a rental title.
hchaudh1: Halo was a groundbreak fps, no mater what you say. The characters are aliens, and which makes sense that they would use lasers. Hell, i saw a green army laser that could burn human flesh. and the lasers and shit are just the covie weapons. the human weapons are totally believable. (Rockets anyone?)

In fairness, he’s not lying when he says it has the best of any games he’s played. He’s only played Lair, WarHawk and this.
Looking at the competition, it doesn’t have to stand up to anything special.

Gamespot’s 8.0/10 review of Heavenly Sword must have be biased!
Anyone who expected a bad review from SDF hasn’t been here long. This is the site that gave Halo 3 a 3/10. I’ll say this much for HS: at least it’s short. You can almost finish the whole game at a PS3 kiosk at Walmart. If you’re good, have your hat-throwing skills down, and skip the scene-cuts, you can cruise through in a couple of hours.
Now Heavenly Sword isn’t bad, really, just either play it on store kiosk, or rent it. Otherwise, you’re like paying $10 an hour for buying it.
Why are you giving every PS3 game a 10/10? At least mix in a few 9/10s in there. I mean what are you going to do when the games that are actually worth playing come out? You’ll probably give them 13/10.
On a side note I am really looking forward to your non biased review of Halo 3. I’m thinking somewhere from 3/10 to 5/10. I mean what does Halo 3 have that PS3 games don’t have?

Ey i buy the game yesterday and the game is one of the best games i play so far everything on the Review its true and with the motion Sensor the game is really fun 10/10 a must have buy a PS3 if you dont have one go get one the game is just what Playstation funboys been waiting for.
The game got good Reviews so its not like the game its bad because its not, and its not 6 hours i play it for 9 hours so far and i dont think i’m almost done.

Yes, I honestly do. If I want to watch a movie I’ll watch a damn movie. It’s nice for a game to have a decent storyline, but spending millions of dollars to produce “pretty cutscenes” is retarded. Spend that time working on gameplay and you won’t end up with four hours of simplistic garbage.

first i would never buy a ps3 for any reason only would i take one. second you forgot to mention that the soundtrack is the biggest part of the game. 5 hours of gameplay i mean come on even gears has more than that. no offense to gears fanatics
also i hate to say it but Gears has one of the worst replay values only good for the first time then leave it to online, where Heavenly Sword fails no multiplayer. Gears is a great game though

You seemed to have dug a hole for yourself. Lair gets 10/10, HS gets 10/10, Warhawk gets 10/10. What will Killzone 2 get? 10/10? That’ll cheapen Killzone 2, as there is almost no way you can say that Lair and Killzone 2 are on the same level. I’ll take a guess that Tools of Destruction gets a 10, and so does every other PS3 game that you “review”. The most ironic thing is that the only non-PS3 game, BioShock, is the only one of the games featured on this site with a Metascore above a 90. In fact, there is only one game on the PS3 with a Metascore above a 90, and that is Oblivion, a multi platform game. The 360? 7 above 90. Oh, and BioShock has a 96. So, what could this lone 360/PC receive for a score? 5/10.

I just saved myself 1 minute of my life. I didn’t even have to read your drivel to know you’d give Heavenly Sword a 10/10.
But the problem is that you gave Lair a 10/10 also, a title that has been nearly universally criticized (thanks for throwing the curve SDF). So does this 10/10 for Heavenly Sword mean it’s not really 10/10 or does it mean that Lair’s 10/10 is worth more than it should have gotten?
