Lost Odyssey (360) bombs in Japan?
Well it looks like Xbox 360′s savior of Japan turns out to be a dud. Early reports indicate the much hyped 360 exclusive JRPG, Lost Odyssey, has tanked in Japan with only ~60,000 copies sold so far and only an small boost to 360 hardware sales the same time period (~8,000).
Perhaps MS can make it’s money back porting it to PS3?

But if a J-rpg fails in Japan, I guess that means Final Fantasy’s days are thankfully numbered then.
And I must say that this is a grossly weak story.
why would they make it back just from porting it? I would like to see and actual review cause I think the game looked dumb. BUUUT why would FF be numbered?
3 weeks between stories and this is the best they could do? A game that launched with a 10% attach rate in the console’s weakest market?

At least it’s a new one. We’ve waited a decent month almost for new material to bash SDF about. Jeez, things must be bad for Sony if it took SDF this long to get some good news.
It obviously failed in Japan because of lack of 360 owners. Nothing to do with genre. But that’s not a problem here. I wonder how well the US sales went!
P.S. If there’s one thing the PS3 has proven, it’s that one decent title isn’t going to sell a $400 console.

I’m actually wanting titles like this to fail, cinematic based RPGs has had it’s time in the sun. Time for a new flavor of the decade.
Gamasutra reports that Lost Odyssey is selling well, better than any PS3 game in Japan.

1) Heavenly Sword sold 16,000 copies,
2) Lair sold 25,000
3) Ninja Sigma sold 44,000
4) Folklore sold 16,000
5) Bladestorm (havn’t heard of it but seems to be

What does that tells you? Again, Lost odyssey is doing well.

Problem with that Cold, Killzone 2 being ported to the 360 may not be possible, it counts how much data is used, will it fit on the disk used by the 360? Some PS3 games are larger than size wise, than the storage capacity of the 360′s high end DVD, and it’s assumed more so will come over the next few years. IE even 360 is getting multi disk games on it’s scedule now, some companies wish not to deal with multidisking, though I doubt it would bug me much, since i’ve gone through the multidisk nightmare with PC and PS1.

Yes, 60000 units in a week in a region where the 360 is unpopular is bad. Not to mention that it ranked 6. Where are the PS3 games? Not in the top 20. What about Uncharted you ask. 17000 units. LO sold over 3 times what Uncharted sold.

I compare the highest ranking 360 game to the highest ranking PS3 game.
They were released at the same time in Japan. Your comparison is flawed, showing the games in all regions, even though Lost Odyssey is unreleased elsewhere. I was putting the SDF comments in perspective, and considering the poor sales of 360s in Japan. 60000 units is many 43000 units more than the PS3 heavy hitter.
Oops, Winning Eleven 2008 is higher ranked, although they sold about the same for the week. The comparison holds, but only for the week.
I feel we can all agree that one weeks worth of sales in one region is not a large enough sample to comment on the success of a game. For this purpose, comparing the relative sales of Uncharted and Lost Odyssey is acceptable. It’s a shame that SDF seems to only comment on Japan’s figures, but considering the popularity of the 360 elsewhere, and how they have to group all Sony products together to just beat the Wii and DS separate, I suppose that there is no way they could show other regions with any positive spin.
Oki mate. I thought you ment that Lost Odyssey was outselling Uncharted in Japan (wich it does) as your only comparison. But I’m sure Lost will outsell Uncharted eventually even thou IGN said it looks like a ported PS2 game. Besides Final Fantasy is one of the NO.1 best selling games on Japan so this (look alike but it suck compare to Final Fantasy). game is like 3 CDs, so if you buy this game or the 360 you get the MOST SUCK FOR YOUR BUCK.

The creator of “Final Fantasy” by Hironobu Sakaguchi quit Square-Enix which he wasn’t fired by Sony if that what you’re thinking.
So how you know “LO” sucks, review haven’t been out yet. Blue Dragon was doing well in Japan and they’re going to make the second version.

I agree with you about the whole LO 3 DVD thing, but you’ll have to use a better argument. FF 7&8 are over ten years old. That’s the major argument SDF has used several times is that the size of Blu-ray is necessary because games are too big for normal DVDs.

That’s what I’ve been saying. First off, on a normal TV, all the systems look alike (no more than 480p)
On an HDTV, the 360 is capable of 720p.
Most PS3 games can only make it up to 720p as well. Some SCE games have 1080p, but not many.
The problem is many HDTV’s aren’t compatible with 720p. The 360 will bump it up to 1080p at that point, but the PS3 will dumb it back down to 480p.

But really, it shouldn’t bother many of us to much. If you play the game for 15-30 hours and then switch the dvd, I don’t think that’s a huge problem. I don’t have a problem losing 5 calories just by switching movies.
I suppose its better than uncharted bombing everywhere. It was outsold by WII FIT.
The bets that the ps3 has to offer gets beaten by a bathroom scale and some minigames.

I too was hoping for the 14/10 Uncharted review. I was disappointed with a just as weak article. Why no 2/10 Super Mario Galaxy review either? Because you don’t like to bash Wii? Thought so.

Where’s the 11/10 Uncharted review, the 9/10 review for Unreal Tournament 3 for PS3 claiming that the SIXAXIS controls, KB&M Support, Mod Support, and Superior Hardware of the PS3 make it infinitely better than the 360′s later port? Come on SDF, bring something better than this!

Yea FF 7,8,9 have multiple CDs but that was PS1 games not next get games, On the interview with the producer he told the press that it would only take one blue ray movie to put the 360 game and did you know that the Orange box all 5 games come on 1 blue ray?.

That really does leave me scratching my head why Sony went with that much video memory.
Then again MS went with 512 megs of “shared” RAM which I thought was a mistake as well.
