Mario Galaxy Review: 1/10

Never before have I seen a title of such great importance continue to fall from grace with each successive installment. We all have glowing memories of playing Mario 64 at a Toys R’ Us kiosk back when the revolutionary title released alongside the Nintendo 64 in ’96, but like Super Mario Sunshine before it, Mario Galaxy represents a significant regression for the franchise.
While other publications are being handsomely rewarded for their stellar reviews of Mario Galaxy courtesy of Iwata himself, Sony Defense Force is not paid or endorsed by any commercial interests. This is the only website where you will find genuine, unadulterated impressions of the year’s most hyped titles. Unfortunately, Mario Galaxy is marred with numerous gameplay decisions that ultimately have me questioning what Nintendo was doing for the years they spent developing the title.
One of the primary faults of the game deals with the simplistic gameplay. Mario Galaxy’s formula for game design can be summed up as follows:
1. Randomly place normal items (apples, jars, bugs) in outer space.
2. Have mario waggle his way from each small planetoid by either collecting one of five items, destroying all the enemies on the planet, or finding a way to unlock a star pad.
3. Eventually you will manage to waggle your way to the end planet, where you will have to perform some simplistic task in order to attain a star.
Repeat this process 120 times, and you have Mario Galaxy summed up quite well. While Mario 64 boasted of large, expansive environments, Galaxy mainly has Mario traversing the smallest land masses imaginable in a very linear fashion. After the first few stars, the average player will get tired of this repeated gameplay process. It must be noted that the game appears to be limited by last-gen hardware. The Wii/Gamecube just simply isn’t capable of rendering large, open environments in HD. Perhaps if Mario Galaxy were on the PS3, they’d be able to create a truly next-gen mario because Galaxy looks marginally upgraded from 64 which was released over 11 years ago.
Another flaw is that the combat mechanics are also in desperate need of revision. While games like Uncharted are making the combat an engaging experience, Mario Galaxy’s combat involves jumping on enemies heads or waggling your waggle-stick for a waggle-attack. Perhaps this would work well if the core gameplay itself was challenging or difficult; but it’s not. The game appears to be designed for a 4 year old. It’s easier than the original Mario on the NES.
Overall, to say Mario Galaxy is a disaster is an understatement. If you’re an easily amused child with a hard-on for nostalgia, pick up Mario Galaxy. Otherwise, if you’re an intelligent gamer that is interested in a real videogame experience, pick up a Playstation 3 and have a turn at Uncharted, easily this year’s best.

Sony Defence Force: 1/10
You Lose
“Yes, everything is better on the PS3 including your mom.” This is the first Wii game they reviewed and it was pretty funny.
Here is the rank of SMG on gamerankings
http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/simpleratings.asp?rankings=y
Really pathetic SDF seriously.
i just want to thank you sdf for the review. it is clearly unbiased. ive been reading the site, hoping for good updates and scoop, but to no avail, this review renews my faith in you. i was thinking of getting a wii but then you reminded me i wasnt 12. a 360 was on the table, but you made me realize m$ is evil. xbots am cry. keep up teh good werk sdf!!1
Stupid The wii just suck, I know I have one!. and I play REV4 on it I haven’t play it again, low quality graphics and the control make your hand hurt after a while. Really the wii is only good for a minute them you don’t like it anymore and the Library of games suck too only like 2 or 3 good games on it.
PS3UP,
Hey I have a PS3, it’s got pretty graphics but I never play it!
See? I can lie my ass off too!
As for the review, HAHAHAHAHAHA!
That was the funniest damned review ever!
Especially the “1. Randomly place normal items (apples, jars, bugs) in outer space.”
That one is PRICELESS!
But This?
“Otherwise, if you’re a straight male that is interested in a real videogame experience, pick up a Playstation 3 and have a turn at Uncharted, easily this year’s best.”
LOL! Yeah you can watch your Man Raider with his realistic bulgin’muscles.
Now this is how easy it is write a game review of a game you’ve never played.
To call Uncharted a Tomb Raider clone would be a slap in the face of the buxom Lara Croft.
Speaking of Tomb Raider, the mechanics were ripped right out of the original PS1 game. Jumping, shooting, puzzles, all done with the presses of buttons. It’s all been done before, and with greater success.
As far as the length, there is good news! This turd is short! And thanks to Blu-ray it’s a short turd with uncompressed sound…that’s something!
Visually it’s just another title where the Devs tried to hide boring and derivative gameplay with pretty graphics.
The dead last PS3 needs good games to make it’s defeat at least graceful, but this game like all of the other “AAA” Ps3 titles just falls short.
0/10
“Otherwise, if you’re a straight male that is interested in a real videogame experience, pick up a Playstation 3 and have a turn at Uncharted, easily this year’s best.”
What if you’re female? Or bisexual? Or into donkeys? Geez SDF, you gotta cover all bases or no one will take you seriously.
Props for nintys success this gen but my god mother brought a wii over to the house with Zelda, Sonic and Ninja Turtles. I was bored out my mind, i dont have any next gen system so i thought i would be blown away, but that whole “Novelty” excuse holds some credibility, go over to wiichat.com others feel the same way, I know imma get flamed for my statements but fuck it.
Uh OH! Mass Effect 2 and 3 are gonna suck!

^^good thing im gettin a 360 for xmas for it to suck on
…
Yay Wii bashing! I knew you existed!
As to be expected, nintendrones pick out semantics and instead of giving logical, concise rebuttals to the negative points raised (which in my opinion are 100% true), choose to attack PS3 games with no good reason to other than they are butthurt. Anyone that has played Uncharted would know that it starts off tomb-raiderish, with the puzzling and the shooting etc. but then loses the puzzling and devolves into a straight shooter. Not that it’s bad, just that it loses the Tomb Raider connections and turns into a straight shooter.
Seriously, platformer’s are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO out of date, christ. They were good in the 90′s, when that was all the hardware could handle (see NES, SNES etc.), and SM64 was good, seeing as it was a free roaming platformer. But Galaxy? It’s the 2-dimensional, linear gameplay of SMB for the NES, coupled with 3d graphics. Were this a Sony or M$ exclusive, with random, soulless characters such as Bob the Jumping guy and Phil, Bob the Jumping guy’s homosexual brother you nintendrones wouldn’t even take a second glance before laughing until you pass out; that’s how much of a joke that game would be. Unless you’re 5 of course.
In summary, you’re all idiots who like their WAGGLAN GAEMZ only cause you love smothering yourself with Nintendo’s excrament, whatever it may be. Get a brain morans. Small things amuse VERY SMALL NINTENDRONE MINDS.
This is the funniest thing I’ve seen on SDF in a long time. The ending was great. If you play Mario Galaxy U R gayzorz. Real men dump $600 dollars into a failing system. Where did they get that picture. Those Japanese girls look like they’re trapped in the House of 1000 Corpses. If you’ll excuse me, I have to go jack-off to Mario Galaxy.
Finally! Some Nintendo bashing. It had to be done somehow, since the latest NPD figures couldn’t be favourably manipulated.
Personally, I’m still waiting for the SDF report on the November NPD numbers… they can’t exactly pull the “Sony Family” trick this time.
So, I guess the reviewers that are paid for favorable reviews also helped contribute to the sales of “Galaxy” and “Uncharted” in November…
Super Mario Galaxy – 1.12 million
Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune – “failed to chart”
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20071214-november-game-sales-up-52-vs-2006-nintendo-rules-the-roost.html
Oh yeah…that’s right… By the way, “Galaxy” is awesome…
Well they have to bash Nintendo now!
They’ve ran out of things on 360 to bash.
From I hear 360 arcade is more reliable then previous models. -can’t use red ring.
360 is getting more, and better rpgs.
360′s got GOTY candidates.
Saying, “Well 360 is doing bad in Japan!” no longer gets a rise out of people.
“I was bored out my mind, i dont have any next gen system so i thought i would be blown away, but that whole “Novelty†excuse holds some credibility, go over to wiichat.com others feel the same way, I know imma get flamed for my statements but fuck it.”
Basing a system’s library off three games, a good descisions does not make.
I just want to point out that only one PS3 only title was nominated for anything other than Best PS3 game this year at the VGA’s, and it wasn’t Uncharted. Best game of the year BIOSHOCK!!! Didn’t they give it like a 2/10? As for SM Galaxy yeah it’s a Mario game, its always repetitive. They story was good like it always is with Mario and the game play was very fun. Funny how everyone else gives this game a 5/5 or a 10/10.
“genuine, unadulterated impressions of the year’s most hyped titles”
holy crap… i nearly woke up my fucking neighbors from my laughter there.
i miss that phrase
“Perhaps if (insert game here) were on the PS3″
kinda just shows that you want it but don’t like saying
@sixis
uncharted is a good game, nothing new but still fun
only drawback is the god awful hand to hand combat
@PS3UP
i love my wii
it actually has more AAA exclusives on it than the ps3
so fuck knows what your on about when you say
“the Library of games suck”
its a bit petty
also SDF stick to crap like this, much more fun to read
Wow, I’m surprised that they even did a review on Super Mario Galaxies, but a vaguely extensive one? This is like the longest article in the past year! If I recall correctly, this got rated lower than Halo 3 right? Too bad it’s the highest rated game of all time on gamerankings.
Man, I had no idea how corrupt the entire reviewing industry has become! Thanks to our messiah, SDF, we now have a beacon of truth in a bribe-guided world.
Rebuttal: I love how they praised Mario 64, then lambasted Galaxy for its combat system, which was all and more than what 64 had. And why did they choose THAT picture for this? Weren’t the straight guys supposed to go for uncharted? Furthermore, the NES mario was quite hard at many points. Any more contradictions anyone would like to add?
Hang on there, SDF. Your review has a few spelling and grammatical errors.
“Never before have I seen a website of such great importance continue to fall from grace with each successive review. We all have glowing memories of reading their Bioshock review back when the Sony Defense Force was still funny, but like the Halo 3 and Lair reviews before it, Mario Galaxy’s review represents a significant regression for the Satirical stylings of the SDF.
While other websites are posting stellar reviews of Mario Galaxy, Sony Defense Force is not paid or endorsed by any commercial interests, and will take every chance to bitch and whine about having not been on any publisher’s reviewer list. This is the only website where you will find genuine, unadulterated fanboyism concerning the year’s most hyped titles. Unfortunately, Mario Galaxy is marred with numerous gameplay advances that ultimately have me questioning what the SDF was doing for the weeks they spent in silence, trying to develop something to whine about.
One of the primary faults of the game review deals with the simplistic flaming. SDF’s formula for game review can be summed up as follows:
1. Randomly place nods to PS3 hardware items (Cell processor, Blu-ray, PSN)
2. Have the reviewer waggle his way from each small nitpick to the next by either downplaying the gameplay, deliberately annoying every gamer with a brain on the planet, or finding a way to poke fun at the designer.
3. Eventually you will manage to waggle your way to the end of the review, where you will have to read some nonsensical closing comment with an entirely unrealistic score that Sonic Rivals 2 isn’t worthy of.
Repeat this process 257 times, and you have the SDF summed up quite well. While places like 1UP, IGN, Gamestop, and other such credible websites boasted of ingenious gameplay mechanics, SDF mainly has pegged Mario as traversing the smallest land masses imaginable in a very linear fashion, which is very far from the truth. After the first few sentinces, the average reader will get tired of this repeated review process. It must be noted that the site appears to be limited by brain-dead reviewers. The PS3 just simply isn’t capable of rendering intelligent life in HD. Perhaps if the SDF were on the 360, they’d be able to create a truly next-gen review because the defense force looks marginally upgraded from a mindless zombie that has been left to decay during the exclusives drought since the console’s release.
Another flaw is that the writers’ educations are in desperate need of revision. While games like Uncharted are making the combat into an absolute farce, Mario Galaxy’s combat involves a lot of traditional gameplay elements that gamers have come to expect and enjoy. Perhaps this would be depicted properly in SDF’s review if the core mentality itself hadn’t been proved to be mentally challenged; but it has. The site appears to be designed for a 4 year old.
Overall, to say Sony Defense Force is a disaster is an understatement. If you’re an easily amused child with a hard-on for black blobby commercials, pick up a PS3. Otherwise, if you’re an intelligent gamer that is interested in a real gaming experience, pick up an Xbox 360 or Wii and have a turn at Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Blue Dragon, Super Mario Galaxy, or Metroid Prime 3, easily some of this year’s best.”
There, fixed. ^_^
Perhaps if Mario Galaxy were on the PS3,
Perhaps if Mario Galaxy were on the PS3,
Perhaps if Mario Galaxy were on the PS3,
Perhaps if Mario Galaxy were on the PS3,
Perhaps if Mario Galaxy were on the PS3,
Perhaps if Mario Galaxy were on the PS3,
Perhaps if Mario Galaxy were on the PS3,
Wow, the writers strike must have hit you guys HARD!
You should hire Dahak there, thats some quality wordsmithing.
You guys are awesome trolls, keep up the good work.
“Galaxy looks marginally upgraded from 64 which was released over 11 years ago.”
I am pretty impressed. You are giving more ridiculous statements than Sony PR. Awesome. Keep up the good work. Sony and the PS3 really benefit from your work.
Ah, thats quite a bit better Dahak.
What waggle? Mario Galaxy has, by far, the least amount of movement of any Wii game yet.
@PS3UP
“Stupid The wii just suck, I know I have one!. and I play REV4 on it I haven’t play it again, low quality graphics and the control make your hand hurt after a while. Really the wii is only good for a minute them you don’t like it anymore and the Library of games suck too only like 2 or 3 good games on it.”
Yeah, I know! And the PS3 has Devil May Cr….oh sorry. Well it has Unreal Tourna….oh yeah. But it has Assassin’s Cree….uhhh. Well you got Resistance I guess….
@PS3UP
“Stupid The wii just suck, I know I have one!. and I play REV4 on it I haven’t play it again, low quality graphics and the control make your hand hurt after a while. Really the wii is only good for a minute them you don’t like it anymore and the Library of games suck too only like 2 or 3 good games on it.â€
You make my head hurt. Can’t you even use proper grammer for a change? Here is the right way to make you sound even remotely intelligent.
“Stupid. The Wii just sucks. I know; I have one!. I have played RE4 on it, and I haven’t played it since. It has low quality graphics and the controls make your hands hurt after a while. Really the Wii is only good for a minute or two. Then you won’t like it anymore; and the library of games suck. There is only like 2 or 3 good games on it.”
Lulz.
You finally reviewed it. I love how you can compare a platformer to a shooter without even trying to make sence. Why put it aganst Uncharted, when Ratchet & Clank is sitting right there?
Really, this review is funny, but you’ve gotta at least make it sound like you’ve played the game. It just sounds liek you watched a few videos of gameplay, then reviewed.
This review gets a 2/5.
@Panda
“Really, this review is funny, but you’ve gotta at least make it sound like you’ve played the game. It just sounds like you watched a few videos of gameplay, then reviewed.
This review gets a 2/5.”
I think you are behind times. THATS WHAT THEY DO FOR ALL THE REVIEWS! Or they steal reviews from other websites via Gamespots Ratchet and Clank review. I am also beginning to think they don’t have a PS3 either….
At last it has some company!

@ six1s
In Reply to your comments about Drake’s Fortune… are you a nut? Drake’s Fortune is perhaps one of the most fun games i’ve played in nearly a decade for any console system, and that is alot coming from me, as i’ve only liked perhaps a dozen games in the past 10 years so much so to stand up for them. Drake’s Fortune is a well balanced combination of multipal game play styles, so much so it just isn’t one kind of game, slapped into 1, ya it isn’t perfect, ya it isn’t original as in not the first cover system game, not the first leep of faith game, but Yes it is the first of it’s kind.
The game looks great, has great in game diolog, and story telling, music is amazing, gameplay is quiet fun, combat is pretty fun as well though repeditive at times, but you get thrown into a few loops at moments that catch you by suprise, and the first time through on this game, can be a nightmare, it isn’t a walk through the park.
This game was designed to feel like you’re in a movie, and it was done well, not putting too much into lenght, and near perfect blend between player interaction, cut scenes, and auto camera angles.
It is hard to really say something bad about the game other than over all length of the game.
It seems the better the game the lower the score it receives. And vice-versa. You people seem to throw yourselves into a rage when SDF says something dumb that obviously Is the opposite of what you believe. Just take a step back, take a deep breath, and remember: SDF is a joke website. They want you to laugh. Stop whining, and think what a gift you have! A fountain of laughter! Do you really believe Super Mario Galaxy is 1/10?! Of course not! If you’ve played it more than 10 minutes, you know this. Its all about the laughs. Just laugh and try not to take it so damn seriously.
Lumina,
Learn to read the WHOLE post next time.
For fuck’s sake.
I shouldn’t have to copy and paste this.
My post started with, and I quote…
“Now this is how easy it is write a game review of a game you’ve never played.”
How you missed the FIRST FUCKING LINE of the post, baffles me.
This review is a fake. This website is made by sony fans so obviosly they are going to rate it badly. The wii is outselling the ps3 by far, and the DS is kicking PSP ass. Galaxy is outselling every sony game. Also, all other sites rate this game nearly perfect, so this review is wrong
What I don’t get is that they think when a game sells, it means that it’s a good game. Yet when the Wii and DS are outselling everything, they say it’s crap. Biased hypocritical bastards.
I dont know where they got that pic but I bet those girls are reacting to someone who just told them they have to give up the Nintendo stuff and get ready to sit down and play the PS3.
No I’m fairly sure the words “tentacles” and “panty vending machine” were used.
im surprised SDF hasnt jumped on xbox360fanboy’s mass effect “coming to ps3″ rumour.
I’m fairly certain the the domain names owner was traced and found to be a 360 fanboy, do a search on digg about it…
I’m fairly certain the ladies in the photo were told you’re going to appear on the SDF website as it was taken, I’d react the same way tbh.
Dahak that was a great envisioning of the review… Do you blog? where?
This is the only website where you will find genuine, unadulterated impressions [with only the smallest hint of fanboy-ism] of the year’s most hyped titles.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. *phew* oh man, that’s a good one.
@lumina: mass effect.
get the fuck out.
BOOO! This site is fucking dead.
So the only site which has given this game such a low score is the Sony Fanboy Force. What a surprise.
Guess the writers strike hit you pretty hard SDF?
[...] Force has some pretty hilarious posts where they basically destroy anything not Sony related. Their review of Super Mario Galaxy is quite funny: Mario Galaxy Review: [...]
Damn….this is f’in HILARIOUS!!!
Also..http://youfail.org/
Damn….this is f’in HILARIOUS!!!
@ animekid3515
Great show of maturity there. I don’t even have to say much about it, it’s as obvious with your maturity level as this review was with it’s evidence of being pure garbage.
Couldn’t help but notice that the November NPD numbers are not mentioned here yet. Can’t imagine why. :p
NOW THIS IS MORE LIKE IT!!!
Finally. Some Wii-bashing. Truthfully, I was getting tired of the 0/10 360 reviews. I think it may have been better, as we were hoping for, if SDF compared 15/10 PS3 port of a zero ranking 360 game, but they never did.
I think SDF needs to give Nintendo some publicity. It’s like watching a celebrity roast. Insult comics in honor of a history maker. Game Informer did a “Sacred Cow BBQ” last year, where they roasted the greatest games of all time. They said was annual. But I’ve yet to see the one for this year.
I guess SDF is the next best thing, but only when they roast games we like. Usually, they do 360 games I never hear of till SDF mentions them. I need some Wii BBQ.
But I guess SDF usually avoids Nintendo games because they’re so hard to find flaws in?
“Sony Defense Force is not paid or endorsed by any commercial interests.”
I wonder why.
I do have to feel sorry for the writers right now. The ones that aren’t on strike are getting fired (R.I.P. Jeff Gerstmann) for giving bad PS3 reviews. It’s sad how the wall between marketing and journalism has completely collapsed.
Seriously, platformer’s are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO out of date, christ. They were good in the 90’s, when that was all the hardware could handle.
———————————————-
If platformers are too old for today, why the fuck did you PStools praise Ratchet and Clank Future Tools of Destruction?
Jesus Christ, sometimes I wonder how idiotic you people can get.
Well the reason they don’t get paid is because, lying costs money…but STUPIDITY is free,
According to your earlier review, Lair is this generation’s Mario 64. But Mario Galaxy is supposedly awful… which is based on Mario 64, which is by association awful since not much has changed, which means that Lair is horrible…So…Confusing!!
Geez SDF, at least keep your facts straight…
And Mario Galaxy rocks.
@
all you bitches
Ok i do have a Wii and I have Resident Evil 4,Metroid,Zelda, Resident Evil unbrella cronicles,and the game that comes with it, wii sports, and thats it. other them the New Mario that came out, there is nothing else good on it maybe the Nights game that is coming out. and No the graphis do suck after playing Uncharted, and now the Half life game it make the wii suck more (but i like the REV unbrella cronicles is good)
I find your lack of taste disturbing.
Lets see the PS3 do THIS
http://kotaku.com/336960/another-brilliant-johnny-lee-wii-vid
Wait, you’ve played all those Wii exclusives? Wow, that is few. Shame you don’t have the massive range of exclusives like Motorstorm, Resistance, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Heavenly Sword and, um, Lair. I pity those poor Wii people – they have exclusive titles that are generally thought to be good. Poor, poor bastards.
What do I know? I thought Bioshock wasn’t a shit game.
http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/12/22/sony-refuses-to-let-oxm-review-bravia-hdtv/
“Repeat this process 120 times, and you have Mario Galaxy summed up quite well.”
For giving the game 1/10; Hans must have played through the entire game. If SMG sucks that bad then ,why bother playing through it in the first place? He must have enjoyed it quite a bit.
@ ColdYellow
Or maybe he thinks he finished it? I know the people who reviewed Gundam Crossfire ont he PS3 some of the reviewers got tons of things wrong because they didn’t take the time to play the game correctly, heck doubt any of them know about all the missions that show up on the last month of the war, long after the last mission shows up, ie bonus missions things you don’t have to play to beat the game.
@PS3up
You have a Wii? Then what’s your problem? If you don’t like it, get rid of it. There’s plenty of people who would pay big bucks to get one.
You do have a nice selection there, but you’re also forgetting the Wii also has Warioware, Rabbids 1&2, Zak & Wiki, Tomb Raider: Anniversary, Guitar Hero 3, and the up-coming Smash Bros, Okami, and Bully. Not to mention old classics, since the Wii is now the only backward compatible system out there.
And the list goes on, if you want to try those out. The problem is, you have to WANT to try those out. Keep in mind, graphics aren’t everything since less than half the population has even upgraded to HDTV yet.
If you don’t want to be a Wii player, get rid of it. If you want to have more to check out, there’s plenty of options we can give you if you ask nicely.
@ Samsonylover
Personally, I pity you. I’m sorry you limited your options with the PS3. Even with a few exclusives, your pockets must be empty after the price you had to pay. Better be working two jobs to get that second game.
You have to remember that with the Wii’s controls, every game is a unique experience (as long as it’s done right) So, besides games like GH3 and DDR that use common accessories, every Wii game is exclusive.
@Lumina
Wasn’t Gundam Crossfire also one of the biggest piles of crap (and still is) for the PS3?
I do agree that reviewers can play the game incorrectly (Assassins Creed is a example), but on the other hand if the game is crap all around then it doesn’t matter how it’s played (correctly or incorrectly). Also if the game is crap then why would you want to finish it in the first place? Maybe for the story (if it’s any good), hoping that the gameplay get’s better, or just gotta complete the game in question.
BTW ain’t most anime inspired games usually turn out to be crap anyway? But there is exceptions too (Naruto, DBZ, and some of the Avatar games).
Lord Jebus…we must find someone who can hack this site and elimnate it.
BTW
Mario Galaxy: 10/10
Halo 3(or supposedly Halo 2.5): 10/10
Mass Effect: 10/10
SDF, Sony and PS3: 0.1/10
Wii, Nintendo: 10/10
Microsoft, Xbox 360: 10/10
Why do the girls in the photo look like SDF is holding them at gunpoint?
I have yet to finish SMG, and I’ve got several hours already under Mario’s belt, so the length is certainly a plus.
The game is simple and the controls are easy to use. The challenge in a game should never be figuring out the buttons (except GH, DDR, and such).
Now, judging by the stars on the center area, I’m far from finished, so this is just my first impressions. I need to get deeper into the game before I give an official review.
It’s fun; the style of the worlds sets it up similar to Mario 64, with similar impact. But I’m not happy with how little control I have over the camera. Sometimes, it’s hard to navigate due to lack of vision. Total 3D gameplay, running all over these round planets, and I’m operating with a 2D, top down camera. Other than that, so far, the gameplay’s classic and typical Mario.
Once again, I’m far from finished, so nothings final right now. But my present opinion: SMG is fun, but far from GOTY.
Well GOTY isn’t up to you now is it?
To all the people who use the ps3 has no games or exclusives 2008 is its year to shine, over 150 exclusives http://ps3forums.com/showthread.php?t=86124
im still gettin a 360 for xmas tho
Erm… UHATEME, where did you learn math at? Last I checked, 92 + 24 doesn’t equal 150 titles… unless you’re counting PSN releases we’ve all come to know and love like Super Rub-a-Dub… Tell me honestly, did you actually read that list? Does Ninja Gaiden Sigma even count as an exclusive? Jeez, goes to show just what kind of creative genius we’re working with here.
Oh and don’t worry about SamSonyLover, his mom probably got him those games because his allowance couldn’t pay for them. I mean seriously, Who have you seen that starts listing exclusives, and actually has enough trouble trying to find them that he ends up using Heavenly Sword and Lair as his examples? Hmm?
Oh, and my final gripe, I should start a mass English course for Gamers. For God’s sake, people! punctuation, capitalization, proper sentence structure, grammar usage, and half decent spelling come in handy when expressing yourself! Even SDF can do a half decent job of shoddy writing!
Is it just me or is Assassins Creed geared toward females more than males?
and out of those ps3 “exclusive” about 5 are for 360 too, and most ive never heard of.
UHATEME,
Noone says “Ps3 has NO games.”, that’s just fucking stupid. Your “To those” comment is in moot.
But alot of those 150 games are stuff like “Unnannounced derpaderpbachooeychup by Namco”.
Also, the “2008 is gonna be PS3′s year.” is just a rerun of “2007 is gonna be PS3′s year.”, I saw that one already!
The fact is that Microsoft and Nintendo aren’t going to let Sony just HAVE 2008. It’s not like they don’t have anything planned.
This time last year, PS3 fanboys were convinced that 2007 was gonna be te year Sony destroyed everyone else…yeah that happened. I’m from Missouri, SHOW me!
Most of those PS3 exclusives will probably be ported over to the 360 sooner or later.
Keep up the good work SDF, the wii sucks balls and no Im no a hater, I have the Wii.
LiquidSnake,
Yes you are.
The Wii doesn’t suck balls.
The hardware is solid, works the way it should.
It’s good some good games.
You’re opinion != fact.
Therefore YOU think it sucks balls.
But that doesn’t make it true, no matter how many magical wishing boobies you rub.
And the award for the best website for 2007 goes to………..SONY DEFENCE FORCE!!!! wooooo chaaaaahaaaaaa woooo000000 yeaaaaa
Some peeps take this site a wii bit to seriously me thinks. What, there’s a war going on in the Middle East? dude! I don’t care, Sony is on the brink, we need to recoup and gather resources to fight off the Wii and the 360! hurry! equip your dual shocks now! load your BD drives! and fight the power!
Look! the army of 360′s is over heating, they’re exhausted but they are still going strong! Their units are faltering but are quickly mended, we have to destroy their repair centres!
The Wii’s are dominating, coming from every direction, (why are they waving at me? or what are they waving at me?, stop that!) cheap and on mass, there’s to many, we can’t maintain our stronghold! There’s to many!!! But wait! I see a weakness, the units are not being loaded a second time, it seems they get one use and then they sit down and collect dust, I fear those ones, they may come back, there’s so many! Aghhhh
SENDING IN REINFORCMENTS…Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells swing and jingle bells ring, Snowing and blowing up bushels of fun, Now the jingle hop has begun…
Well, just got a Wii today for Christmas. This article just told me which game I should get for it after I complete Super Paper Mario.
To other Wii owners: Is it just me, or does it seem as if the Wii was designed to easily be put into a desktop comp? I believe I heard somewhere that is WAS compatible…
Well six1s when these forums use to be up everyone would say the games sucked, and from that list coming it doesnt look like they will for long, devs are starting to get the hang of the cell.
None xbox 360 owners seem to like the ps3 its on the list for “29 Exceptional Products for Tech Lovers”
http://tech.msn.com/products/slideshow.aspx?cp-documentid=5812680&imageindex=23
Yeah because some random list = success right?
UHATEME: I think it’s great that the PS3 is on a list of must-haves for tech lovers, but when will it make a list of must-have video game consoles?
Look at software sales for PS3. COD4 on the 360 sold over 1.5 mil, but the PS3 version sold less than 500,000 copies. So the real question is; are people buying the PS3 for a cheap blu-ray player or for videogames?
The Wii is encountering the same problem as well; a ton of systems are getting bought up, but nobody is buying software.

Most likely blu ray player, thats probally why it was on the tech list.
And six1s, I dont know why i bother with you, anything with sonys name on it is fail in your mind.
No, just the PS3, and PSP.
Yo, moderate my post mofo.
that link was super UNHATEME. notice how the xbots became very jealous all of a sudden and started using lame excuses like they have no titles yet and stuff. well just because a game doesnt have a title it doesnt mean its not real it just means that its been confirmed but the developers havnt come up with a name yet. and even the most ignorant of xbots have to admit that the ps3 has an incredible line up of exclusives in 2008/2009 and its waaaaay better than shitbox’s line up whose only good games are ninja gaiden 2 (if it doesnt do a DMC and go multiplatform) and possibly too human (you really think halo wars is going to be good pah) oh and maybe huxley- the whole mmofps thing is cool. so while you xbots may cuss and diss the ps3 il be off polishing up ff13, mgs4, killzone 2, haze, eight days, GOW 3, la noire, getaway 3, resistance 2 and oh so many more- good luck with generic zombie shooter shit like left 4 dead and uninspired horror wannabes like alan wake
You guys are falling behind in your updates. It took you like, what, two weeks to come up with THIS? I could have written something funnier than that in about an hour. Come on guys, step up your game!
Merry Christmas all hopefully i get a 360 today!!!:)
“Most likely blu ray player, thats probally why it was on the tech list.”
and that is part of the reason that sony is have trouble getting third party exclusives.
@Xeacons
I think you meant to comment at someone else when you commented at me.
I don’t see how your comment is really relevant to me.
Anyway, I played Uncharted a lot last night. I’d say it’s Tomb Raider with a cover system. Oh, and the collision detection isn’t absolute shit. The power of PS3, eh? The graphics are fairly overrated and not on par with something like Gears Of War. Best thing about this game is that the guy gets wet after he goes swimming.
six1s? You’re from Missouri? Me too! What city are you from?
Mountain View.
@SoSolidSnake
That’s a joke. Most of those games aren’t even confirmed to be released in the time slot you mentioned. If so, they’re not very solidly placed. As soon as you used the word “Xbot” I knew you had nothing of value to say.
Same as me saying: Hey, Gaystation lovers, guess what ridiculously biased comment I’ve got to say? I leave out a lot of information and tell people things that I can’t possibly know. Like the fact you’re all nervous of Bill gates beating you up. That’s what you’re scared of, yea!
“Most likely blu ray player, thats probally why it was on the tech list.â€

100th comment!! YAY!!!
Wait, “games like Uncharted are making combat an engaging experience”? Are you shitting me? It’s got a watered down Gears Of War shooting system and to fight you press square repeatedly, or square then triangle then square. How is that engaging? it barely requires any sort of strategy. The jack of a few trades, the master of none.
@SamSonyLover
There are more combos than just Square Square Square, in fact there are shoot shoot then charge melee attacks where you do in air kicks, melee button shoot melee button combos, or melee shoot shoot melee. Behind attacks where you jump on the persons back grabing head torso, most combos have more than one animation so it’s not the same boring attack every time you do it as well. Really most reviewers never got into doing the melee stuff so most people don’t know how many melee combos there were, but still it beats the heck out of run up and press 1 melee button and rifle but hits enemy boom dead. It’s more lively.
You feel a sence of joy when two shotgun guys on hard mode who can kill you in 1-2 hits at point blank range jump down behindyou so close you don’t have time to aim and shoot, doing two combos is quite exciting when you’re getting a rush.
@SamSonyLover
PS Gears of War isn’t the only cover system game, they’ve been around since the N64 you know. Heck many games copied the cover system thing since Geras of War just look at Ghost Recond Advanced Warfighters 2, GRAW2 did an awful job with cover, it’s more annoying on that game than fun…
@Lumina
theres a reason no one bothered with the melee crap.
Guns>Melee every time
I just noticed this
“Behind attacks where you jump on the persons back grabing head torso”
Head torso? that doesnt mean anything.
also, you are correct about there being cover systems before gears. Any game where having a solid object between you and bad guy with gun kept you from dying could be considered to have a ‘cover system’
Well if FF7 was the first “good” RPG as alot of Sony tools like to claim, then Gears is the first game to have a “good” cover system.
I just saw something wonderful. Ok, it wont show up like it did when I saw it so anything in () is crossed out.
Sony domination starts in (european launch) (price drop) (lair) (heavenly sword) (40 gb model) (Ratchet and Clank) (UTIII launch and mods) (Christmas 2007) (Q4 2007) (Q1 2008) 2008 (MGS4) (Killzone 2) Q2 2008 Q3 2008 Q4 2008 2009 FFXIII
@ six1s
Not realy, Winback on the N64 and PS2 later was considered good by many players of it’s day though by the time it hit the PS2 it was badly outdated and the PS2 verison got mostly awful reviews for such reasons, and it was a cover system game, literally, similar to that of Gears of War, even climbing over objects, through windows, leaning against walls, eta. Game was kind of fun, very difficault at times as well, though lock no kind of made it not much of a shooter, you had to stop to aim, or lock onto an enemy to fire, which Iguess is kind of realistic in a way since no idiot can fire while moving accurately atleast not on average, most shooter games are bunny hoping zig zag fests because people can run and spray bullets with okay accuracy. hehe
@Fatman
Not true, i found many moments while playing the game that melee turned supreme, one was when two shotgun man jumped and landed behind me, well i think they were both shotgun men, I know one was atleast, I had no time to aim and shoot, so I did two melee combos very quickly, brutal combos go faster than spamming melee button combo does, which is why brutal is so deadly you can do it near instently if you hit the buttons right making you less of a target.
@Lumina
You missed the point, Guns being better than melee is almost a law of nature, the fact that you cant beat two men to death without getting a gutfull of lead shows the the melee system is overpowered/ridiculus.
“which Iguess is kind of realistic in a way since no idiot can fire while moving accurately atleast not on average, most shooter games are bunny hoping zig zag fests because people can run and spray bullets with okay accuracy”
Depends on the speed at which you are walking and how you are walking. And not nessicarrly true, you ever see video of a swat team doing a breach? You move and fire at the same time all the time.
As far as realism is concerned in this matter, Operation flashpoint does it best.
They, not you in that second paragraph
I still stand by my “jack of some trades, master of none”. Uncharted, that is. It takes aspects from many games, but uses them in a more simple form. It’s a solid 8/10 sort of game, little more. It’s not really a system seller such as other PS3 games like… that blu-ray player inside of it. Still, it keeps me away from the ol’ Xbox, which is a thing of sin!
Played Super Mario Galaxy today, and the shortness of the levels infuriated me. I got no sense of satisfaction at all, especially when the fiddly Wii controls refused to register the fact that I was spinning the controller.
I think, then, you’ve dropped your senseor bar more than a few times.
Anyone here hear that Lair just made on the “Worst 5 games of 2007″ AP list, and that Heavenly sword was also in the top four most disapointing games? And that Final Fantasy was “Enough already”? Ouch.
How could Lair not make that list?
It made the top five worst games list.
Let me rephrase that, there is no way in hell that it wouldnt.
WTF….1UP is the Microsoft Defense Force?
They give perfectly reasonable reviews for games on all systems. If they are giving bad PS3 game reviews that means those PS3 games are just bad..
@SonySucks
Exactly, reason is Sonys biggest enemy.
Super Mario Galaxy just got “Game Of The Year” over at Gamespot.com……..SDF is waayyy off, the only game remotely PS3 in the nominations for Gamespots “Game Of The Year” were “The Orange Box”, “Rock Band” and “Call Of Duty 4″, and everyone of those was better on either the Xbox360 or PC.
So, you guys are unbiased in your review of Super Mario Galaxy, yet you constantly refer to Sony products in a review of a Nintendo product?
Only thing I can say is that this is a great job of satire, the 1984 style logic just makes it. Hilarious stuff, man.
Yeah, let’s see SDF’s GOTY!
If the worst game of all time, came out as a PS3 exclusive, they’d give GOTY to it, just because it’s a PS3 exclusive! *spongebob laugh*
@ burtybeetle
“Seriously, platformer’s are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO out of date, christ.”
So I take it you don’t like Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, or Sly Cooper either.
just found this on the ps3fanboy blog and i ask you.
when is the last time they advertised a 360-exclusive game?
http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/12/27/new-star-ocean-4-trailer-sneaks-onto-unsuspecting-internet/
star ocean 4 on the 360 is a rumour…
Lol jrpgs. Now there’s an out of date genre.
ok they only gave this game a 1 because they know its a good game and need to trash it same with every other non ps3 game now if it was on the ps3 they would praise it now i have a wii and i have to say it is a lot of fun ok my friends freaked out when they found out i had a wii and it is alot of fun so sdf suck my balls
six1s:
“Lol jrpgs. Now there’s an out of date genre.”
They’re all exactly the same. If you can write a generic story, copy another game’s battle system, and make characters with huge, spiky hair, you can make a JRPG.
You SDF are the greatest. Thanks for the accurate and unbias reveiw.
SDF is my No.1 source of PS3 and other consoles news.
Keep up the great work.
@SonySucksJustLikePS3- “ooh ooh theyre giving them bad review scores just because they are bad ooh ooh harder mr.gates mmmmmmmmm i would love to give you my bank account details and buy all the add-on crap you use to make more money” you ignorant fuck if you compare all the review scores you can easily pick out who is receiving M$ bribes and who isn’t, oh and personally i think it should be gametrailers instead of 1up i mean they give quite informative and fairly reasonable video reviews but they worship halo 3 like the single-player is any good (they nominated it for best story lol) and the multiplayer has actually evolved from halo 2. dont get me wrong its a good game but compared to what the M$ hype would have you beLIEve its like being fed horse shit by a naked nazi
it isn’t a horrible game and ive never heard it caleed a waggle stick stop being idiots.
one last thing
motion control:nintendo revolutionized it, sony did it for the lulz, and microsoft did it to fit in
STOP COMMENTING ON THIS SITE! LET THIS GODAWFUL SITE DIIEEE!!! *cackles*
Everythin’ is better on yur Ass whoever made this site . . every site gave this game no little than 8/10 . . . yu’re defending yur machine and this Action will get fans off ur system cz its all a LIE . . .
I love how the gave the official 2nd best game of all time a 1. I suppose LoZ:ocorina of time might get a 2?
mario is almost as bad of a franchise as halo, even giving this horrible game a 1 is pushing it
“Never before have I seen a title of such great importance continue to fall from grace with each successive installment.”
That is exactly how I would describe Final Fantasy.
I am willing to bet FFXIII is gonna suck too. Although it will have the best pre-rendered cut scenes of all time.
I’m not happy about that but it’s true.
