360 aside, did you honestly say that the 3 disks in FFVII were annoying? It's not like you had to constantly change them, each disk other than maybe the last one had several solid hours to them...(must not comment on Heavenly Sword)...other than that, everything else has been covered by guys above me.

"On Blu-Ray the film’s audio track resonates at 7:1 and is fully uncompressed"
It's still compressed, the bitrate is just higher. Nothing wrong with compression though and it can even be lossless (not sure if the film in question has lossless audio).

"-- stream data from 25GB of space versus the 4.7GB."
Xbox 360 uses DL DVDs, aka. DVD9s which are 8.5Gb. Games today do fit on a DVD9 and thus the Xbox 360 (FPS) and Nintendo Wii (FUN) are consoles of THIS generation whereas the Playstation 3 (RPG) is a console of the next generation... or at least most of us sure hope so.

This whole "my discs are bigger than yours" -thing is getting ridiculous. Nobody was bitching about it when C-64 was around and some games were on 11 tapes which you had to change every 2 minutes (or even more often). I can't believe people these days are so lazy that they can't get off their lazy ass every 5 hours to switch a DVD... I bet that the Nintendo Wii gives you people nightmares (All that movement... the horror! You might even sweat).

Again, don't confuse movies with games. Nobody should be forced to walk over to their DVD player and flip the disc over (DVD18 ftfl, they get fingerprints no matter how you hold them) to watch the rest of the movie. It kills the moment.

Bravo. I bet you were beating off to your thoughts racing through your head as you were typing that post. Thanks for wasting so much of your valuable time typing that up for me. I hope you are unable to respond to my post due to your keys being stuck together. I'm gonna go play Rainbow Six Las Vegas (the good version, you know on the 360, not the jagged PS2 looking one on the PS3) while you run off to Walmart to get a replacement keyboard.

---------------------------------------
From spaniard0069:
Your an idiot. Since when is the content of a game thats on the dvd format not HD. Get a clue ass monkey, HD is all about resolution.
---------------------------------------

Anyone that spends the majority of his time creating new verbal obscenities (I mean really, ass monkey?) rather than stating more evidence to support is argument is either lacking REAL information, is very unintelligent, or has a cock the size of a jump drive. I'll allow you to decide which category you fall in.

As for the argument against HD while you're right in one regard -- resolution -- you fail to mention the other factors of HD versus standard definition. Namely compression.

Let's look at X-Men 3 (whether you love or hate the movie is not the topic). On Blu-Ray the film's audio track resonates at 7:1 and is fully uncompressed. If you know anything about compression versus raw audio/video you'll know that raw file formats will ALWAYS beat out a compressed format. Hands down. You can't argue that, it's a simple fact.

If you've ever shot footage on a camcorder and then uploaded it to your computer you've probably seen the finished file at 2GB or more (depending on the length of course). And that's just from some crappy over the counter camcorder. Now think about a million dollar+ camera as well as a separate audio technician(s) capturing all of the sound with their own multi-million dollar equipment and you have gig upon gigs of data.

That's not to suggest that films are still uncompressed when they come to Blu-Ray or even HD-DVD but with the increased space from these two formats DVD developers can preserve more of original data by compressing less data giving you a more true to life visual and audio experience.

This goes back to my argument that the experience you're getting on your standard DVD playing 360 will lack more of what makes a game truly high definition in more aspects than just resolution.

Also, if you remember later in the PS2's lifecycle developers began streaming data from the disc (Jak & Daxter is an example) that allowed the game to never have to load. Imagine what developers will be doing when they can learn how to stream data from 25GB of space versus the 4.7GB. Wait, maybe you can't imagine it. I'm sorry. Forget that last line, it might be too much for your Altoid-sized cranium.

As for what's wrong with America? I'm not even sure where that's coming from. I sense a very hostile, unhappy individual in need of serious therapy.

Based on your profane language and violent tone (you're going to shot me with an HD shotgun?) I wouldn't place you above high-school level. But if I'm wrong, and you're over 21 and you live in the US -- then I blame the American education system for churning out inarticulate morons like yourself.

Thanks for playing.

Mr. Blue

Your an idiot. Since when is the content of a game thats on the dvd format not HD. Get a clue ass monkey, HD is all about resolution. PC's have been HD for over a decade. All you needed was a decent monitor, a great graphics card and a game that supported high resolutions and textures. Your telling me that Gears of War isn't HD because its on a dvd and not on blue ray or hd dvd format. Your whats wrong with America. Your an uneducated fool that loves to talk about shit like if you had a clue about what you were talking about. I won't even bother reading the rest of you post due to the fact that you'll probably enrage me further with your stupidity and I may have to hunt your down with my HD shotgun.

There are a lot more PS3 haters here than I thought. What's the deal? It seems like every time I read news that champions the PS3 against the 360 the Microsoft loyalists come out in droves.

It's almost as though the 360 fanboys browse the net looking for ways to defend their Red Ring of Death suffering systems. I'm sure if the shoe was on the other foot all the 360 fanboys would be pissing all over Sony for having to make gamers switch out discs. You people are so hypocritical.

The fact that Halo 3 even has to have a second disc for special features is a testament that the DVD format has run its course. It's time for another format. Be it HD-DVD or Blu-Ray but it's time for something else. How else do you really take advantage of an HDTV unless you have hi-def content?

The Elite SKU was built for the hi-def movie watching audience, not for gamers. I say that because if the content on the DVD is not hi-def than what do you need an HDMI port for? Exactly, nothing.

Slam Heavenly Sword if you want to. It's awesome. Short, yes. But I'll gladly replay every second of the game thanks to it's rock solid gameplay and drop dead gorgeous graphics (way better than MGS4).

All of this is futile. Once Blu-Ray wins the war -- and trust me, it will -- MS will be forced to use the format in their next console. And MS will release their next console first since they decided to time the 360 the way they did.

Hey, anybody seen an original Xbox around or developers still making games for it? No? Wow, that's funny because Sony -- and other developers --- still sells and supports the PS2 instead of dropping like a drunken prom date. Bottomline, the PS3 is an investment and the 10-year plan is real. Developers will shift projects over to the PS3 slowly but surely crowing Sony king once again.
