Gears 2 looks awesome. Not quite gawpzone 2 (seeing as gawping over graphics is the only real reason you’d get KZ2) but still a good step up, bit like Resistance 2, which is a far better game then gawpzone 2 could ever hope to be. Bring on the Locust!
In other, more interesting news then graphical dick waving: Codemasters have aquired the Formula 1 license since Sony droped it after about 4-5 years. After playing the demo of upcoming GRID on 360, I trust Codemasters can deliever something both graphically pleasing and fun to play for all consoles, so you PS3 fanboys arn’t going to miss out.
Gears 2 looks sub-par. Same engine we have become so use to it just lacks any sort of punch.
While Killzone 2 brakes down the wall and shows all developers that an in house engine is better in every single way.
Once again, the SDF drives home an excellently supported conclusion based solely upon the comparison of two very unappealing ladies trying to look sexy or diseased, I can’t decide. One things for sure, if that picture is any indication of KZ2, we’re bound to see Star Trek cameos in abundance in the form of Vulcans chicks with bad taste. Highly illogical if you ask me.
Hate to double post, but has anybody other than me noticed that the logo the SDF has adopted is an asscrab?

GoW2 will rape the shit outta KZ2 in terms of gameplay. Why are almost all PS3 games hyped about graphics and turn out to be shit?
KZ2 is just like anouther FPS shooter with pretty graphics. GoW actually introduced some concepts that have been implemented seriously well, such as its fantastic cover system and sweet multiplayer.
And guess what KZ2 offers?

What? None of the games is out yet or have I missed the release of two of the biggest sequals?
As much as I find Epic’s games to be “Meh…”, Guerilla has yet to make a game that was good enough to be “Meh…”.
Also SDF, it seems as of late that you’ve only been able to rely on doctored or low-res screenies, as another poster pointed out. Oh, and guys, I heard a rumor that SDF is shutting down soon.

I see SDF is still on its little run of passing off screenshots of games from the 360 from a video being run on a low resolution as though it were an actual screenshot. Its as paper thin as when they used the blur filter on the screenshot of GTA4 on the PS3 and tried to pass it off as a 360 screenshot.
Furthermore, graphics? So what. If Gears of War 2 has superior gameplay to Killzone 2 then Gears of War 2 wins. Sorry graphics whores, yet again Gameplay > graphics. Sorry to you P(ixar)S3 fans.

GoW is just another 3rd person shooter with a cover system that we have seen before (Rainbow 6 series), but it managed to be fun even though it had problems (espescially the big dickheads that will kick you for saying “hows it going” that play online). Also it never tried to be a “halo killer” and that was a good thing as well.
The main problem with Killzone is for the fact that guerilla games haven’t made a truely excellent game yet where EPIC Games have made good to great games and they have proven themselves to gamers where the earlier hasen’t.
I hope KZ2 will be different and the problems of the first game have been fixed but there’s no way to know untill the game is released if it will be any good. I guess only time well tell.

I’m sure they made the fat dude in Gears move so slow because it made the levels seem bigger. How fat and slow is he gonna be this time?

Now thats comparing apples to oranges. If you’re going to compare those two then Gears looks far better than echochrome by more than a mile. A more fair comparison would be between Echochrome and N+. Both have a minimalistic look to them but both (i would assume) echochrome and N+ are fun games. If doing a comparison between two games at least put them in the same league of games and not a blanket comparison.

Doom looks terrible by today’s standards, but it’s still an absolute blast to play. Great gameplay means more than great graphics.
Now now, kids. I know I haven’t shown my face since revealing the horrible if not slightly amusing fact that Paul has no aversion to asscrabbing. (Which he never made a response to. Damn… there’s a rare sight… Paul speechless.) But joking aside, let’s be honest. It doesn’t matter which side you’re on, hyping a game you haven’t played puts you in the same group as all the Halo fanboys who were ready to throw themselves in front of a bus to get it early. You don’t know what it’s like yet, you haven’t played it. If we’re going purely by the facts presented thus far, and nothing else, there’s still not enough data to go by.
In short, look forward to your respective game, tell people about it, and keep an eye on development news, but fer the luvva freck, don’t beat people over the head with it. I’ve seen Heaven’s Gate enthusiasts, and southern baptist evangelists with less fervor than some of you.

This is one of the Angry Videogame Nerd videos (actually he used to be the Angry Nintendo Nerd but nintendo didn’t like that at all).
Despite not being a big fan of Gears of War, I found the gameplay a bit boring though I find most cover system games kind of boring unless it’s a tactical game like Rainbow Six Vega and Vegas 2 which did pretty good on the cover system, letting you throw grenades, and other throwable objects around corners over objects, and just drop behind the wall you’re hiding behind rather than throw. Gears of War is just one of those hyped up games I couldn’t care if it even existed or not, similar to Halo series and Metal Gear Solid, I couldn’t care less if either of them existed or not, in fact most likely would be a better world if they didn’t. lol
To be honest why do they have motion blur on these games anyways? I turn them off on PC games, they feel less realistic to me, and also make me feel sick, if not get a headache after playing with all the blurred objects, my eyes try to focus to see a clear image, but can’t. lol
Motion blurr makes me kinda sick, so I also turn it off. It looks mroe realistic with it on though, I mean turn your head really fast, what happens? Blurr.

From the start of, i think Killzone looks graphically superior (not from SDF, trailers and screenshots etc) Ones from the Playstation Day which arent touched up aswell. i am not going to compare gameplay because neither have been released. However, from vg charts, Killzone was released on a PS2 when there was over a 50million install base. Gear Of War when there was less than 15million. Surely from the sales when 1/3 360 owners bought Gears of War, surely this tells you which WAS the better game.

Thanks for that, it seems the Irate Gamer really has ripped off the AVGN, right down to giving the console the finger when he’s pissed, still funny though. But personally I could never give my console the finger as I have too much respect for it, you’ll understand when you have an amazing Ps3 of your own.
Watching all these NES and SNES vids reminds me of the old days when I was an xboxer, I think you’re right to say the SNES is more fun than 360, but the graphics and sound are about on par.

The slight whirring from the cd tray is the only, albeit little, noise that comes from the 360. Unless your talking about the sound that comes from the speakers on the tv. But don’t let that scare you little one, its like that from design.

Yes, the noise from the disc drive, which is the only real discernible sound that comes from the 360. That is unless you rest your head on the system like a pillow when you play.

I have to KINDA agree with Paul; the 360 is noisy and unreliable (THE OLDER MODELS NOT SO MUCH THE NEWER ONES). I wouldn’t go far as to call it “junk” though; when I think of junk I think of the Virtual Boy.

No shit there! I had an Atari system that was over 30 years old! It finally died. But DAMN, those were built like tanks!
Stuff doesn’t last long these days and I’ve had more than my fair share of early quitters: CD/DVD players, Amps, TVs, but I was not ready for the 360 experience. My first lasted 4 months, it took 6 weeks to receive a refurb which was even louder until it died after 2 months.

I think stuff lasts long enough, if you treat it right. I had one 360 that RROD’ed after the guitar hero II update (which massacred many others) and my younger brothers also RROD’ed from the same thing, nowadays, we avoid putting guitar hero 2 in, and our systems have been fine (I hope I didn’t just jinx myself.) futhermore, it sits between two computer monitors, so you can guess how much heat it generates, especially since there is a bunk sitting right above it. Also, while I will admit the 360 is loud, it’s hardly anything after you have it for 2 moths or so; you usually will zone it out in the middle of a game. The only things that break in my house are shitty sansa products and old CD players.
So I’m pretty sure you can also tell I am a hardcore 360 owner, I’m by no means hateful towards the PS3 and I don’t see why anyone should be hateful to any other system. I’m watching MGS and MGO right now, its slowly enticing me, but just as well, the new Gears coming out is just as much. I was skeptical at first, and still am, about the PS3, but I will not deny the awesomeness coming out in the next half year for it, and if I put the money together, may get it.

MGS4 is awesome. I played the demo back at E For All, and it was a true next-gen experience. Which both systems have been lacking. I’m so happy I have a PS3.

And the 360. As has been shown time and time again the graphical differences between the PS3 and a 360 is negligible. As I own a 360, yes I know what current gen graphics look like.

Same goes for any game. Just look at those Gears 2 pics floating around, there is no proof that it’s not a CG cut scene. But then again Gears has the advantage in that they didn’t pass off CG as Game play footage the last time around, so I’m more apt to believe them.
Ubisoft wants me to believe them that Red Steel 2 is gonna look as good as they say it will, I’ll need hard evidence, as the first game didn’t look as good as those “Screen shots” they released. The game still played fine, but the looks weren’t as good as promised!

You can’t take anyone who says that seriously. They obviously haven’t seen the footage of the E3 2007 demo or the 2008 Playstation Day demo. The game is using a deferred rendering engine which specifically allows them to have hundreds of light sources throughout a level. The shadow maps are crisp, not dithered; they’re soft and diverse depending on context; not static and completely dark under all conditions. They allow for light rays to shine through volumetric smoke beautifully, as well as cast one of the best looking lens flare effects I’ve ever seen in a game. KZ2 boasts of the most impressive lighting and shadows of any game I’ve ever seen.
I will concede that Gears of War 2 uses more memory specifically for textures than Killzone 2. Gears is a master at one trade. Killzone 2 is a master at many. The use of textures in Killzone 2 is done well, it’s not done in order to say “here’s superfluous detail we couldn’t create with geometry and looks totally out of place”. Look at everything in Gears. Everything is covered in unneccessary lines and patterns. Killzone 2 looks and moves like CG. I liken it to a “natural beauty”. Gears, in comparison, is the bimbo bitch with gigantic fake tits, fake tan, and dyed blonde hair. Some people like that look, but it comes off as being far too pretentious and gaudy. It tries too hard, and neglects many other important aspects in the process.

I WORK with CG on a daily basis, I know what does what! Rendering Engine != Lighting system. Rendering engines handle how the final shading, AA, and other POST EFFECTS are handled, NOT lightingm lighting is handled by the 3d engine itself. They are two different things. Get a clue! I’m not sure if I’m the only one here who doesn’t know how these games are made, or if I’m simply the only one who’ll admit. I’ve done some research though, and I’ve found that Killzone 2 uses something called a Ps3, while Gears of Bore 2 uses something called a 360. Common sense should tell you that Killzone 2>Gears of Bore 2, hope I didn’t get too technical for anyone.

@erik – It’s funny how 360 kids think that the 360 is as powerful as the mighty PS3. The only reason you have seen multi-platform games look the same, or better on the 360 is because they used the 360 as the lead platform, so when you try to port it to a machine that works completely different from the 360, you end up with 360 quality graphics.
But that is changing my friend, as more and more developers are now using the PS3 as the lead platform.
Your 360 can’t do what my PS3 can do.
In it’s first year it pumped out Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank and Heavenly Sword, which look freakin’ amazing. I remember reading how many reviewers questioned wether or not Uncharted or those other games could be made on the 360.
And now we have GTP and MGS4, which freakin’ look amazing as well.
Let’s not forget your machine is 16 months older, and our exclusive games already look better.
You will start to notice the difference between our two machines when God of War 3, FF13 and Killzone 2 come out.

May I just say that both games look rather fantastic, and that there is no need to try and crucify the “other” side just because they happen to own a differing piece of hardware?

Oh seriously stop with the GTA superiority/inferiority complex, old news everyone, the game is out, we’re all playing it. Secondly, as a counterpoint of Hans stating that Killzone is a master at many, while Gears suceeds in one area, I must point out that I saw little actual player battles in the Killzone 2 videos, even the one before Playstation day seemed tempered and underwhelming in fights. Killzone has amazing lighting and environments, but it is in no way a master…yet. One of the most important things in a game is the player actually rising to the challenge and fighting his way through the game, and at least so far as they’ve shown, it fails in that respect, the game seems to play itself. Gears has a certain balance within the game that I like, it forces you to play through the game through tactics, the battles require brains, patience, and tactics, and while I won’t say that Killzone 2 won’t have these attributes, it certainly needs to work on these things, at least to garner up to the ‘master at many’ status. Furthermore, I can vehemently argue the fact that the details in Gears are superfluous, I believe that they are only seen as such because we fail to realize in real life how much detail there is in everything. Is a rock having several jagged edges in real life superfluous? No, because everything has detail. People just aren’t used to seeing it in a videogame, and we therefore pay more attention to it.

If I had to choose between KZ2 or GoW2; it would be GoW2. The reasoning for that answer is simple really: Gears of War was a helluva lot more fun than Killzone. So simple reasoning was behind that answer.
BTW KZ2 looks like its got potential (just like the first one) and I hope it is a damn fine game in the end.

Killzone 2 plays great.
The main part of any FPS is the gunplay, and that’s what KZ2 excels at. The guns control, animate, and give feedback perfectly. The shooting is very rewarding in Killzone 2.
I’d rather play Uncharted than Gears of War, as Gears of War is far too slow in terms of the movement of the characters, and the close quarters combat is a joke.
I get the feeling that Hans hasn’t played Gears.

I started looking at this site, at first honestly trying to find some information on the PS3 games and such, but what I find more, is squabbling about the 360. I know this is a “personal” blog, but if you really want to defend Sony, can’t you just talk about the PS3′s skills as mature adults?
I’m a lucky lil guy here, because I have access to all the three major consoles here (due to roommates) so I like reading up on everything. I’ve noticed each system has strengths and weaknesses. And what gets me excited about PS3, is the Japanese titles. Some that I may not be able to play on my 360.
Graphically, the PS3 has the potential to blow the 360 out of the water, due to it’s power. Has it reached it yet? No. Games look so similar. The graphics difference is nearly nil. The main thing I’ll give the PS3 is it’s control pad. It does run better than 360′s. But most don’t even use it anymore.
All you guys crying PS3 as the winner, please don’t just bash. Provide evidence. You want people on your side right? Show them unbiased evidence. Want to compare graphics? Don’t doctor the 360′s graphics. It only shows you have a lack of faith in your system, when you feel the need to “cheat”
I’ve seen a lot of games, for both systems, and honestly, the game that impressed me the most graphically, was Bioshock. The opening footage, was just so impressive, with the beautiful water, and the complete effects were great in my opinion. The Killzone footage does look impressive, but doesn’t “wow” me like Bioshock did. But they ARE nice, don’t get me wrong. They look beautiful, though I fear, like most, that these are really CG. I don’t know honestly, I haven’t played it. I’m only a regular Joe.
I’m getting off point, but I think both sides here, should be civil on this. Each time you replace a systems name with some “clever” retort, or replace S with a $ you’re weakening your argument. Just be civil, believe me, your argument will be that much stronger.

I don’t know if you know this, but North America is the only region that has outsold the PS3. Not even with the huge price cut can it outsell the PS3 in Europe.

Little Big Fail, Resistance 2 and K2 (Both suck) Home (big deal, even if it gets here) and MGS4 (CGI Craptacular) will not save POS3. Hell, POS3 gets it’s ass kicked by the Wii and DS every month (supposedly where Phony and POS3 rules, not)! Here in the US, it’s in last place, right where it should be for an expensive movie player.

The GEBBIYMPFT has a 500gig hard drive, a disc drive that can read all forms of media including crap that hasen’t been invented yet, the processor is called the HIVE which is 100000000000x more powerful than the CELL and it has more system RAM then anything before it. To put it simply it makes the 360, Wii, and PS3 look like toys.

Does suck that the PS3 is in a shortage, it’s selling pretty good resently despite it, which I guess shows Sony wasn’t all that ready for a big sales jump, they finally fell behind in supply, of all kinds, gamestop and Walmart the only two stores in my town that sell PS3s are out of stock which suprised me today when I went to the story to see if they had a Wii on shelf, since I got my PS3 the Wii was next on my list, but sadly darn Wiis are always out of stock here. 360 had 2 arcades, 4 normals and 1 elite on shelf still at Walmart alone.

Huh. I don’t see why everyone is getting so angry about a video game. From what it looks like, Killzone 2 looks amazing, but I’ve seen videos of it in action, and it looks exactly like CoD4 minus the intensity. Graphics don’t make a game. Gears of War was pretty fun, and I’m fine if they keep the core gameplay the same and just add stuff on. I’m looking forward to playing it, especially the new story. I’m willing to bet that if tomorrow Epic announced that Gears of War 2 would be for both the 360 and the PS3, the fanboys in here would jump all over it, touting how the PS3 would somehow make it much better than the 360 version.
Oh well. This is a pretty fun site. I just have one question though.
How come in EVERY article, they claim to be “fair and unbiased,” yet their name is Sony Defense Force? That makes sense if it is a troll site, and if it is, its an incredibly well put together one. But if its real, and the authors are sincere, do they have some sort of mental deficiency?
LOL you people must seriously be getting desperate. I don’t think these fuckwits are considering the gameplay elements that makes Killzone 2 a “perfect” game. There are so many games out there with great graphics but horrible gameplay and it results in a FLOP! They don’t even have a fucking release date for Killzone 2 yet. As far as I know, SDF is only taking their “information” from the trailers and screenshots.
now i saw killzone 2 being played on Playr and….. it looked like shit
the A.I sucked, it was boring, the guns didn’t seem to do much damage, or look good and the whole thing looked boring and slow.
i never thought Killzone 2 was gonna be any good but the playthrough i saw confirmed it. Its gonna suck
u cant even compare these games, gears 2 looks like an elephant took a shit on the screen while playing it and killzone 2 look photorealistic
