Bungie to leave Microsoft?

breakup.jpg

Sick and tired of spitting out generic first person shooters, it looks as if Bungie might be leaving the Microsoft camp. This comes as no surprise after the colossal disappointment that is Halo 3. One can assume that Bungie is tired of working with low end hardware and they want to kick it up a notch to utilize PS3′s tech. Imagine what Halo 3 would’ve been like had it even been able to run beyond 640p at a decent framerate.

Full story:

A friend of mine who has someone close that works at Bungie has just been dying to tell me a secret about their future. Since the NDA officially expire today the sent me and email with the details. I have full faith in this contact.

The email is as follows :

“So heres my big secret. You should google Bungie + Microsoft + separation this week.
You know that big ol BILLION dollar franchise Bungie has created for Microsoft, to show their appreciate Microsoft is letting Bungie leave. Of course Microsoft gets to keep all rights to the Halo franchise, but as today Bungie no longer part of Microsoft. Ask anyone who works there to search the global address book, they’re no longer in there. Microsoft was supposed to release the press release today but if they wait till the 10/6 the impact wont effect the quarterly results. However today is the actual official date and the day the NDAs expire, however you still didn’t hear this from me.”

“Apparently MS just wants Bungie to make Halo for the rest of their natural days, and Bungie doesn’t like how MS is constantly trying to “handle” everything they do; the way they market their games, the way they interact with their fans (basically the fact that they do appreciate their fans), and how stingie they are with the profits (comparable to the rest of the industry). So as of today they are their own independent entity. They’ll probably make Halo 4 for Microsoft, however hey are also free to create new intellectual properties for whatever system they want. (Even though they prefer the xbox platform)”

“What a way to say thank you.”

  1. Nah I think the SDF review of Halo3, giving it 2.5/10, finally made Microsoft see the light.

Also I’m a bit disappointed to read a whole article without mention of CELL or Blu-Ray.

lolz, its just a rumor, and a fake one at that. Its funny that you are acting as if its fact.

  3. HAHA, finally SDF is back. First funny thing in a while. Even better is where they get their “source” its a blog on the net………..good job SDF, keep coming out with the non-stop retarted stuff, and bungie said themselves that there is more to the story of “halo” the 3rd one just took the halo part out of it, now its time to see the forrunners and fight on “onyx” just like in the halo books

I like how still no-one has noticed the “Inspired by Major Nelson, Microsoft Defense Force” thing on the side. That pretty much reveals SDF as a joke and yet, y’all are still taking it seriously.

    @Qualityjeverage

Yeah I noticed those a while back, whats better is that the guys who run this site run wii60.com too.

As far as the post, it is pretty funny. What I would like to know is if you think Halo3 is so generic they why do you want to play it on the PS3? Its not like the power of Bluray and the Cell will increase the originality of a game.

  6. So 171 million dollars in the first 24 hours means the game was a “colossal disappointment”?

  7. You fucking morons

    http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=25955364

this is a fake, Microsoft Owns Bungie. Only the Senior members of Bungie are legally allowed to leave.

  8. It only sold 171 millions on the us no one around the world buy microsoft 360s, so the game dont sell well, I believe if Halo comes to the PS3 no one would buy it, because PS3 owners dont like Halo but i believe running at 60fps on 1080P would make the game look better that any 360 version.

  9. If the PS3 was even capable of 1080p: Dream on.

But seriously, I’m definately with Bungie on this one. Their creativity and, let’s face it, importance to the industry is invaluable.

Microsoft just cares about their stupid profits. They’re tycoons. They ruined the PC industry with their blasphemous Vistas (probably to promote the 360), they hiked the price on software, destroyed Shareware, and the list goes on.

The people at Bungie are visionaries.
Bill Gates needs to be shot.

  10. Qualityjeverage, only an incredibly insignificant minority are taking this site seriously.

  11. ps3up

Halo 3 has sold more copies in one day than RFOM, lair and heavenly sword combined have sold in their lifetime.

  12. Halo 3 on 360: 2.5/10.

    Halo 3 port on ps3: GOTY 10/10!!!!!

  13. I love this, “A friend of mine who has someone close that works at Bungie”
thats just like saying, i know a guy who knows a guy… so you already know its fake

“to show their appreciate Microsoft is letting Bungie leave”Bungie is a company who want to make money, the are being paid millions by microsoft to make games, they are not hostages and dont need to be let go

    @ps3up
you’ve got that all wrong, no one in the worls buys ps3s, just the japanese, the xbox is still destroying the ps3, get your fucking facts right

  14. Totally, totally fake.

    ps3up: Your retarded.That is all.

  16. lol…anyone that believes that is a tard. Microsoft OWNS Bungie. Will some of the developers leave? Sure, maybe? People are always leaving their jobs. Is Bungie splitting? Not when Microsoft owns 100% of the company. love the picture, SDF :P

  17. Sick and tired of rolling in piles of money, it looks as if Bungie might be staying in the Microsoft camp for life

    Lol, Uncyclopedia is the best.

  22. Even though this PS3 site is a complete joke, at least we get to discuss some interesting Xbox news. If this rumor were true, and there seems to be some actual truth behind it, Microsoft owns the HALO, not Bungie. If Microsoft lets Bungie go, they are free to make any game they want for whatever platform they want, except HALO. And like the article says, they prefer Microsoft and well know the will be designing the game for the 360 and porting their games to the PS3 just like every other 3rd party developer does. Now that HALO is finished, I guess Bungie does deserve a HALO break and they should be able to make any game that they want. If Microsoft is allowing them to do that, then Kudos to them!

  25. No first Europa and Japan dont buy 360s i believe the PS3 in Australia is also out selling the 360, if i was retarded i would have a 360 Thorax The Impaler but i confess i have a wii,psp

  27. Thorax The Impaler Says:

I think the 360 outsold the wii this past week. No doubt because of halo.

Ps3up: You ARE retarded becauseyou were conned by sony into buying an overpriced gaming machine.

  28. i have to say that is one of the best pictures i have ever seen

  29. Apparently you don’t understand the word rumor. This is not happening, as confirmed by Bungie. SDF is full of stupid, ignorant pieces of crap that understand nothing. Halo 3′s graphics suck? What did you play it on, your grandma’s black and white tv set?

Killzone was the worst game I’ve every played, why would we want another??? People hype the graphics, but the only good thing I’ve seen are the guns, and since they aren’t dynamic in any sense, it’d be simple to make a good looking gun. The scenes are pure grey, and adding dirt and rubble doesn’t make good graphics. Grey is an ugly color, Halo 3 is amazingly colorful. I hope you all die from your PS3 hotdog grill starting a fire in your house.

  30. As much as I do hate to say it, if this rumor is true then the Xbox is to take a line from a song, dead as dead can be…

When people think of the Xbox they think of Halo. Much like Nintendo has Mario and Link, or Sony with Snake and Cloud… I’d put good money that if Bungie breaks off Sony will woo them over to the PS3 with a ton of cash.

It’s a shame and I hope it isn’t true but I think the SDF is telling the truth for once… Looks like the PS3 won.

  31. Even assuming this is true, which I doubt (but won’t rule out entirely) why would Bungie splitting from Microsoft now kill the 360? Halo 3 is out. It made $170 million at launch. The only thing Bungie is involved in now is Halo Wars, which won’t be anything nearly as big.
Besides which, we have no idea what Microsoft’s acquisition of Bungie entailed in the first place. Bungie might have simply agreed to a 3 game deal with Microsoft to get Halo off the ground. Assuming there’s any truth to this rumour, we’ll find out in the coming weeks.

  32. Actually, the PS3 is still, in the US and overall world wide, behind the 360 sales. But not by much, as far as weekly sales go. Mostly because those that want a 360 already have one (kinda what’s going on with the NDS and PSP, everyone’s got a DS, now they need the PSP).

The PS3, overall, is now about where the 360 was last year, or just a little behind. The 360 has been out a year longer, so it’s sold twice as much.
And the experience on the PS3 is the same as on the 360, but for twice the price.

Meanwhile, the Wii is making both systems look bad. The 360 is making a profit, finally, so they’re set up. But the PS3 games aren’t selling, they’re just losing more money off every PS3, so it’s anybody’s guess about how long Sony’s going to stick around.

  33. wow, the story is all over the place….this is certainly not journalism.
this site is stupid…..what kind of source for a story is that?
    this is some bullshyt

  34. @xeacons: While no one really cares about the NBA series from Sony’s internal studios that game does run in full 1080p and at 60fps. Now if only the game looked like 2K’s game I might give a $#*!.

More recent news states that this may be true but even if all the developers break off to do their own thing it’s been stated that Microsoft will publish the first few games from their respective development houses. That’s not to say that those dev houses have to agree to being exclusive if they want to push their game to other companies like Midway or even EA (they can have lunch with Peter Moore).

As for the Major Nelson association, it’s possible that this Major Nelson loves his 360 but posts all of the things that he hates on this site. The fact that he has so many 360 owners’ panties in a bunch makes the site all worth it. Reading reactions to news like this and the fact that he continues to call Halo 3, Halo 2.5 is just good internet.

  35.
When people think of the Xbox they think of Halo. Much like Nintendo has Mario and Link, or Sony with Snake and Cloud… I’d put good money that if Bungie breaks off Sony will woo them over to the PS3 with a ton of cash.
Only problem is Sony doesn’t pay companies millions of dollars to be exclusive. They let game developers choose on their own if they want to be exclusive. Though they still sign contracts and stuff. Like Gurilla is secered to Sony so you won’t see killzone on 360.

  36. Overprice Console? the PS3 with a Blue-ray player that its selling for $1,000 and free online play I dont think so my friend Thorax The Impaler pay $130.00 dollars for Halo 3 now that retarted.

  37. Fom Xeniczone: “Like Guerrilla is secured to Sony so you won’t see Killzone on 360″ (full quote with some corrections…no offense).

Even if Guerrilla were allowed to take the franchise elsewhere it wouldn’t run on the 360 anyway. Guerrilla has already stated that just the third level alone — the only level they’re currently showing — is 2GB. Do the math. If the game turns out to be 7 or 8 levels it could very well push the limits of the 25GB Blu-Ray let alone the paltry 4.7GB on the standard DVD format.

Also, it’ll run in TRUE 720p.

Even funnier is that MS claimed (during the launch of the 360) that most developers were barely filling the 4.7GB on the disc so sticking with the standard DVD format would be more than enough. After Blue Dragon (3 discs) and Lost Odyssey (4 discs) are they still singing that song? If a two-year old system has games on as many 4 discs already what does that say about the future of the console?

I’ve said this many times but with Halo 3 only running at 640p what does that say about how the console will hold up 2 to 3 years from now? Not much. Will the PS3 rule all like the PS2 days? Probably not but soon developers will get sick of having to spread their games out on several discs and cutting content in order to fit their game on one DVD. Not to mention the millions that DON’T have an HDMI port to take advantage of true HD content.

PS3 expensive? Yeah, sort of. Worth it in the long term? Talk to me in (less than) 18 months when Blu-Ray wins — and it will — and developers start figuring out how to use 7 separate processors effectively.

  38. @MrBlue
“4.7GB on the standard DVD format.” “barely filling the 4.7GB”

    It’s 8.05Gb.

“Also, it’ll run in TRUE 720p.”
You have no way of knowing that and neither has anyone else. Although it should, since about 99% of all current-gen games are 720p (except Halo 3 and some of the first ones).

“soon developers will get sick of having to spread their games out on several discs and cutting content in order to fit their game on one DVD”
I’d say that spreading a game over multiple discs isn’t that hard compared to the fact that it takes 4x the effort to code it into something that some other system can understand and execute. Now if Sony released proper developer tools…

10/10 for the mentioning of Blu-ray and cell (in a way).

  39. Xbox360-SaXX Says:

Oh fuck off SDF, you, as well as i know that you never played Halo 3 (not 2,5 BTW). I mean FFS do you think that Microsoft whould send a review copy to SDF who whould give any game under 5/10?

  40. @MrBlue

Just because a game might be on multiple disks doesn’t mean it’s automatically a inferior game. FF7-9 where on 3 to 4 disks, and no one seemed to complain about it (I sure didn’t). MGS was on 2 disks and that’s a highly enjoyable game too. Oh yeah what about Xenogears? Ain’t that on a couple dvd’s?
So you think quality of content is determined by storage space? Sure it makes it easier on developers to have that much space, but Sony hasen’t had the best track record with recordable media( mini-disk, beta, umd’s, etc).
So eat it you Sony drone, and face it Sony is getting there asses handed to them.

  41. @ColdYellow

Are they getting their asses handed to them? Playstation 3 isn’t selling great but it still isn’t poor. In no lines is it set up for failure. Plus look at other of Sony products, The Blu-ray format is a hit. It’s almost 2 to 1 on HD DVD.

Plus if you had to choose between to version of the game that look exactly the same which one would you choose the one that takes 6 DVDs to get 50gigs or the one that takes 1 Blu-ray?

  42. @Xenicone

No the system isn’t a failure; I do agree with you on that. Actually I think the PS3 is an impressive piece of hardware, but the way Sony is marketing the console right now, they are getting there asses handed to them. Think on how many commercials for a cross platform game you see and it ends with the 360 “jump in” crap.
Now with which version of a game if it’s on 1 blu-ray or 6 dvds? That’s a easy question. I don’t give a crap as long as i get the game and it’s fun. If (not you xenicone) people believe it’s such a pain in the ass to switch out disks then they got bigger problems than that.

  43. @dr34m3r

Spreading a game over multible DVDs is harder to do then you would think. It requires a save state of the game of EVERYTHING that is going on in the sence to be saved to the memory. While the next disk is changed out. Then it has to load back into that state. It also requires a menu to be programmed for each individual Cd so you don’t have to stick cd 1 in to play cd 5 every time you want to play the game. Basically it requires a little more effert from the developers and puts a little longer load time on the game.

The next point is Sony releaseing proper development tools isn’t all true. The first game to use the developers Tools Sony has offered is Gurilla for the game Killzone, and in no way is that a slack off. It trully does look amazing. Though it’s still 4 months away from release that is planty of time to polish stuff off. Nor is this unheard of developers complaining about how Sony system is too different and too hard to program for. They did the same fuckin thing to the playstation 2 when it was first released. AND LOOK WHERE IT’S AT NOW. Seriously look at Sonys history, They have owned the market of gaming. Sony Playstation and Sony Playstation 2 were hits. Untouched in sales by ANY OTHER CONSOLE. Not even the NES could say “o yeah we sold 120,000 consoles.” Nintendo has just been slipping in sales for the last few generations so maybe it’s their time to shine with the Wii and Sony times to fall back a little with the ps3 but in no way will it fail. Not to mention how much money Microsoft lost of the first Xbox.
