PS3 Dominating Europe After Price Drop
The recent price drop of the Playstation 3 in Europe has shown clearly for all to see that Europe is, indeed, Sonyland once again. Currently, the PS3 is setting the charts on fire in the UK where it is ranked #2 amongst videogame sales and is #1 in France for amazon’s rankings.
Where is the Xbox 360 to be found on these charts? In Microsoft’s strongest European region, the UK, it is currently selling at an amazing rank of #27, while the system cannot be found in the top 100 for the French site.
This news should be extremely disappointing to Microsoft as it tries to establish a dominant presence outside of its native land. Unfortunately for them, this appears to not be the case. Perhaps the departure of Bungie, Peter Moore, and Robbie Bach’s stake in the Xbox division is a sign of things to come. Europeans simply aren’t interested in a console that is designed to look like a toy and has a failure rate exceeding 50%. Halo 3 has apparently hardly made a dent in sales for the UK and mainland Europe where Resistance is outselling the title, despite numerous bundles and packages that are priced well below the PS3.
European gamers in general appear to have more class and sophistication than their American counterparts, and this is shown in their strong endorsement of the playstation brand.

Meanwhile Halo 3 is still #1 on the amazon.co.uk video game sales charts and apparently French gamers would rather buy Halo 3 for the 360 or Brain Training, Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, or Pokemon Diamond for the DS before buying a PS3 + Motorstorm + Resistance bundle, and you need to page along to number 43 on the list before you find a PS3 game Pro Evolution soccer) that they’re willing to pay money for. Followed by Fifa 08 at #58.
If this doesn’t spell success for the PS3 in Europe, I don’t know what does.

The delays on the PS3 console is caused by PORTING.. for those who don’t know sh#t, EA ect. creates the games for 360 and then port it to the ps3 to earn more money. Since the architecture aint the same (the ps3′s more complex) they use some time to port the game. ..but now other companies like Capcom, EA tries to build games for the ps3 platform.. and they won’t probably be playable on the 360 because the ps3 is superior (except for memory.. which you dont need with the cell cpu).

And what exactly did the price drop to? Bundles like that usually tend to be more expensive than a system alone. Esspecially for the 60 gig version. This is just more money Sony’s losing off everything they sell. Sooner they go bankrupt, the better.

I live in Europe, in the UK, and i can assure you that PS3 has a much lower userbase than 360, but bringing it down in price certainly helps (1/3 of PS3 sales before this week were launch week as it became DOA once the stupid people wasted £200 they didn’t need to)

Sony will win, 360 owners are not head in the sand types who don’t buy other consoles (not in the UK at least) whereas Sony fans are, as evidenced by this site…it’s still a lame way of winning a war though, it’d have been better to have a decent graphics processing unit in the thing, rather than rely on brand recognition

I wouldn’t go as far as saying Sony a hypocrites just because of the fact that the PS2 is a last-gen console. The Wii is SUPPOSED to be a next-gen console as well but the hardware under the hood of the Wii is way underpowered compared to next-gen consoles out today.
I do think though, that the Wii in the next couple of years will give us something special as in graphics, games, or anything because the Wii does have a little more power than people make it out to be but still pales in comparison to the PS3 and 360. Only time will tell what happens with the 3 consoles.

Oh, wow. You have to look at people who order ONLINE to find data that can be twisted to make the Playstation 2.5 (no point in being original with hatred) look good. If you haven’t been outside for the last 20 years, people tend to make a sport out of holiday purchases. Only the lazy uncaring parents buy the bulk of their presents online, from what I’ve seen. Holidays sell consoles, honestly. Get some stats from Wal-Mart or Target or, hell, even EB Games and see how that data stacks to amazon.
If Resistance is out selling Halo in Europe its because Sony is forcing you to buy it with those damn bundles. Microsoft doesn’t need to bundle Halo3 it sells systems with out it. Resistance the only way they can clear it out of the warehouse is by bundling it. But yet again just another Sony slanted report for the “Truthful” people at SDF.

You’re probably right that SONY won’t be going bankrupt (I was just making a casual exageration), but even PS2 sales are starting to drop off. Don’t get me wrong, they’re still outselling PS3, last I looked, but one thing you have to remember:
You don’t make money off of consoles, but the games. Every console, but one, has lost money at launch. Give away consoles, to sell games. Right now, however, all of Sony’s profits (that includes ALL their industries, not just SCE) are going into PS3 production. They had to take out a loan for it.
And they’re losing $250 off every one they sell. MS lost only $70 off every (original) Xbox, and they’re just now starting to make a profit thanks to Halo 3.
If it was up to SCE, we’d see the PS3 lager in the rear for the next four years, then watch the PS4 launch and so forth. SCE doesn’t call the shots: Sony execs do, and they’re losing patience. They’ve got bigger fish to fry and the PS3 is sucking them dry.
If the execs ever decide that the game industry holds no more success for them, they’ll shut down SCE, discontinue all their consoles, sell their studios and they will be gone.
PS. The PS3 is the exact opposite of the PS1 and 2. The other Playstations were little more than CD and DVD roms with a little hardware slapped on.
That’s why they sold so well.
PS3 is technologically the most superior console ever created.
That ensures it’s failure.

Even when Sony does drop the 40gig PS3 it still might be too little too late. The software this holiday just ain’t stacking up like the PS2 did a year after launch. Sure sony has there exclusives, but it may not be enough (since they are also getting the same 3rd party games as the Wii and 360).
Even with MGS4, little big planet, and others thats just not enough to make it a hit as was the PS2. Where MS and Nintendo messed up they learned, sony did the opposite this time(so far).

You are comparing apples and oranges. MS is a software developer unlike sony who is a hardware developer. Sony may have “superior” hardware but they don’t do software (an operating system) that MS does better and vice versa.
Microsoft doesn’t MAKE computers there are companies that do such as Sony, Dell, HP, and etc. If you buy a low quality computer that’s your own damn fault and also YOU ARE THE ONE THAT ALLOWED YOUR PC TO GET VIRUSES BY NOT DOING YOUR PART IN PROTECTING IT!

Tangent. Apple caught up to Microsoft because of the iPod, Ps3up. A stupid fad is all. Tangent of tangent: the PS3 isn’t necessarily the more advanced. It may have more technology applied to its graphics, but the Wii invested it into the controller.

Anywho, Xbox 360 STILL topped PS3 world wide so that’s not a big deal. We’ll see what happen in couple of weeks in Euro.

Thank you for linking that site after reading that article and then going back and reading the warranty policy from Sony I have found that there is almost no way for something to go wrong with my ps3 and have Sony cover repair under warranty. They have so many loop holes in the warranty it’s not even funny. My PS3 Has been over heating just about every time I use it and Sony maintains that its impossible for the system to over hear under normal use. They said I must be doing something beyond the normal use of the system and also keeping the system in a small enclosed space. My PS3 sits on a shelf out in the open in an air conditioned room, and as for use all I usually use it for is watching Blu-Ray movies. So far all the games I have played kinda sucked. My 360 has only froze up on my twice since I bought it on release almost 2 years ago, and if something would happen atleast Microsoft will replace my system for free.
So Halo 3 was supposed to be the miracle to save the 360, and in its release week it gets outsold by a system 360 owners keep saying has no games. As Halo 3 was the last exclusive that was ever going to be worth buying (now EA own Bioware Pandemic, Bungie and Bizarre have escaped the limited audience MS can offer Mass Effect, Halo and PGR are off the menu for 360 owners) it looks like the 360 sales will finally slide into the gutter next year.

Replaced for free, after 6-7 weeks, with a refurb that is quite likely to be battered, with DLC only usable if you’re online, so LAN games won’t work. That’s if the “refurb” is fixed at all, and not just a broken machine they sent straight out again because their repair centre is in meltdown because of the massive volume of f*cked machines they have to deal with. And even then, it’s only free if it’s an RRoD failure, not scratched discs or the many other fun things that can happen to the XB0rk 3-FixMe.
And surge protectors are for pussies, I like stuff to explode. If a consoles gonna die, I expect it to make a good show of it.

I have Halo for pc, its nothing special, maybe because I dont play single and stick to the multiplayer.
I agree with Laggi above, PS3 is only doing bad and looks bad because a majority of the games for it are ports from the 360. Ports are normally never ever better than the originals. It is a sad truth. But after seeing some of the more resently PS3 exlusive releases during the past few months I can’t help but declare it superior, despite still in doubt the PS3 will be successful. It took developers less than a year to make games that look better than Gears of War, but yet are larger and more complex, go developers for PS3 games, they have done a great job, though people still say the games are awful oddly as it is.
