I think you’ll find that this news is bull. The DS has sold more in Japan than Sony has shipped PSPs.

Sony sells a few more PSP’s than Nintendo and the DS is dead in the water, but the Wii outsells the PS3 over 3 to 1 and its “powerful blu-rays and the miracle that is cell” makes every game on it a 10/10?

my source shows roughly 15 million DS units sold compared to the 5-6 million PSPs.

the numbers in this article are actually correct, this is the only week PSP has ever outsold DS in Japan i think. FF7 crisis core was released and there was a limited edition PSP of which 77,777 of them were released and all sold. All other systems are in a huge slump right now, but i expect PSP sales to be much lower next week.
funny thing is that crisis core was actually outsold by a DS game, pokemon mysterious dungeon 2 this week.
Clearly the PSP, a nation-controlling cybernetic handheld supercomputer (if you were not aware, you can get homebrew that gives you control over Kenya) is going to outsell the DS, whose two screens can only display KEN and YA, but not both. The future of the handheld war has clearly been decided!!!!!

The hihgh numbers are due to crisis core. The DS had no big games out and the psp had its biggest. You wnat to see big numers? Wathc the DS numbers when dragon quest comes out.

P.S. I think the problem of the DS sales is that, considering how it’s sold the last 3 years, I estimate that everyone in the world already has one.

Everyone and their momma owns a DS now so it’s not surprising that the PSP is starting to sell more because God knows EVERYONE owns a PSP. The DS is the number one selling console in the history of video games.
It’s funny that you say the DS is dead because the PSP starts selling just a little bit more but the PS3 is in dead last in the console race (getting beat out by the Wii I might add) and you still say that Sony will win.
It’s not about hardware it’s about the games. That’s why the PS3 sucks.

Yeah, the one month that PSP actually outsold the DS by 20% as opposed to being outsold by DS 2:1, SDF has to go and get giddy.
The PSP is being soundly trashed by the DS right now – and rightly so. Sony should have spent more time coming up with innovative new titles and IP (like Nintendo does) instead of rehashing and porting stuff we’ve already seen on the PSX and PS2.
The PSP hardware is not bad – in fact, it’s pretty good. I have 2 of them. But really, where are the original games that take advantage of the form-factor?
This is also a reason why I won’t buy a PS3. Because I’ve seen more of the same from PS3 titles. It’s taken Sony over 2 years to start to get some original titles out for PSP so I think there is no PS3 yet in my immediate future.
Let’s compare prices.
PSP = $200
NDS = $130
Opera + $30
Media + $30
= $190
NDS can have all extra-gaming features of PSP, and is still cheaper.
I buy the new PSP 2000 and thats because i get to Download Music,Pictures,Videos Fron Youtube Play games and Movies and it get on the Net and i can download games from the best console ever made (PS3) so what is it that the DS do again?
The DS plays Games and good ones unlike the PSP. Thats what its suppose to do. Has everyone lost their mind and forgotten what a handheld console is for? If Sony had concentrated on just making a handheld console instead of creating another media property (UMD) to shove down peoples throats and make an extra buck, then the PSP would have turned out well. Same thing applies to the PS3. Notice the trend.

The DS allows me to do three things:
1. Play games
2. Speak English properly.
3. Not live in a meticulously constructed fantasy world where the PS3 is the greatest console ever made.
Your PSP apparently only allows you to do *one* out of those 3 things. Of course, if I had been stupid enough to blow $600 on a system (PS3) that was doing this poorly so long after its release, I would probably meticulously construct a fantasy world as well.

Seriously I could not be more entertained. How long will the Crisis Core high last? I’d give it another month. I’d also expect the DS to sell twice that many units when Dragon Quest IX comes out considering its more popular than FF in Japan. Still congratulations to the PSP for outselling the DS in Japan for the first time well… ever! Way to go!
