While Microsoft is busy chasing the PS2 with generic subpar copycats of Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy, Sony shows off the first true next-gen Japanese RPG: White Knight Story. No doubt these graphics are only possible due to the inherent link between CELL and RSX and thanks to the use of Blu-ray we don’t have to find a place to store a 10-disc set.

Really? Generic subpar copycats? Lost Odyssey is being produced by Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the original FINAL FANTASY series. WHo is creating White Knight Story? The problem with Sony is all of their exclusives are made by crappy developers and thats why you turn out with medioce games like Heavenly Sword and horrible games like Lair. We will see about Kill Zone 2, we all know Guerilla Games isnt the best developer either…

I’ll have to watch this video when I get home from work. A year ago I was legitimately excited about White Knight Story. I wonder if the gameplay looks as good now as it did then.
When I saw the first White Knight video I thought it looked pretty awesome. But watching this one it really looked like a rip-off of the FFXII combat system minus the lines. It looked pretty boring. Maybe it was just that the guy playing the game was a moron though. I only watched about half the video, I’ll have to wait to get home from work to watch the rest.

Lets not make this about Sony. They’re trying to sell console based on hardware specs alone. This game does LOOK good, but how does it play? Sadly, this trailer doesn’t really show. Mass Effect, with Bioware at the helm, appears to have just about every other RPG by the balls when it comes to gameplay. Bioware is of course the developer of most of the great Western-developed RPGs, so I have no doubts that they’ll turn out a fantastic product. Whether White Knight Story looks better than Mass Effect is up for debate, since the style is completely different between them. However, when it comes to gameplay, Mass Effect has the pedigree to stand head and shoulders above just about any other game out there.
Wow, I got to pick up a PS3, this game for killing Garden Gnomes looks awesome! Hours and hours of enjoyment putting those nasty Garden Gnomes in their place, why hasn’t someone done this game before!!!

Best RPG I ever played for a console is SteamBot Chronicles on the PS2. Take a long time for any to beat that, not even PC RPGs, or MMORPGs, have gotten close to being as fun as Steambot.
This game looks like a disapointment. I might hate it for the same reasons I hate most if not all Final Fantasy games. IE make the game pointlessly long, force players to level up, story is fixed, so players can’t be a factory in what really happens in the world just brainlessly follow along. Ya typicial boring RPG game. Best RPGs let players choose good or bad, pick what their character is going to be, what gender, and leveling doesn’t exist and if it does exist make it so mildly important the player basically levels to max level by the end of the game without drying. lol
