Sony’s PS3 sales up 178 percent.
Looks like the Sony marketing team is back in swing, with the introduction of 40Gb and 60Gb Skus sales have seen a dramatic leap in the UK. The sales were up 178 percent, this in turn lead to other great games like Heavenly Sword, Resistance: Call of Man and Motorstorm to move up in sales positions. With all of the bad news that the Microsoft fanboys like spew, this clearly states that the PS3 is here to stay.

PS3 is selling VERY poorly in that area. Here’s a breakdown.
Lets say that my book sells only one measly copy a week.

No, you dont think you have a clue. These are European numbers, which dont matter to us in AMERICA!!! Last I checked this isnt a European site. Also, as said it some of the other comments, if your sales suck then your precents wont be very high. Thats why they are saying precents rather than the actuall numbers sold, it looks better on paper. And also, as I stated earlier, with the Xmas season getting ready to kick off people are starting to shop. Having worked in some form of reatail for a Decade now I can tell you every year people start shoping earlier and earlier. Considering the kids that want a PS3 cant afford them off their paper route pay they have to get mum and dad to buy it for them for christmas.

ok now the comment about halo being the only good game on the 360 is completely unfounded. lets take a look at the games on the 360 (and i will count some of the games that were ported or will be ported to the ps3 due to the fact that the 360 version was first and what it was meant to be on). We can start with Call of duty 2, one of the best shooters of 2005. then we also have Bio Shock, which was one of the best reviewed games of the year, and just to put this out there there has NOT been confirmation that this game will be ported to the ps3. then we have halo 3, and I dont care what the fucktards on this site say, this has been the single most successful game in the history of videogames. it sold 170 million dollars in the first 24 hours, 300 million within the first week and there were 3.6 million hours logged in the first day and 40 million hours within the first week. then we move to the elders scroll 4 oblivion, this was a game released back in 2006 for the 360 and was incredibly successful, plus the version on the ps3 is horribly buggy (even worse than it was on the 360, and it was really really buggy). then we have Rainbow six vegas, this game was originally released on the 360, and that is where it is the best, with the best graphics and gameplay. oh and i cant believe that i forgot to list Gears of war, the most popular online game (before halo 3 mind you). we also have dead rising, which is a very popular game and one of the most addictive games to date. oh and I can also put Lost planet due to the fact that there is no date for when the ps3 version will be releasing, as well as the fact that everyone who was actually interested in this game already beat it on the 360 and has no reason to play it on the ps3. ok that is enough on the games that have already been released, now i will move on to the games that wil be releasing for the 360. Ace Combat 6, Mass Effect, splinter cell conviction, and too human. and i would like to mention that rock band and Grand Theft Auto IV are being made first for the 360 then moved to the ps3, and in the case of rock band and GH3 there will be exclusive content for the 360. now what do you guys think about the comment that the 360 has no good games and will have no good games? and this does not count all of the multi platform games releasing. hmmmm i would say that the 360 is not that bad of a console.

None of the articles has figures, so whatever the actual numbers are, it still outsold the 360 when Halol 3 is supposed to be saving its saggy old ass.
@six1s, whether it’s 178% of big sales figure or a small one, it’s more than the 360 sold in the same territory, and up until now the UK has been MS second strongest market, whereas on these figures they’re in dead last. So if you think it’s bad for Sony, by you’re own reasoning, it’s devastating for the 360. You can’t have it both ways.

How bad can the ps3s sales really be when it is pretty much on par with how the 360 had sold in it’s first year. So for an overpriced system with no games, it’s selling just as well as the 360 did. Plus with this price drop in Europe and Japan and one guaranteed to come in North America by christmas, plus a ton of good games FINALLY coming out. This should keep the 2 systems pretty much aligned in sales… when comparing the first 2 years of each systems life that is. And year 2 is where the ps3 should really start to sell, it was the same with the ps2, just need the games and they are coming. FFXIII is guaranteed to sell systems in japan, gran turismo 5 and metal gear solid 4 will sell systems everywhere else. Plus there’s Ratchet, Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, any future God of Wars.. etc.

As for growing up, that’s another point, people are starting to grow out of “hardcore” games. Those of us who have been gaming before “Casual” and “Hardcore” even applied to gaming know this.
I don’t necessarily think people are growing out of hardcore games, just because casual games are selling doesn’t mean hardcore is dead. That was just a mostly untapped market. Casual gamers are mostly first time buyers, or people who haven’t really played since super mario 1 & 2 days. The hardcore are still out there, alot of whom are apparently still enjoying the ps2… which sony needs to stop supporting by latest summer 08 if it really is serious about selling the ps3.
Ok, lets be honest. We are all gamers. I own a 360 and a Wii. I will buy whatever console I need to in order to play the best games. Right now, thats the 360. The Wii has a few good games and its a good party console, but its somewhat lacking in software as well. The only choice right now for the hardcore gamer is the 360. The Wii is great fro casual games and especially younger audiences, and Nintendo is fine with that. The PS3 just doesnt have the software library to support purchasing a console right now. Sony lost a lot of exclusives early on, and the industry was kind of surprised because everyone figured that all the people that owned a PS2 would go and buy a PS3… But that didnt happen. They are buying 360′s and Wiis. Eventually more people will buy PS3′s, but Sony is not going to have the stronghold they did with the PS2 last generation. Its going to be the generation of software, and right now (and most likely at least through 2010) The 360 and even the Wii will continue to have better software.

Euhm yeah I have news for you it is casual do the maths check the consumers…its more casual than wiisports.
Can’t forget FFX13. Simply put this series moves systems, just look at the increase in psp sales when FF7 crisis core was released. This and GT5 are 2 of sony’s biggest exclusives, they just need to start pushing it as a gaming console, and start advertising the system and it’s games more.

The only real difference between the 2 systems is that the 360 currently has more games.
Look at an actual timeline when the launch dates are aligned and there’s really no difference in sales, in fact the ps3 is slightly ahead of the 360.

What these charts wont show is that the console war is being divided equally 3 ways. LAst generation is was the PS2 with a vast majority of the market, this time around, Wii and Xbox are tied for the lead and the PS3 is lagging. There is not enough room in the market for a 3 way tie, so someone is going to have to lose. I highly doubt there are lots of people still waiting to buy consoles, most have already made their decision and those decisions seem to be Wii and 360. Hell, people would rather buy a PS2 than a PS3, and that should be a giant wake up call to Sony.

Each generation the gaming market increases and the last gen sold over 200 million systems, and currently we’re sitting at around 30 million with this gen that’s only 1-2 years old. There are so many people still out there that are waiting to buy a new console. There will be no clear winner this year or next, this industry isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon and late 2008, and maybe into 2009-2010 we will really start to see what console is the choice for this gen. Whatever that may be, me I enjoyed my ps2, and got the ps3 because of the franchises that are available to me. It’s not about SONY RULES, because quite simply put, they don’t, they did at one point, and may again, but right now it’s all about the wii… 11+million in 1 year good for them, but will that last. Can they make enough games to go the long haul. Each system has it’s strengths and weaknesses and we as gamers have to choose which of the 3 we want.. if we even want to upgrade.
I caught on to the reason they used percentages instead of actual sales numbers right away, but not everone took calculus or remedial math for that matter. But you guys didnt mention that this region is only a small part of the gaming market on top of that.

Actually I got a question for every1; Why not go out and buy a 360, Ps3, or Wii? So that way you got even more games to play then you had before. It is easy to bash another console if you don’t even have it (the faults of the other console(s) are clear in your mind).
Hell how can any1 talk shit about a console if you haven’t even played it or had very limited time with it? Yeah 360′s got RRoD but does that make PS3 better? No it doesn’t. The Wii sells more consoles than the PS3 and 360, and does that make it a better console? No it doesn’t.
So the PS3 had a 178% sales increase in europe (good for them), but it doesn’t mean shit over here in the states.
If anything Sony should worry about is losing the Monster Hunter series to Nintendo. So what big deal right? Wrong. This series is a big hit in japan (almost a WoW for the consoles over there) and for sony to lose it might actually start a downward spiral for Sony. Japanese developers might think to themselves; “hey, we can’t afford to develop our games for this console only, lets jump ship to the best selling console which also happens to be easier on our wallets.” I know i will get flak for this but it is a very possible scenerio that Square and other big japanese dev/pubs might do.
So bring on the fanboism because I can’t wait to see any replys to this.

Think about it, do you really think there are 170 million people out there just waiting to decide which console they want to buy? No! As the years go on, new generation of kids are buying consoles, thats why console sales go up year after year. It’s not because of indecision on the part of the consumer. Now that all 3 consoles have been out for about a year, most people have already made their decision. Granted, a lot of younger gamers will be getting their console of choice this Holiday season, but after that, its just new customers, not indecisive ones. Way more people are buying the Wii than Gamecube, less people have bought the 360 than the original xbox and way less people have bought the PS3 compared to the PS2. Your right, these #’s will grow and by 2010 we will see a more dominant leader, but dont expect the order in which they appear right now to change.

What sony should really worry about is the PS2 owners and try to get them over. I have alot of friends who have only bought Playstation brand over the years and even they are jumping ship over to MS this holiday season. Some of there reasons are (of course Halo3) because they feel there is more of a library for the 360.

What im saying is the PS3 in global sales is way behind everyone. First the Wii is outselling the PS3 and it was out same time. Sorry but its true. As for the 360 getting a head start well maybe if Sony didn’t suck at making systems the might have hit their original release date of almost 3 years ago, and well delaying the system two years just let them disappoint more by promising more and not delivering.

I know the ps3 is being outsold by the wii, which came out at the same time. It was half the price and came with a game, plain and simple. And how could sony possibly suck at making consoles when the ps1 and 2 both sold more than 100 million each. A release date of 3 years ago? When it was only unveiled in May 05, that’s less than a year and a half before launch.
Oh and to add on to the last comment.. how can they suck at making consoles when the time between each new one is 6 years. The previous model still has huge sales at least 2 years into the life of the new model. Can Microsoft say that, oh wait they killed the original xbox almost as soon as the new one was announced, and it only had a life span of 4 years. Not to mention they’re the only ones with any forward thinking when it comes to manufacturing.. first cd not cartridge, then dvd not cd, and now blu-ray not cd, with built in hard drive and wi-fi.

Just a few things here. First, being the first to use Blu-ray doesn’t mean anything since Blu-ray isnt the standard in HD movies. Second the PS3 is way behind in the built in HDD area since the original Xbox had a built in HDD. Third the Wii came out the same time and had Wi-fi, plus the DS had built-in Wi-fi before anything else did. So how about you Sonyfanboys stop comparing yourself to just the 360, there are other systems out there that are kicking sonys ass just as bad. As for before, when i said sony sucks at making systems, they completely screwed up with the PS3. They lie to customers, they promise features and dont deliver, they take away features to cut costs. We are in the “NextGen” man, if you’re a sonyfanboy then you and sony shouldnt care about last gen. Which is what i meant when i said they suck at making systems. So a former microsoft employee is bashing sony, why am I not surprised. But being lazy, doesn’t necessarily mean the system isn’t worth working on. As far as there being nothing you can apply anywhere else from working on the cell that’s the same for all consoles, you can’t make a game for the wii or ds and then expect to program it and make it run the exact same way on the psp or xbox without having to learn the systems architecture first. When a new generation of consoles comes out the developers have to LEARN how to utilize the power of that console, which is why launch titles and most first year games aren’t usually the prettiest or deepest.. with a few exceptions.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again here, I’m no sony fanboy. I only went with the ps3 because it has the franchises that appeal to me.. Ratchet, Final Fantasy, Jak, God of War, anything by Team Ico, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, plus I still get multiplatform games like Resident Evil, and Grand Theft Auto.
Speaking about cutting costs, how about launching a system without wifi and a much needed hard drive simply to push more out at a lower cost.. then screw the consumer over by pretty much making it necessary to have an hdd to play games properly or download updates/demos.
I just love people keep saying that ps3 is getting it’s ass kicked by the wii… don’t look now but it’s kicking the 360′s as well.

According to nexgenwars.com the most unrealiable resource for sales numbers. Look at their own stories, “PS3 hits 6 million sales worldwide” and their number for it is at 4.9 million.

For week ending oct 14, ps3 outsold the 360 77,827 to 42,244 and wii coming in second with 75,033.
With ps3 having a huge increase from 31,470 the previous week.
So next time you wanna compare numbers go by actual sales, not some site that adds a number for each “sale” but doesn’t even acknowledge little things called FACTS.
And those sales numbers from slashdot, are for the month of september, not overall.

Yeah, the price was just reduced there that week. The US and Japan sales should see a similar boost, with the same price reduction. Then when the shitty 40gb no BC version comes out that should also help with sales, although I don’t know why…. you have to at least have BC for the console immediately preceding the current model.

Side note – Oblivion for ps3 shot up the amazon.com sales charts by a whopping 35,400%… was number 355, and is currently the number 1 selling video game item on the site.

Actually the best selling video game item on amazon.com is the Wii followed by Halo3, Oblivion is 9th and is the only PS3 item in the top ten. So um I would like to challenge your facts bud. Not only that but oblivion for the PS3 really kinda sucks compared to Oblivion for the 360. Graphically and in content. Now I will state this for everyone again, I am not a 360fanboy or any other fanboy. Right now for the cost, number of games, and performance the 360 is just the best choice. I do own a Wii and a PS3. I am looking forward to Ratchet and Folklore is a decent game. I’m also looking forward to checking out Eye of Judgment. I run a chain of videogame stores and for now I recommend the 360. Maybe in a few years if Sony can turn around I will recommend it. The Wii is a good family or party system but gets a little old for gaming on your own.

Actually Amazon.com’s bestsellers area is updated every hour, Oblivion just happened to be number 1 when I was on the site. So my facts are correct. Especially considering I posted at approx 8:46pm, and you posted at 10:11am the next day, I’d say they updated the site a number of times. Giving you the numbers you now see.
So then why post that like is means something. If it can change that fast and that much it really doesn’t mean anything.
Exactly my point. People are making too big a deal about this so called console war, it’s not like we get anything out of it. The best we can hope to get is really good competition from the companies trying to get us to buy their games, thereby improving the quality of games and systems overall… well that’s how it’s supposed to work.
The picture of all the people actually are not people waiting to get a ps3, they are people that bought a ps3 and are trading it in to now get food, they realised how much of their money they wasted.
