Ubisoft: Assassin’s Creed too big for DVD

Assassin’s Creed Blu-ray

Don’t say we didn’t warn you. It seems the developer of Assassin’s Creed is having trouble squeezing in all the game data onto a DVD. It looks like PS3 fans score another victory with yet another superior 3rd party port. I wonder what features they’ll have to cut out to get the game on the DVD? Will the 360 version run in sub-HD resolutions like Halo 3 and other 360 titles?

The game’s creative director, Patrice Desilets, told Pro-G in an interview that one of the biggest challenges the team is currently facing is fitting everything into a 360 DVD disc compared with Sony’s Blu-ray format.
[...]
“Right now we have a big challenge on the 360 to make it fit on a DVD, to put five languages, to put all the data on eight gigs. On the Blu-ray side we’re really good, but then the memory is quite different. “

Playstation Eye, bringing it to the competition.

October 10th, 2007 blasphemy

On October the 23rd, Sony is adding another component to its successful Playstation name, the Playstation Eye. At the little price of $39.99, Playstation 3 owners will be able to add another dynamic level of gaming experience to their arsenal. What makes the Playstation Eye better than its predecessor?

  • Runs at 640 x 480 resolution at 60 FPS compared to the Xbox live vision which runs at 640 x 480 resolution at 30 FPS
  • When running at 320 x 240 it looks even better at 120 FPS
  • Built-in 4-microphone array, meaning that you could be sitting at your couch and talking without having to be close in proximity to the Playstation Eye.
  • A 2-setting zoom lens with fixed focus.

While these features are more than enough to inspire the gifted Playstation owners into buying this quality good, it will also come bundled with the Eye of Judgement game. Even better is that Playstation 3 owners will be able to download Eyecreate software FREE from PSN. This software gives the user the capability to create videos, edit and share them. I’m sure some creative SDF users will send in a montage of the Xbox 360 RROD problem. Once again, Sony is showing its true colors.

(Not So) Monday Mail: The Halo 3 Review

Monday Mail: Halo 3

This weeks (not so) Monday Mail includes emails sent in about SDF’s controversial Halo 3 review. Some agreed, others didn’t. Here are a few of the emails that stood out amongst the rest.

Trey wrote:
FYI the 7/10 was for single player campaign, multiplayer got a 10/10 and
the overall score was 9/10.

Thought Id send this in an email, doubt you will read it and less likely
post it. If you wanna spin it, say it was that $800 bag of swag they
probably got because they are actual game reviewers working for an actual
company.

Yes you are right. The fact that MS sent all major reviewers $800 worth or ‘swag’ had nothing to do with the near perfect review scores Halo 3 has received. Lets forget about the extremely short campaign, the horrid cutscenes and dialogue and all the rest.  Lets not even get into the graphics.  Upon first booting up my copy of Halo 3 for review I had to double check and make sure they didn’t accidentally put a Halo 2 disc in it’s place.  Yes, it’s that bad.  Oh yeah, Halo 3 multiplayer would be a 10/10 if Battlefield 2, Resistance, Team Fortress 2 and Haze didn’t exist and it was 1998.

Great Halo 3 review guys. I’m sure SDF is going to get slammed for going against the grain on this one but wow you really did nail it in your review! Itll be funy in 1-2 years when people look back on this review and be like “you know wat, sdf was spot on”. you wont get the credit you deserve but just know that there are fans out there like me who believe in this site and it’s cause. sdf victory my friends!

Thanks for the email Bosco. We here at SDF appreciate your support through the good and bad times. We also believe our Halo 3 review will stand the test of time and it will be interesting to see what the general consensus of the game truly is after all the Master Chief worship dies down.

Sony to Capcom: Keep your ports

MH3 Wii

The breaking news today is that Capcom’s much milked Monster Hunter series will have an exclusive version on the Nintendo Wii. With the tremendous amount of FUD floating around out there SDF feels the need to step in and give it’s unbiased assessment of the news.

This is a great thing for the Sony platform. Sony knows that it needs to look beyond last gen titles and franchises to move forward. Brand new IPs like Resistance, Motorstorm, Lair, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword and the rest will define the Playstation 3 as the number 1 platform this generation… not last gen rehashes like Monster Hunter.

Rockstar: LA Noire impossible on 360

October 8th, 2007 BennyB

LA Noire PS3

Some new and interesting details about Rockstar’s much hyped LA Noire have recently been leaked out. It seems LA Noire is exclusive to PS3 by default seeing as how it’s impossible to put on the Xbox 360. Looks like the Blu-ray drive isn’t as pointless as MS F.U.D. would have you believe. More on this breaking news as we receive it.

More details:

* The game will be a free-roaming title with a historically-accurate recreation of Los Angeles in 1947.
* Team Bondi has even hired a costume designer to research the clothing of the era so the game’s attire can be accurate.
* Aside from main story, side missions will be based on actual cases pulled straight of the newspapers of 1947.
* A US Marine plays a big role in the story.
* Not so exclusive…but LA Noire definitely ain’t coming to Xbox 360, the size of the game is an obstacle to this.

BREAKING: Next GTA PS3 Exclusive

360 Excuses

According to the November 2007 issue # 76 of the Official Xbox Magazine, Sony has secured the next Grand Theft Auto, which would be number 7 in the series, to be a true exclusive to the PlayStation 3.

Clearly Rockstar were fed up with the limitations of the 360 GPU, CPU last gen DVD media, and lack of standard HDD.

No doubt GTA Next will make GTAIV look like a Dreamcast game now that Rockstar can fully harness the power of PS3.

Welcome home GTA.

GTA 1 – 1
GTA 2 – 2
GTA 3 – 3
GTA Vice city – 4
GTA San andreas – 5
GTA 4 – 6
