HD-DVD Death Watch: $99 HD-DOA Player Fire Sale

Recently Toshiba decided to opt out of the high definition market when they put their A2 line of HD-DOA players on clearance throughout walmarts across the country. This lead other retail outlets such as Best Buy and Circuit City to start selling the HD-DOA player at clearance prices as well in order to clear out inventory for DVD’s true successor, Blu-Ray.
While it’s not surprising to see Toshiba release their players at a clearance price, SDF did not expect the decision to come so soon. Perhaps after the news that Transformers did nothing to stimulate interest in the dying HD-DOA brand, they felt hopeless up against the release of Spider man 1, Spiderman 2, Spiderman 3, Ratatouille, Cars, Pixar’s Short Film Collection, the Die Hard series, and Pirates 3.
With the remaining HD-DOA players leaving the shelves, this will allow retailers to clear up valuable space for Blu-Ray players and the extensive Blu-Ray software lineup. This act of desperation on behalf of Toshiba only spells immediate doom for the already dead and dying format.
Luckily, consumers are smarter than to pick up HD-DOA players at anything more than the prices they’re now being offered at. Nobody in their right mind wants to be stuck with an inferior stop-gap format that can only support 30 GB discs, 36 Mbs, and feature weak studio support. Playstation 3 will steamroll the competition this season with their competitive $399 SKU and will provide consumers the only true way of playing movies that feature: 1080p, 7.1 lossless, 50 GB discs, 54 Mbs, and a stellar lineup of movies.

1st !
Awesome, I’m really hoping these cheap HD DVD players make it to Australia, christmas presents for all!
Is there a source for this article?
Where is the source for this? I heard that Walmart is selling the HD-DVD players for cheap, but this is only a gimmic by toshiba to sway the war towards HD-DVD. No one said Toshiba is leaving the market.
source? hahahhahaha…. SDF is THE source.
thats good that theres more teh blu-rayz movies coming out, finally have a reason to dust off the PS3.
Blu-Ray players are really taking off…just look what K-Mart has recently decided to do…
Kmart drops Blu-ray for the holidays
31 October 2007 23:04 by DVDBack23
Kmart drops Blu-ray for the holidaysKmart has announced that they will be dropping Blu-ray players for the holidays due to their high prices. The company will be focusing solely on HD DVD instead.
The HD DVD Promotions Group said the move was made because Blu-ray players “are more tailored to home theater enthusiasts” while HD DVD has players under $200 USD available now and most likely for under $150 after Thanksgiving.
Best Buy is selling the Toshiba HD-A2 for $179 USD, and other retailers such as Amazon and Circuit City have it for $198 USD making it by far the cheapest standalone HD player on the market. The Microsoft Xbox 360 add-on drive meanwhile, is selling for $164 USD with the first season of Heroes, which normally retails for $70 USD.
Sears, on Black Friday, will be offering the new Toshiba 1080i HD-A3 for $169 USD with 7 free movies, a deal that should make any interested buyer more than excited.
Sorry SDF…with the lower cost of HD-DVD, it’s bound to appeal to a larger demographic and thus have a larger installed base. Hmmm…Blu-Ray death watch anyone?
Wait…. Didnt SONY just lower the price of the 60 GB to clear out their inventory? ha ha ha…. PS3rd place Firesale! Way to shoot yourself in the foot with your own sarcasm!
SO someone lowers prices why is it ps3 news worthy
If they do release them at a clearence point then more ppl will by them than a blu-ray player. Just like the Wii and 360; HD-DVD would be in more households than the (PS3) Blu-Ray format. If this article is even factual (which it probably isn’t.)

SDF lacked infos because they’re fanboy, end of story.
Yes A2 version became cheaper, know why? Because there’s an update HD player which is version A3. So basically they’re just clearing out the version A2 to make room for A3 version.
Kmar….. KMART….. everybody didn’t know it’s still alive!!! I live in Edmonton when there are over 1.1 millions population and Kmart doesn’t existed in Edmonton.
I don’t own any of the format player yet, I’m just enjoying reading news about format wars because bunch of whinnying babies arguing over the internet.
Original DVDs is strong right now.
This is some great news… to laugh at while cummin’ in a girls mouth. BAM!
Sauce?
I’m surprised that this article is actually all facts besides the usual SDF slant we’ve come to love.
I hope DVDs stay supreme for films, HD DVD and Blu-Ray for films is just too darn expensive still.
Well, SDF is right. You know every one on earth is thinking “Man, I wish my discs had 50 gigs of space instead of just 30. I mean, what on earth am I suppose to do with a measly freaking 30? No movie can be watched on that! Mabye I should sell my house and by a PS3.” Yeah, Nintendo’s doomed.
lol mmikej
So lowering prices = dead?
Well I guess that means the PS3 is on death’s doorstep.
So since the PS3 is dying(Price drops = death!)
Recently Sony decided to opt out of the console market when they put their PS3 on clearance throughout the country. This lead other retail outlets such as Best Buy and Circuit City to start selling the PS3 at clearance prices as well in order to clear out inventory for gaming’s true successors, The 360, and the Wii
While it’s not surprising to see Sony release their console at a clearance price, Team Win did not expect the decision to come so soon. Perhaps after the news that Ratchet and Clank did nothing to stimulate interest in the dying Playstation brand, they felt hopeless up against the release of Resident Evil: UC, Mass Effect, Super Mario Galaxies, Mario & Sonic Olympics, and The 360′s superior versions games like of Assassin’s Creed. Just to name a few.
With the remaining PS3s being put on clearance, this will allow retailers to clear up valuable space for The Wii and 360′s impressive software lineups. This act of desperation on behalf of Sony only spells immediate doom for the already dead and dying console.
Luckily, consumers are smarter than to pick up PS3s. Nobody in their right mind wants to be stuck with an inferior stop-gap console that can only get crummy ports, and less then spectacular exclusives. Microsoft and Nintendo will steamroll Sony this season with their superior games.
In a different article i commented on; why the hell is SpiderMan3 on 2 blu-ray disks? My 30gig IPod can hold over a couple thousand songs, or 40 hours of video (including movies and depends the quality of the videos).
@six1s
no u see now mo peepz can get teh best system on the world the ps3 & get rid of wiiwii & 360 cuz they sux & teh ps3 b da bomb
can u dig it
xboxkilla,
I may misspell things from time to time, but at least I make the effort to type complete WORDS.
selling more hd-dvd players means they’re failing? wow!
@six1s
dont hate teh playa hate the game now walk on home punk b4 me & my l33t crew of ps3 fools own u
Sony should just get rid of games play part of the ps3 and just sell it as a cheap blu-ray player!
PORTAL SONG FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1one
lmao xboxkilla, you may be mocking ps3 owners but its still hilarious, and i dont think six1s gets it.
xboxkilla,
To quote Samuel L. Jackson…
“English mother fucker! Do you speak it?!”
The “articles” get more hysterical each time. Keep up the jokes SDF!
Hey the price dropped on a TV the other day. TV’s are dying! Who needs TV’s anymore?? All I need is a PS3 and B rate games.
I am DVD, i pwn both Blu Ray and HD DVD, they are but moths fluttering towards my non high defenition flame….mwuhahahah
Notice the movies up there are all Sony’s own, and Disney. That’s the only ones going for Blu-ray. This is priceless! lol
Lol six1s, I like the modification you gave to SDF’s article; consistency.
Lowering Price can mean three things.
1: HD DVD developers have made enough money they can afford to do so.
2: Cost to Manufactor HD DVD players has done down.
3: HD DVD is hurting DVD sales wise, so it’s a bid to sell more HD DVD players so more people will buy HD DVD over Blu-Ray.
I believe it may be Number 3, only because the ware between HD DVD and Blu-Ray has all but been a stalemate, neither side able to gain the upper hand in the war, droping the price of HD DVD most likely just means a bid to gain more consumers.
I know this has got rag all to do with Bluray and HDDVD, but I wonder what SDFs response is to the XBOX 360s superior version of PES2008?
Cos the lag and slowdown makes the PS3 version almost unplayable!! And I thought the PS3 was a more powerful system!
Question of the Day:
Q: Why did Sony remove backward compatability from the PS3 completely with the new 40 gb version that costs $399?
A: Sony’s PS3 software sales are hurting bad. The cause of the pain? Playstation 2 software! Sony Playstation 3 owners are buying way more PS2 software. Guess Playstation 3 owners aren’t that stupid after all and realize than rather spending 60 bucks on some craptastic next gen game or a poorly ported Xbox 360 game, they can easily buy 3 or more quality Playstation 2 tiltles. Sony is hoping that by cutting out the backwards compatability from the PS3, future PS3 owners will be forced to buy PS3 software.
3: HD DVD is hurting DVD sales wise, so it’s a bid to sell more HD DVD players so more people will buy HD DVD over Blu-Ray.
No way. I know very few people with HDTVs. The majority of those with HDTVs got them because they are flat screen. HD-DVD and Blu-ray offer little improvement over DVD for the normal consumer. VHS to DVD was a huge leap (the ability to skip chapters and start over without rewinding), but the HD DVD has brought little more to the table. The average consumer sees that they have to buy another player for $200+ after tax and pay more for the actual movie. They dont care about a little bit higher resolution at such a cost.
It’s funny how easily these articles “for” the PS3 actually show exactly why the worthless piece of plastic is failing.
Irony…
It seems as if all the cheaper retailers are dropping Blu-Ray, with WalMart’s cheap HD DVD players, and K-Mart just completely dropping the format. Since alot of the population buys electrionics at these reatilers, it’s possible that by having the mass market convert to HD-DVD, Blu-Ray will be shoved out of the way, and into the trash heap next to the lazerdisc, by nothing more than low demand for the format. It’s unlikely but possible. Unless Sony competes and gets out an identically priced Blu-Ray player, their format WILL die.
IF you go to bestbuy you see 2 shelves of blue-ray movies and if you see the HD they are only have one, they have more selection. The blue color covers look much better them the Red ugly covers the HD have.
@ PS3UP
so your saying hd-dvd is dying because they chose a red case……grasping at straws mate
is just not good looking for display Samsonj
That has to be the most INGORANT thing I’ve ever read PS3UP.

Three words…and you couldn’t be bothered to TRY and spell at least ONE of them right.
Anyway, I think Blu-ray and Disney go hand-in-hand, because when I think of failure, I think if Disney.
If I had an HDTV I’d be more inclined to give a shit.
HAHAHAHA THE PRICE OF TVS WENT DOWN, SURELY THIS MEANS THAT THE TV WILL FAIL AND PEOPLE WILL GO ON LISTENING TO THE SUPERIOR RADIO INSTEAD!
@ six1s:
Blu-Ray and Disney go hand in hand because Disney goes wherever the copy-protection scheme is the least fair to the consumer.
why is it that Sony Defence Force reminds me of the Information Minister of Iraq back in 2003?
@PS3UP
You make my brain hurt with your stupidity.
Do you know that Rush Hour 3 is still a crappy movie even with a blue case?
Seriously stop commenting on the articles; you don’t add any intelluctual reasoning or logic, and you just make yourself look stupid.
PS3 Blu-Ray Specs:
1080p – True
7.1 lossless – True
50 GB discs – Ture
54 Mbs – Lies, Lies, Lies. I have a PS3 and the few Blu-Ray movies I have played, play at 26-30 MBS
I think the bit rate of Blu-Ray on the PS3 sucks. Sony just lied to move units. I think they did that on Blu-Ray in general.
HD-DVD if far from dead. I won’t but an HD-DVD player just yet but may sometime after the holiday season. That is when retailers lower prices to clear stock for new models coming in.
Also, not mentioned by SDF is that the HD-DVD player on sale (the HD-A2) were the older generation model of HD-DVD players. The newest model is the HD-A3. Since when is it death when the older model drops in price. The PS2 doesn’t cost as much as the PS3 does it?
Samsonj,
YES! YES! YES!
For the first time yesterday I saw HDDVDs on sale at one of my regular DVD retailers. They were right next to the Blu-ray discs. There were three things I noticed right away, in order:
1. The blue is more eyecatching than the red. I say this because it’s true.
2. Much like PS3 games, there are only a handful of blu-ray titles available and only one of them is any good. This reinforced my already established opinion that there’s no reason for me to buy a blu-ray player or start investing in blu-ray movies. I am fast becoming less and less inclined to even bother browsing the blu-ray section, which means lsot sales for the blu-ray format in the future unless there are significant, advertised improvements to the library.
3. HDDVD movies are priced around the same as regular DVD movies, wheras blu-ray retails for $10-$15 more per disc. This has made me more interested in getting a HDDVD drive for my 360, especially now that I can get one cheap.
However, high definition DVD formats are still not essential pieces of hardware. Neither format will win until it’s necessary to improve on DVD storage capacity in the retail movie market. Put an entire TV series on one disc and charge fifty bucks for it, then we’ll talk.
Maybe it because you like blue.
I prefer green, It would looks cool and eye catching and maybe if HD-DVD case switch from red to green then the HD-DVD sale would go up . Good stragies.
/sarcastic off
Yeah, HD isn’t needed, if it was I wouldn’t be watching Transformers right now on my DVD player.
@six1s
You’re about as funny as this site… Pretty ****ing hilarious! Nice writeup of the PS3 dying, you should apply for a job here.
They couldn’t PAY me to work here.
And I’m on a comic artist’s salary!

really? coz i think “so successful from redoing a bunch of fairy tales that they have their own theme park, and the founder was one of the first people to be cryogenically (sp) frozen”
Name one GOOD thing Disney has made in the last 30 years that hasn’t been just a redo/ripoff/remake of someone else’s work, or a rehash of their old cartoon characters!
You can’t can ya? So shut the hell up!

i never said i give a shit about them, they are just pretty fucking successful i know they just make a bunch of ripoffs, somehow they became mega rich…
oh actually, now i think about it, lilo and stitch, i dont like it now, but way back when it was released (i was what, 10-12?) i loved it… unless that really was a rehash…
Good lord…I reiterate my emphasis on the word “GOOD”.
And quite frankly the, “Small alien coming to live a human family.” ain’t exactly a fresh concept.
It’s been fun, boys, but I’m going to just cut this site out of my favorites list. It’s not even funny enough to be entertaining anymore, and I’m around enough bad writers as it is. Bye!
so let me get this straight, hd dvd players are cheaper to manufacture and therefore can be sold for cheaper. a couple stores had a one day sale which isn’t very uncommon and that means the death of hd dvd?
@six1s: i rest my case
What case?
I made the point that Disney and Sony are both shit filled shells of their former selves.
Well actually recently Disney made a success called high school musical, they arent going broke anytime soon. Dont know how you guys got started on disney but i thought i might give my input.
PS: Im sure they blow Nickelodian (however you spell it) out of the water revenue wise.
what UTAHEME said… i dont give a flying shit about disney, but every company has their scaredy moments where all hope seems lost no matter what they try, then hideo kojima and squaresoft come to help them.
remember the original playstation that was pretty much saved by MGS and ff7? picture that all over again with a bunch of angry fanboys with 5 times the amount of random “FTW” inserts, hey, at least you guys arent the typical moronic 360 fanboys i see on youtube every 5 seconds on an MGS4 video going “its been confirmed! mgs4 is on 360! here is the link! http://www.somelying360fanboysitewithnoproof.com
but hey, at least we can all agree jack thompson is 50 times more retarded than any of us right?

_____________________________________________________
This is not a lie. Blu-Ray movies can have a MAX bitrate of 54Mbs. Most BD movies out right now are basically “DVD ports” and were not shot digitally in 1080p. Since this fact, the resolution of the MASTER copy used is much lower than 1080p meaning a lower lower bitrate can be used and have the same quality. Now, I would bet that movies coming out in the next couple of years shot in 1080p will utilize the 54Mbs bandwidth to pretty much the fullest. Just because a USB port can run at 480Mbps doesn’t mean your webcam runs at that speed. This is just a little common sense as well.
The $99 is not a clearnce sale morons. It was a secret sale for christmas. Plus what do you expect people to buy a $99 HD DVD player or a $500 Blu-Ray DVD player. More people will buy the HD player over the Blu-Ray player. Is this site ran by mentally retarded 5 year olds.
No one cares about Jack Thompson. Even the people who attack video games in general don’t want anything to do with him cause he makes them look bad.
Personally, I’ve always thought he works for Rockstar Games because of all the publicity he gives them. If it weren’t for the controversy, no one would have paid attention to Manhunt 2. Meanwhile all the “serious” anti-gamers go after the ESRB.
@animekid
If i remember correctly the PS1 had really good games for it before MGS and FF7. Those two games (although awesome games) did not make the PS1. The PS1 had a ton of great games before those released (tenchu, twisted metal, Castlevania, Crash Bandicoot, Parappa, and etc). A Great variety of games made the PS1 and PS2 for what they are and where, not just two franchise games. And you wonder why the sales of the Wii, 360, DS, and PS2 outsell the PS3
Games make the console a success; not whats under the hood.
omg cold your so right! the 360 is gonna rule because of gears and halo! seriously though, i only have 3 games i want to play on the 360, crackdown, doa 4, and gears, gears is going to be on my PC in a matter of weeks, and i could go out right now to my cousin’s house and play crackdown and doa4, it just troubles me that my favourite 360 game (crackdown) is not given any recognition, my cousin has a 360, but he spends all his time on guild wars… maybe the odd game on halo 3 online just so we can laugh at the 12 year old noobs, the one’s that made halo what it is today.

yer, microsoft realised this when they got pwned by sony last gen, im just not sure why sony is going for a new approach this time… they were doig perfectly fine with having an “inferior” machine why must they now go for blu ray and all that! okay, i support blu ray (the guys that make killzone2, uncharted, ff13, mgs4, gt5 and assasin’s creed) love having the massive space. but seriously you guys, you’re worse than the 4chan /v/ trolls.

I think I’ve completely lost interest in this site… the comments were fun the spark is fading…
Wannna know the best part?
*Ahem* Dear SDF writers,
Monty Python is on HD DVD you stupid dumbfucks!
I am tired of having competing next gen movie formats, and despite what anybody thinks about the quality of one versus the other, it’s clear Blu Ray has won the fight in terms of sales. Honestly, I wouldn’t have cared if it was the other way around, but it’s time for HD DVD to concede defeat and let everyone move forward with a single format.
@toastedrebel
Sure they are selling more than HD DVD. Sure you can say they have won. But what have they won really? They arnt selling anywhere Near what DVDs are selling. Infact both HD DVD and Blu-Ray combined can’t sell what DVDs sell. And what about Digital Delivery? By the time the HDTV install base is higher than the analog install base we might very well be downloading HD movies from a set top. And even then I bet most people will still opt for DVDs over the other 2, they look fine on current HDTVs even without a fancy DVD player.
Oh, and to you SDF. . . . Give us a New freakin article already!!!!!!!! Something that actually has something to do with Videogames!!! You can make fun of the Xbox or the Wii if you have to, I dont care! Just something to do with Videogames!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you think that Movie formats will will the ‘console war’ then your stupid, and if it does then Im never going to play videogames again from that point on because that means the industry doesnt know what its doing anymore and doesnt give a shit.
toastedrebel,
So that manes the PS3 should quit too right?

if you’re using DVD as a defense to say that blu ray doesnt matter, i can easily say ps2 is a defense that 360 doesnt matter, it’s got all the guitar hero games, and to be honest, thats enough for me, but add to that all the amazing ratchet and clank, jak and daxter, god of ware, and the new stuff that i particularly havent been bothered in looking at.
The only reason I care about one or the other is price. As long as Blu-Ray is twice as much as HD-DVD, I don’t want anything to do with it. And in terms of sales, HD-DVD is picking up.
Blu-Ray sped ahead at first because people thought that it looked better (1080p vs. 1080i, you tell me the difference). But at that time, only 25% of the population had upgraded to HDTV, and those were people with cash. Now the common wealth (and I use that word losely) is upgrading, they’re going for what’s cheaper.
But wolfwood does have a point. We’ll be downloading movies before long. It’s not using DVD as a defence; it’s using the internet and downloadables as defence.
Come on you cuntpunchios!(The SDF writing staff).
Post up another bullshit story I can tear apart!
I’m breaking for lunch.
@animekid3515
If thats the way you want to read into it the go right ahead, If all the 360 games were released on the first xbox or the PS2 and looked and played near as good then I would have stuck with them. But they arnt. Every Single Movie thats released on Both Blu-Ray and HD DVD is also available on standard DVDs.
Also, I was talking mainly about the people who havent upgraded to HDTV yet or have Just upgraded to HDTV. Most people arnt going to jump out on eather format at the prices that are asked, especially if they waited for a deal on a HDTV. All im getting at is if your tryin to count the winners and losers then DVDs are still way in the lead.
@animekid
Did I say i’m a “360 loving troll” dick? No I didn’t. I really do like the PS brand and have been there since sony launched the PS1. So what I bought a 360, i will end up buying a PS3 in the future when I have the money to. Hell did I mention that I also like Nintendo, or how about the Sega systems that where released?
Ohhh wait a minute your a fanboy I forgot. You just can’t sit down and play a game for a different platform that you don’t own and only give negative opinions about it. Maybe you should try to be a gamer instead of a biased fanboy bitch.
if i was a fanboy, i wouldnt step foot in my cousins house, who has a 360, and i especially wouldnt ASK to play his 360 now would i?
Well you have to suck up to SOMEONE so you can play some decent games.
like… gears… and bioshock, that are on the pc… halo 3! hmmm, oh crap, that game is for 12 year old noobs, let me see, what is a currently released 360 game that is groundbreaking for the system that isnt being out on pc, or already on pc? seriously, i’m asking, coz the best one ive heard of is gears. we got our great game on launch, resistance, and i dont give a shit if you like to bash it because we have it. it’s got better A.I than fucking halo 3 on legendary. crackdown and doa 4 are the only fucking games i ask to play on his 360, and are the only 360 games ill play for a while.
and the greatest 2008 game th ONLY one my 360 fanboy friends talk about, is gears 2, that i havent even seen trailers for, but please, let’s not have a go at being fortune tellers here.
but seriously, guitar hero 3 and rock band prawn them all.
@animekid
True about the Xbox, 360 and PC. Most of the best releases are on both, like the Orange Box, Jericho, and Bioshock (goty?). But it’s the 360 that’s leading this time because of it.
The PC market seems to be dwindling (shrinking, not dying. We’ll always have computer games). It’s the same with the PS3. Many original 360 exclusives have lately shown up there, but MS not suffering for it. The 360 has the best of both worlds.
And no, resistance wasn’t bad, from the reviews (professionals) I’ve read. Like I’ve said a million times, it’s not the consumer’s confidence I’m worried about, it’s Sony’s executives once they tire of SCE’s crap.
I would rather pay 400 bucks for a system thatll play really good PC games than 3000 bucks for a PC that will play really good PC games.
Um, this is great….for my 56-year-old father who doesn’t play games. More games, less movies, please, and I don’t understand how this price drop is considered a “fire sale” when Sony did the exact same thing with the 60 Gig PS3.
I’ll stick to PC, thank you very much. It offers something…something…oh, what is that something? “Games”…that’s right. PC has games on it.
@animekid
Then whats ground breaking for the PS3?
in terms of games that our out.
“Then whats ground breaking for the PS3?”
It’s level of suck.
im just saying the 360 got it’s first groundbreaking game like a year after release, and we got resistance on release, while it wasn’t a heavy shade of grey with annoying camera gimmicks, it was fucking fun, and i still have fun with it from time to time in between races on rr7 and motorstorm and team games on warhawk, and playing online on guitar hero 3.
@six1s
HAH HAHAHA HA HAHAHAHAHAHAH HAHAHA . . . . . . HA!
Good one dude
You know what Animekid, they are just video games. It shouldnt be a big deal what system they are on. When I do get around to buying a PS3 (after the price drops again and they release some good games.) Im going to pick up RR7 and maybe Resistance. I didnt buy a 360 till Gears came out and I didnt buy the first xbox till a year after (i forget what game it was that made me buy it). After buying a PS2 the day it came out and having nothing to play on it (i worked at an EB at the time so i had a chance to try everything) I dont really think im ever giong to buy another system at launch. . . spet Nintendo systems.
I guess my point is if you like it play it. I know quite a few people are saying this same sorta thing, ‘you should enjoy the games themselves, the systems shouldnt matter.’
Now if you will excuse me, Im going to play some Call of Duty 4. cause its awesome.
The PS3 is even starting to lose in Japan…to the 360! MS got the leg up on them this last week.

QFT. I am not worried about support from the consumers. You could labal a piece of dog crap gourment and people would buy it, but if the execs get fed up with SCE then its over.

1. let’s see a link
2. wow! one week! thats so fucking amazing!!!! 360 is so going to win in japan, oh i forgot, ff13 isnt on the 360…
but seriously, i hope all you guys know that i label PC as being the omega of all gaming systems. i actually HOPE crytech doesnt get a ps3 programmer to help port crysis to ps3. coz halo killers deserve to be pc exclusive.
Link? Sure!

And you put ALOT of faith into games that aren’t even close to being released. That worked out SO well for Lair, and Heavenly Sword didn’t it? Oh wait…it DIDN’T. And yeah, it was A week, but it’s a start.
PC isn’t a console though.
@animekid
I agree with you on not porting Crysis over to the PS3 or the 360. I don’t believe it would be the same game on consoles (FarCry). As much I love to play PC games (Civ2 still rocks) the problem is when it’s time to upgrade and we both know that can cost a quite a bit of money. The good thing about consoles are that the hardware never changes with them and dev’s don’t have to try to make there games work on different system configurations. Still the problem for the consoles though is that there outdated within weeks of release when compared to PC’s.
the japanese are probably pissed that MGS4 got delayed
FF13 isnt going to make a big difference
This site is deader than the PS3… apart from the comments
Its been over a freakin week. I wonder if the guy died of a heart attack or choked on a cheese doodle or something. Sense hes pretty much a shut in (all he does is play playstation games and bash the 360 on the internet) maybe nobody has found the body yet.
C’mon SDF, I’m getting bored, give me something to rant about.
I think it’s the writer’s strike.
The stories on this site are about as badly written and contrived as any given hollywood plot.
I saw hire scabs, like the cheezeburger cats!
I can see it now…
“Is it are times for Sony to has quits now plz?”
360 is currently beating PS3 in japan. In your flat face!
Not only that amirite, but the PS3 sales fell! Which made the 360′s gain even more substantial.

other than the fact that the 360 and pc are almost identical except PC’s break down less. the fact it isnt a console is what makes it so good. you cant really bash a console, till you start REALLY gaming on the PC, and to be honest, half the reason im not getting a 360 is because i game on my PC, all the great xbox games come out on PC within a month, so i save some money, the core price whatever it is, plus the wi-fi, plus the hd-dvd drives for when developers realise they need a new disc type. plus $59 a year extra for online, no thanks, i’ll play gears on a higher graphic setting than the 360 couldnt ever hope to achieve.
*could hope to achieve
“all the great xbox games come out on PC within a month”
mass effect
“so i save some money, the core price whatever it is, plus the wi-fi, plus the hd-dvd drives for when developers realise they need a new disc type. plus $59 a year extra for online,”
thats what? 600 tops, you cant get a decent gaming pc for that.
wait, I just realized you want to get a ps3, lol.
“plus the hd-dvd drives for when developers realise they need a new disc type”
yeah, right, see all the reasons why this isnt going to happen, they happen to be the same reasons why blu-ray is a waste.
“yeah, right, see all the reasons why this isnt going to happen, they happen to be the same reasons why blu-ray is a waste.”
oh yes, even though guerilla games, naughty dog, square enix, and konami have all thanked sony for blu ray? z0mg blu ray is t3h gae.
“thats what? 600 tops, you cant get a decent gaming pc for that.” yup, saving $600 that i can spend on computer upgrades to play the same game but better. such as gears of war. i’d rather pay a lot of money for a great powerful machine to play games better than any console could hope to achieve than be able to say “i got myself a console, aw yeah” not really stimulating conversation among my fellow otaku’s. tbe honest, i hope resistance comes to PC. i wanna have a go at some fps player that aren’t super noobs.
hmmm….
$600 for part of a system or
$600 at most for a whole system
the only reason anyone chooses consoles over pc is because console gameing is cheaper.
gorrila is first party
square enix is a jrpg dev and cant get along without fmv(if they used the ingame engine they would be fine and fmv no longer gives a graphical advantage)
konami is totally reliant on the ps3 right now so they would say anything to help it out.
so… nothing to say about naughty dog? seriously, i gotta get me a blu ray burner and see how much memory resistance and other ps3 exclusives use.
“$600 for part of a system or
$600 at most for a whole system

no the reason is, they are noobs that can’t be bothered to research computer upgrades and get their PC to current standards, instead, they complain about how slow their PC is. i have a PC a ps2 a ps1 and a snes, getting a ps3 the minute the 80 gig gets released in aus, i’m sick of having to go to my cousin’s house to play one.
no, Im sure someone has something to say about naughty dog, but I havent played anything of theres sinse the ps1 era.
Uncharted looks like it may be good, I would say will, but at one point I said that about Lair and we all know how that turned out.
That being said, it looks like it is the only ps3 exclusive shaping up to be any good this year.
other than littlebigplanet (unless that’s jan 2008)? and haze? and i kind of enkoyed lair, in the same way i enjoyed jaws unleashed. it was fun for mindless violence, and got boring after about 2 weeks. still kept me interested for longer than DOA4… no matter how much awesome was crammed into that game.
*enjoyed lair
not interested in littlebigplanet and Haze doesnt look to be anything special.
Wow, that line about people who dont PC game being noobs is harsh. Have you researched building a rig recently? I mean when Vista, DX10, and PCI Express hit it made an entire generation of computer pretty much obsolete. I suppose mine is better than most at this point, but its still 6 or 7 years old (mostly) and will not play anything out now. Its maxed at this point and it will cost a boat load to build a new one. Believe me, Im no ‘noob’. Ive done the research. Its to expensive to keep a gaming rig current.
Lemme break it down, you spend between 400 and 600 dollars every 4 years on a console. Then your up to date, and you dont have to worry about upgrading the box you got.
To do the same with a PC you would have to start with a 2000 to 3000 dollar system and replace the Video card every 4 to 6 years. Baring another huge upset in the hardware standards. Then you would have to over haul the system in about 10. and probably start from scratch at 15. Many people (like me) got screwed with PCI Express. Once you have to replace the MoBo your pretty much buying a whole new rig.
Sure the prices could be a bit lower, but I would also bet the system wouldnt make it 10 (much less 15) years before you need to replace the Mobo, Processor, Memory, and Video Card because the hardware standards have totally changed.
I can vouch for the fact that games usually run better on PCs, I can also vouch for the fact they are high upkeep and you have to know what your doing. I cant vouch for the fact that you can get and keep a Gaming rig running on a console gamers budget. I also cant say the enjoyment factor of PC gaming out weighs the cost paid to do so. Unless theres PC only titles that you really Really REALLY want to play then I wouldnt recomend Anyone go down the PC gaming patch.
One more thing, the more I read the more I think that your just a collector animekid. You build and keep a Gaming Rig up to date just so you can brag about it, you want to get the 80gig PS3 to brag about it. Its bad enough your a PS3 fanboy who doesnt have a PS3. But to be a PC Gamer also!?! Its like a double wammie! Your such a douch bag! Talking down to people who cant afford to keep up in the PC Gaming field! “Oh if you cant play games on a computer then your a noob. You cant possably have anything else to spend your money on, like kids or food or a car or house payment. I love playing games on my PC cause theres no noobs ther, all the noobs are playing the console version of this game.” You sir are No gamer, you are a douchbag fanboy and thats that.
*sigh* you really dont understand me at all wolfwood, i keep up with the gaming rig so i can, keep up with the gaming rig, and instead of making some creative criticism on the subject, you constantly call me a douchebag, the whole reason i came here to have a bit of a debate instead of youtube is that the second you say something the youtubers are too dumb to understand they curse and call you gay. and what right do you have for stating the life that i have? oh i know! i’ll just do the same thing!
wolfwood, you are a child just admit it, you brag because you have the 360, you are an immature douchebag
there, i have now stooped to your level of what you call “debating” or arguing, whatever you call it.
quote, animekid3515. In reference to someone saying “he only reason anyone chooses consoles over pc is because console gameing is cheaper.”
“no the reason is, they are noobs that can’t be bothered to research computer upgrades and get their PC to current standards, instead, they complain about how slow their PC is.”
Is that not ‘stooping’ to the same level? I felt you were calling me a noob because I can not afford to keep a gaming rig. I have done the research, I know how much it costs to have a Gaming Rig. Its not as cheap as you think.
And Im sorry I called you a Douchbag fanboy. It wasnt right, I was just frustrated with what you said.
The more arcuate term should have been Smart Ass.
*sigh* i never called you personally a noob wolfwood, i was talking about the real noobs, the one’s that do fit the description i said. if you cant afford it, by all means get consoles, thats what i did back in the playstation days…
bluray sucks end of story, i love how sony fanboys are supporting crap like bluray.
all that s left is for microsoft to take the 360s off store shelves now
