This is what Christmas will look like for the Xbox 360 across all retail outlets, especially in the UK where the Xbox 360 ranks 95th on the amazon charts. PS3, in comparison, is ranked 13th and has PES soccer tearing up the charts for the PS3 software, whereas the 360 version is nowhere to be found.
Truth be told, the Xbox 360 was stillborn in the UK. The only reason it was able to linger around for this past year is due to the fact that the PS3 has only just recently released in the region. Let’s also not forget the fact that in the UK the PS3 is priced $200 more expensive than the Xbox 360. Who can blame them for wanting to pay more for quality? Eight synergistic processors compared to three. Blu-Ray instead of DVD. nVidia instead of ATi. Free online with dedicated servers compared to 56k p2p garbage. Free wifi. Standard Hard Drives. 0% failure rate versus 75% failure rate. Is there any redeeming quality to the Xbox 360?
Peter Moore is leaving the sinking Xbox 360 ship. Robbie Bach is leaving the sinking Xbox 360 ship. Bungie is leaving the sinking Xbox 360 ship. And now the UK is leaving the titanic, although that analogy might not be fitting because let’s not ever try and compare the Titanic with the Xbox 360 — at least the Titanic was the most powerful ship of its time and sank because it hit an iceberg. The 360 fails just by turning it on. Perhaps if the Titanic were a small motorboat that failed upon engine startup the analogy would be a bit more fitting. Nevertheless, this only suggests the question of when, not if, the Xbox 360 will sink in America.
360 may never fall, and rightly so. Despite I myself will never get a 360, it is hard to believe it would die. Too melted into the US gaming culture now, and that culture can keep it alive even it the worst of times just like Sega of old in Japan. Didn’t know it was a 75% failure rate? Highly doubt 360s fail that often, but if it was a PC, i’d refuse to buy it because even a 10% failure rate is too much for me. PCs are more expensive than any game console.

The 360 definitely doesn’t fail 75% of the time, I think only a few thousand (yeah that’s still kind of high) people have got RROD, I know two of my friends have. Plus the newer 360′s got better heat sinks.

Here in the UK the XBox 360 has won already. The only reason that it is doing well in the charts is that they have reduced the price to only being £50 more than the xbox rather than £150 more.

everyone seems to forget the extremely low chance a console will fail, the dreamcast failed because
1. sony completely overran them and
2. the dreamcast was WAY to easy to play bunred games on. im not old enough to know why atari got kicked out of consoles.
and for the record, a console is deemed a failure if it gets the company no profit whatsoever, the fact that the ps3′s arent selling well right now is actually a good thing for sony, they lose money for each ps3 sold, cant say anything about the future though, regardless, if a console earns the company ANY profit no matter how much profit (even $1) the console cannot be deemed a failure, a letdown, yes, but not a failure.

They actually lose $250 for each PS3 manufactured. It’s just they don’t get it back when they sell it. It’s the games that aren’t selling, which is where they’re supposed to be making cash.
Now, every console has lost money at launch. The original Xbox lost $70 dollars apiece, and they’re just now making a profit. It takes a while. Meanwhile, the Wii is the first console in history to be sold at higher than production cost, actually making money with a sale. (And Nintendo said no price drop anytime soon).
SCE doesn’t predict a profit until 2009, and that was overly generous. The Sony empire (and I mean everything from Walkman to Sony Pictures) is making 0, that’s zero, profits right now. The PS3 is sucking them dry.
But this picture has been used before, and BTW, it’s not European.
P.S. @animekid again, Atari died because the entire industry died back in the early 80′s. Nintendo brought it back, and Atari was never able to re-establish its hold.
All in all, however, the PS3 is doing about the same as the Saturn did. A better analogy when you compare consoles.
But as for Sony and Sega, they’re complete opposites.
1. Sega is not as tight-ass about they’re profits as Nintendo, let alone MS. As for Sony, let’s not go there.
2. Sega was used to playing second-fiddle. Even the Genisis, in the end, fell behind the SNES, profits and popularity. Sony has been #1 since they entered the industry.
3. All Sega does is games. Sony has dozens of other industries to make them money. Why waste it all on the one that doesn’t?
4. Sony doesn’t even make games. SCE publishes them, when they come from the studios they own.
The executives in the Sony office are losing patience. If they ever decide that the PS’s are no longer a decent source of revenue, they’re not going to hang around like Sega did.
They’ll sell the studios, halt PS production, shut down SCE, and they will be gone.
Sony is an electronics biz first and foremost, a gaming biz second. If the gaming div. starts to seriously impact their normal profits, they’ll cut it off like a gangrenous limb!

Heat sinks? Not really the reasons the 360s broke if I recall, even my PS3 gets a tad warm, but nothing leaving it on a pull out shelf so I can give it air but yet store it easier in my entertainment center couldn’t solve. I’d asume any heat problems the 360 would have would be solved the same way, ie not putting it in a tight confined space when in use. Like the world of the PC, give it air! lol They need air, even if it isn’t super cool air, any air cooler than the inside of the machine will cool it down much better than a heat sink.

Developers don’t want to make games exclusively for the PS3 because they have to invest time and money into new and complex architecture which in the end doesn’t have as large of an install base as the 360 and Wii.

When you say things like the PS3 having 8 processors (It has 1 3.2GHz processor that has 1 PPE and 7 SPEs), Xbox Live being 56k (Its broadband), and the 360s having a 75% failure rate (Highest estimate from a real source is 33% and that is the highest one), you completely lose any kind of credibility, and that is even before taking into account that you are trying to use Amazon top seller lists as actual sales data…
Actually, the original Xbox wasn’t overrun by the PS2. PS2 came first and the Xbox had to follow it it’s wake. That’s one (just one, mind you) reason they made sure to get a head start this time.
But Sony lost developers long before the launch, let alone when sales started to drop off. They’re actually gaining a FEW back in hopes sales will pick back up.

@six1s: sega’s 2nd console was the flop that started them on their way to their downfall, plus looking at the specs of nintendo’s 3rd console in some parts it seems like the ps3, in other more like the 360
1. the n64 had a lot less storage space for games
2. the n64 had the lower loading times
but the n64 had better graphics (from what im told) and had the lower choice of games, although from using history from SONY, they usually do absolutely crap upon the release of all he competing consoles, until a final fantasy comes out xD ps3 is still no. 2 in japan, only to be beaten by the wii, AND sony are based in japan, so that would make sense for them to appeal more to the japanese audience. final fantasy 13 will be the ultimate decider for japan, although they’ve pretty much secured the japanese market with 2 ff13 titles coming out, not to mention kingdom hearts 3, final fantasy and kingdom hearts are what lead me to the ps2, and there is no real change, even though im looking forward to LBP, ratchet and clank (not out in aus yet) motorstorm 2, MGS4, GT5, god of war 3, there just arent enough games on the 360 for me, just a lot of shooters that ive got on pc, (i love crackdown though)
I hate it when people say there are only FPS on the 360. When they say that, they mean “I’m a big RPG fan and there arent a lot of these on the 360) Never mind that the 360 practically launched with Elder Scrolls 4 or the fact that they have Final Fantasy XI and Blue Dragon. The 360 also has some small game called Mass Effect and Lost Odyssey and Infinite Undiscovery on the way. I mean, these games are at least 40 hours long, how many RPG’s do you need before you stop saying the Xbox has only FPS. Look at Bioshock! Sure, thats technically a FPS but it includes so many other genres as well that its not fair to call it a pure FPS. Game genres are combining and its these new hybrid genres that are going to become the best games. Games like Bioshock and games like Mass Effect!

As of 8/10/07 only 17% of all Xbox 360 games on the market were FPS. Only 22% of all good games (games that scored above 80 on MetaCrtic) were FPS.

hmmm More content and high definition? Did you even check the disk two special features? A lot more than the average bonus disk over it’s DVD counter part, but that is still odd why it’s two disk, though I could assume for one good reason, just like my mother when it comes to DVDs, she always gets lost on them, She did one time end up watching special features on one movie thinking it was the movie. lol So sticking them on a second disk perhaps to keep the idiots from screwing up? Dumb exuse on m part, but it is a good point, why is the Blu-Ray Special Edition* two disk;? there are two Blu-Ray Editions of Spider Man 3 don’t forget that, only one is 2 disk.

pretty stupid for gamespot to complain about there not being headsets included in a standard ps3 system, when the 360 doesnt have wifi, rechargeable battery, or a HD drive put in any… not to mention you can easily get warhawk for the price of an aerage 360 game with a headset, warhawk is the only real game we need it for, except for resistance team matches. the in game XMB is coming on firmware 2.00, and HOME has bloody been delayed until early next year. but sony didnt put enough features and stuff for online on the initial release, and they still aren’t here, but they’re coming… just like with every sony system, we have to wait a year and a half for the good stuff.

wednesday: nothing, go to the hyperdome (my local “mall” as the americans call it) if any of my friends that still go to school are wagging.

friday: do my “working at home” music course (making songs pretty much… for a course…)
saturday: anime screening with my mates
sunday: go to movies, or go somewhere random with mates. holidays are pretty much the same, exceot there are no graphics design or music work for me to do, so more time for going to movies and random places (theme parks… walk around the city etc.)

possible, but unlikly, I doubt that adding a layer costs as much as another disc, but you know, there will be multiple disc ps3 games because of the data duplication factor. because in reality you have to either 1. have long load times or 2. Duplicate data alot, effectively reducing its capacity to about what a DVD holds.

Actually since I don’t really give a crap about either HD-DVD or Blu-ray or which one is “better”. I don’t have the benefit of a HDTV so it don’t matter too much for me right now.

I do own a 360 and not a ps3 or a wii so does that make me a MS Fanboy? I think not. I would love to get my hands on a PS3 and a Wii but it’s either money plays into the equation, or it being available, or both.
I do believe this site does have it’s fanboys on it and that they are not fully informed or do the research themselves. I goto this site to get a laugh out of it and the stupid articles that put a smile on my face and to put my 2cents in.

Funny story… 3 different people from work ask me what console to get for this hollyday (because they see me playing my psp at break and they know i’m a gamer) so of course the PS3 was the choise after i told them about the blue-ray, free online and all of the better stuff, two of them got the 80GB ps3 they are like $499.00 i think and the other one got the 40GB its like $399.00 so it make me think i just did something good. and now i have friends from work that i can play online with.

I mean, SHIT! The VC gets updated weekly, the titles aren’t always the best, but PSN gets new games, HOW often? Also the PS3 is about to get clobbered this month.
PSN gets new ps1 games twice every month (japanese store at least lol, i love the japan store)… but seriously, im getting the wii pretty much for metroid and monster hunter 3. just like the ps3, the wii has a LOT of potential for good games, but developers like to keep doing the same thing over and over again, i dont blame them, i wouldnt be happy if i was suddenly told i have to make a game with new coding or trying to use a full on motion sensing controller.
BUT if monster hunter 3 has shitty online like every other wii game i’ve had a go on at my cousin’s house, i’m not even gonna spend what… AUS$400 for a wii+MH3.

I think the cheaper ps3 is a decent idea, but removing backwards compatability for no reason at all just pissed me off. It was a terrible choice to do that and Sony’s justification of doing it was ridiculous, for me there is no solid reason for me to buy a ps3, i don’t own a HD TV, i don’t like RPG’s or Metal Gear Solid, the removal of the backwards compatability and the price, none of that appeals to me or alot of people.

3 hour long games? Even the worst PS3 game i own isn’t 3 hours long, it is 26 hours long, and the reviewer said that was short. I played a Dreamcast game a player could beat in an Hour and a Half, and i thought it was one of the best game stories ever. lol

Sorry to bug you but this what bothers me “I’m a gamer”. If you’re really a gamer then why you only play PSP and PS3 games and only choose sony products ?
To me a true gamer is that they don’t care what system is better. They only care about games, they’ll be happy to own all system included PC. Not just picking on only one system because it has all the feature. All system have pros and cons. PS3 is better then Xbox 360 for some reason, Xbox 360 is better then PS3 for some reason. Wii is better on those two system on some reason.
All you do say that PS3 is the only best system out there, than I believe that you’re not a true gamer. One of my friend is a true gamer because he owns all the console and has no favorism on the consoles. I asked him what console is better and this is what he said “psh, all of them” .

DS and 360 are not competing in sales. DS is competing with the PSP. Which DS is killing in sales. Hell if you go by what you are talking about DS is beating every system except maybe the Wii.

Microsoft has had a notoriously difficult time cracking the Japanese console market, but this week the company notched its biggest victory in the country since Halo 3 topped the sales charts. The latest figures from Media Create show that the Xbox 360 sold more units than Sony’s PlayStation 3 in the Land of The Rising Sun for the week ending November 4.
Last week’s figures showed the DS Lite still on top with 78,552 units, the PlayStation Portable following with 59,714, the Wii at 37,617, the Xbox 360 at 17,673, the PS3 at 17,434, and the PS2 at 10,209.
The previous week’s sales, in contrast, recorded 3,718 Xbox 360s sold, and the week before, 3,011. The jump in sales was attributed to the release of 360-exclusive title Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, which debuted at number two in the chart, and sold 76,708 copies in the first week.
