…or not.
The spiderman series sold 225,000+ units on Blu-Ray this week, an extremely impressive showing for the Blu camp. Meanwhile, HD-DOA with its firesale of the unsuccessful A2 Brand, couldn’t even manage to put up a better fight.
Next week is Ratatouille and Cars, which will provide yet another devastating blow to the stop-gap format known as HD-DOA.
that’s very cool. i like blu-ray movies. they load quick, the picture is incredible, and the sound is sharp. they have some nice lineups…though i do wish it had lord of the rings and star wars

Look, this is why Blu-Ray is selling so much. There are a lot of PS3′s sold to people right? So why would they buy a HD DVD player when they already have a Blu-Ray player that plays games too? It makes no sense to go and buy a HD DVD player when you already have a PS3. Thats why Blu-Ray is selling.

Actually, the experts have determined, as far as quality goes, HDDVD & Blu-ray are identical (I’ll find you the source) Blu-ray has a better selection right now because most movie studios went with it initially, but with the system flop and everything, almost every studio, except Sony & Disney, have at least picked HDDVD back up, if not gone exclusive, like Paramount.
You guys are still ignoring that fact that in the holiday season, the cheap HD-DVD player & KMart dropping Blu ray, might give the underdog format a push forward into mass market. Wait untill Black Friday. That day may flip the war as we know it.

Sony CEO Downplays Format War; Sees “Stalemate”
The following are quotes from an appearance by Sony Ceo, Howard Stringer, at the 92nd St Y cultural center in Manhantan NY.
“We were trying to win on the merits, which we were doing for a while, until Paramount changed sides,”
According to published reports, the exec went on to describe a win for either side as mostly a matter of prestige, saying that if HD DVD ultimately won out, it wouldn’t have much effect on Sony other than having to change the harddrive for its PlayStation.
“It doesn’t mean as much as all that,” Stringer is quoted as saying.
The CEO went on to indicate that there was an opportunity of uniting the two camps under one format before he became CEO, and that “I wish I could go back in time, because I heard it was all about saving face.”
Sounds like someone admitting defeat if you ask me. The cheapest HD Dvd player is now $99 while the cheapest blue ray player is $399. Over 90,000 HD Dvd player were sold within a week of Toshiba dropping the price of their A2 player to less than $100. Also Spider Man 3 for blue ray didn’t sell as much as Tranformers for hd dvd. Looks like blu ray may not be saving the PS3 after all. May Solid Snake save your souls.

1. If the original xbox is a “failure” then why is there a Xbox 360 in existence (besides the fact MS has a ton of money)?
2. The PS2 (and any console for that fact) is on it’s way out. You should know that most of the games that come out are pretty much garbage towards the end of a consoles run. There are exceptions that make the console still worth playing though (God of War2, Fire Pro Wrestling, and some others I can’t think of right now).
3. Some people may like the fact that you would be able to download original xbox games. Also the people who want a PS3, Wii, or 360 already made up there mind on which one there going to purchase. One of my friends wants a 360 Elite for christmas and I tried to convince him to get a PS3 (so that I can get a opinion on what games to get and borrow from him when i go get one) but he won’t, he WANTS a 360.

Where to start?
Much like ColdYellow said if the Xbox was a ‘failure’ then why do we have the 360? Want to see failed systems? Look up the 3D0, anything by Atari after the 2600, the CD-I, most Cd-Rom units like the Sega Cd. Those failed out right, did the Xbox fail? Far from it, Halo 1 and 2 made an insane amount of money. Ninja Gaiden was a hit, Knights of the Old Republic is beloved by both RPG and Star Wars fans. Fable was a hit… Did the system ‘fail’ no however when it came out the PS2 had a firm foothold on the market.
And downloading ‘PS1′ games to the PS3 is nothing like downloading Xbox Titles to the 360. We’re talking about games that came out in the 90′s, and really none of Sony’s big hit titles for the PS1 are out on the thing. I checked the list and yeah there are some good games on there, but where’s FF7? Where is MGS? Yeah that’s great that you can play old school PS1 games, will putting Xbox titles onto Xbox Live be a system seller? No, however it gives us users ‘much’ more content along with Marketplace and Arcade.
And as for the PS2, well it’s lasted yes but has it really lasted? The Atari 2600 lasted about the same amount of time. The NES had it’s last game come out I believe in 1993. I could be wrong about that… Then we have the Game Boy, yeah it’s a handheld but dear god look at how long a Black and White system lasted on the market!
I’m surprised that SDF hasn’t shown off the PS3′s superior version of AC yet…oh wait.

In my opinion the PS3 is encountering the same problem the first Xbox had. I just hope that sony doesn’t allow the PS3 to get Dreamcasted (which is the only thing i hold against sony for; The Dreamcast was the shit though) by the wii or 360.
Well the SDF thinks that any multi release will be superior on the PS3. I was pointing out that this is yet another game that they have to bite their tongues on.
alrighty, now i loved ps1 games, and hwile i’d much rather just download .iso’s of them to play on my PC, the feature is there, that’s the point, my point with the system selling this is, beakermike said “if you believe sony will turn around and win, here is some news” so obviously, he implied that this will stop sony from getting their nitro tank filled up. a simple game downloading feature doesnt stop rival companies from having a great system. and, not only is microsoft combating the ps1 download service, they are going to combat HOME, MS is really starting to get scared if you ask me. and regardless of the system the ps2 is still going strong the ps2 is to sony as the wii is to nintendo, they made it, and nowadays they dont do anything for it, just sit back and let the money roll in, props to nintendo for exploiting the need for gameplay in this day of graphics galore.

Microsoft is getting scared?!? What the hell are you talking about?!? I would say sony is launching home because they are scared of how solid Live is and the achievement system. (Trophies is to Avhievements as the Sixaxis is the the Wiimote. . . a total rip off. And if anything they will go the way of sixaxis, under utilized and unused.) (And please for the love of GOD dont bring up the fact that you have to pay for Live. Ive played games on both Live and the PSN, Live is solid and fool proof while the PSN feels more like the server search engines for PC games from 10 years ago. It just doesnt work for me, when you spend half the time looking for a server thats not full (even when it says its full) it really takes the fun out of it.) Anyways, I digress.

Im sorry, I didnt mean to flip out earlier in the post. It just pisses me off when people talk about stuff sony is doing and saying that its making the other companies “scared” or its the “final nail in their coffen” or whatever. For the most part sony has made the PS franchise off of copying everyone else. The PS was supposed to be a Nintendo system after the SNES. sony was working on the CD side of it when Nintendo pulled the plug and went back to cartridges for the 64. sony didnt take that laying down and went ahead and finished it. The controllers have been based off the SNES sense day one. They added analog sticks after Nintendo and Sega. They added rumble after Nintendo. The sixaxis was added after Nintendo showed off their wiimote. And now home, this rips off avatar based chat rooms like There and second life and MS’s achievement system.
Again Im sorry for the rant. I guess Im tryin to say that if you dont have any good games to play youll have to spend your time ‘pretending’ to sit in your house and talking to your friends.

In all honesty I will probably get a PS3 when Little Big Planet comes out, and Home sounds slightly interesting so I suppose Ill have to check it out too when its launched. Im saying they based it off the SNES controller. They changed it when others changed theirs. To show they eather dont have any imagenation or dont care the basic design has gone unchanged sense the PS days. Yes xbox has coppied others, but atleast they improved the design from one console to the next. Its taken 3 consoles for sony to even add analog triggers to theirs, and they still suck. I will give them this, they were the first to add pressure sensitive buttons to their controller. There just never were that many games that used they.
Yeah sure MS copied someone else. They copied the Dreamcast controller. But have changed it over the course of 2 systems, they saw flaws in the design and layout and fixed them. And it has evolved into what i would consider one of the greatest controllers of all time. Nintendo changes theirs everytime. People will say it looks dumb or they cant imagen it working right, yet it does. sony was going to change theirs, but they wanted to copy Nintendos motion system at the last minute so they went back to the old layout.
they follow the rule: “if its not broken dont fix it” motion sensing is a nice touch, and if you dont think any games are using it… high velocity bowling…
i think that original ps3 controller design would have been a pain on peoples fingers, i was glad they changed it back.

Its kinda hard to follow what your saying. But ill try. Yes I have played the PS3, I suppose the question is have you played the 360? Its probably because Im used to the 360 controller but when I tried to play Call of Duty 4 on the PS3 it felt wrong. The button configuration was all jibbered up, trying to use both sticks at the same time was un-natural, and they were extreamly loose. To me these are problems the controller has been plauged with sense the first dual shock. I guess its just cause I like FPS’s more than RPG’s and thats one of the big differences between the two consoles. And Im assuming your saying the 360 has pressure sensitive buttons. If it does I havent noticed. I know the ps2 and ps3 have them . . . but again I havent noticed. They are so rarely implamented that you forget they are even there. I know the GT series uses them but I would rather use an analog trigger for racing games. Back to the point I made earlier, the ones on the PS3 controller suck.
Funny story, my friend who has a PS3 has been a sony fan for. . . well forever. He got the F1 game and had problems adatping to the triggers for gas and break. He was trained to use the face buttons for racing games up to that point.
yes i have played the 360 my cousin has DOA4 PGR(something) crackdown (which is awesome) and halo 3 (shudder) the 360 trigger buttons can be pressure sensitive, with 0 forceback, now thats a lot more sucky, the new L2 and R2 buttons are very hard to get used to. but i managed it, took me a little while, as, again, i leeched off my cousin… but i got used to it and am glad they did it. and seriously, if you prefer FPS over RPG, get a fucking PC seriously, crysis is the FPS of the year, maybe even the game of the year. the fact it brings something new to the genre is enough for me alone (the new multiplayer mode where you need to slowly get better tachnology to finally raid and destroy your enemies base, the nukes, *drool* the nuuuukes, the upgrading armour, max speed and armour pickups etc.) on top of that, it has some of the most amazing graphics i’ve ever seen. AND has one of the best level editors where you build a level from the ground up, not move warthogs around.
i was dreading the time, but crytech are looking for a ps3 programmer… which involves porting games to ps3, this can mean only one thing, crysis is no longer pc exclusive

Yeah Im an Old School PC gamer. The main reason I dont have a rig right now is it costs a freakin arm and a leg to keep one up to date. You dont have to tell me to ‘get a fucking PC already’ cause I know that. Theres a few games in ‘tracking’ right now (Crysis is one of them) for the PC and when theres a decent amount Ill start working on building a new rig. Till then I gotta get my fix from my 360 and I think the controller works well for that type of game.

just one? its going to take more than one to port it over, and if it is going ps3 I would be willing to bet it is going to 360 too. and before you say “well then why arnt they looking for a 360 programmer” well, its because you dont need special programmers to program for the 360.
wait wait, what makes you think they are only hiring one? and while it doesnt take someone “special” to port it to 360, it takes someone… doesnt it? or does it magically just port itself? for one, it needs optimization, and it needs to be set up for XBL. now since there are absolutely no other jobs specific to porting AT ALL, we can only ASSUME it is not coming to 360, and i repeat that ASSUME!!!! since their is 0 sources of proof for it… but if it does come out for 360, dont rub it in my face, just let me admit it like a real man.

and besides… it MAY i repeat MAY just be that they only need 1 more ps3 programmer, maybe the crytech guys just need a helping hand, maybe they already have a team and need one more… don’t know for sure, all i know is… it’s the only job related to porting a game…
well 360 and pc are very alike so they would be better off with the port onto the 360
but they cancelled it and pc exclusive

sony only lets sony online entertainment make games for the pc and thats like 1 of there many game divisions
i no sony copied alot with there controller but i dont think they copied the sixaxis
in 1999 the original warhawk you had to have the motion sencing controllers for the game and the motion sencing was sixaxis
and when sony showd the sixaxis for the ps3 they used warhawk as a demonstration so it obviously had something to do with warhawk in 99
if i was sony i would put something like that in the controler since they lost rumble
and for the ps1 games there was more then just ff and mgs

for the severs the winner is psn because they have dedicated severs and dedicated severs never lag

as for features xbl wins but when HOME comes out the psn will have all xbl features and more….for free

why doesn’t hd-dvd just throw in the towel already? i t would be alot better for movie fans and studios alike…
mhm, blu ray could last quite a while… and it’s not like microsoft are gonna earn any money, it just means that ps3 would have to release dvd-9 or hd-dvd drives for existing ps3′s and put them in new ps3′s, at least if blu ray wins, it’s not gonna cause too much grief, the technology can get better, and 4 layered disc’s getting to 100 gig, i dont see a reason why HD-dvd would become a standard choice for any movie studio… oh i forgot, MS has a ton of bribing money… heh
i wouldnt take an hd-dvd player if they paid me 99$……….or an xbox 360
