The amount of superior technology that is waiting to be unlocked is clearly ready to be unleashed. We all know that the Xbox 360 or Wii would not be able to handle this level of complex algorithm. The 10-year plan from Sony looks very good.

While the Cell is great for scientific applications, it would get it’s ass handed to it by a Geforce 8800GTX. Too bad the Cell isn’t this supercomputer when it comes to branch prediction, its deep pipeline, and narrow execution core.
Lol, yeah, Sony threw a bunch of relatively expensive technology into a box, and it is outperforming specifically designed-for-robotics processing supercomputers. I don’t think even Sony has ever claimed that their system housed a god inside it. Merely higher-end mid income technology.

The Cell is a CPU not a GPU stupid.
And it is fact that the cell is a overall better processor then anything on the market you will find for a windows computer. Even the Quad Core Intel falls short of it. The Quad Core Intel is rated at 64,000 MIPS while the Cell Chip is rated at 256,000 MIPS. Of course this can only be unlocked through correct efficent programming. Which is true for just about anything.

Decent Games: (exclusives) Warhawk is cool. Grand Turismo HD is free and it provides a week or so of entertainment. Resistance is a really fun game so is Motorstorm. Though I can’t wait for UT3 and Killzone 2. Maybe some other games I can’t think of yet.

If you find a 1 terabyte laptop drive to stick in it then have fun.
Nope it doesn’t have a burner so it can’t burn dvds but their has been some hacks to rip them to the hard drive. Though they aren’t playable after you do so. I use my computer to rip them. Then I convert them to a mpeg file still in their 480p format and put them on my ps3 hard drive. Works ok. Takes forever to rip and convert even on my AMD x2.

Can it hold 50,000 songs. Sure can their buddy. If you run out of room you may need a hard drive update to just about any laptop drive that is SATA. So you don’t have to buy the hard drive from sony the same way you do from microsoft. 180 dollars for 120 gigs is bull shit.
Yes, you can use a usb/bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Even better is you can use any generic Joystick for computer on it!!! Yeah my computer steering wheel from 1998 works on my ps3 through USB. My Joystick works on my ps3. Though some of the buttons are messed up if your really looking for a cheap controller rewireing it isn’t that big of a deal. And It is compadible with mp3 players. The ps3 will reconize the mp3 player as a thumbdrive and you can copy pictures and stuff into it from their. I have heard it works with Ipods but I havn’t tried mine.
Can you upgrade the drives? I’m not really sure unless it’s an external USB drive. Then maybe otherwise I can’t really say. But not a big deal saying it already has a Blu-ray drive built in.

Look, the PS3 can be the most powerful system ever, it can have graphics that make the people look real, it can have better everything than the 360. But that doesn’t mean anything when its got a $600 price tag and no good games to play.

Xeniczone, the Cell might as well be a GPU because those functions are the only places it excels. It’s definitely not a CPU like one found on a desktop because it lacks out of order execution, branch prediction, and doesn’t run x86. Also, with Nvidia’s CUDA development kit, you can create programs to utilize the 128 stream processors of a for non-graphical applications.

What I believe the article is saying is 3 playstation 3′s can do something in 1 second which is around real-time. When the Intel Core 2 Duo did in 3 minutes. Even so your talking about the Playstation 3 vs Intel Core 2 Duo. Their are other factors involed to determain how fast a applicaion can be excicuted. Like Ram speed, Ammount of ram. If the ram speed is low your processor can be as powerful as it likes it will just lag behind trying to store the info in the ram. Then if their is a lack of ram you really get screwed becasue it has to use virtual ram. Which is extremely slow. Though the processor is a big facter their are other factor that will make this experiment bias.

MS is just now starting to make a profit off the XBOXes, thanks to H3, (in 6 years) and they only lost $70 off each system. Sony’s losing $250 off every PS3. You do the math.
That is fairly impressive, from the site in the comments. However, the PS3 doesn’t stand up where a game system should. I never had any doubts to what the Cell architecture was capable of, but all the power in the world doesn’t matter in the least if there is nothing out there that uses it. I refer to actual released games, of course. It’s easy to point out potential. I tend not to judge games until they’ve been released. It’s really a game play thing. I had high hopes for Lair, as it had Factor 5 for a developer. Look how that turned out. Maybe Sony should just sell PS3s to scientists, or make another SKU for labs or something. I really don’t care.

Well because the Developers that make games for the 360/PS3 have to make them look the sain to each other thats why the games look alike on both consoles but if you PS3 games are exclusives they look better on 1080P them on 720i i believe thats what the 360 runs or 1080i something like that and Folklore is coming on 10/9/07 i’m buying the one its and RPG i play the demo and it look good Unreal Tournament 3, Uncharted Drake fortune, are coming next month, Final Fantasy The war of the lions is coming this month and Silent hill origins is coming next month i believe those are going to be good games thats more them enouf for me to last me until Metal Gear Solid comes out

It’s tough to say how long Sony is even going to hang around. If it was up to SCE, I’d say we’ll see a PS4, and maybe a PS5, but it’s out of their hands.
It’s the executives in the big office, and, let’s face it, they’ve got bigger fish to fry. I don’t even think they’ll wait unitl 09 to make a profit. All their money, from everything, is going into PS3 production. The system is starting to sell moderately well.
The games aren’t, which is where profits are made.
Once the executives figure that the PS3 holds no more opportunity,
They’ll discontinue production on all Sony systems, shut down SCE and SCEA, sell their studios, and they will be gone.
Unless things really change in the next year or so.

People keep saying that there’s no source when there’s a link IN THE ARTICLE! Those that say “no source, no story” must have a broken mouse because the link is right there.
Most of you 360 haters (again, the amount of time you people spend here is amazing) are missing the entire point, which is that there is untapped power and potential in the PS3. The 360 can’t even manage 720p on THE most important title on the system with graphics and animation that look first gen rather than third gen (like Gears of War, which is actually second gen).
The fact is that Sony created a machine with the 10-year plan in mind. Love it or hate it, the inclusion of the Blu-Ray was a smart idea. Even if the format fails (which it won’t as even Panasonic is saying Blu-Ray will win by early 2008) at least developers can create games on a larger disc format. Fast forward just 2 years and most developers will start begging MS to make the HD-DVD add-on play games once they forced to burn games across 5+ discs. That or having to cut entire levels and other important content because the disc can’t hold it.

thirdly, if it flops it doesnt matter how long it was planned to be out for, Why would they be begging, I doubt they will care, what you cant change a disc? You are aware that more studios support HD-DVD now right? Who care what panasonic says, and when did they say that? early 08 ends in about 6 months and it is too close right now for either party to win in that period of time. Also, Bioshock = 20 hours Heavenly Sword = 6 hours. They are about the same graphically, and HS fills a whole BD disc, Bioshock doesnt, so thats the end of that arguement.
