Don’t say we didn’t warn you. It seems the developer of Assassin’s Creed is having trouble squeezing in all the game data onto a DVD. It looks like PS3 fans score another victory with yet another superior 3rd party port. I wonder what features they’ll have to cut out to get the game on the DVD? Will the 360 version run in sub-HD resolutions like Halo 3 and other 360 titles?

Sure glad the 360 has 512 MB of internal memory. The good thing is, you can always put a large game on more than one disk, but you cant ever change the amount of internal memory. No wonder developers like Valve and so many others hate making games for the PS3. Always designing their game for the 360 and having to reduce its quality to work with a measly 256 mb of memory. What is Sony gonig to due when Blue Ray loses the HD war to HD DVD and downloadable media? Especially now that they have fallen behind in HD sales… How soon before Blue Ray ends up like UMD?? lol

I am guessing you own a 360 or a fan boy because you obviously you are just looking at the main memory. Yes, the 360 has 512 MB of Main memory but only a measly 10 MB onboard video memory. As where the PS3 has 256 MB main memory AND 256 MB of dedicated video memory. So as you put it, the PS3 will have crappier draw distances but in reality you can get better draw distance because of the dedicated video memory. Loading times with the PS3 are longer anyway because of blu-ray but doesn’t more content = longer loading times? Thats fine with me, I am not going to die of boredom for an extra 10-15 sec of loading compared to the same game on 360. Granted the bus speed for the memory is a bit faster but it still doesn’t change the fact that the 360 has 10 MB video memory and the PS3 has 256 MB. Yes, that 512 MB is shared with the video card but its not dedicated the GPU. 360 games probably use 150+ MB anyway for textures so that still only leaves you with 300 MB or less for main memory. As you can they are pretty much even in the category of memory but both consoles take a different approach how to handle that memory.
Right he doesnt say its too big for DVD just that its harder/requires more efficient proggraming to fit it onto one whereas Bluray can fit it easily. Although there is no way that this game couldnt fit onto a DVD when its only about 20-40 hours long max and single player only. I doubt it will suffer the loss of any features over the PS3 version.
However he states the PS3 Version had or is having real memory issues now thats a real issue because unless they find a way around this issue chances are the game is going to suffer, reduced framerate etc.

wether or not it fits is one thing. i dont mind switching discs. see the thing is the crowd AI is going to be better on the 360 version cause they can get one of the 3 processors in the triple core chip to just handle that. the cell might have a bunch of sub processors but they cant work on the AI, thats a main processor job. so I dont give a rip if its on 2 discs cause the games going to be better on the 360.

Hey! I just found out why PS3 lost Monster Hunter 3: high production cost. Yes, the PS3 is now too expensive even for the biggest developers, like Capcom.
Plus, good news: Nintendo is finally pulling their head out of their casual ass. Iwata FINALLY said Nintendo needs to quit focusing JUST on the casual market and cater to the hardcore gamers as well.
Hey PS3UP, Way to miss my point entirely. I doubt the game will be on 2 discs, but thats not the point. If they have to cut corners on the graphics to get it to fit on 1 disc I would gladly take that knowing full well the 360 can handle the AI better than the PS3 can. It like Forza 2, they cut the graphics in favor of a much higher frame rate to keep up with the physics engine.
And just so you know, Ive heard that they (not Microsoft, other compainies) are working on a way to get a normaly red laser DVD drive to read a 20 gig DVD. For the most part any existing DVD drive will be able to read these new DVDs with a firmware update. I dont have a sourse or anything so I cant say if its true or not but if it is then your Blu-Ray discs arnt going to be that special anymore. Sure 50 some gigs is a huge amount for games and what not. But lets face it, I doubt there will ever be a game thatll fill half that before the next gen comes out.

The PS3 is relatively knew so it’s no surprise that some companies have dofficultes using the hardware. This will be solved, the developers will then have experience and the probleme won’t emerge again.
Now the xbox360 probleme in the other hand is a more depressing one. The probleme is one of limitations rather then inexperience.
In conclusion: ps3 “memory difficulty” is due to inexperience, xbox360 is due to spec limitations (which is especially scary considering that the consoles are new and games will only get more graphical and larger in size).

If i remember correctly the PS3 ain’t doing too hot over here in terms of games. R6 Vegas got reviewed lower than the 360 version. The team developing the Orange Box (not valve) is having problems porting it over to the PS3 (and it’s been delayed), UT3 delayed, and maybe even AC.
BTW Assassins Creed takes place during the First Crusade in Jeresuleam (I spelled that wrong) so that explains the “aladdin” look. Also if your letting the “look” of a game to hold you back from playing it then you could be missing out on alot of great games.

They’re saying they’re just having trouble fitting it on 8 gigs. Which means 10 or 12 would have been plenty. We’re not in need of 20 gigs yet, 15 tops. There’s nothing that will fill it up. Resistance proved it.

Since when has copies sold affected how good a game is? I own both a PS3 and a 360 and Halo 3 is the most perfect NORMAL FPS ever. It’s completely solid,don’t get me wrong,but it has nothing to distinguish itself from the rest of the crowd. They’re are plenty of other first person shooters that are arguably better than Halo 3. I found myself playing the game just to play the game. The story sucks,I kept asking myself “Why the fuck am I playing this?Where is the interesting plot that keeps me playing?”

Sure blu-ray is great for holding games and movies, but it’s hard to convince ppl to getting a $600 dollar console that can play games and movies in HD (since not even half the country has a HDTV). Alot of my co-workers and friends don’t see a reason to get either a Blu-ray or HD-DVD when a regular DVD works just fine.
Also the last time I checked Best Buy sells more than just video games they also have computers, movies, cd’s (you know why don’t they also goto blu-ray; there could be a 3000 song disk from one band), refridgerator, stereos, tv’s and alot of other stuff. Wal-mart to sells other things other than video games (get out once in a while idiot).
Now for downloadable game services (such as steam). Face it, we got itunes, netflix, gamefly and other services that allow you to download entertainment (or have it delivered). Now if you ever used such a service (like steam); it’s fucking nice not having to goto a store to pick up a game or not having to worry about it having be out of stock. I’m also aware not every1 doesn’t have high speed internet or it’s not available in all area’s, but maybe by (or after that)time the next group of consoles come along we just might be downloading our games (WARHAWK any1?)
BTW you can download HD Disney movies on xbox marketplace right now and LOTR.

Your comment was actually intelligent but just as you say that not everyone has an HDTV; well, someone better tell MS since they’re offering an HDMI port in all of their systems (they can thank Sony for starting the trend) and offering HD movies on XBLM.
Yes, you can download HD movies from XBLM. But keep in mind that these titles are compressed in some way that is different from the same movie on a disc.
Case in point, I noticed on the back of the Fantastic Four 2 movie (DISCLAIMER: this is not a movie review so if you think the film sucked you can argue that someplace else; I’m simply stating a technical fact about the disc). First off, it’s been burned to a 50GB Blu-Ray disc and contains lossless audio. If you know anything about lossless audio you’ll know that it’s basically the best you can get. This was part of the reason the film is using the larger 50GB dual layer disc as otherwise you would have to compress the data. While I’m sure Dolby 7.1 is fine it’s not as good as 7.1 lossless audio that provides the cleanest, clearest sound you can get.
And as you said, not everyone has high-speed access right now and most of us that have it are probably not willing to wait around for a 30GB (or more) file to download. And even if we could you wouldn’t be able to hold that many movies on one or even multiple drives.
There’s no way you can have an extensive DVD collection with ALL the films streaming from a HDD. While terabyte drives are becoming more and more common the issue here is compression, not space.
By the way I noticed that New Line Cinema, formerly HD-DVD exclusive, is releasing films on Blu-Ray. This is yet another sign that Blu-Ray is winning the war and will eventually win.
And anyone that thinks that the next Xbox won’t have a physical drive is kidding themselves. Yes, Wal-Mart and Best Buy sell more than games but you’re still talking about HUGE chunk of revenue being lost if they’re not selling games on a physical media.
Just because we have iTunes doesn’t mean Wal-Mart stopped selling CDs. It just gives users another way to obtain music. So while the next Xbox can offer plenty of online content they’ll HAVE to have some kind of physical media and regular DVD ain’t gonna cut it in 2009/2010.

ya too bad there are more returns of halo 3 than ps3 too and it doesnt take one, completely overhyped game to sell a console for 5 years, it takes at least 10 in 2 years, and currently, we have resistance, motorstorm, warhawk, ridge racer 7, and heavenly sword, and thats after, like 8 months, and 2008, killzone 2, god of war 3, motorstorm 2, MGS4! final fantasy 13! PS3 has 256 megs of ram, and 256 of gpu ram (both aroung 25 gigs / sec)
X360 has 256 megs only cpu reachable ram, and 256 megs of ram, which both cpu and gpu can reach (both are at the same speed as the ps3), and 10 megs of dedicated render target ram called E-Dram, which is 256 gigs/sec fast…

It seems this ’10 in 2 years’ statment is of your own creation. Im suprised you mention Ridge Racer 7. You do realize he only reason Namco makes Ridge Racer games is for new system launches right. Not having played it I cant say if its good or not, I hear its a beefed up 6 so it cant be that bad. But I wouldnt put it on your system selling list. And you mention Motorstorm and Motorstorm 2, this seems odd. How is 2 going to be different from 1? Ive seen some screens and video and they look the same, And it seems they play the same. So I think one of those has to come off your list as well. So what you really have is ’8 in 2 years’. But instead of getting pissed you should just change your statement to that, it will still make as much sense as before. By the way, I wouldnt play (much less buy a system for) any of the games you have listed there.
Oh, something else about Motorstorm 2. It sounds like it has the Guitar Hero virus. In that they are releasing a new version every year and the only thing they change/add is stuff that SHOULD have been in the game sense day one, and charging you full price for it AGAIN!

I trust some of you relize that the “10 year plan” is a load of shit, when the 360′s successor comes out it will make the ps3 obsolete, and Sony does not control when Microsoft releases its products
the problem is, that the memory problem, can be fixed reasonably easily, if sony gives ubisoft a helping hand, they need to say “this is how you spread the memory onto the 2 different 256 meg ram processors” and put it into practice, the DVD problem is, a DVD-9 isnt magically going to get bigger, the only way to solve it, is to downgrade the game, or remove some missions. therefore, if the DVD-9 ultimately is deemed too small, assassins creed will be to ps3, as GTA4 is to 360.
and it is interesting to see people replying to my comment saying “he likes anime, we are better than him, he is 15, he is a kid” and you cant say how much FF13 is going to sell till it comes out, except for the fact that FF is always on top in japan, therefore it is obvious that FF13 will be THE system seller for japan, along with MGS4, disgaea 3 (im pretty sure its ps3 exclusive) if the ps3 becomes more popular, sony will get more moneez, and can buy companies (go for bungie while you can sony! get your own line of overhyped games that sell more than the wii and get returned thousands of times) and how am i supposed to give you proof? give you a link to a video of me at EB talking to the guy that works there saying it? then you’ll all be “he’s just a ps3 fanboy faggot bitch ass nigga” and in no way will you guys accept it.

The article is about Too big for DVD not memory. Love how people change topics. SDF left out that part of the article, but yet it is illrelevent to the topic at hand. The 360′s 8gb DVD is too small. I’d have to agree, i have games on my PC nearing 7gbs ie MMORPGs and such, and they are no where near as advanced as many of the new gen games that have come out resently.
they did actually leave the memory part in at the bottom, but cut out the real problems they had with the ps3 memory.

One thing I noticed between the 360 and PS3 versions. The characters look better on the 360 version. Like Kristen Bell looks better on the 360 version of Assassin’s Creed then in the PS3 version.
