Breaking: In-Game XMB confirmed for 2.4

We’ve finally received word that the long awaited, and much rumored, PlayStation 3 Firmware Update 2.40 is indeed the real deal and is said to be coming relatively soon. Many of the most requested features, such as a universal friends list and in-game messaging will be included, in addition to a few rather nice surprises (*cough*soundtracks*cough*). We definitely can’t divulge all of the details, but trust us, it’s coming.
We aren’t yet 100% sure of the actual release date, but all signs point to sometime in June. We’re guesing that Sony will probably detail 2.40 in the coming weeks.
Just how many times is SDF going to say “It begins”? Yeah, we’re still waiting.
“It begins” is the “Believe” of SDF. Stooping down to Halo 3′s level, SDF?
Also, this actually reminds me of some of their July 2007 articles. They didn’t even bash another system, just commented on what’s coming to the PS3.
I’m waiting for SDF to say how Sony’s update is totally revolutionary and unique when they’ve ripped Microsoft off bloodily

When 1,200,000 people signed into Halo 3, the servers carried on without so much as a judder.

How often are there firmware updates for the PS3? It just seems there’s a new update every other week. Not that its going to sway me away from buying a PS3; I’m just curious.

and this is news because!?! I think when it said “We are not yet 100% sure of the actual release” sort of means Sony have no idea when it’s released.
Also, how is this news when you are playing catch up to a so called “inferior online service” (quoting SDF there).
Just remember me when I’m away for the next week playing Ninja Gaiden II… A game Sony owners wont be able to play for a long time if not ever.

In my 5 months as an awesome Ps3er, there’s been about 4 updates, but you need to take into consideration its multfunctionalityness, there was an update for blu-ray live or something and another which helped it to finally cure cancer…Stickemup will prolly give you a more accurate and sensible answer but I didn’t wanna leave you hangin.

Gotta love this site. They have a few catch phrases in addition to “it begins,” such as “definitive version” and “vastly inferior.” Still, they HAVE been avoiding Haze. I guess it was so bad that not even SDF could spin it. I know that this is a troll site, and in all likelihood the authors all own 360s and laugh at everyone that takes them seriously, but the PSN, having been touted as superior in all aspects to Live, is basically being updated to be a replica of Live. Not that there is anything wrong with that, Live is a great online service and it is smart to copy it. But how would it be superior just because its free? Sure, its free, but because Live costs, they have a much bigger budget to improve and maintain it. PSN is at a disadvantage right from the start because they don’t charge.
Eh, just felt like ranting. I don’t have anything against any console, just against rabid fanboys.
Also, “award winning video game coverage since 2006″? What awards has SDF ever won? Best Troll Website?

1. You are not fooling anyone for a second that you’re playing MGS4 since you’re not a part of the gaming press.
2. How come do I see ads when theres banners that say “ad free. unbiased. real talk”. I guess this site is as bad as 1up now.

@ColdYellow – Well to tell you the truth. It’s pretty often. Not like every other week, but every month 1/2 or so, not sure. The thing about them is that they aren’t necessary. I’ve skipped a couple myself.
There’s been a few that don’t really do much.

LOL, Breaking News, the Xbox has done this for the last 6yrs, and it’s now only just coming to the PS3. Which BTW, it has been rumoured, not confirmed, but you will beleive any old shit Sony say so it must be true.
The PS3 is STILL an Epic Phail console, even after almost 2yrs of release. It took almost 2 yrs to finally have a must have game with MGS4 (which Hans has definatly NOT played), and even then it’s a 3rd party game that could easily be released for the 360 in 6 months.
This may seem a bit of a daft question, but if XBox Live is so inferior to PSN (as we’re told so often here) why are Sony making a fuss about a firmware update that’s about to arrive and kick the already crap XBL in the ‘nads?
Is it because Sony themselves know PSN is shite, and they’ve got catching up to do? In the event of that being true, it also means that (gasp!) SDF have done what any true fanboy would do, and insisted that their system was better from the beginning, while Sony themselves knew otherwise?

Isn’t in game XMB/friendslist something Sony has been promising in the “next” firmware update for over a year now?
Surely something like this is something that should have been shipped with the PS3?
Although in an interview Sony themselves just before the PS3 came out said that only “certain segments, of a certain audience” would like to play games online.
How wrong he was, which is why XBL is the leading online service for consoles.

Don’t say that, the fools at SDF think it will fill 4-40 discs! Although I pointed out a perfectly good explanation why it will be 1-2 discs…

true that. MGS4 would easily fit onto a DVD9 disc. Look at PC games, and how much better they are to console ames, yet not one still tops a DVD9.
The reason Bluray uses up so much space is because it reads at 2x speed only, requiring the same data to be printed over and over. Nothing more.
When MGS4: Substance hits the 360 in like 6-12 months and is updated, everyone will know the truth and laugh at SDF too.
Got to love how SDF wank over stuff the Xbox was doing 5 YEARS ago. All this should have been incorparated from the go, not 2 years after.
Instead of “It begins”, shouldn’t they be saying “It installs”?
