Thieves steal PS3, bypass Xbox 360

Steal me

No surprises here…  even thieves see the value of the PS3 over the Xbox 360.

This Christmas, as my flight touched down in Houston, I heard that my house had been burglarized.

What did our Grinchy thieves steal? My husband’s car — and my PlayStation 3, on loan from Sony.

[...]

So, were the perps behind our theft hard-core gamers or just looking to sell the console for a profit? Hard to tell. But even if they couldn’t distinguish a PlayStation from a Game Boy, the hype surrounding the hard-to-get machine certainly raised its profile. The thieves bypassed our year-old Xbox 360 and our ages-old Nintendo GameCube in favor of the sleek black PS3.

  1. The PS3 costs more, duh. Ergo they will get more money at the pawn shop. This really doesn’t prove anythingl

    @ erik

Good point, thats exactly what I was gonna say.
FACT of the matter is that they can get more money from it because it’s more expensive.
Frankly I think the burglars felt sorry for them, you know having to actually own a PS3, and so they rid them of it and left the far superior 360 for them to enjoy.

someone would have to pay me to take a 360

    @erik:
I’d say they were actually just gamers starved for some current-gen action and/or bankrupt PS3 fanboys and/or already stole/bought a 360.
If they were looking to get a profit, they would have picked them all up, and in fact, if they were to choose one, not knowing much about gaming, they would have just grabbed the smallest so they could get the hell out of there quickly.

Though, the actual story on the website never mentioned anything about a 360 or gamecube.
Why did I even try to believe that part?

    Hmmm….. a console worth £200 or a console worth £500?

    I know what I’d steal

All this article did was convince me that people who want PS3s are thieves. Great job SDF, I believe all PS3

    Gah, accidentally hit enter.

Great job SDF, I believe all PS3 owners besides me are thieves from now on.

  10. Um, folks, you didn’t notice SDF is trying to bring back the funny.

This article is from Jan 07, when, as the article itself notes, the PS3 was going to $2000 on ebay.

flame back on (but in context)

  11. Whats the point of this thread exactly?

Just to inform us that a nerd posted a article on the ’4th Jan 2007′ when the PS3 was just released saying her’s got stolen?

Did you get a kick on posting 15 month old news like it happened yesterday?

Or are you as stupid as the thieves who 15 months ago didnt realise the PS2.5 would turn out to be a big bag of shit.

I can 1000% assure you that the robbers would have initially intended to keep the PS2.5, thinking it was going to be like the PS2, then after months of nothing but shit and delays, they traded it for a 360 and lived happily ever after. Or if they had sense, returned it back to the people who they stole it off and told them that it’s not even worth stealing so they can have it back.

Once again, SDF = EPIC FAIL!!!

exactly people were sellin them for over a 1000 dollars at that time

  13. ComputerScientist Says:
    June 25th, 2008 at 11:02 am

Remember when people bought PS3s because they thought that there was going to be a mad demand for them like the other systems had, then the eBay auctions had so many that people were selling them for a loss?

Now this is what I’m talking about, going back to the old school troll-style of posts. Keep it up!

They took the POS3 because they knew the owners would never miss it! The 360 on the other hand is used a lot more!! ;-P

  16. Yeah, the PS3 is worthless. You’ll get a lighter sentance for stealing something that the owners didn’t want.

  17. You guys are boring me. Goes for all of you. Where Paul @? :)

MGS4 has recently come out, where do you think?

  19. I’d steal a ps3. It’d smash it afterwards. It’d sell the silicium for profit :)

Still plenty of copies at my local store,

  21. Ummmmmmmm….isn’t the actual article a year old?
Not only is the article about a family at christmas, it’s not even the LATEST christmas!!!!
Seriously SDF? Posting news from 18 months ago? Yes PS3 were causing riots back at launch but now I can’t but trip over them when I walk into stores, unlike Wiis which are this generations PS2s and you can’t find anywhere.

  22. Maybe the thief already had a 360?

  23. nextgenmexican Says:
    June 25th, 2008 at 7:08 pm

Wander if the article mentioned it took 6 men to lift the PS3 out, and they had to remove the livingroom window to get it out. Such is the size and weight of it

  24. @Nquoid – I was thinking the same thing… This story is mega-old. Come on SDF! Give us something to argue about.

@nextgenmexican – Hehe. I hear ya, it’s huge and heavy – but ooooh so sexy.

No, no, you’ve all got it wrong. – They were crackhead thieves, who thought it was a George Foreman Grill.

  28. Well it seems like all PS 3 owners are thieves.

If they didn’t like Metal Gear, who would pay for a PS3? Assuming the thieves didn’t, they wouldn’t have one. They may have a 360 and either a Gamecube or Wii.
