Personally i think the 360 list is better. Mostly because both Killzone and Resistance are iffy to me. I didn’t have a good experience with either of there first titles.
And just to clarify, DVD is still (what i guess you would consider) the “market standard”, or the standard format for movies. The reason why stores sell very little HD compared to normal DVD. However Blu-Ray has been decided to be the “industry standard” for HD movies.
And of course, the E3 list I gave is capable of changing, as I only listed the ones that have been Confirmed to be shown. And it isn’t meant to be a PS3 vs. 360 post, just thought people might like a list

Yea I feel you. But the truth is no matter what country your in the PS3 only has a few games worth buying (including MGS4). The fact remains that the PS3 still makes a better Blu-Ray movie player then a game console. But then again thats always been Sony’s marketing ploy. Come out with a console to push their new format, while at the same time providing the gamers with a crap ton of C- games. Then hold onto the rights to old IP’s of 3rd party developers to give the more hardcore/older gamers a reason to buy your console.
So in the end this is how it worked out this Generation:
Nintendo Released the Wii, marketing their product to the non-gamer and classic Nintendo fans. Thus affectively taking away Sony’s old market for New gamers along with any major excitement about the sixaxis.
Microsoft launches 360 by marketing it toward the competitive gamer/online gaming community. With heavy focus towards there marketplace, and making gaming a more social activity.
Sony launches a year later, the PS3 is born. But all they have left to market is the Blu-ray player because they have been already dominated in the Casual gamer/online gamer fields. Then to Sony’s surprise they hit rock bottom, their Console isn’t selling worth crap. They start to come out with new bundles and revisions to the PS3, thinking that the price might have been the factor. But after the birth of the 40gig with no backwards compatibility they still are left struggling. Then finally they realize there problem… lack of good titles, so Sony desperately starts looking to the future and promises there fan-base many things. And this is where Sony STILL sits today. Two years past launch and they have managed to release 1 1/8 AAA exclusive titles. MGS4 and Prologue (not to mention that they go so desperate that they had to launch a demo and charge for it :S)

Like i have said in many threads before now, the PS2.5 could sell 20m consoles tommorow, but that still wouldnt make the PS2.5 a decent console.
A decent movie player? Yes. A decent GAMING console? No.
When i buy a GAMES machine i want to play games, i dont want to have to rebuy my movies that i already own just cause they look a little prettier in HD format. I buy a gaming console to buy games, hence why i went from the PS1, to PS2, to Xbox, to Xbox 360. I wouldnt even entertain a PS2.5 because after 2 years almost, it’s still a steaming pile of dog shit compared to what else is on the market.

HD DVD was a mistake from the get go. Sometimes setbacks can make a company stronger. With the failure of HD DVD Microsoft learned to leave the movie playing to devices whose primary function is to play movies, like the PS3.

The HD-DVD was a added feature, not a forced upon feature. No one particularly wanted it as they wanted a games machine, hence the reason why it died so quickly. No one gave a crap about it. So i doubt that Xbot’s are really bothered about who won what HD war.
In hindsight, had the HD-DVD player been BUILT IN to the 360, like the Blu-ray is witht he PS2.5, then Bluray would have got it’s as whooped and ended up in the same position the Betamax, Mini Disk, and UMD did. Failure.
It’s only because it was FORCED upon Sony’s loyal fanbase that it idint sink just as fast as HD-DVD did.
How many Stand Alone Bluyray players are selling? Not many cause no one cares, or they buy a PS2.5 purely for it if they do as it’s the cheapest option.

HD-DVD wasnt a Microsoft branded product, it was offered as an extra if people wanted it. So i doubt MS gave a shit that it failed, it wasnt thier loss as the 360 sold well and thats all they care about.

I know 5 people who had a PS2.5, and 3 of them had the Bluray drive fail and had to be sent back to Sony. Either the disc got stuck inside the draw and wouldnt release, or the disc simply wouldnt read.
I wouldnt be surprised if the failure rate of the Bluray drive was that far from the RROD that the first wave of 360′s suffered.
Plus the YLOD (Yellow light of death) that the PS2.5 suffers from as well.
The only difference is, is that MS fixed teh RROD issue, Sony havent got a clue how to fix the Bluray drives, apart from taking back the PS2.5 and sending back a refurbished PS2.5

Personally my feeling about the hd-dvd add-on was this, “I’m not dropping $200 on a unproven format and that goes for blu-ray as well”. There has been too many cases where a company as claimed “that this format is the future of movies, music, games and etc” and it all ends up taking a shit. I got 1st hand experience with this crap (segaCD, miniDisc players, and betamax). So when the HD disc format was decided to blu-ray I couldn’t been happier, not for sony but for the consumer base in general.

A 91/100 and 80/100 are “cgi crapfests”? When a 360 game gets that score(s), I bet you get on top of a podium and preach how “it is the best thing in the world and the ps3 is junk”. So when a PS3 title that gets the same scores you look for the cons of the article and trash the game among all the the things it does right. Also its a MGS game, if you where expecting to play the game alot, then get your head out of your ass. If you want a really honest review of the game goto destructoid.com and read there review (especially by Rev. Anthony, he goes a terrific review of it). One more thing, a review is a opinion and not the final word on the game; that’s your job.

InfraredChimera has got a good point, crap as the PS2.5 may be as a gaming console in general. MGS4 kicks ass. Yea the cut scenes are a bit too much and too long, but they are so well done to the point of wanting to watch everyone to see what happens next, which is the whole point. It tells a great story adn engrosses the player, so the player doesnt mind watching the CGI movies. I dont anyway.
Granted MGS4 isnt enough to buy a PS2.5, but it’s a masterpiece that should be played by ALL gamers. Ive still no intrest in getting a PS2.5 but did borrow one for the weekend and a copy of MGS4. And for teh first time i actually enjoyed plsying it, which i havent enjoyed playing on a Playstation as much as in days of when i first had a PS2.
the PS2.5 may be the new Saturn, but it’s unfair to bash a game of MGS4′s calibur just cause the console it resides on is shit.

Without seeing the sales charts you wouldn’t. I would recommend that you look up the console sales in Japan of PS2 vs PS3 vs Xbox vs 360. When you look at the numbers you will see that Japan does in fact have a ridiculous bias toward Sony. Where as in America I believe the sales are more well rounded and reflect the “popularity” better. Check out:

When the 360 RROD you send it in and get a free replacement, not to mention an extended warranty due to it. When the PS3 has a problem, you have a good chance of getting screwed over. Just search the net for PS3 malfunction horror stories. Just like how Sony deals with there problems, they just say “crew it”. Take the history of the PS3 controller for example.

mgs4 is the very first killer app, in fact it killed my ps3, not everything just the bluray lens. maybe it s just a coincidence or maybe the stress that the old and cheap bluray drive (the one builded in the 60 gb units) was having reading a dual layer brd was too high. the bad thing is that i ll have to wait at least one month to get a refurbished 60 gb, and here in italy is even worst than everywhere else cuz they have to send all the broken consoles to germany.

I still don’t understand why everybody and their mother is insisting that you actually make a game in “720p, 480p, 1080p, 1192830p”. There is just no such thing. All XXXp stands for is the resolution that the movie/game is being displayed at. Much like how you can change the resolution of your computer monitor. So stop making stupid posts about games being made at XXXp. The truth of the matter is that if you had a monitor to display it, you can bump it up to that resolution. The only difference is that you can’t tell a game at what resolution to display on consoles. If they wanted to, it would be extremely easy to patch a game to support “15,120p”.

When you’re escaping with Drebin at the end, you have to go through a loading screen in each area. It ruins the experience, and is the equivalant of a disc change there.

Well, just beat MGS4 for the third time. I can safely say its still a very refreshing experience. I still unlocked stuff and am saving up Drebin Points to buy the Stealth Camo for 2.5 million points (harder than a no alert playthrough, IMO)

About HAZE, I dont care, I dont really like those games anyways because they’re easy to make, so companys will never invest much time on them, just look at halo, it sucks (On the old Xbox was cool, but now FAILED).
About the PS3 System: It’s a perfect system, like Linux. Perfect systems are hard to manage/programm, so companys doesnt invest much time on them (except the best companys, like Konami or Square-Enix).
Xbox360 system is EASY, is like comparing Windows vs Linux, OBVIOUSLY Linux is better, without virus, faster, with better programms etc… but people likes Windows more than Linux, because Linux is just hard to use. This happens to consoles too, 360 is easy to manage, so companys will make games always there, but, people will pay easy games too (what a waste of money, is like buying Ubisoft DS games). On PS3 you have the guarantee that you will but a game with a best programming, an Online playing without Cheats (360 games Online, has cheats, like on Nintendo DS, people has unlimited ammunition on Hao and that stuff, so you pay’d a game for NOTHING) and a sstem that will never break (unless you throw your ps3 from an airplane)
Wii is beating the console wars? No. Wii works in a different way, since it’s just for “casual” gamers. I have a Wii, it’s cool, but it works in a completely different way, Nintendo is another world.
GTAIV has 720p and a better anti-liasing system on PS3, also, it loads faster. On 360 has a bad anti-liasing system, like playing with components (that means it doesnt work on 720p). Also, 360 has a long loadings, so when you play and go around the city, you see the city desertic, and 2-3second later everything reappears, is just pathetic, just chech Youtube videos.
So, remember: Wii is the best to play with friends or “casual” games. PS3 is the best for any other game. and 360 is hybrid, it sucks on everything, can be hacked, can cheat on games etc.

Anyway, that’s something that disappointed me about MGS4. We’re onto highly powerful machines with PS3 and Xbox 360. Gears of War had pretty big levels with very little in the way of loading, yet MGS4 has you loading areas every few minutes. You’d think, especially after 3 minute installs between each chapter, each area would be seamless, especially the streets in the 3rd act.
Gears of War is very simple. I mean, characters an the map is like a PS2 game. The only thing GoW offers, are the new effects that hides the errors, like the blurred ones to hide map enviorments, explosions etc. That makes people think “Oh, there are no big pixels around, those graphics rox!”. Remember that Kingdom Hearts 2 used this on the magic and new effects. I’ts all about effects, that’s why those games loads so fast, because they hide everything and making the game look cool and fast.
MGS4 is different, they made this game like an “Art Work”, so they dont hide anything and invest time with the IA and movements. You cant compare GoW with MGS4, because a MGS4 map has 100 timesmore polygons than GoW, and a MGS4 character has more than 70 times polygons than GoW ones. It needs some installing because Blu-Ray is hard to programm, but this is not new, this happened on DVD too, what PS3 pretends is to go forward and not stand with DVD (the easy way) Because if you want to make a big game, you’ll need like 30 DVD, and that’s not acceptable in these days.
About MGS4 being possible on 360, maybe, but with retailed things, like graphics. 360 cant afford a huge information at the same time, PS3 has the core and a super-fast RAM (7 times faster than 360), I cant imagine the FPS on 360, maybe 10FPS with the actual MGS4 graphics.
And about PS3 in general, remember that on Xbox 360 you HAVE TO buy Microsoft components, like microphone and that stuff. PS3 is FREE, so you can buy the microphone from other company if you like, also you have Free Region to buy games from outside your country. I’m just showing you the diferences.

Instead of just stuffing your posts with fabrications and asumptions, like you would a thanksgiving day turkey, how about you look up some facts.
1) Your entire comment on Gears of War is strictly personal opinion. Who is to say GoW is not art work and MGS4? And not to mention Gears of War is made by a company that has high standings in the FPS industry. More or less setting the bar for what is expected in FPS for each computer generation. If it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t have the Unreal Engine which accounts for many AA to AAA titles on both consoles. You may not like the game play of Gears of War, but denying the fact that Epic does in fact have a certain expertise in making “high-end” games, your just being a fool.
2) From a professional standpoint, making a claim saying MGS4 has “100 times” more poly count then GoW is just stupid. And you do realize the goal when making a video game is to keep the Poly count low? Its more or less the reason why Normal maps where created. And not to mention Epic, again, has been one of the leading companies in creating better and more efficient ways to construct and view normal maps.
3) If you actually took the time to look at the hardware spec’s of PS3 vs. 360 and stopped letting the “Blu-Ray” shine in your eyes, effectively blinding you, you would realize they are more or less one and the same. The only things you would have to change in order to get it to play on the 360 is 1) put it on multiple disks. Now as to how much space MGS4 actually takes up, I have not heard. But one could assume it is 25-50. Considering that Hideo claimed that it could not fit on a “single-layer” Blu-ray disk. If I had to make an estimate, i would say its around 30-35 gigs. But even though its 30-35 gigs all you would have to do to make it fit on a single DVD would be use a higher compression on the sound, and compress some of the “not so needed” video files. Such as the entire opening “TV simulation”. Which I would not be surprised if that alone takes up 40% of the total disk size.
4) No, PS3′s ram is not 7 times faster then 360′s. They are actually very comparable.
5) You do not need to buy Microsoft branded products. Any headset with the right plug would work. However the built in Bluetooth support in PS3 is very nice. Personally I feel that the PS3 is more picky about what is plugged into it then 360. At least the 360 recognizes a MP3 player when you plug it into it.

I thought 4 was worse than 3, not even taking into account the numerous lockups it gave me, I just thought it was worse in general. If I was ever a happy xboxer, it was while playing PGR3, that’s where 90% of my XBL subscription went.
I Tried Forza 2, spent more time customizing then racing, but i sucked so badly i traded it back 3 days later.
I hated forza 2 and PGR4 purely because the number of people playing PGR3 dwindled. Why can’t people just wise up and realise that my favourite games are always the best!
PGR3 was a good game, certainly my favourite launch title (PDZ was just plain boring imo), although I think PGR2 will always be the best in the series.
Far as I know, theres plenty of hackers who make their own free gaming network that Microsoft can’t touch. all Microsoft can do is block you out of Xbox Live (which they did to my original Xbox when I had that chipped)

More than likely PS3s can be modded. I did mod a dreamcast so that I could buy and play japanese games, espesically Ikaruga (which costed me around $100 to import, but so worth it.)

The downside, he has all these games which he doesn’t really give much of a chance, whereas if he’d paid full price, he’d have more of an incentive to persist with them and end up enjoying them more.

It really wasn’t about the price of the game(s), as it was so much as some of the greatest shootemups and action games never reaches our countries. The Dreamcast had a bunch of really great games that just never saw the light of day on our shores, and so that’s why i started importing and wasn’t really dissapointed at all by the price. The only thing I didn’t import where RPGs since those where text heavy games and I can’t read or speak japanese.

Uh oh – MGS 4 killing PS3′s? Seems so…
A number of gamers are reporting that MGS 4 is literally killing their PS3′s. After some play time with the game, eventually an error code pops up spelling the end of the PS3. TWO members of GAF have reported this occurrence HUELEN10 said “I wait like a minute, but nothing happened. I turn the unit off, but now it won’t boot up, though it will eject the disc. Anyone else having issues?” And Supermackem stated ” when i try to play the game it keeps giving me an error code of 80010514″.

Hell ya the DC was thinking, at how much it kicked ass. Seriously though that console had ALOT of good games on it. I must have owned like 15+ games for it and not one I ever traded in. Unfortunatly though I had to get rid of it since I needed money and I put up the imported games I had on ebay (which I recouped my money on buying those).
8!!! The most I’ve owned at any time was 2, I still had the DC when I got a Ps2. My favourite game for DC was a speedboat racer, I can’t remember the name but it had a brilliant variety courses/tracks…ring any bells?

Yes! Hydro thinder. That was the first game I got for the first console I’d owned in ages. I was working in Holland at the time and that game really helped keep me outta the coffee shops, happy days…I’m off to youtube.

Skies of Arcadia and Shenmue 1 & 2 were the best games on the DC. The DC was on par witht he SNES as one of the best consoles ever. It oozed quality games from the go, as all games systems should.
Daytona USA and Jet Set Radio were good games too.
Sword of the Berzerk was a terrific game as well and Crazy Taxi was tons of fun. Even though I don’t like football games that much but NFL 2k was a blast and Zombie Attack (aka House of the Dead Side Story) was a good but difficult brawler. Damn that console was a “gamers console” come to think about it.

Glad there are others who recognize the Dreamcast wasn’t really bad.
To me, it had some great games. Which I still own. My DC still has some of the best fighters around (Soul Calibur, MvC2, Project Justice, Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves) which is why when I want to run a fighting game tournament, I hook up the DC put in MvC2 and have a good time.
How awesome was 56k gaming? I used to have a chat room set up in the IRC that the DC had. It was one of the more popular ones (we were trying to make our room more popular than the actual #Dreamcast room
Anyway, all those games you guys mentioned were so awesome.
I remember drooling over the first Shenmue screens, thinking of the possibilities of it.
My favorites were Jet Grind Radio, Power Stone 1 & 2, Shenmue and the Sonic game.
@Cold – Dude I have the Power Stone Collection for my PSP, it’s awesome, it has extra weapons and let’s you use some characters from part 2 in part one, plus you can hook up through ad-hoc with one copy of the game.
PS1 is great for one-on-one and 2 is great for 4 players. It was a great deal for $15.
Plus the graphics look great on the PSP.
A little off topic. But one of my favorite games of all times, and prob on of the hardest games ever made imo would be Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts.

I’m still waiting for shenmue 3. All that talk of the four Wu Du, stacking books, feeding stray kittens in a park with milk from my refrigerator, talking to a dude dancing in front of a hot dog shop, fighting this freaky gollum type dude, running away from a crazy lady with a chainsaw and chasing after crazy kids who steal your bag, and working at the lucky hit stand and finding out who Lishao Tao is, and then finding a homeless former karate school student, along with borrowing a guys motorcycle to get to the wharf, and using forklifts at the wharf to move boxes for money, and then moving boxes with a crazy guy at another wharf whose movement pattern is a crazy ziggzaggy line even though the boxes are right behind you and you could just as easily walk up to it and place it down, and fighting people in fight clubs, and following a hippie chick through a forest and having to sit glossy eyed in front of your TV for that split second succession of buttons you have to press in order to prevent a man dropping his watermelon as you chase a couple of guys through a tiny street…was really fun. Oh, and I almost forgot. The story is actually about a kid trying to find the guy who killed his father with the only shred of info being a black sedan he came up to his house in.

I basically put all the thoughts that still stuck from shenmue 1 and 2 together in no particular order there, If i held one problem with that game it would only have to be the voice quality at some moments, especially with the people who just walk around the neighborhood.
I actually liked lost planet a lot, along with dead rising, I just stopped playing lost planet because all the Japanese players will avoid you if you win, seriously, just for winning, I’m pretty sure i got 10% of my avoided reputation from that game alone. But the graphics are good, the multiplayer maps and matches are HUGE, and the choice of mechs on those levels is inescapably fun, though on foor is rewarding too on smaller maps, I’ll admit sometimes I climbed to the summit of a map and sniped…tactically performing brain surgery on my foes as another guy on kotaku said, but yeah, spawns can be iffy when you have a guy sniping from atop the level. I even pre-ordered it just for the mech toy. Capcom makes really good games.

They put 720p on the box, but it has 1080p resolution, atleast my TV shows me that i’m playing at 1080p (My TV shows the resolution from the games)
That means, if I play Halo 2.5 on my TV, it will show 520p as well. also, that means, MGS4 has the DOUBLE of resolution than Xbox 360.
About Developers, like I said, only good developers will programm on PS3, we dont want Ubishit ports, we want more Squaresoft and Konami games, those are the TRUE developers, the other ones are just ignorant ones, making Barbie games for stupid xboxers paying for them.

Maybe you should look at the review of Grand Theft Auto 4 where they tried to pass off a screenshot of the PS3 version of the game with some lame photoshop pixelating filter on it as a screenshot of the 360 version of the game.
