GTAIV causing 360s to RROD?
The game hasn’t even hit the store shelves yet but The SDF can exclusively reveal that gamers who’ve managed to snag an early copy of the 360 version are reporting falling victim to the dreaded but all-too-common 360 RROD.
The issue was highly prevalent during the release of Gears of War which heavily relied on streaming constantly from the 360′s ‘is there a jumbo jet in here or is your cheap Chinese-made console on’ DVD drive.
Unfortunately for 360 owners, 2 years on and the hardware doesn’t show any signs of improving and with the imminent release of GTAIV, which by all accounts relies even more heavily on streaming, expect the RROD problem to rear its head again – en masse.
Our sympathies are with those stuck with the inferior version on the inferior console.
Don’t forget to look out for our unbiased comparison of the two versions in the coming week. That is if our review 360 doesn’t RROD while we play it.

How can a game cause overheating? And with EVERY new 360 now being sold for at least the last 6 months all have the smaller falcon chip inside to prevent the RROD.
I played GTA for 8hrs solid last night, and i actually checked the back of the console to see what the heat was like, and it was still cool. So i highly doubt the RROD is going to ever rear it’s ugly head again.
All i can say is jealousy is a bad thing, but then you POS3bots have been jealous of the 360 ever since the POS3 came out. So why stop now?
As for the Inferior version of GTA4, i doubt it. I have actually played the 360 version, and theres NO slowdown, NO jaggies, nothing. So if you call a version of GTA 4 with a few extra missions rather than 2 epic epidodes, and having to wait 6yrs to instal onto the HDD (becoming the norm with PS3 these days) then you must be right.
One last thing, if you hate the 360 so much, why have u got one then?

u know i said the same thing when the ps3 launched and the rabid fanboys were camping a week in advance outside my local circuit city. but then guess what happened? i dropped it. i went out and bought myself a ps3? why? because lets face it, its the only way to play MGS4, God of War 3, Rachet and Clank, Gran Turismo, and many other franchises i love. i also enjoyed many of their new IPs. in the end its is really about the games. This article is nothing but a setup. They needed a way to make sure that they can give the 360 version of GTA4 a 1/10 and the PS3 version say… 12/10. But with them being the same and identical game they would have trouble shoveling that much bullshit, even for SDF. So they will now claim that their review 360 exploded into flames and were thus unable to play it.

As true to life as Sony Defense Force has it about this – some of you should just stoping being addicted to arguing and simply take their word for it. They REVIEW these games for a REASON, folks! So we don’t have to make a 60 dollar mistake. SDF has a better stomach than I – I wouldn’t even be able to review these games. They are just so awful, only a masochist would enjoy them. I got it off torrents for now, when it’s released next friday i’ll be picking up the SE edition. As long as i dont sign into LIVE until it’s release date (which im not really bothered about LIVE for the time being anyway) i’ll be fine.
Anyone who does get this via other means should also go out and actually buy the game when it’s released. Regardless what format, or who made it, games of this calibur should most defo have your support. Sure you can get it for nothing, but then why should a Dev bother making say GTA5 only for people to download it for free? Granted of all the sales of GTA only say 2% will actually be pirated copies, but even then, BUY THE GAME like i have.

This is so true. The DL content would have truly been a reason to get the 360 version – if it woulda dropped on the same day or close to the same day as the release of GTA4. I really wish Sony would have secured GTA4 as an exclusive. Then the 360′s death would have came earlier.

But if the DLC includes entire new cities like the rumors say, it’ll be enough that people come back to it. It worked with all the expansions for Oblivion on 360. I stopped playing Oblivion, then Knights of the Nine came out and I got back into it. Since the PS3 version came out way later and had all the expansions on the disc, I guess you can’t really identify with that.

rockstar origninally planned gta 4 as a ps3 timed exclusive, but sony failed to react or set aside the cash for the incentive. this coupled with the fact that take two was in financial trouble, it wasn’t in their best interest having spent that much cash on gta. 360 owners should be happy they will get to play gta 4 the same day as ps3 owners instead of last gen where they got a inferior port a year later. as far as downloadable content its subjective. by the time DLC comes in i will too busy playing ninja gaiden 2, mgs4, gears of war 2, resistance 2, haze, prototype, socom, and the list goes on forever. 08 is definitely gonna be the best year for gaming.

I could go on all day how awesome GTA 4 is, it’s an absolutely awesome game. Both the PS3 and 360 owners are in for a kick ass treat.
My fave parts so far is driving as fast as i can in a car, and walloping it into either a tree or a solid post, just to see Niko fly head first out of the windscreen and fly like peter pan down the road, lol.
Also trying to walk whiles drunk is awesome too, it’s very funny watching Niko falling about the place.
My only gripe with GTA 4 was when u initially drive the cars, Rockstar seem to have aimed it at more realistic driving, so it takes some adjustment to get used to, but you soon figure it out and go hurtling through the air in one, or end up doing 5 barrell rools cause you just killed it, lol.
Im 21% throught the game and so far it highly deserves the 10/10 scores it’s getting. Even SDF and hier biasness couldnt give the 360 version any less than 10/10 or the PS3 version.

The best way to describe GTA 4 is think of the evolution that GTA 3 was to GTA 1. GTA 3 looks and plays like a PSone game compared to GTA 4. Roll all the best bits if GTA3/Vice City/San Andreas into one, and times it by 1 million and you get the general idea of how awesome GTA4 is.
I have not once played a GTA game ever. Thought I’d just throw that out there so I can figure out what’s it all about.

If you actually gave me a list of games that proved the Wii’s worth as a ‘gamer’s console’, then I would give them the credit.
I give them all the credit in the world for their ads and the way they have made gaming accesible to everyone – but at the same time I take away a lot of the credit for now following the unwritten rule of respecting your third-party support. In the past with a ‘true’ video game console, that would surley mean the end.
But since Nintendo isn’t banking on games for the Wii, they feel that they can carry the Wii with a bunch of crap games and Wii-fit.
I’m not saying the games you listed are a complete waste of time – you’re right Okami was and is still a solid release – but when you compare them to the games on the way for the PS3 – and to a lesser extent, the 360 – they just really don’t match up.
Once again, if this was really a gaming console, it would spell it’s death. But they have so much other crap lined up for it that is not meant for gamers, that they can afford to do that.
The Wii can do whatever it wants and compete with itself or the PS2, but it’s just not fair to compare it to the PS3/360.
In the sales dept. for the PS3/360 and in the games dept. in the case of the Wii.
That’s what annoys me.

At this moment the Wii does have a higher attach rate than the PS3. No way i’m buying Wii-fit since I like to go outside and work on the house.

Sure a Wii game can’t match the graphic fidelity of the ps3 or 360 but it’s the way the gameplays which is important (like erik said but couldn’t give a good example) like MOH: Heroes 2 or Zack and Wiki.

It is FAIR to compare it to the PS3/360. Sure graphics wise it doesn’t come close to the other two consoles but graphics don’t mean it’s next-gen. If anything the Wii is a truly “next-gen” console more so than the PS360 due to the controls. Can you imagine what it would be like to play COD4 on the Wii or Ratchet and Clank? It would fucking rock imo. Just think of the possibilites that can be done with the Wii (if the crap stops coming out for it.).

GTA1 came out on PC on March 24, 1998. The PSX version came out July 2.
Ahh…MSDOS…I’m not even that old and I remember computer games like cyberia and Hive…..I never understood it but I remember my older bro going into MSDOS whenever we’d get a new game and typing some /run type thing, lol. Don’t ask me, we had Windows 95 back then, I don’t remember all the details, just big black screen, and some random set of words.

To tell you the truth – I’ve hated the Wii-mote on most games I’ve used it on. It really doesn’t add anything for me. The only games I’ve played, that I actually enjoyed using the Wii-mote with would be: Mario Strikers, Wii-Tennis, Wii-Bowling, and Rayman.
I get what you say that the controls are next-gen, but I would pick the advantages of a more powerful system over controls anytime.
I already experienced the PS2 for years – and after playing it for so long – I’m thirsty for bigger and better worlds, with better AI, and realism.
I’ll put it this way:
Would you rather play GTA3 on the Wii with Wii-mote compatibility?
Or would you rather play GTA4 on the PS3/360 with enhanced graphics, AI, realism, and detail?
A lot of hardcore gamers claim that enchanced graphics are just icing on the cake, when in fact; the technology IS a huge part of the actual game. You know what I remember the most about Assassin’s Creed?
Those awesome moments when I was at the top of a building appreciating the surroundings, and
feeling the vastness of the virtual world I was playing in. Something like that just isn’t possible to experience on the Wii.

I think it’ll be a while before any servers (XBL) crumble,most will want to get a feel for the single player experience first.
You watched the vids on youtube or anything yet? I’m not sure about the chase-cam,it seems to move around strangely. It remind me of the canyon races on that NFS game (which were shite)
It might not be the XBL or PSN servers that crash. Depends on whether the game uses peer hosting, Microsoft and Sony’s servers, or if R* is maintaining the servers themselves like EA does.

If this is real…this guy was streaming his pirated game to the net on a modded 360 (no warranty). Then it’s got to be the most deserved RRoD ever.
Earlier 360′s without the HDMI port are prone to RROD, some do, some dont. MS didnt really test them out properly opting to release the 360 before any other console.
All the newer 360′s from Aug 07 onwards all have the falcon chip (smaller chip) inside and are pretty much immune to RROD.
The RROD saga might over now, but still did damage to the 360 name, NO game whatsoever would cause RROD unless the 360 was running for hours on end each day with next to no ventalation. Serves MS right tbh. Hopefully the Next Xbox will be properly tested rather than rushed out, cost MS millions for thier stupidity.
The Halo 360 still had the bigger chip inside with a few extra heatsinks, it was more protected from the RROD, but not immune like the news ones out now are.
Sony were lucky though, had MS not caused the RROD saga, the PS3 would have been pwned before it even came out. Thats the only thing that turned people off was the RROD.
So tell me Sladey…is driving still fun on GTA? or is it too realistic?

Since it would be just a remake of GTA3 then theres really no need to experience it again so my answer would be of course GTA4.
Also remember that Bully (and Manhunt) is out on the Wii so theres a possibility of seeing a GTA game on that console but I doubt it. I do think that a open world game like GTA could be on the Wii and most certainly is won’t be anything like GTA4 but hey who knows what any company has planned for the Wii.
I too also remember the feeling I got with Assassins Creed being on top of a high ass building and peering down and just thinking to myself; holy shit this rocks.

I meant to ask you what you would prefer, a GTA3 style game (completely original) for the Wii, or GTA4 for the PS3/360.
What would you prefer? Intuitive controls, or the technology that makes the game bigger, more realistic, and pretty much gives it the feeling of a living, breathing city?
I know I would go for intuitive controls over, well, graphics whoring. Which again is going to see that I buy the upcoming Star Wars game for the Wii rather than my 360.
Substance over style, etc etc.

Since I’m going to play it safe I would buy GTA4 for obivious reasons that you stated before
But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t want to see a GTA type game on the Wii though. I’m a believer in new IP so if the game is good I would pick it up (i.e Assassins Creed).

Didn’t stickemup and animekid already show that you don’t know what your talking about half the time? Just because someone chooses to buy the 360/ps3 version over the wii doesn’t mean there “graphic whores”. I have a good reason why to pick up the new Star Wars game on the 360 rather than the wii and its simple: so i can play multiplayer with my friends since they don’t own a Wii (not saying they wouldn’t buy one that they just can’t find one).
But I will still rent the Wii version to give it a fair shake (boom boom ching).

the driving is awesome once you get used to it. tbh, the crap cars, and jeeps are pretty tricky to control, the faster cars are simple.
Ive unlocked and flown my first helicopter, which was kick ass.
This game is beyond good, it’s by far the best game ever released!!

No. Rather though they have given me a few good laughs at their own expense though. So they aren’t total washes.
I’ve never liked the GTA games… However, I posted here simply because of your “evidence” for this claim- that is to say, a single screenshot of a RROD’d 360 on a video streaming page. Provide evidence that it’s not an isolated occurrence and I’ll acknowledge this as true, but until then I’m dismissing it as more free Sony advertising.

@Coldyellow – I agree with you on many levels. I’m not trying to say seeing a similiar game on all consoles wouldn’t be a good thing – because it would – I was just trying to run home the point of the power of the PS3/360 being for more than just graphics.

@ elmenso1: The Falcon 360s are in fact quieter and more stable. (Don’t go into some rant about me as a 360 fanboy; I don’t even own one. I just know that the Falcon chipset generates far less heat.)
