IGN: GTA IV PS3 is the definitive version
Don’t say we didn’t tell you so. From the IGN review:
For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in.
While GTA IV is pushing the PS3 and 360 to the limit, it also runs amazingly well. Sure, there are framerate hitches here and there and (particularly on 360) there is some texture pop-in, but it actually runs better than I expected.
The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don’t worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don’t occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3, but the 360 is no slouch. Either version will do you proud.

I didn’t see where it said definitive version.
Can you point out where it’s confirmed?
It would seem that tiny difference in graphics vs. exclusive DLC that was paid for with an amount worthy of its own AA-rated game is a no-contest.
Smashing, i hope you enjoyed your wank knowing that after 2 yrs the PS3 finally has a AAA game.
Good to see how excited you are over the PS3 version having a slight visual edge because you waited 6 weeks to install it onto the HDD.
Personally, i dont really think anyone gives a rats ass that the PS3 version may be a touch better looking, it’s the gameplay that counts and both have the same, until the fall when the 360 version will have a new episode.
I’ve got a 360 and PS3 but after this news I’ll be getting GTA4 on the PS3 for sure. I’m sure it will be OK on 360, but I just couldn’t stand to have that feeling that there was a better version somewhere else. It would feel like I was missing out just because MS sold me some DLC that doesn’t even exist yet.
Sweet, delicious bitter xbot tears.
Look at them pointing pathetic excuse after pathetic excuse: “it was about time”, “DLC is better than technical superiority”, “Install time will make your corpse rot before playing the game”. Ah, the irony.
Let’s all do a memory exercise and remember how these sad individuals were promising us that 360 version would always have the technical advantage “because history proves that PS3 is always left with the retard port”.
They even made PS3 culprit of GTAIV last year’s delay, talking out of their asses how PS3 version wasn’t on par with 360 and implying it will end as a poor port.
Oh, how sure they were.
Their confidence started to wane a little with Sam Houser’s comments, stating that he preferred PS3 version. Now IGN has smacked them in the face, and they are running around grasping at straws. Even one of them is playing the card “what’s important is gameplay”, the loser’s card. The one that is drawn when accepting defeat at the technical race. Truly befitting.
SDF warned you, you didn’t listen. Now eat hot, stuffy, sweet smelling, delicious crow :p
Personally I rather have the thought of exclusive DLC any day then a few little technical things. Who cares if the game has technical glitches here and there (for crying out loud its a GTA game).
@sladey
your right the PS3 version is going to be the one to get right now but 5-6 months down the road the 360 version will be the one to get down the road.
Gentlemen… (POPS CHAMPAGNE CORK) … (pours a glass) … (takes a sip) … (pause) … we won. Sony wins. (takes another sip) … tastes, sweet, don’t it.
Check all the POS3 fanbots wanking just cause GTA4 looks that touch better on the PS3. Who cares, it’s still the same game as the 360′s. And come in a couple of months GTA4 will be out on the PC and pwn both consoles version, as well as have cutsom made mods for it. It’s only a game, it plays the same regardless of what it looks like.
Karma always comes around and bites you on the ass, you wait till it comes to online and the Sony servers once again crumble (like it did when people actually had a game to play ie. MGS Beta), Live will be running strong (as it has done with COD4, Halo 3 etc.) and all you POS3 fanbots will be crying like a buch of pussies again.
Get over it and just enjoy the game when it comes out, rather than act all faggoty because it looks a little prettier.
BTW, the load times on the 360 version are only when starting a mission and take aprox 8 secs cause i counted it, whoopy do if the PS3 version takes 5 secs because u waited 1/2hr to install it before actually getting into the game. That techincally makes the PS3 version longer in terms of load time because you got to wait all that time to install it.
I personnaly much prefer to pop the game in and play instantly rather than have to wait for it to install. I get enough of that with the PC.
The Xbox’ers could easily have the last laugh cause most xbox’ers have already played it and could easily just give the main plot points away and spoil it for you, but then Xbox’ers got a brain and dont cry like 5 yr old pre pubesent kids, so i doubt they will.
Wow SDF is depserate, they even included the “30 second” typo.
Last time I checked, More contect > AA.
@sladey
in all fairness I heard the install time on the PS3 version clocks in around 5 minutes.
I just can’t wait to play it though and now I have a brand new headset cause mine crapped out last night so I’m ready to go on tuesday (unfortunatly I have to wait untill after work to play
)
So the P$3 fanboys are jerking themselves off over a slight visual edge? Sorry graphics whores but gameplay will still always win out over your slight graphical advantage. So lets not count your chickens before they hatch now shall we? Remember that the 360 did obtain the rights to exclusive content.
But hey, while everyone else is playing the game’s new episodes you can still be going, “Hurr hurr hurr, pretty grafics” to the same old slightly better graphics on the same old content.
Also, where in the IGN review did it call the P$3 version the definitive version?
It’s funny seeing Xbots talking about karma, after hearing the last two years ceaselessly talking and FUDging about PS3′s failure at all levels (technical, power, blu-ray, sales, poor ports).
Karma is now on your asses, bitches xDD
And LOL at the installing time comments. Really funny how a 5 minute install that reduces loading times 40% and practically eliminates pop-in it’s a bad thing. If the 360 has the option to install on the HD you’d lose your asses to select it (while blushing furiously xDD)
And LOL too at the holy grail of DLC. Mere days before the launch still nobody knows anything solid about it. Only the rumored 50 million$ that supposedly costed, and some vague assumptions from MS reps. It’s really fishy. One would think that Rockstar knows PS3 version will be the most sold, as all GTAs previously demonstrated, or that maybe that DLC content is not so great and/or will have an outrageous price for MS stuffing their pockets. This DLC thing doesn’t have very good perspectives right now, and the general public ignores this. MS apparently chose to promote the cheap tard pack to emphasize the price advantage. Sadly at the same time blew up the DLC card, because this “substantious gaming content” will not fit in the tiny memory cards that the tard pack owners use. This way, MS is obliged to keep hush-hush about the DLC, hoping to frame the new tard pack users about how that console they just bought is unable to play this DLC thing.
@Xbotkiller
You graphics whores are so easy to please.
The best version of the best game ever is on PS3.
Suck it down, Xbots.
The “Slight visual edge” amounts to nothing.
The DLC Well be significant.
DLC doesn’t matter?
So that’s why Shivering Isles, and Nights of the Nine sucks SO bad huh?
Oh and SDF, show me where it says in that review that IGN says that the PS3 version is the “definitive” one.
Even Rockstar says that to get the most out of the game you’ll need the 360 version.
It’s not the “definitive” version. Current hardware will never be enough for the “definitive” version… if one were made, it would have to be as a port to next-gen hardware or better. Definitive implies that it’s exactly as intended, and, until a console that’s so powerful it can create images that look like reality is released, the developer will be limited by hardware.
This was a triumph
I’m making a note here…HUGE SUCCESS
It’s hard to over state my satisfaction
I’m not trying to wind anyone up,I just really like that song,honest!
So Paul, how does it feel that when the PS3 is pushed to its limits it only has a SLIGHT graphical advantage versus the 360 and not the vast technological superiority you have harped on about?
It’s great to see that the PS3 version has a slight edge, even if it’s just in the graphics department.
If I was in the market to purchase either a PS3/360, I would ask myself these questions:
Which game franchises am I more attached to?
(Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, Rathcet & Clank, Socom, God of War, Team ICO projects)
or
(Halo, Fable, Gears of War)
…and which games do I want to play in the near future?
Killzone 2, Little Big Planet, Wardevil, Resistance 2, Uncharted 2, The Agency etc.
or
Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, Too Human etc.
Simple as that.
As a PS1 and PS2 owner, there is no way that I would give up all those franchises I have grown up with and love.
Erik needs to go play Zak and Wiki before he opens his mouth about anything.
Pushed to its limits? it’s just a baby!
Even the 360 hasn’t been pushed to its’ limits…but when it is,the RRoD epidemic is gonna be huge!
Let’s face facts,it’s time for yall to join the winning team.
Another advantage about buying a PS3 right now is the great lineup of new games: MGS4, GTA4, Haze & GTP.
Good variety.
PS3 version is slightly less anti-aliasing muhahahahahahaha….. therefore my tiny brain tells me that it must be superior…..
Its a pity that you xboxers dont have the pre-install, you wont have chance to jerk off at the PS3′s ultimate power while its installing, you have to play the game straight away muhahahaha…
Win
Pure win
Im gonna go jerk off and use the result to polish my almight PS3rd
Goodbye y’all
@Paul
Read the article again:
“While GTA IV is pushing the PS3 and 360 to the limit, it also runs amazingly well.”
@Stickemup
“Erik needs to go play Zak and Wiki before he opens his mouth about anything.”
Why would I bore myself to tears in that manner?
YES!
Well done Rockstar(Sony Cambridge).
I’m glad that Europe and Japan are showing their technical strength in tackling the more sophisticated and newer hardware.
Shame about all the issues with the xballs version but maybe they’ll give that exclusive horse armour away for free.
Apparently Sony secured exclusive DLC also but I suspect it’ll be quite substantial.
I just hope this doesn’t cause another RROD plague like last summer.
Looking foward to Tuesday, gonna feel good to play online sans credit card. It just feels right.
Oh haha.
I almost forget we get Metal Gear Solid 4 a month afterwards.
Thank god for Blu-Ray and Cell.
It was a good article,it was a very good review of the game. But I think you’re alone if you take that particular part seriously.
@Paul
So you are cherry picking the article then? Very well, I will do the same and say that the PS3 doesn’t have any graphical superiority. Isn’t cherry picking fun?
Congratulations, you got better graphics. Which isn’t such a big deal considering the ports that have come along in the past, it’s about time someone knew how to port a PS3 game properly. I will say this though, this by no means makes it the definitive version by a long shot. Quite simply, you can simply ask yourself, which is more important to yourself, slightly less jaggies, or episodic content, and figure that out for yourself. I doubt many even know what anti-aliasing even is. This is getting ridiculous. I can’t wait to see the war that occurs when the DLC comes out. SDF DLC review: When we were downloading it our console RROD’ed due to the small 20gig hard drive exploding. When we finally downloaded it on our other review 360 we noticed that the game looked infinitely worse than on the PS3, therefore lowering the level of enjoyment to a subpar level, one that made it reminiscent of GTA II rather than the next gen experience we’ve come to love on our PS3. SDF Score: 0.5/10
Did anyone notice the review is done by the Xbox360 site editor Hilary Goldstein?
@erik
Stickemup is right you should go play Zak and Wiki, it’s everything you preach about (gameplay over graphics) but you won’t give it the time of day? Give the game a shot it deserves the good reviews it got but then again you should practice what you preach.
@erik
Stickemup is right you should go play Zak and Wiki, it’s everything you preach about (gameplay over graphics) but you won’t give it the time of day? Give the game a shot it deserves the good reviews it got but then again you should practice what you preach.
@Coldyellow
Hm, I’m unsure how to make this any more clear. But I’ll give it a shot: I am not and I never will fucking play Zak and motherfucking Wiki. Understand?
Did anyone notice the review is done by the Xbox360 site editor Hilary Goldstein?
Maybe more objectivity is needed by everyone when it comes to game console instead rampant console specific fanboism.
Come on Keri! Must you always get into unwinable arguments? I almost feel bad for you.
Just think back and compare Ps2′s early games to today’s.
Paul:
Is the article correct or isn’t it? You don’t get to pick the parts which please you.
@erik
Too bad for you since it’s a damn good game. I guess you really showed my “graphic whore ass” this time. Then again the game does make great use of the Wiimote and should be looked by other developers to see how a game for the wii should or potentially be played. In this case since your a hypocrit (since you do own a 360 stated in a previous post) I guess debating you is a moot point.
@ Paul
This isn’t a attack of any time so don’t get up and angry at me. Plenty of games on PS3 and 360 I’m sure push the console to the limit in many ways; it’s not simply graphics that will push a console to the limit which I was I think you’re thinking when you say the PS3 is just a baby. A game can have the worst graphics in the world and push a console to the limit if there are a quadzillion tiny squares battling a quadrillion tiny circles on screen at the same time. The vice versa is ture as well. I’m not too savvy on this but I’m quite certain many games push to the limit, ie: Metal Gear Solid 4, and I believe Gears of war. Sony and Microsoft especially like to overhype the power of their system as a way to generate undeserved hype in certain aspects of each of their systems, with CGI trailers and the like. PS3 Killzone 2 E3 2005 anyone? best example I can come up with.
Yes, I do own a 360, and at this very second I am playing Assassin’s Creed which I rented a few hours ago. So how does me owning a 360 make me a hypocrite I wonder?
As I am not a fanboy clinging to a single company I am able to judge systems themselves and not the companies they come from. Thus why I think that the Wii is great though the N64 was garbage. As the PS2 was great but the PS3 is garbage.
@erik
Assassins Creed is a perfect example: The game is a visual assault on your eyes but after your first few assassinations the game does get kinda boring since you repeat what you just did about seven more times. That game does intice you with its graphics but it’s gameplay get repetitive and thats what you always preach about.
Now heres a question for you
Woud you rather play Assassins Creed on the Wii or the PS3/360 which would you choose and keep in mind that the game would be the same on all 3 consoles but the graphics wouldn’t?
@EscapeTheHate
Angry? Moi?
Consoles aren’t pushed to any kinda limit in their first 18 months or so. Just compare GTAIII to SanAndreas,more than just a graphical improvement.
It would really depend how the controls are adapted to the Wii’s control scheme. But beyond that, it would be a random coin toss between the three. The graphics wouldn’t enter into the decision equation whatsoever.
Xbots in disarray! They are confused!
NOW is the time to attack! Smash them!
Finish all of them so they can’t retaliate tomorrow!
.-Sun Tzu – The art of war
DLC again?
Don’t you see how Microsoft is not touting this AT ALL?
Where are the commercials stating “GTAIV, the definitive experience through downloadable episodes”? Nowhere. I can’t find them. Only forum dwellers know of this, and that’s hardly a significant part of the game buying public spectrum.
There are two reasons for this guys:
- Downloadable content is not free. This is not a popular thing for the average consumer. I know xbots are so used to pay for everything (online gaming, gamerpics, themes, horse armor…), so you may find shocking that the general gamer is not so kind on the idea of paying more for a game that he already owns.
- Xbox tard pack (arcade and core) don’t have the means to store that content. It’s not convenient to give hype to a content a significant part of your userbase can’t purchase without getting skewered on a pricy official HD. The backfire would be terrible, isn’t it? Microsoft chose instead to promote the price difference.
Nobody but Xbots is caring about DLC now. The sooner you see this, the better, no more bitter tears later.
@xbotkiller
would you just shut-up since you don’t add anything to the conversation thats worth noting.
@Paul
thanks for the serious answer from the last article. I appreciate that and if I could I would send you a friend request over XBL since I would enjoy talking to you.
@OldJello
Alas…it was not to be my love. Maybe I’ll kill you on PSN in the future.
what is the deal with you threeshity lovers? Once again, do you honestly think ps3 won’t get the DLC?
probably by January. I don’t think America gets as many ps1 games and stuff simply because they aren’t selling many ps3′s over here. I know I seen Biohazard 1 on Japan’s store last month what other good downloads are they keeping from us? On another note, I just got done banging my hot wife. Winner!
@ColdYellow.
I’m providing useful points. If you don’t like them and don’t find them useful, that’s your problem, not mine
You are the one that’s talking anything but GTAIV at this point. Zack & Wiki and Assassin’s Creed hardly relate to the title in this blog post “IGN: GTA IV PS3 is the definitive version”. I think that it’s you who should shut up, don’t you agree?
@Coldyellow – Ignore Erik. Every comment he posts makes him look more and more like a ‘know-nothing’.
He has no idea what he’s talkin’ about. First he defends the Wii for being so innovative, then he says ‘Zak & Wiki’ isn’t worth his time.
Even if it’s just one of FEW Wii third-party games that is actually worth it’s price.
Come on! The Wii’s library is already running pretty thin – when you don’t know about one of the key third-party games you just can’t argue with us!
@xbotkiller – I never thought about the DLC not being free. That kinda just adds to why it isn’t as great as it could be.
But who knows?! Maybe it really is gonna be some great content that adds even more territory to the game, and adds some great missions.
Who knows?
If the PS3 also gets DLC, then that’s gonna be something…
What IF the DLC the 360 gets, is in addition to the multi-platform DLC being released?
That’s really gonna sting.
Especially if it’s released simultaneously.
Imagine if the ads look like this:
“Download new content for GTA4 on the 360 with ADDITIONAL downloads not available on the PS3″
@paul
maybe by the end of the year I should have a PS3 (as long nothing unexpected comes up).
@stickemup
Yeah I’m finding that debating him is useless since on one hand he calls everyone “graphic whores” and then he plays Assassins Creed (argueably one of the best looking games of last year with shallow gameplay).
@Paul
Also what makes you think you would be able to take me down on PSN in the first place
You people bicker like children.
“He has no idea what he’s talkin’ about. First he defends the Wii for being so innovative, then he says ‘Zak & Wiki’ isn’t worth his time.”
I get to choose what games I like and what games I play. If I don’t like a game thats my chose, not yours.
@erik
Not disagreeing with you on its your choice what you want to play or not. Its just that Zak and Wiki is just a great example on the Wiimote and how a game should be kinda done for the Wii. At least give the game a rent to see if you like it and if you don’t then you don’t. I had my reservations about it at first but its a very solid game. I don’t tell people to play a crap game (or buy one) at all. I personally found the new Iron Man game to be surprisinly fun (its not worth $60) but it has problems with it and I can see myself buying it once it gets down to $30 or less (just ask Spooky205 about it).
Sweet. I’m going to be picking up the vastly superior Playstation 3 version.
@Erik – You don’t get it man. We’re not saying you HAVE to like – but you simply can’t be arguing for the Wii when you had NO idea what ‘Zak & Wiki’ is.
That’s like me arguing for the PS3′s worth, and not knowing what Haze is.
I shouldn’t say you’re not capable of defending the Wii, or capable of arguing when it comes to gaming, but the comments that came after you showed your ignorance on ‘Zak & Wiki’ are what made you seem full of BS.
You’re so inconsistent.
@Erik – I haven’t had a chance to play the Iron Man demo, but I was kinda expecting the game to turn out that way.
With an average all-over experience, but some really fun moments during the flying part of it.
Is that close to being true?
I meant:
@Coldyellow – I haven’t had a chance to play the Iron Man demo, but I was kinda expecting the game to turn out that way.

Is that close to being true?
The Iron man demo sucked sucked sucked. That out of the way.
@Stickemup
Zak and Wiki is one game and no more important than any others. Knowing or not knowing it is a moot point.
@erik – You still don’t get the importance/significance of the argument.
It’s not about you not knowing about ONE game.
If you can’t figure it out by now though, you probably never will.
@stickemup
Yeah that almost hits the nail on the head. There looks to be some customization involved in the full game to accomadate to ones play style. The flying is a bit to quick at first but you can get used to it. There also some strategy involved with power allocation between life, thrust, firepower, and i think melee (not sure but there mapped to the d-pad). I was surprised for a movie tie in that it wasn’t crap all around and it gives you a sense of maybe being like Iron Man. Like I said before I’m going to buy it eventually (probably during the summer drought) when it gets down to $20-$30.
@erik
thats cool not every game is for everyone.
@stickemup

um flames and fanboys jizzing over overpriced hardware aside.
From what I read, the differences are minuscule at best.
Right now I own an Xbox360 and a Nintendo Wii. I’d like to get a PS3 but right now, other than watch Blu-ray movies or play games that will come out in the next couple of months or years, I don’t see a reason to. I don’t feel that the “slight graphical advantage” that the PS3 has will be worth dumping 499 dollars into buying a new system just to play one game.
The SDF and its members, besides from providing minutes of entertainment (AKA LOL at Fanboys), have done little to convince me, a non-fanboy fence-sitter, that PS3 will be the definitive this-gen system. To be quite honest I find this site to be a fucking joke. its already been proven that the guy who owns wii60 also owns this site.
Doesn’t anyone who has a fucking brain realize that this site is just a massive troll? Why is it not a Sony defense force….why is it actually a Sony Anti-360 and Wii offense force? why do all these fucking fanboys just hang out here to troll each other into flame wars? WHY AM I EVEN POSTING HERE? thats a good fucking question, and to be honest I don’t really know why….
Dont worry though, I’m sure someday Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo will all return the favor for your fanaticism someday…I mean…Sony might just make its next console somehow cost MORE money with more useless features to make up for the fact that it will have even less exclusive games. Microsoft might just make a console that…instead of red ringing….gave you a comforting BSOD with an assortment of classic windows error messages. As for Nintendo……who knows, maybe they’ll stop making gimmicky games for gimmicky systems…or at least one can only hope.
Here’s a link for all you MGS fans out there

Ah, Hans is back.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t IGN give a 9.7 rating to Super Mario Galaxy, while SDF gave a 1? Kinda hard to trust IGN after that I’d say, right, SDF?
Barely better graphics <<< Extra DLC. Duh.
AND the PS3′s been pushed to the limit. How disillusioning.
@Coldyellow – Hehe, that was cool. I didn’t like my code name though.
@I Wipp for Sony – It’s funny how people try to find ways to make SDF look like they are biased. Don’t you get that this site thrives on you doing that?
You ARE the reason why this site exists.
Thank you.
THE PS3 VERSION OUTSELLS THE 360 VERSION 3:1!!!!!
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/868/868764p1.html
well, in the UK anyways, but it speaks a lot for the 360′s abysmal overseas support.
Damn, I just saw the commercial for GTA4 while watching the Lakers Vs Nuggets game.
It was lenghty and very intriguing. I was suprised to learn at the end of it that it was a PS3 exclusive commercial.
The 360 better have their own commercial or else a lot of people are gonna start thinking it’s only on the PS3.
Does anyone know if there is a multi-platform commercial for it? Or a 360 commercial?
I just think it’s funny, the way that people who HATE Sony would say “HAW HAW THE 360 VERSION LOOKS SLIGHTLY PRETTIER”, and now that the shoe’s on the other foot, graphics don’t seem to matter so much.
Considering how little we know about the whole content of GTAIV as a whole, we have little to gauge how much DLC there is, and how large it is compared to the game itself. Is it extra cars? Extra missions? We don’t know. To tout it right now is really pointless.
Also: MGO Beta’s failings were Konami’s fault, not Sony’s. Konami seemed to think that only ten people worldwide would take part in the Beta.
Spoilerz the name, and revealing spoilerz is my game!!!
THE PS3 is shit!!! But thats not a spoiler because everyone already knows that.
Michelle is really called Karen and is a Gov. Agent. Not your girlfriend.
Niko kills Vlad, then Mikhael, then Playboy X, and last but not least he kills Demitri at the end of the game.
Any other Spoilerz you PS3 fanbots want to know?
hey hans can i get a gow 2 story im dying to c your great SDF opnion on it
@ ColdYellow
Ironically I found Assassins Creed to be one of the deepest games I’ve played in a while; the storyline blew my mind, especially at the end, I was talking about the game to anyone who was interested. It was a subtle nuance in the story, how so much of it tied in with real world history, though they admittedly took huge artistic modifications to some of the actual events. I ended up having a few lengthy conversations with my father on the game, occasionally he would watch the scenes as well. At one point I’d heard that they were making a book about it, not sure if it was true, but it was probably one of the best videogame plot I’ve vested my time into studying. The ending blew my mind. Scared the hell out of me too, since so much of it is based upon real world facts.
If you want to see a synopsis of the end of Assassins Creed, you can go here.
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=175552
Again I’ll say this though, you simply have to figure out which version is definitive by your own priority. Episodic DLC, or better graphics?
by the way, Rockstar did hint at the DLC being new cities/areas
http://news.filefront.com/gta-iv-dlc-will-be-how-big/
my other comment is awaiting moderation so I’ll just post this here, it hints at the new DLC being new cities/areas.
http://news.filefront.com/gta-iv-dlc-will-be-how-big/
If that link is true then I don’t think anyone can dispute: Whole damn cities > barely better graphics.
I don’t think even Hans/Paul/SDFbots could dispute that.
Every time a 360 dies an angel gets his wings.
I really enjoyed the ironman demo. I liked the controls I liked the graphics, although I hope the levels aren’t all deserts.
Can’t you install GTAIV on the 360 too? I thought I heard that somewhere.
@EscapeTheFate
Theres no doubt the story was a strong factor in the game and very engaging but the gameplay did get rather old. I can’t wait for the sequal as well.
Damn, I just saw the commercial for GTA4 while watching the Lakers Vs Nuggets game.

@Stickemup
The only GTAIV ad I’ve seen was a 360 exclusive,but I’m English,the 360 needs all the help (miracles) it can get here.
BTW,only in America would you have a team called the nuggets,and I like that. Did you see the spicey chicken wings Vs the Quarter pounders w cheese game?
I’m still really sketchy about the DLC for the 360…
could be another lair fiasco…
meh, I’ll just pick it up for the ps3.
oh wait, I got rid of it for another ps2 and a bunch of bemani ASC’s didn’t I?
OH YEAH! THAT’S RIGHT! I CAN PLAY GAMES THAT ARE ACTUALLY GOOD NOW!
*goes to further deteriorate drummania ASC pads*
I like this i like this a lot. If GTA is pushing the PS3 like it says in the article, proves that power = nothing

I know I posted this already, but its actually relevant (unusual for my posts) and it’s something you all should know.
I couldn’t make sense of that mr. one.
GTA SUX
Seriously, either way, why does everyone care? It’s not that great of a game.
@Preatorian_Man
Not that it makes a difference cause a sale is a sale but that was at ONE supermarket chain called ASDA. So that doesn’t reflect on total sales in that region but I wouldn’t be surprised if the PS3 version outsells the 360 version at first.
If the DLC does include whole new sections to the 360 version then its conceivable that the 360 version in time can outsell the PS3 version in general. Basically what I’m getting at is that sales will wane on the Ps3 side but will pick up on the 360 just because ppl will know there getting there monies worth (if M$ advertises the hell out of GTA4 when the first “exclusive” DLC comes out)
meh. i will most likely get both. the houser bros seem to favor the ps3 more so i knew ps3 owners would most likely get the slightly better verion. i will pick up the 360 version as well as the PSN is obviously no match for XBL. so it seems very simple to me. ps3 for single player (i cant help it im afraid, i wouldn’t be able to play gta 4 in peace of mind knowing that there is a better version on the ps3 than the 360 and there will be exclusive dlc for that version as well.). 360 version for multiplayer and downloadble content (if its worth getting and if i am not too busy with other great games coming out.)
i doubt casuals will buy a 360 because of the promise of DLC which no one knows what it is, costs, or in what time it will be availible. MS needs to parry sonys game lineup somehow if they want to be a major contender this year. i can easily name 10 exclusive games that i want this year for my ps3 where i can only name 5 exclusive games on the 360 and 2 of those 5 are first day buys. at the end of this year my prediction is that both consoles will be very close. i can see sony closing the gap and finally getting their head out of their collective asses.
@Spooky
How very unbiased of you. How very mature you are. You make me sick!
I only just found out that the helicopters can be sixaxis controlled,so I’m looking forward to flying round the living room like a hyped up tard. Excellent!
@paul
that does sound cool. i usually pick up heavenly sword from time to time just to guide arrows via sixaxis into enemies skulls.
The DLC will be a continuation of the GTA 4 story. Niko has come to America to find 2 people from his Old Country, on the main GTA 4 Niko finds the first person at the end. The Exclusive DLC will be a new city in which Niko hunts down the second person.
Now that i have completed GTA 4 it all makes sense where the DLC will fit in. Hence the reason Rockstar has always stated that you will need to play the 360 version for the full experience.
So with that said, The PS3 version may look a little prettier, but your only getting half the game. Dont bother with the ‘The PS3 will get the content a few months after’ arguement becuase you wont. Thats why MS paid $50 Million for the EXCLUSIVE epidoses, and finsigh the rest of the story on the 360. Clever move if you ask me.
@Paul
“I only just found out that the helicopters can be sixaxis controlled,so I’m looking forward to flying round the living room like a hyped up tard. Excellent!”
You will now know what it will feel like to be a Wiitard like spooky and I. Welcome to the motion control fraternity dude.
It also makes sense why MS hasnt mentioned a thing about the Exclusive DLC. Let people buy the PS3 version, then when the DLC arrives in a few months, they will market it to death and people who have the PS3 version will go out and buy a 360 for the content. Paitence is the key. Why deal your hand now when u dont need to?
If the content is as big as Vice City as Rockstar has said it is, then people will buy it as it’s effectivly a new GTA game which can only be found on the 360. Not only that but there will be 2 new epidoses, not just 1. PS3 players will have a few added on side missions only.
Keep your better graphics, i’ll take the superior multiplayer and DEFINITIVE version that the 360 holds all day long.
@OldJello
I like the motion controls only for flying,so far anyway (warhawk R&C) A console that uses them as prominently as the Wii seems too much like hard work to me. And when said console has a big hit named WiiFit,I know it’s too much for my old ass!
@Sladey
The vids I’ve seen on youtube seem to show the chase-cam moving around behind the car,is that offputting?
Sladey= our definitive source for pre-release GTA4 news and coverage. Way to go; cheers to ya!
@Paul – Yeah man, and you should see the Nugget’s logo. It’s ridiculous.
@Slady – Are you kidding me? That would be such a strong argument if the DLC was headed to the 360 anytime soon, but the reality is that none of us know.
Nobody is going to go out and buy a 360 because of DLC – no matter how good it is. Are you even remotely aware of what the PS3 is going to have around the time the DLC is ‘supposedly’ going to be released?
Were going to have Metal Gear Solid 4/Metal Gear Online, Killzone 2, Resistance 2 (60 player online/8 player co-op), The Agency, Socom, and Little Big Planet.
And the 360 owners are going to have GeOW 2, Fable 2, and Ninja Gaiden 2.
For someone who has both the PS3/360, I can see the argument for buying the 360 version.
And remember another thing, the DLC isn’t going to be free. A lot of people aren’t willing to pay for X-Box Live on top of the price of the DLC – which if the rumors are right about it being a new city – I highly doubt it’s gonna have a $10 price-tag.
Might I also mention that right after those great games were going to be preparing ourselves for RE5, Uncharted 2, Final Fantasy XIII, INfamous, God of War 3 and a slew of other games.
The importance of GTA4, is not how many copies it sells, but how many consoles it moves for each company. If the 360 version of the game outsells the PS3, but more PS3s are moved because of the game, then I don’t know about you guys, but I would see that as a failure for M$.
To put it simply, nobody is going to go out and buy a 360 for a game that is ‘old news’.
The DLC is needed NOW or very soon.
There isnt gonna be a GTA V for ages, Rockstar said they are gonna just keep adding to GTA IV for a long time…..
So expect to see lots of nice Downloadable content after the exclusive 360 stuff,
also errrrr win,
pure win.
muhahahahahaa *cdough* bug….
*shoots nextgenuser*
jesus hes annoying,
surely even you PS3 owners here find him annoying?
@Paul
When driving it’s the normal view we’ll always had on GTA, if you hole the B button when driving it goes into cinimatic view.
@Stickemup
Makes sense that MS arent going to shell out $50m for the PS3 version to have the continuation of the story (which im pretty positive the 360 DLC will be, you’ll understand why i think that when u complete it).
I agree the PS3 will have some sort of DLC for themselves but not in the magnatude the 360 will have it. Like i say, even Rockstar themselves have stated all along that to have the full experience you’ll have to have the 360 version. Put 2 and 2 together and it’s clear what they meant by it.
I can see the PS3 version having a extra multiplayer mode and a few extra things to do which the 360 version wont, but it wont be the rest of the story. I hope im wrong cuase regardles of what version you have, everyone should still get to play it. Shame MS dont see it that way, up to them really though, they did pay $50m for it aafter all and thats not exactly a few quid, it’s ALOT of money and they will want thier moneys worth.
Of course the DLC isnt going to be free. No one on thier irght mind would think any different. Rockstar arent going to effectivly make a new game and give it away. But if it’s the size of Vice City that Rockstar says it will be, then i doubt anyone will complain if they got to pay for it either.
It’s just come to my attention that there are 2 ending for GTA 4. Ive got hte first ending, but as i saved just before the last mission, i’ll have to play the game again for the other.
Dont ask what the endings are cause im not spoiling it for anyone. Plus i have no idea what the second ending is.
@Sladey
I hope you still plan on BUYING the game, you illegal pirating little tinker you!
The way I see it is that the 360 exclusive well remain exclusive and any other DLC will be on both platforms.
The thing I believe that most ppl complain about how dlc should be “free” is the wrong way of looking at that. Would anyone goto work and not expect to get paid? I don’t think so. So when R* charges for the content (which i think is up to them to set the price along side M$) is it so wrong to pay them? If it is new cities for the exclusive DLC then think of possibly how long it took to make that city, the algotrithms for traffic, missions, VO work, artists, vehicles(?), new guns(?), how to integrate it into MP, and other assets. So when it comes to DLC is paying for it that bad? In this case no it isn’t. Now i don’t believe in paying for fanmade content because thats just bullshit.
I got my SE version all ready and waiting for tuesday. Theres games and theres GTA 4. Games like this should most dinfinaly be bought, encourages lazy dev’s to make decent games if they want to sell them, and encourages Rockstar to keep bettering GTA.
@Sladey – Very interesting stuff, you are the main source for all of us right now, hehe.
@ Coldyellow and Sladey – Do you guys think people are gonna care as much about the DLC in the fall?
I don’t like the idea of having to pay for X-Box Live and DLC.
I don’t mind paying for DLC – if it’s worth it – but I would mind paying for X-Box Live.
Games like Warhawk & Folklore have shown some really great examples of how to put out DLC, Burnout looks like it’s doing really good too, in the DLC department.
Once again though – it really comes down to which franchises you want to play.
No matter how much content the 360 version of GTA4 has, there is just no way I would miss out on MGS4, FF13, Gran Turismo and God of War 3 – just to name a few, in-house exclusives – I hold all these franchises dearly to the gaming part of my heart.
But I understand that the same goes for 360 fans, although I do think the PS3 has way more franchises than the 360 (just this generation alone we’ve been introduced to Heavenly Sword, Resistance, Folklore and Little Big Planet).
Another thing about the 360 is that it’s exclusives up ’til now have been good, but think about it. I can play Gears of War, Mass Effect and Bioshock on my PC.
You can’t say the same for the PS3 exclusives.
@Stickmeup
“You can’t say the same for the PS3 exclusives.”
Although you are right about that, for many people that isn’t a huge loss.
@Stickemup
With the DLC release date around the fall and with enough marketing it could get everyone interested in the game again. The PC has been doing it for years (expansion packs) and what about WoW? Hell people pay 12.95 a month to play it and then they go out and buy the expansions as well (hell that makes XBL look cheap by comparison).
There’s no doubt many of good franchises I like to play are on the PlayStation brand and I agree with you that they got a stronger looking lineup this year. One thing we do have to remember is that MS and Nintendo still have things to reveal at E3 this year as well but we all know what sonys plan is. Like I said before, “I hope to have a PS3 by the end of the year (or a HDTV, but the PS3 is more appealing than a tv.).
@OldJello
If Sladey’s right,you’ll be able to get a cheap second hand Ps3 come the fall. When everyone’s sellin em so they can go and get a 360 for the ‘full GTA experience’. Not me however,I’m a die-hard Ps3er.
@Paul
The only problem I can see about buying a second hand console is that it might or is out of the manufactures warranty and if it breaks your fucked out the money to pay for it. But does sony offer a extended warranty you can pay for? Also maybe by then the DualShock 3 will be bundled in with the console as well when i decide to get one.
@OldJello
I was just kidding about everyone selling their Ps3s. Sure you’ll want a brand new one,with warranty and shiney box,but warranties are quite unnecessary for Ps3s,they NEVER break.
As for your perceived importance of the dualshock,do you really appreciate rumble? Personally,I’ve always deactivated rumble,not because it pisses me off or anything,just because I don’t think it adds much to gameplay and it’s a battery killer.
“but warranties are quite unnecessary for Ps3s,they NEVER break.”
http://kotaku.com/378576/sony-dont-know-what-error-code-80010514-is-either
@Keri
lol I like that,the first thing mentioned was the RROD.
@Paul – Hahaha “they NEVER break”
@ColdYellow – Hope to game with you sometime in the future (if you ever get a PS3)
@erik – Come on dude, I’ve been willing to give you a second chance after the ‘Zak & Wiki’ fiasco, but your comments are so biased…
“For many people, this isn’t a huge loss”
You just can’t deny the impact the Playstation franchises have had on the videogame landscape.
God of War, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy are the best of the best in their respective genres.
Ratchet & Clank is at the top of the platform genre as well – to some it’s on the same level as any Mario game.
Resistance is no slouch in the FPS world. RFOM2 could catapult it towards the upper echelons of the FPS genre.
Uncharted was executed ‘almost’ perfectly. The only reason it didn’t garner more attention was because it came out when the PS3 was struggling, and most people didn’t get a chance to experience it fresh out-the-box.
Team ICO has given us great games. (@erik – you can’t deny their genius – if you claim to appreciate innovative games) And they just so happen to have one of the greatest looking games on the PS2.
It’s too early to say that Little Big Planet is going to be the second coming, but A LOT of people think so. It’s been said before that the one thing that happens when someone picks up the control to play LBP, is a smile. They just can’t help but smile. That’s something special in my book.
I also can’t wait to see if “Heavy Rain” is going to be as special as it sounds. Have you guys read the comments people have made when they have seen it running?
Wardevil looks great as well… (look it up erik, cause I know you have no idea what any of these games are)
INfamous looks good too.
There is just no WAY I would miss out on all this.
The point again is that you just can’t play these games anywhere else, you simply can’t say the same with the soon-to-be PC released 360 games.
@Paul
I really don’t notice rumble much anymore in games that do use it but sometimes it does bring a level of tactile information back to the player especially in racing games. Otherwise I didn’t like how light the sixaxis is and having that extra weight from the rumble makes it (to me anyway) more precise and sturdy.
@stickemup
“For someone who has both the PS3/360, I can see the argument for buying the 360 version.”
so you do own a ps3/360 as you said or am i just reading it wrong and you gots only a ps3. Sure I would game a game with ya and with Paul as well.
Apparently the 360 version doesn’t render at 720p.
Could be 640p-gate all over again, folks.
@ColdYellow – No sorry, I don’t own a 360. I meant for someone who DOES have both, I can see why they would want the 360 version.
@Paul
I like that the second thing it mentioned was that you were totally full of shit.
@Stickmeup
“The point again is that you just can’t play these games anywhere else, you simply can’t say the same with the soon-to-be PC released 360 games.”
Yes, and I agreed with your point that you can’t play PS3 games on a PC as with most 360 games. But we disagree on the fact that I think thats a blessing rather than a problem.
@Kill all xbots
So you prefer style (higher definition of the PS3 version) over substance (new cities in the 360 version). Now explain to me how you are NOT a graphics whore?
A comment I just made is waiting in moderation. But I will add that I one day hope to play a Sony system again. I hope by the time the PS4 is released that Sony gets their heads out of their collectives asses. The PS1 was great, the PS2 was amazing, the PS3 falls completely flat. So perhaps the Playstation franchises will interest me again if the PS4 isn’t a flop like the PS3.
We’re all going to enjoy the game regardless of what system we play it on.
@erik
I think “flop” is too strong of a word if anything untill last year it was a disapointment. To call it a “flop” with the titles coming out this year and early into next is far from a “flop”. A flop is the nintendo virtual boy.
You really make me laugh Keri…We get it already! The Ps3 has wronged you in some way,and will NOT be forgiven!
Well,it’s half past drunk here in England,i’m offski,have a nice day America.
^^ think “flop†is too strong of a word if anything untill LATE last year it was a disapointment.
@ColdYellow – Hahaha, dude you’re giving erik way too much credit. What makes you think he even knows what a Virtual Boy is? He doesn’t even know what ‘Zak & Wiki’ is!!! Hehe… I know I’m beating it to death.
@erik – In all seriousness… Does any of this ring true in your Wii-ears?
@erik – Come on dude, I’ve been willing to give you a second chance after the ‘Zak & Wiki’ fiasco, but your comments are so biased…
“For many people, this isn’t a huge lossâ€

Actually I played a few games on the Migraine Boy you should know.
And to the post you, well, reposted. I read it the first time. Further posting it isn’t going to change my opinion that the prior version of the post didn’t.
@erik – The long-term effects of the Virtaul Boy are evident now. Those migraines have made you lose all sense of what good gaming is.
I’m sorry…I didn’t know…
Good gaming doesn’t have a release price of $600, I at least know that much.
does anybody know for sure if the ps3 version on gta suport rumble?
I think a lot of people would agree with you, I am one of them. But once again, that argument no longer holds weight.
And remember, good gaming doesn’t use a board to do yoga and push-ups either.
And if you take into consideration how much a Wii costs after you buy 3 more Wii-motes and 3 Nunchucks, it doesn’t look as cheap anymore. And don’t tell me you don’t need them to have fun, because we all know the Wii is meant for a living room full of non-gamers. They all need a control you know.
By three wii-motes and three nunchucks? Are you insane. No, sorry. Comparing console price to console price the Wii is stil cheaper. Thats like saying “Well if you buy the Wii AND a solid block of gold its not cheap anymore!”
So yes, you don’t need them to have fun.
When you sway from the actual thing while you’re comparing – like you did with the gold – it greatly weakens your argument.
You know what I mean.
If it wasn’t for my friend having 4 Wii-motes, we wouldn’t even touch the Wii.
Please don’t compare the Wii to the PS3.
If you want, compare it to the PS2, but not the PS3.
Like you would say:
It’s like comparing the price of a Ferrari with the price of a Malibu. Of course the Malibu is cheaper!
See what I mean about the swaying?
Ok, I’m gone. Gotta go spend some quality time with my girl. Paz.
@ Praetorian_Man
I know this has probably been said but that’s one store. Every store I go into that actually sells games properly instead of being shoved into one aisle i.e. gamestation, game etc have all told me it’s the other way round.
One store does not mean it is outselling it in the UK. Especially seeing as though my local asda only promotes the PS3 as it doesn’t sell them much. And I know that as one of my best friend works on the entertainment section.
Also, he has said that the majority of people have pre-ordered elsewhere rather than at asda. And that the people who have enquired and not followed it up have asked for the 360 version rather than the PS3 version.
So it sort of negates that statement surely as like I said before, one shop doesn’t make the UK
Anyway, back on topic.
Seeing as though Ihave all 3 consoles and mostly play on my 360, I will be getting it for 360. I’m not fussed about the “minor technical enhancments” on the PS3, I just want a game that runs smoothly and I have read that that one is actually the 360 version. The PS3 version stutters when things get crowded more so than the 360 version does AND the PS3 version also suffers from jaggies where there shouldn’t be any. The graphics do look a little better on the PS3 I admit and I’m not disputing that, but it’s the smoothness of the gameplay for me. I was going to get it for both but since home has been delayed AGAIN, I’m not going to bother with the PS3 version at all. I was looking forward to seeing what intergration there would be but it looks as though I’m going to have to wait for that.
I wasn’t too fussed with the game before, but now I am after seeing the reviews
And saying that four wii-motes is necessary to have fun weakens your argument. And yes, I will compare the Wii to the PS3. Were I compare a system to the PS2 it would be the Gamecube, as they are both previous gen systems.
And the PS3 a Ferrari? In your dreams.
once again, can sombody out there confirm if gta for ps3 has rumble ds3 support!
YES. I can CONFIRM that the PS3 version DOES support rumble.
I would like to see a stat sheet that shows what version people who both have a ps3 and an xbox360.
of course a Sony fanboy will get the ps3 version, as will an xbox fanboy get the 360 version
I can confirm that hans is still a dipshit!
Wait you mean you NEED 4 Wiimotes and 4 Nunchuks to enjoy the system?
So the last 12 months I’ve been having fun playing Wii games didn’t really happen…fascinating!
Oh wait, I’ve got a theory of my own, you’re a retard!
Yeah I like that one better.
I am playing the PS3 version as we speak.
I also have the 360 version that Microsoft sent us with a bag of goodies for the review. The pop-in is ridiculous on the 360 version and is almost unplayable. My system also RROD’d shortly after playing it so I have to send it in to Microsoft for repairs. Luckily, I have seen enough to make a judgment on the game and our review will reflect that accordingly.
The SDF review will go up soon.
Why isn’t anyone talking about the Wii version of GTA4?
its funny how “worst case scenarios” always happen here at SDF but other reviewers says they both look almost identical, but achievements are fun and sixaxis controls in the ps3 arent worth crap …
went you add all the BS together I think you can get a clear image …
on any system, GTA4 is the best game this year and both versions are pretty much the same ( since DLC cant be reviwed before it comes out, it could be great and could be almost nothing)
“My system also RROD’d shortly after playing it so I have to send it in to Microsoft for repairs. Luckily, I have seen enough to make a judgment on the game and our review will reflect that accordingly.”
I predicted that SDF would have to pull this LIE in order to make a review for the same game grossly different for two systems. You are getting much much too predictable SDF.
and bemani games still own everything you guys are playing.
Well nice delete on me there pussy forum guards.
Let me say it again. I predicted SDF would trash the 360 version, fabricate tons of info, and claim RROD. So far I am 100% correct.
Oh and if you seriously take these idiots seriously. They claim to have recieved the game a week ago and yet managed to get in OVER 560 HOURS OF GAME TIME AS OF YESTERDAY. FYI THATS OVER 23 DAYS STRAIGHT. Impressive, who knew these total fanbois could warp space and time to justify their 600 dollar movie player.
I have gotten soo sick of this arguement, that i will do 2 things about it. One NEVER BUY a PS3, and I will buy the 360 version of GTA today.
the ps3 version will always be the best version of any game, the 360 cant even compete with the ps3
