It’s official, PS3 retailing for $399

We at the SDF headquarters knew a price drop was coming for the PS3 that would make it a bargain and Sony has just made promise to show that it will be number 1, again. As times had been harsh for Microsoft and Nintendo with their slumping sales, Sony has just been rolling on with the good news.

“The PlayStation 3 with an 80-gigabyte hard drive was cut to $499 from $599, effective immediately, Sony said in a statement today. A $399 model with 40 gigabytes of storage goes on sale Nov. 2, Jack Tretton, head of Tokyo-based Sony’s U.S. video-game unit, said in an interview. “

While we are basking in our glory, we would like to take time to rest assure that the Xbox 360 will not be forgotten. We know that Halo 3 was a big disappointment, the Red Rings Lights of Death have plagued over 1/3 of the Xbox 360 population, Bungie leaving Microsoft, Peter Moore leaving the sinking ship, paying for online multiplayer where the PSN is FREE. All of these cons of the inferior Xbox 360 will hopefully be forgotten with the sale surge of the PS3.

* The picture above is from Ps3fanboy.com, it is detailing the superiority of buying a PS3 at a significant decrease in price. It sure does look like the PS3 is by far the best console to date.

Notice no PS2 compatability or any fucking games cumming with it.

he should also notice that the “PS” in PS3 mean pretty shitty and it means pretty shitty games

  3. they also leave out the fact that even though the PS3 comes with HDMI plugs, it doesn’t come with a HDMI chord, where as the Xbox 360 Elite does.

  4. $279 xbox 360 arcade has been confirmed

  5. Tahts funny, I look at this chart and clearly see that the Xbox Premium for $349 is clearly the better deal. It comes with 3 great (free) games, but I guess software is not a real important choice for PS3 fanboys. Also, I dont see the Xbox Core Arcade console on this list… Way to leave out more of the facts SDF!

  6. Oh, and really… How long are you going to continue with this “Halo 3 is a huge disapointment” BS…. We all know you are joking but when you use the same joke over and over, it gets kind of lame.

  7. It’s one thing to say that 360 sales are slumping, but Nintendo sales? Last time I checked they are still dominating with the DS and the Wii will probably have sold more than the 360 at year’s end. On that note, even though the backwards compatibility is limited, there is a huge list of games that are supported and when you factor in two free games, I’m pretty sure the premium is still a better deal.

  8. Yeah you guys left out the fact that the new 360 SKU is going for $280.

  9. Also Modus, unlike this site, Team Win can delete comments, so noone gets to read what you have to say.

  10. Yes sales of the PS3 will undoubtly increase, but the problem is that there software line-up is pretty weak this holiday season (compared to previous years for the PS2). As far as to catching up with the 360 or Wii this holiday seasn; no way in hell.
    Sorry maybe next year sony

  11. Oh I couldn’t wait for the September sales #’s to come in… And here they are. Try to spin this Sony Fanboys! My favorite part is the 27% decline for PS3 sales.(And thats weekly!) lol

“Xbox 360 Tops Console Sales in September and outsells PS3 5:1″

o Xbox 360 sales built upon its growth from last month, showing a 50 percent increase for the month of September selling an average of 105,600 consoles per week. Total sales were more than 528,000 Xbox 360 consoles sold, compared to 501,000 for Wii and 119,000 for PS3.

o PS3 sales posted an average weekly decline of 27 percent.

Xbox 360 software revenue at retail outsold PS3′s software portfolio 8:1 and Wii’s 4:1, selling 3 times more than both platforms combined.

o For the month of September according to NPD, Xbox 360 software represented 74 percent of total software sales for the next generation market compared to 17 percent for Wii and 9 percent for PS3. Even without the sales of “Halo 3″ the Xbox 360 portfolio outsold the PS3 portfolio 2:1.

Additionally, Xbox 360 is home to the best-selling games with the top-rated next-generation titles.
o According to the world-wide authority in entertainment reviews, Metacritic, Xbox 360 has 80 titles with a Metacritic review score of 80 or higher compared to just 31 for PS3 and 11 for Wii.

Xbox 360 held six spots in the Top Ten Console Games, led by initial sales of “Halo 3″ Xbox 360
o In its first two weeks, the three editions of “Halo 3″ placed #1, 2 and 3 overall for console title sales – for a total of more than $225 million in sales in the U.S. with 3.3 million units. Average unit prices were $69 per game. The $130 “Halo 3: Legendary Edition” alone sold twice as many units as the top title for PS3 “Heavenly Sword” (SCE); the helmet is mightier than the sword.

o Proving that Xbox 360 is the new home for sports gamers, “Madden NFL ’08″ (EA) on Xbox 360 was again the leading next gen platform with 173,000 units sold, compared to the PS3 at 62,000 and Wii at 58,000. To date, “Madden NFL ’08″ has sold 1.1 million units on Xbox 360, 87 percent more than other next-gen platforms combined.

o Rounding out the top titles for Xbox 360, “Skate” (EA) came in at #6. The Xbox 360 version of the innovative titles outsold the PS3 version 6:1.

What’s more is that PS3fanboy.com actually admits that the Xbox is a fair deal:

“However, let’s not forget that the 20GB Xbox 360 includes some backwards compatibility support (the 40GB PS3 does not). In addition, you get two free games with the system.”

meh, im not spending any more money on ps2 games anyway, so now i have a reason to trade in my ps2 AND all of my games, im sure warhawk resistance motorstorm ridge racer and heavenly sword will last me for 10 days for the release of guitar hero 3

That’s kind of sad if all those games only last 10 days…

  17. Judging by the reviews of those games, 5 days would be optimistic.

  18. Yeah, the 360 still looks like a much better deal to me. I knew the graphic had to have come from another site, because if SDF made the graph, It would be something like this…

    360: RROD – YES
    Hard Drive – NO*
    HDMI – NO**
    CELL – NO!
    TEH BLU-RAYZ – NO!
    LINUX – NO!
    Crippled – YES!

    *When removed from console
    **Yes, actually.

    Get on it SDF Photoshoppers!

  19. Congrats to PS3fanboy for an unbias chart. You know if SDF had put it up, the PS3 would have been perfect and nothing good about the 360.

It still leaves the PS3 at a greater price. Slightly better graphics, half the library, and same gameplay for ports. Still leaving 360 a better deal.

And you have to worry about price for the developers, which hasn’t changed. It is early, so the PS3 should get a better library in the next year or so, but unless they pull back all the developers they lost, those games will all be 360 ports.

  20. God damnit you retard 360 Fanboys. The 360 with the games is onyl a christmas special, kiss that shit goodbye Jan 1st.

Sure the PS3 doesnt come with an HDMI cable, but an HDMI cable costs what? $10. If you spend more than that on an HDMI cable your a fuckin retard and you need to take a look at the differences between digital vs analog media before you bash. Hint, digital relies on a “on/off” type signal while analog uses waves. In other words, that $200 cable that you *THINK* you need to buy is useless since you wont lose any quality when buying a $10 cable. Fucktard noobs.

PS, 360 comes with HDMI 1.2, PS3 comes with HDMI 1.3.
Developers are having problems fitting games on dvd disks, this is not an issue with blu-ray.
The 360 has between a 30 and 50% failure rate, compared to the 1% PS3 failure rate.
Halo 3 fucking blows, and its the biggest flagship game 360 has to offer.

The 80GB PS3 is not being phased out. If you NEED BC support, buy the 80 gig.
I have a 250 gig hd in my PS3 right now, can you fucktards do the same thing? Oh i am sorry, i forgot that you have to buy a $200 120 gig drive from microsoft.

ALSO try checking out the sales figures for ALL the consoles. If you actually did, you would notice that the 360 sales at 1 year are LESS than the PS3 sales at 1 year.

Shut the fuck up and bring your fanboyism elseware.

  21. willey

    youre a genius

  22. I would first like to comment on the whole backwards compatibility for a moment. I really don’t see why there is all this crap about the 40GB not having any BC, and some of the people complaining already own PS3s and why should it matter to you? I actually don’t currently own a PS3, but will in the next week, can’t wait to get it home =) but you are getting what you pay for with Sony systems. If you want BC you will have to pony up some extra cash for BC, more USB ports, and built in WiFi. I actually think this was a good move by Sony for not incorporating BC in the 40GB. This model is for the people that have no PS2 games and don’t care about playing any. I understand right now that BC is good for some people because the game line up is not as strong as the 360 and many people play their PS2 games upscaled on their PS3. But for the people that only care about PS3 games, and want to play PS3 games at the cheapest price possible, the 40GB PS3 is for them.

Also, with the 40GB SKU, more and more PS3s will be in peoples homes and this will give more incentive to developers to make more games for the PS3. REALLY, the main reason developers don’t want to waste time and money to develop a PS3 game is because it’s the console with fewest sales and developer cost is high. But when developers get more motivated to create more games, developing a game for the PS3 will just get easier and easier for them. I remember a little while back watching a Interview with the developers of Insomniac, and when they were creating the first Spyro it took them 2 weeks to create just one map, but a couple years of working with the PS1 they now can make the same map in less than 2 hours O_O. As you see it takes time to learn new hardware and software and once you do your life is much easier.

  23. Here is why ps3 BC matters:

I own 4 ps2′s. Each of them decides it wants to work about 20% of the time. It’s extremely frustrating, but my ps2 library is big enough that I deal with it. I don’t want to pay $129 for a system that won’t be getting any new games that I want to buy. So, I have a dilemma of buying ANOTHER ps2 for my old library of games, or I can eventually buy a ps3 when a few more games come out for it. IF there is no BC on the PS3, I’m gonna wait a hell of a lot longer before grabbing one, because my ps2 games would be a reason to buy a ps3. As it stands now, They would have to make the ps3 $129 for me to want one without BC, because the game library is such garbage. However, if the ps3 had backward compatability at the same price as a 360, when the next major game came out (the ICO team’s game, or GOW3, or a game of that caliber), I’d be inclined to buy one. As it stands now, I won’t pay $50 more than a 360 for a game library that is smaller, and the exclusives are weak.

And of course it only takes Insomniac 2 hours to create a spyro level after they have the textures and assets :P

  24. We all knew that the ps3 price would drope, but to lower the price of the 80GB to $499.00 and still comes with the game thats a good deal.

  25. But the 360 is cheaper and comes with TWO games.

  26. And You get 5 Free blue-ray movies when you buy a ps3 the gamestop Webside have the promotion. Thats a good deal go get one now

  27. The five free movies are from a selection of C grade titles. I’d rather have the two Grade B games.

  28. * The picture above is from Ps3fanboy.com, it is detailing the superiority of buying a PS3 at a significant decrease in price. It sure does look like the PS3 is by far the best console to date.

so we should trust the word of fanboys now?

  29. @PS3UP

If you buy Xbox 360 HD-DVD player, you’ll get 1 free dvd AND another 5 free movie from promotion. Did I mention that it included remote control? OH YES IT DOES. If you buy any of the HDMI xbox, it’ll include the HDMI cable. PS3 doesn’t include the HDMI cable, it’ll cost me another 70 bux plus I need to buy a $60 game to enjoy fully. Just movie is pretty lame.

I believe Xbox 360 HAS better value overall.

  30. Most people with a brain would agree with you Hark!

  31. @ Hark659

Well From a pure hardware standpoint, I think the PS3 is now a better deal than the Xbox 360 Premium.

The larger hard drive, the built-in wireless adapter and the Blu-ray movie player are simply a phenomenal deal for a mere 50 bucks extra.
But the PS3 price cut does make the console attractive, both for the crush of indiscriminate Christmas shoppers in the next few weeks and for the discerning gamers waiting until early next year for blockbusters such as Metal Gear Solid 4 and LittleBigPlanet.

Plus, Microsoft is going to be under a lot of pressure once the Halo 3 effect wears off to slash the 360′s price to stay ahead of the PS3.

  32. Wow, its amazing since Halo 3 was rated 10/10 on so many sites how many 360 fanboys take time out of their day, well every day to come and make comments about the PS3. If this site is such shit, if its so bad, if it angers you so much then Why the Fuck are you Posting on it and not playing Halo? Why are you so concerned with a “Failing” console?? My 2 cents.

Didn’t you already mention that in the other article?

  34. Yes i did just in case, and yea the HDMI cable is like $40.00 dollars at RadioShack.

  35. @Ps3Up, depends on quality, I have seen them for 100+ some places

  36. and I think the point was they wanted $600 for a console and couldnt even throw in a cable

  37. Elite is a waste of money, PS3 is a bargin. The 360 is pretty nice, but until they come with a HD DVD built into it for larget games in the future I will never get it.

  38. @Ps3Up

You’re saying that PS3 have good deal because your moma brought it for you? If you have to buy your own console with your own money, you wouldn’t be able to afford one. I can tell that you’re too young to own one, pity.

  39. I am sick of hearing this about the PS3 is greater cause it supports Blu-Ray, so games can be longer. The truth is the games that are being released for both system are almost identical. And take up the same size on the disc. Sony is bleeding money right now. It seems the only ones deveoping games on Blu-Ray is Sony. They can’t do a great job either as Heavenly Sword and Lair turned out to be bombs. I will not buy a PS3 until I know I will get an ROI on it as I have with my Wii and 360. Right now there are not great games for it therefore the price could be $199 and I still wouldn’t purchase it.

  40. Yeah, the PS3 is SO great that Devs are canceling games for it!

  41. For fuck sakes. There is no “different quality hdmi cable”. You can buy that $400 HDMI cable, but there is no point because

    http://www.ehdmi.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240&cs_id=1024002&p_id=2283&seq=1&format=2&style=

That cable will give you the EXACT same quality as that $400 monster cable.

If we are talking about analog signals then there is a difference in quality when you get different cables. Here is the explanation.

With digital media, the signal is sent as either a 0 or a 1. Or on/off. a digital signal looks something like

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:S_digital.PNG

Because of this feature, if the signal becomes a little broken, it doesnt matter. If there is a little interference, it still doesnt matter. Since the signal is either on or off, slight interference is NOT going to effect quality since there is onyl two possabilities in the signal, and these possabilities are easily differenciated even with interference.

With analog however ther eis a quality loss in the signal when there is interference. this is an analog wave (basically)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Wave.png

With analog the quality of the output is dependant on the entire wave. If ther eis interference, that wave can become jagged and therefore create problems with the quality in the signal, which in turn creates problems with the picture. Buying a plated cable with interference reduction helps the quality in this case since the quality is dependant on the wave as a whole.

So, now that your somewhat educated on HDMI cables, shut the fuck up about the PS3 not coming with one.

  46. @bejayel

    you forgot something

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_resistance

the cable makes a difference in that regard and the one below

Buying a plated cable with interference reduction helps the quality in this case since the quality is dependant on the wave as a whole.

so you dont think there is something wrong with paying $600 dollars and not getting a $10 cable?

  47. sonydefenseforceisgay Says:

I would rather get the system that is 50 bucks less and comes with free games. Plus why would i want to buy a glorified Blu-Ray DVD player anyway.

  48. @Trinity

    Go back to school.

Again the resistance applied would cause the wave to not be as strong, but in digital that doesnt matter. A small change in wave size does NOT change quality.

  49. @bejayel

you are aware that there is a “dead zone” between a high and a low in digital, so it could indeed matter.

What you PS3 Pillocks again fail to realise is the fact your prices in the UK have dropped by £200 in less than 3months. The Xbox 360 Elite has been made in small quantities because it was just an hyped up version of the original Xbox 360. It just has a better fanning system, more memory, quicker and looks sweet in black. Where as the PS3, you can’t even get at the hard drive without a screw driver and around 30 minutes. The PS3 is so damn flawed Sony should just stop making consoles and stick to TVs and sound systems. Mind you, they are not very good at that either.
