EA: Sony saving the industry from disaster
Just last week Sony Defense Force reported that Sony not only managed to make a profit last quarter, but the PS3 was also outselling the Xbox 360. To add more insult to injury for Microsoft and Nintendo, EA is reporting in their latest quarterly results that Sony is the reason for the vast majority of their earnings.
Q3 FY08 Sony/EA Revenue:
PS2: $301M
PS3 $102M
PSP $74M
Total Sony Revenue: $477M
How did Sony’s competitors manage in comparison? Not well. Thankfully Sony exists in order to keep the industry alive, otherwise we would be witnessing a gaming depression larger than what was exhibited back in the 80′s when Atari released E.T. for their gaming system.

What say you Reggie? Not your problem? When third party software sales are absolutely dismal despite record hardware sales for both the Wii and DS, it is your problem. Apparently, people are picking up the GameCu….err, Wii just to play Wii Sports and couldn’t care less about more prominent franchise titles, and especially third party efforts which do not sell on the system. This could spark a long-term trend that will curtail support for Nintendo platforms and lead to stifled sales. But again, Reggie, not your problem? Nintendo’s still at least making money themselves, right? Well, you’re certainly doing significantly better than our last place contender…

It would appear that Sony got crushed by everything (for this time period) from this generation in sales for EA (even the Wii with it’s PISS-POOR 3rd party titles). Neither was even close to a single Nintendo consoles’ levels. And both PSP + PS3 together less than 360.
Also for this gen specifically:
Nintendo: $261 M
Microsoft: $196 M
Sony: $176 M
If it weren’t for every other person in the world having a PS2, this might be quite a different story.

Xbox 360 sales are expected to be double of the PS3′s, since the system has been out twice as long as the PS3. It’s obvious math.
But the PS3 is selling MORE than half, meaning that if both consoles were released at the same time, the PS3 would be definitely winning, AND IT ALREADY IS, technically!

Seeming on how that 3rd party devs/publishers are making a quite a bit of money on the 360. It seems very unlikey that they will be abandoning any of the consoles anytime soon. You seem to forget that it just isn’t 1st and 2nd party games that sell, the majority of games come from 3rd party. You need a example look at the Saturn, Dreamcast, TurboGrafx16, and NeoGeo.

Yes you do have to install DMC4 on the PS3 (which isn’t a bad thing, kudos to capcom for that), hell even Capcom did a press release saying “that you should go make a sandwich and get something to drink, since you will be playing alot of it”. So get your shit togehter idiot and stop spouting off crap like its true moron.
You can’t say the 360 is going to “die.” That’s not the right word. “Complete” is more like it. Concidering the 4-year cycle of the original Xbox, logically, that means the 360 over half-done, and we may be seeing the next gen Xbox by Nov. 09. So, of course sales are slowing down. Pretty much everyone who wants a 360 has got one, which has been more than enough to sustain it till the next gen.
Meanwhile, only time will tell whether the PS3 sales will ever reach the extent of the others. There’s no doubt now that the PS3 will survive. It also has just about enough to hold it over till, hopefully 2010 (Sony’s screwed if they wait till ’12). More than likely, Sony’s already working on their next gen, concidering how much they hated the PS3.
As for Wii, it’s really on a different tier. I think this one was just testing the waters, seeing whether or not gamers still wanted Nintendo. There’s no question about it now. As for the third-party developers, it REALLY isn’t a problem for Nintendo. They have no control over that content, and it’s not their fault if the game doesn’t sell, nor do they suffer from it. It’s all on the developer’s head. Is it the theatre’s fault when a movie flops?
Sony is being really hypocritical, attacking Nintendo for following what Sony did last gen. While they praise the PS3 for pulling the same dumb stunts Nintendo did. The PS3 abandoned the Playstation legacy, following in, ironicly, the Gamecube’s footsteps instead.
P.S. That’s why don’t understand why PS2-lovers, like myself, don’t praise the Wii instead. It’s really the big step-brother to the PS2. Nintendo learned from their mistakes, and Sony’s sucesses. Then they gave it their own little twist.

The Wii is hard to praise among the hardcore gamer crowd (myself included), but if taken for what it is then it’s good times to be had with it. It will be a miracle is Sony can copy the same success they had with the PS2 with the PS3. Its kinda identical to what happened to Nintendo with the SNES and since then Nintendo hasen’t had the same success as back then.

also SDF should take down the Major Nelson link as well. I listen to his podcast and he is actually pretty fair to the PS3 and Wii (hell he owns all 3 consoles). Also he was on the Insomniac podcast as well back in october just before Ratchet and Clank was released.

I have an Xbox and an Xbox 360, but no PS2, so every Xbox user has a PS2, right? I have always hated the PS2 because of its sucky graphics that everyone thought were the best and its controller that is guaranteed to give a young person stunted hands and a grown person carpal tunnel. I also remember people being like “OMG I got Final Fantasy, uh, what number are they on? Oh, oh, I got Final Fantasy 22! The graphics are so goooooooooood! I hooked up to my HDTV and it looks so good that it messes up the TV and the image looks all crappy and distorted but then my PS2 caught on fire because it figured out it can’t even achieve 480p and it burned through my whole theatre cabinet and I owe my parents a lot of money for a new sound system and HDTV.”

What about R6: Vegas 1 and 2, GRAW2, and little bit of tactics in COD4. What I fear Haze will be is a run of the mill FPS with a gimmick tact on. TimeShift was neat for about a hour or two then it got hella boring.

If you run in gun in RV6 your gonna get your ass handed to you. Taking it slow and thinking the situation through is the key. Also Haze might be good, but then again i don’t really care what comes out of FreeRadical anyway (timesplitters 1,2,and 3 are “meh” and so was Second Sight.)

telling two teammates to stack up at a door and you goto another door that leads into the same room. Then you issue the order to brech, frag, and clear and they do that. At the time there doing that your taking out the enemy that’s popping up to shoot at your squadmates. Then you get some cover and get your squad to do the same because now there’s terrorists dropping from a copter and getting cover and now you gotta deal with that. What you describe in HAZE sounds like a good time but hardly a tactical type of game. It still is a run and gun game.
I’ve always admired stategic shooters, but I don’t play them for one reason: I suck! I can’t do stategy. I always get my ass handed to be on a silver platter. But that doesn’t mean I hate them. I think they’re an important genre.
As for EA in the article, there’s a fine line between irony and hypocracy. It’s like a movie studio criticising a theatre when the movie the studio made either flops or makes millions. The theatre has little baring on the movie’s content (unless they totally cut stuff out like Ultraviolet). And EA’s no one to talk.
Take Boogie for instance. I think EA delibrately made that crap to proove how bad the Wii was.
The shake-the-wiimote dance was stupid.
The singing was off, because the mike needed to hear a sound before it would register imput.
The songs were nice, but not for a singing game.
The game refused to work with any mike than the one it came with so you have to spend $60 on an otherwise $30 game.

I think EA has done a great job of handling the Rock Band guitar and drums breaking issue. One of my friends Rock Band Strat broke and he got a new one within a month and got a free copy of Skate. So props to EA for taking responsibilty on that issue.
