Blu-Ray Vindicated yet Again: Microsoft Resorts to 2 DVDs for Forza 3

Microsoft continues to show why they’re the laughing stock of the industry. Forza 3 is scheduled to appear sometime next year, but unfortunately it will be appearing on 2 discs. It’s going to be fun listening to the horde of Xbox fanatics that will justify switching discs mid-way through a race.

Perhaps someone should have notified Microsoft that they should be progressive with their design by implementing an industry standard Blu-Ray drive with the Xbox 360 instead of the archaic DVD standard they embraced for their premature next-gen system.

    This is hilarious, SDF is desperate for news, eh?

    How bout’ them MGS4 installs? I was so bored while waiting for about 16 minutes of installs total, it disrupted my gaming experience much like these discs.

    What is the difference though, between a disc change during a race and an install during the race?

  2. Haha, you know that SDF is always desperate for news and when they do find something they blow it out of proportion.

    I can’t comment on the 16 minute install with MGS4 but, as a PC gamer as well as a console gamer that has a PS3, game installs don’t bother me one bit. The worst install I ever had was Far Cry, it was 6 discs I believe and took over 30 min, close to 45 minutes to install the whole game, UT04 was a long ass install as well(5 discs I think), before they came out with the DVD version, which yes I bought when they released it =). I eventually made images of all the discs for Far Cry, and when I installed Far Cry using the images, install time was less than 10 min hehe =) So, as for installations for PS3 games, STOP BITCHING! They are not going to go away and are actually there to make your gaming experience better, not worse. It’s only one time for the install, why is it such a big deal? Oh yeah, that’s right, people make up crappy pages saying how much game time you can get in if it wasn’t for the install, BS. Get up and do something productive while it installs and when you get back you can play the game and never have to worry about that install ever again.

    OK, now to talk about Forza 3. I think this pic is Photoshopped because I can’t believe for 1 second that a game would make you switch discs in the middle of a race. Anyone remember GT and GT2 for the PS? One disc was Arcade and the other was the Simulation disc. As for Forza, I think it is about the same way, just needed 2 discs to fit all the tracks. I bet one disc is for the “Story” Mode and the other disc is for the Arcade/Multiplayer aspect. I am not positive on the Forza discs, just my speculation.

    @Ninsonysoft: What is the difference though, between a disc change during a race and an install during the race?

    I think you had a little trouble wording this correctly. You never INSTALL anything when you are actually playing the game, if there is an install you have to do it BEFORE you play the game, though some games give you the option whether to or not, UT3 being one of them for the PS3. As for changing a disc DURING a race, I don’t believe it, that would be the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

    If SDF really didn’t make up that pic about inserting disc 2 in the middle of a race(going to look this up after my post) then I feel really sorry for Xbox owners. A disc change IN THE MIDDLE of a race, that is just horrid.

    Well, I do have to say that multiple discs will hurt the Xbox a little bit in the long run but most people will not care. It’s only a disc change, FFVII anyone?

    @Telzon

    MGS4 does just that though, you have to install it 5 times total throughout the game, sort of like how in MGS1 it just randomly went, “OK CHANGE TEH DISC NAOW”

  4. OK, I did a quick search and found out the real reason it’s on 2 discs. The game has OVER 400 cars and 100 tracks. It almost seems like the game should have been on more discs =) But, besides that this isn’t a huge issue, but since it’s SDF, they have to prove there PS3 purchase.

    I actually like this quote from a guy on Joystiq from the link below:
    http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/15/survey-forza-3-to-require-2-dvds-over-400-cars-and-100-tracks/

    “Im sure by the end of ps3s life span, we will see a game with 2 blu-rays.”

    And you know what, he is probably right. I can’t wait for the day that there is a game that is on 2 BDs, what will SDF say then?

    Also, I find it hilarious that Paul’s description of how the disc change would go is exactly what this picture is.

    I think your speculation about Forza 3 would be pretty accurate. In the history of racing games switching discs during a race would just ruin the game completly.

    @erik

    So you said you like MGS1-3, but still you shit all over 4? For fucks sake I even want to know what happens to snake and I don’t give a shit if it is on the PS3. You have NO creditablity to even back up why you don’t like MGS4 at all. The only damn thing you can say “its on the PS3 and I don’t want that shit on the 360″. Dude your fucking lame.

    Look at EscapeTheFate’s last comment for the last article. Damn, he is good! If I find some good articles, will you write satire on those? Please?Although no one is stupid enough to believe that you will have to switch discs halfway through, these supertrolls will definitely spark heated arguments. SDF are my heroes.

    Telzon, look at MGS4. They have installs littered throughout the game, how is that in any way worse than having to swtich discs?

  8. It begins.

    @Nirvana09

    You’re right, they forgot to include It Begins.

  10. I haven’t be able to look at MGS4, I already said that in my first post =)

    But I just did a search and you are right, MGS4 has 4 extra mini-installs before each of the acts, I didn’t know this, can range from 1-3 minutes. I actually think this is worse than having to switch a disc, switching a disc takes 10 sec, but having to wait 3 min before playing an Act, that isn’t to bad but still a little ehhh to me. Though, at least it’s loading every Act, the only thing I didn’t like about HL and HL2 is the loading in the middle of something, like turning a corner and then, oh, it has to load. I would rather load a couple levels then have it load part of the level every 5 min. I understand this is to keep you in the story, but for me it takes a little out of it.

    “an industry standard Blu-Ray drive”
    So when did blu-ray become the industry standard? All the commercials I see for movies that are being released to retail always say something on the lines of ,”coming tuesday to Dvd and high definition blu-ray”. I know this might sound like nit-picking but the truth is that DVD is still the standard. Even the placement of saying DVD then blu-ray is significant for the fact that it’s still marketed (and pushed) towards dvd owners and blu-ray is kinda of the after thought. Basically what I’m saying is that the movie studios are going to cater to the majority (dvd) more than they are going to cater to the minority (blu-ray).
    I want a PS3 for its games and the blu-ray movies is a plus, but truth be told I will still end up buying DVDs because there cheaper and all the “special features” i couldn’t give a shit about.

  15. I actually have to agree with SDF with Blu-Ray being the new “industry standard” for HD content. I don’t think DVD9 discs will be completely phased out for another 5+ years or even 10, but to get any type of HD content, whether it be a movie or game, Blu-Ray will be your only choice, besides downloading it. I don’t think you will see 50GB downloads for some years because of the rate of internet connection speeds.

    I live in San Jose, CA and Comcast in the bay area is the fastest Comcast have to offer which is 16Mbps, but doing speed tests multiple times on speedtest.net, I have an 18Mb connection. Full 1080p movies run at 50Mbps, most today run around 20-30 on BD, but as you can see downloading a movie even at 18Mbps, would still take you hours because 18Mbps is a little over 1MBps.

  16. Hehe SDF is so bad.

    100 tracks? Wow. I’ve never really cared about the amount of cars (I usually stick to a few I really like) but that’s really impressive if it’s true.

    @ColdChimera (Hehe) – Dude I really wish you could play MGS4. There are moments in there that are too awesome for words. The third act was a bit lacking (the boss fight was awesome though), but only because the ones before it have been so incredibly good.

    Also, there are moments that the character models (during the cut-scenes) look almost as good, or as good as the visuals in the FF7 movie. The amount of detail of the characters from head to toes is staggering. Never seen anything even close to it. If you view snake through the camo section, and spin him around (like in MGS3) his clothes look almost like you can actually reach out and feel them.

    Being able to play in FPS makes the game so much better too. I wish more games did it that way. I love exploring a world in third-person, but shooting in first is better sometimes.

  17. I just realized that I always end up talking about MGS4, regardless of the topic. Sorry guys.

  18. PlayItBogart Says:

    I don’t mind three minutes of install every three hours. If anything it gives you a chance to use the bathroom or whatever you’ve been neglecting because of MGS4′s awesomeness.

  19. Ninsonysoft Says:

    I logged into the middle of Act 1 during my second play-through, and I had to go through a 2 minute install. Odd.

    @Stick

    I agree with you man, MGS4 is unbelieveable. I agree with you on the fact that Act 3 was lacking, it felt short to me, but I prefer third-person over-the-shoulder shooting to MGS4′s first person. The recoil and iron sights can get annoying at some times.

    @Infrared

    You ever have any reason why you changed your name from ColdYellow?

  20. Good job Forza 3 is on the 360 then, if it was on the PS2.5 it would require at least a 3 day install.

    Like ive said before, NO game takes 50gb of space or anywhere near that figure. Because Bluray reads at 2x speeed only, PS2.5 games must be layered over and over to prevent long loading times, and also the reason that a installation is required to. So it would be fair to say that MGS4 would fit onto a DVD9 disc and any other game that is released on the PS2.5 could easily be too.

    But one things for sure, i’d prefer the 2 discs over long installation times all day long. Takes the average gamer all of 20 secs tops to swap over a disc, wheer as it takes the average gamer 20mins to start actually playing a game on the PS2.5. Go figure.

    We don’t mind switching a disc every 3 hours. And it’ll never be in the middle of a race as SDF suggests.

  23. I have a post in moderation that suggests it could be half-way through the Nurburg ring. The online races are gonna be frantic! Who can swap discs the fastest? It kinda cool really, a whole new element to online racing.

    Also, I now own a 360. That’s how hard you fail.

  26. I highly doubt that you will have to switch discs in the middle of a race. Get a clue SDF.

    @InfaredChimera

    First off, what the fuck? How can you respond to me when I haven’t even commented in this thread yet.

    “The only damn thing you can say “its on the PS3 and I don’t want that shit on the 360″.”

    That pretty much covers it. Well that and the fact that Kojima went ape shit with the CG garbage. But the PS3′s design creedo of style over substance could likely corrupt developers quite easily.

    Slimster

    Do some research once in a while. a 2X Blu-ray disk read is NOT the same as a 2X DVD read speed. 2X BD disk speed is about equivalent to a +16X DVD read speed. While I do believe that MGS4 could be crammed into less than 50gb, you have to consider that some of the cutscenes over half an hour long. So yeah, the cutscenes themselves would take more space than a DVD disk. The install times are not “20 minutes”, they’re about 4-5 minutes.

  28. The Xbox 360 is complete garbage.

    PS3 owns.

    Metal Gear Solid 4 is the best game ever.

  29. Praetorian_Man,

    you should do some research some time too. The majority of all cutscenes are “in-game” and contain no more then animation data. Which takes up to little to no space compared to a HD movie. Face it, Blu-Ray was designed to hold the huge file sizes of uncompressed HD footage. I can almost guarantee that if you took out the opening “TV sequence” which is all video files, it would remove 30-60% of the total file size on disk.

    And not to mention, i would have much rather swap disks then deal with the “install” BS that the PS3 is obsessed with. Its stupid as all hell that you have to install every time you want to play threw a different chapter… Yes, that means that on your 2nd time through you will have to reinstall… changing disks is > even a 1 min install

  30. And yes, Blu-Ray is the industry standard for HD MOVIES. Blu-Ray does nothing for games, get over it, Sony didn’t Include Blu-Ray to help its video games, they did it because they are a larger TV/DVD player manufacture. What better way to push your product then force it on the entire gaming community that is interested in the PS3.

  31. That photoshop is really sad.
    The text isn’t even centered.
    And isn’t this just a rumor?

  32. And to continue my rant on how PS3 is nothing more then Sony taking advantage of the PS fanbase, i will list why

    1) The PS3 in no way markets to the online gaming comunity, if anything it hurts it… to include Wi-Fi may be “ideal” for anybody that plays online casualy, but to anybody intrested in it, it hurts… Wi-Fi imo makes up for 90% of the laggy gamers that play on PS3. And not to mention from my experiance only a very very small % of people that own a PS3 also own a microphone (i would say as small as 5% to10% or 1 out of 10 people or 1 out of 20)

    2) The PS3 interface is nothing more then a re-hased PSP interface, and is in no way Benifical to the gamer.

    3) The web browser that the PS3 has is nothing more then trash, and just reflects how Unfinshed the PS3 feals.

    4) The GPU in the PS3 is also nothing more then another rushed feature. The GPU was originally designed to be another Cell procesor, but sony gave up more or less and just bought a 7xxx from ATI to throw in there machine.

    5) lack of support for Sixaxis, and complete withdraw of rumble just hurts. And then with no plan to replace current existing controllers is just sad :( at least when Microsoft met RROD they extended their warranty by 2 years, and gave free replacements. Where Sony does not even want to replace their mistake of their controller.

    6) No need for 900 USB ports, and a card reader

    7) Sony continues to rely on the future to redeem their product. The only thing keeping the PS3 competing is the obvious bias towards PS3 in Japan and other countries (which has nothing to do with the actual hardware or games)

    8) Install times on PS3 are inexcusable. And in GTAIV case, make no since when load times are barley affected by the install compared to the 360. If anything it just shows how powerful the 360 is when comparing the 2.

    So imo, the PS3 is nothing more then a trash can filled with acid, with a few good pecies of food inside, but get burnt by all the acid sarounding them.

    PS. MGS4 is amazing and by far the most complete game ever made… too bad its stuck on, and the only purchasing point of the PS3 (only reason i bought one)

  33. forgot to list another crappy thing…

    8) The ps3′s emulation software/hardware is crap :( i have lost saves from the vertual memory cards due to coruption, and just the emulations is horable… for proof throw in MGS3 and fight the Fury… slow down fest

    (and yes, i played all the metal gears before i played 4 :P )

  34. And the fact that SDF’s only way of combating the Xbox is by throwing a immature/uneducated Blu-Ray jab is nothing more then PS3 fanboyism. Next they will argue that the buying factor of the PS3 is the web-browser and Card reader.

  35. JerzeyLegend Says:

    Forza 3 will not be on multiple disc. It contains no cutscenes, all cinemas are intros, that don’t take up any space.
    Even with an expansive vehicle list, it will not be on more than one disc. You people take your rumors to the extreme. This is indeed a fanboy site.

    Xbox 360 will be adapting Blu-Ray to future consoles, they are just afraid to admit it. It will be a costly move, but they will benefit from it in the long run. Once MS goes Blu-Ray, what will you Sony fanboys do then? What will your so called super system have over the XBox 360? Processing power? Maybe, but none of the developers using PS3 have even begun to tap it. It involves more money, more time, more development. Once MS goes Blu-Ray or if they find another medium for games storage, then PS3 sales will fail.

    Yes I admit, internally PS3 is an amazing system. However it’s next gen, and were not ready for next gen. The current gen is still not over. PS3 lacks titles. MSG4, Heavenly Sword, R&C, GT5 prolouge, HAZE. That’s about it. Hmmm… GOW, Forza 2, Halo 3, GTA IV [everyone knows its better on XBox], Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Crackdown, SR, Dead or Alive, … in fact here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Xbox_360-only_games there’s a list of games…

    I wish Sony and MS would join forces, so I could see the fanboys on either side, crumble. Wake up, everyone should be enjoying every console. I have a Xbox 360, PC, Dreamcast, N64, and next week a PS3. Never a Wii tho, I don’t have the confidence to do some of that stuff.

    oh and here: http://www.vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=Wii&reg1=All&cons2=PS3&reg2=All&cons3=X360&reg3=All&start=39243&end=39607&weekly=1 a graph showing PS3, Wii, and XBox 360 sales.

  36. You have to admire the tenacity of the xbot. The more the truth hits home, the greater their refusal to accept it. Bravo!

  37. @ColdYellow – Really? That sucks, I was wondering why you changed it all of a sudden.

    Sometimes I kinda wish we had a one system industry. Then we could all enjoy these games, and all the trash talking would come from arguing who is the better gamer.

    @Paul is Funny – Stupid name, but anyway, don’t compare Forza to Motorstorm. They are completely different games.

    Motorstorm is good, but can greatly be improved upon, looks like they worked on the negatives with Pacific Rift.

    @fiffer86

    1) I don’t know about you, but I know for me and plenty of people it’s not practical to have our console in the same room as the router, or to stretch a 100ft cable across our homes. I’ve never had any serious lag problems on my end.

    2) How is the XMB not beneficial? The games are under Games, the videos are under Videos, and the settings are under Settings, and if you’re really advanced, the friends are under Friends. What’s not beneficial? Do you need it in Braile or large text?

    3) I don’t know about you, but when I want to surf the internet, I use a computer. The only time the PS3 browser gets mileage is if there’s good videos on YouTube and I have a pack of people.

    4) Is there a point in there somewhere?

    5) I personally don’t miss rumble. Plus I think it’s silly to compare replacing a peripheral to replacing the entire console. Of course if the system itself breaks then replacing THAT is to be expected. If MS came out with a shiny newer more awesome controller, would you scream at them to provide replacements for the old kind?

    6) You can never have too many USB ports on anything. But if you’re that concerned about USB ports mating and taking over the earth, there’s only two on the 40gb model.

    7) That and I suppose decent first/third party titles and blu-ray functionality and the lack of random system failure.

    8) Inexcusable? You can’t wait five minutes for a game to install? Do you work a 12 hour day or something

    9) Granted, I have heard stories about people losing their save files, but most of them involve people doing goofy things like saving directly to USB drives instead of the hard drive. I can understand copying saves off the PS3 and keeping them on a computer for future use (and free up space), but just saving normally to the HDD I can’t say I’ve had any problems.

    Well, OK. I have one complaint. I was knee deep in a car chase in Act 2 of MGS4 and coming out of the start menu the game just RESET. 40 minutes of gaming gone ;-;. Oh well, since by then I knew what to do, it was more like 10.

  47. @Paul

    The PS2 come out almost 8 years ago, the 360 came out 2 years ago. So thats not exactly a fair comparison.

    In hindsight, Sony has sold 46m PS2′s in that time, Microsoft has sold 20m 360′s. Go figure that one out.

    One thing that no one has mentioned is the colour of the most successful console (with the exception of the PS2), the most successful has always been a white console. NES, Amiga, SNES, PS1, 360, Wii.

  48. White is teh most successful colour (with the exception of Ps2)…classic.
    The 360 is currently selling the most each month (with the exception of the Wii and Ps3).
    360s are reliable (with the exception of the millions that aren’t).
    Gamers are smart (with the exception of xbots).

    Btw, I said it was an unfair comparison, that was kinda the whole point.

  49. @Paul

    The PS3 is selling the most each month, with the expection of the Wii (which is white). PS3 = 4m sold, Xbox 360 = 20m+ sold. I know fact isnt used much here, but here’s the Proof anyway = http://www.gamesradar.com/f/white-consoles-always-win/a-20080612101843831055

    PS3′s are just as unreliable, ive heard loads of people complain the Bluray breaks down or the Hdd is wiping itself out. Pretty on par i think. Only the first batch had reliability issures, not anymore, so the RROD can exactly be used in ur defense now.

    Gamers are smart, 20m+ Wii’s and 360′s sold, 4m PS3′s sold. Gamers must be smart. Of the 4m PS3′s sold even u know that only 100,000 were sold purely for gaming, the 3,900,000 were sold as it was the cheapest Bluray player at the time by moive fans.

    Paul, you make “unfair comparisons” and comments on all consoles all the time. How is the PS3 vastly superior in every way? If it was, wouldn’t it have destroyed the 360 in sales before the release of its main console seller (MGS4)? Face it, the 360 and PS3 are comparable in every way. It makes you a PS3 fanboy to claim differently.

  54. I’m nothing but fair in my appraisal of all consoles, I ain’t about to unfairly judge the 360 as satisfactory just because I happened to buy one. Like I said before…I am a realist, and I can admit when I’ve made a mistake, you should too.

    Don’t worry Paul we already have that covered! We always admit when you make a mistake!

  56. LOL good ol’Keri, you’re just jealous cuz you recently lost your crown.
    I will never give anyone the chance to admit that I’m wrong, especially not tonight! I’ve drunk just the right amount to argue on a level of perfection that even you (a chick) could not compete with.

    Well…it’s been a nice little sesh, but I gotta go walk the dog. If anyone says anything funny or smart, don’t be thinking my absence means you got me beat.

  57. The Xbox 360 is complete garbage.

    PS3 owns.

    Metal Gear Solid 4 is the best game ever.

    That’s just it Paul: no one is covering up a mistake, because it’s not necessarily a mistake buying ANY particular console. The xbox is a perfectly viable choice, just like the PS3, the wii, and the PC. It’s all dependent on your tastes. You aren’t a realist, you are just a fanboy who is so blinded by his love for one particular console that he can’t see any of the merits of other consoles. Its just a plastic box, man. Get over it.

    I refuse to type any more on this site because the site itself is retarded, and MGSFanboy took the liberty of screwing me over with MGS4.

  63. I fully agree with rider of the short bus. Its the games that make the console worth playing, not the console that makes the games worth playing.

  64. That was some pretty funny stuff guys.

    Really going at it.

    I can’t wait until we start arguing about our PS3 and 360 Wii-mote rip-offs. Who’s is gonna be better?

    On another note…

    I just passed MGS4. I’m gonna wait to be completely alone to play the Epilogue. Don’t want anyone to see me shed a tear.

    How am I supposed to get into anything else after this? MGS4 is not perfect, but there truly is nothing like it out there.

    I want more of the first two acts! I’m gonna replay the hell out of those. The last act was crazy too.

    *sigh*

    now that I saw your other post MGSfanboy, I’m not sure it was you who posted the spoilers, and they disappeared now. So sorry if it wasn’t.

  66. This made me literally spend 1800 MS points on Marathon, Yie-ar Kung Fu, and Battlezone.

  67. @Paul
    You’re a realist, I’m Descartian. Cogito ergo Sum. I think therefore I am. You don’t seem to think so perhaps you don’t exist?
    For consoles I’d say: Gameo ergo est Consolum. It games, therefore it’s a console. The PS3 has no decent games for me therefore it’s not a console to me.

  68. Or maybe, in better latin: Habet Gameum, ergo est consolum. It has games, therefore it’s a console.

  69. It doesn’t work, ergo est f*ckin 360!

  70. But it does have games, so technically it’s a console. You can’t argue with my perfect logic

    I don’t remember who said this, and I’m not going back to check, but it is inevitable that the PS3 will eventually outsell or at least catch up to the 360. I have said this several times and I never seem to get a response. And I’m pretty sure that it is a valid argument, but that itself is an opinion

    1. the rate of PS3 sales exceeds rate of 360 sales. Why? because the 360 is just barely outselling the ps3 in North America (month by month) and, infact, the ps3 outsold the 360 in North America during Jan and Feb. All the meanwhile, the 360 is getting slaughtered EVERYWHERE else.

    2. @JerzeyLegend, The vast majority of 360 “only” titles are available on PC, and those that aren’t are either coming to PC, or are hardly worth their retail cost. the 360 has very few actually “Exclusive” titles.

    P.S. @fiffer86, “I can almost guarantee that if you took out the opening “TV sequence” which is all video files, it would remove 30-60% of the total file size on disk.”
    Yeah, but that still doesn’t fit on a DVD disk.

    i admit that for a second i was thinking about playing some games on my brother’s 360 but i took the ps2 and put it back to work.
    i m playing yakuza right now.
    i made the best choice.

    @marnick

    My God, I think you broke Paul. He was crazy in his last post.

  74. @Praetorian – Many of us have made those observations in the past. There is nothing you can say that will convince a fanboy.

    It’s going to take some time, but it does look like the PS3 will keep outselling it, it doesn’t look like it’s gonna come anytime soon though.

    And the argument for the 360 “exclusives” being playable on PC is that the PS3 doesn’t have any good exclusives, so who are we to talk?

    Regarding the last part, I’m not sure. I don’t really care to learn about specs, I just like games :)

    Ask Chimera, keri, sixaxis, Paul, Escape, or rider. They might know. Come on guys can you answer that?

  75. It doesn’t work, ergo est f*ckin ps2!

    Disc Read Error for the win!

  76. @Stickemup and praetorian: ofcourse ps3 is going to outsell the xbox360. Let’s just calculate how long it’s going to take, okay? :)

    Last month the ps3 edged 20k units (worldwide) above the xbox360. The ps3 has about 6 million units to catch up on. At the current rate it will take 6mil/20k == 300 months. This equals 25 years, about the time of the ps8 or xbox2160.

    Okay chances are that the ps3 will increase it’s monthly lead, even then it’s highly unlikely that the ps3 will ever catch up this generation. The ps3 has about 2 killer titles each year, whilst the 360 has about 5-6. Also the ps3 seems to rely on old IP’s whilst the 360 has loads of new games each of them attracting new audiences.

    Never forget that about 20-40% of all ps3′s are actually just cheap blu-ray players without any games ever bought for them. I won’t subtract them but it’s important to notice that these sales will hurt the games per system sold, which is what matters to developers.

  77. So is it true that part way through the last boss battle in MGS4 that the game pauses and you are forced to go through a 2 hour long installation?

  78. I’ll swap discs if it means my car actually gets damaged when I hit something.

  79. @marnick – I have a feeling you’re going to be another keri or sixaxis… (Loads of new IPs? Halo 3? Halo wars? GoW 2? Ninja Gaiden 2? Banjo? Forza 3?)

    I would go into detail on why your comment is mostly your fanboyism talking, but I’m too high on MGS4 to care.

    @keri – No, but there are moments that are so unbelivable that you have to look twice at the screen to make sure they are really happening.

  80. rider of the short bus Says:

    Of course the PS3 will outsell the 360 in the long run, it is more entrenched in the market, and it doubles as a blu-ray player, which does account for a lot of its sales. But I think the fanboy argument is that it will slaughter the 360 and set Microsoft back so far that they will have no choice but to leave the game industry, and this is definitely not going to happen. Both consoles are great, I don’t know why people can’t see that. Microsoft does rely on a LOT of old IP’s, just like Sony, but both are venturing out with some new ones, like Too Human and LBP.

    Glad Stickmeup enjoyed MGS4. I finally got my MGS Essentials collection, and am playing the third one right now. I started on normal, and realized that I suck horribly at stealth games and the controls take some getting used to. Overall though it is a great game. The cutscenes are badass.

  81. A question though for the Sony fanboys. Taking into account that the Blu-Ray is not infinite in it’s storage capacity it would be possible for a game of sufficient content on the PS3 to span 2 or more discs. So would you turn up your nose at this game just because you had to spend 30 seconds switching discs once every few multiple hours of gameplay?

  82. PlayItBogart Says:
    June 17th, 2008 at 1:54 pm

    Two discs or ten discs?

    My decision is made!

  83. InfraredChimera Says:

    @marnick

    If you’re referring to the NPD numbers then those only count US sales (even thats not the true number either, since not all retailers are part of the NPD group).

    @prehitorian man

    “I can almost guarantee that if you took out the opening “TV sequence” which is all video files, it would remove 30-60% of the total file size on disk.”
    Yeah, but that still doesn’t fit on a DVD disk.”

    Actually “in-game” cinematics take up less space than a “pre-rendered cgi scene”. Also if a developer is niffty enough they can compress the info as well, so it won’t take up as much space on a disc. So whatever game you’re talking about can be fit on a dvd with some programming mastery.

    @rider of the short bus

    I can’t wait for Too Human, I like loot collecting and Badlands looks good as well.

  84. @stickemup:
    I’d rather be another Erik or Six1s than be another hans, paul or stickemup. PS3 fanboys tend to rant without arguments. At least Six1s and Erik back up their claims (as do I)

    Also notice how I used capitals for Erik and Six1s, and how I didn’t for the others :) Capitals are for people that exist. You three don’t think so you guys don’t exist. Ask Descartes.

  85. @ InfraredChimera: In-game cinematics are better anyway, at least if you do them right. Just look at Half-Life.

  86. InfraredChimera Says:

    @smOke

    You don’t have to tell me about the supiority of the Half-Life series, I know already. I compare all FPS’s to the Half-Life games and not one game has touched them yet.

  87. I Wiip for Sony Says:

    Descartes was a little bit of a tool. The speed of light just HAD to be infinite for him. Not that I’m saying failstation fans think, however. That’s an immutable principle. In fact, it’s the first line in that book by that other guy I edited.

  88. @Stickemup

    I think you just misunderstood what Marnick was getting at. The majority (if not all) of the IP’s on Xbox are only as old as 1 generation. So more or less, anything coming to 360 that are “exclusive” are either new, or just as old as Xbox. Where as Sony has all the Old IP’s that are 20+ years old, which of course brings a gigantic “older” fan-base to the PS3.

    Just as examples:
    The oldest IP on Xbox (from what I can recall) would be Halo… which launched in 2001

    Xbox:
    Halo=7 years

    Playstation:
    Metal Gear solid=21 years
    Final Fantasy=21 years
    Dragon Quest=22 years
    Tekken=14 years
    Gran Turismo=11 years

    And those are just a few of the Playstation’s “killer aps”.

    So you can easily see why Sony has such a huge fanbase.

    Take me for example, I could have cared less if the PS3 was trash compared to the Wii, if thats where MGS and FF where headed, I would be spending the cash to get the PS3.

  89. @InfraredChimera:
    Oh believe me, I know how kickass the Half-Life series is, and I know there’s no need to remind anyone of that. I was just saying I liked how they found an effective way to not have to use traditional cutscenes and completely pulled it off.

  90. I guess no one has thought about it going the way of Gran Turismo 2, separating Forza 3 into two discs, one for Career mode, one for Arcade? That’s what I thought.

    @fiffer86
    Metal Gear SOLID as an IP is nine and a half years old.

  91. @ColKurtz

    Sorry about that, I meant to just put Metal Gear. Which is 21 years old. Must still be the Metal Gear Solid 4 ending running through my veins still :P

  92. I was gonna say… no point in lying when you can just revise. :P

  93. @fiffer86
    Xbox:
    Halo=7 years

    Playstation:
    Metal Gear solid=21 years Yes, you got your movie… ah sorry game now and ratings are quite good 93% so far.
    Final Fantasy=21 years Yeah, damm 2010 will be great… or maybe late 2009… hmmm… where are all the others J-RPGs??? Oh yeah, they are on the Xbox 360. I am so happy for the new Tales of on the Xbox 360.
    Dragon Quest=22 years That is REALLY great… next dragon quest is on which system??? BINGO it is for Nintendo DS!!!!
    Tekken=14 years ah, sorry… who the hell still wants to play tekken?
    Gran Turismo=11 years And again 2009 will be a nice year for PS3.
