Breaking: PS3 2.4 Firmware Update Bricks Xbox 360′s
The groundbreaking 2.4 Firmware update which boasts of in-game XMB access is reported to brick the Xbox 360 in more ways than one (both literally and figuratively). Sony Defense Force has received an anonymous tip from a poster by the name of “XboxHater4Lyfe” that updated his Playstation 3 to the latest 2.4 firmware update and then subsequently turned on his Xbox 360 only to find that his 360 had received the infamous “RROD” system error.
Clearly, this is a sign. We’ll update you on this story as we receive further developments. We expect Microsoft to make an announcement soon.

Whats funny is, the FW 2.40 update is ACTUALLY bricking some peoples PS3s. I was able to update my 80gb fine and love the new additions. Something else that’s funny, it’s not fully in-game XMB. I popped in a PS1 game, hit the HOME button, and guess what, no in-game XMB. I understand that it’s a PS1 game, but, it seems like PS1 and PS2 games don’t have in-game XMB, only PS3 games. It doesn’t really bother me, but, you still have to exit the game to see a message if you play a PS1 game. Also, with this update, you still can’t send voice messages, something I thought was going to be included in this update, which XBL has had since Day 1!
Also, if you are like me who only owns a PS3, but still looks up on other systems, the X360 is going to be releasing their 3D interface very soon, a lot sooner than HOME. So, once X360 does that, what will SDF have to say then? Though, once HOME is ACTUALLY released, I predict that people will actually love the PS3 more than the 360, but only time will tell.
As of now, I am in love with my PS3 more than ever. I HAVE owned an XBOX but not a 360, but have always been pissed with not being able to at least look and reply to a message while in-game, which is what I was used to with XBL, though this problem is solved now with 2.40.
I would also like to let everyone know something, if they don’t know already. When you tap the HOME button, you will get in-game XMB, but to get the Controller Settings, you have to HOLD DOWN the HOME button, I saw on a couple other forums, people saying they didn’t have the previous screen, which is actually still there: Quit Game – Controller Settings – Turn Off the System – Turn Off the Controller; JUST HOLD DOWN THE HOME BUTTON!

It is now 100% confirmed that Sony has told a LOT of lies about Firmware 2.4.
Sony said that ALL of the PS3 games would have trophies available to earn. Sony executives even used that crappy game called Lair as an example.
We now know that only 3 (yes, only THREE) Playstation 3 games have the ability to earn trophies!
What’s worse is that Sony now says that even future games will only have it if the developers decide to include the feature. In other words, it still isn’t mandatory in the way that Xbox Live Achievements are.
This is yet another major LIE that Sony has told to generate false hype!
This isn’t just a matter of “bricked” PS3 systems. People literally have to reformat their entire hard drive so that they lose ALL files! That means everything on on the PS3 hard drive will have to be written on it once again.
That takes HOURS and is ANNOYING!

First, PS3 has QUALITY games, and came 1 year after shittybox. QUALITY games means games like MGS4, and suxy games means: Barbie with a phony. Shittybox has more than 70% shitty games, easy-programming etc.
About trophies, is way different from 360. We have REAL trophies, not just numbers like 360. Also, with those trophies, you’ll get trophies in-game too, not like 360.
Also, remember that 360 is already HACKED, so people that buys games will have LESS trophies points, and people that HACKS/CHATS will have MORE points, that makes 360 trophies USELESS. I’ll repeat: FUCKING USELESS AND UNFAIR.
XMB is better than 360 one on the first version, so, imagine how coll it will be on the next version.
XMB is faster (Instant) and can do everything (on xbox all you can do is send messages… oh, how useful!)
Online play has been tested hundreds and thousands of times, and PS3 has no lag. 360 games has alot of lag (paying for it) that means YOU fail, hundreds of levels.

1: Xboxer that buys games (legal games, not copy) 2000 points. He’s PRO, he pwns online and gets all trophies on each game.
2: Xboxer that Copys games, and has more than 100 games hacked, 30.000 points. He’s a noob, gets the basic trophies, never finishes the games and hacks online with cheats.
Badly (for you) xbox is plenty of people number 2, so those trophies are UNFAIR because you can obtain them using cheats, it makes360 trohies USELESS.
PS3 will have always people number 1, so the QUALITY is 100%, and xbox360 quality is above 10%.

xbox has no trophies, it has achievements and gamerscore. And yea I know there are cheated gamerscores out there but they get banned quite regularly. Anyone moderatly interested in keeping their gamerscore doesn’t cheat
A minority always cheats, the majority enjoys the games. Although oftentimes theres a visible or vocal minority.
That said: trophies are cool too, assuming they get included in every game and get a decent purpose in home.

Some of the comments were saying Hale can only carry 2 guns this time? rather than the weapon wheel. I’m sure it’ll still be 3 times better than Gears of bore 2, but with the weapon wheel it would easily be 5 or 6 times better. Is this 2 gun thing official?

Halo 3 received a 94. In comparison Killzone received a 70 and Haze a paltry 55.

and now to kill the stupid “polygons per second” comparation that is just utter stupid,as to use the 275,000,000 triangles per second rate of PS3 at 30 fps,you need around 180 mb of ram (275kk/30 = 9 million,each one uses X,Y,Z,U,and V componentes,with 4 bytes each,or 20 bytes total),and this PER SCREEN,with some lod you can probably have like.. 50 million of triangles per screen eating like 1 gb of ram
basically,if you want to use the potential total triangle transforming rate of PS3,you would need a Much MUCH bigger ram and faster too,or it would be totally useless and stupid,so its much easier to just stick around 2-3 million of triangles per scene and stuff if with normal maps,saving bandwith and memory space
finally,reducing resolution saves FILL RATE,and pixel shader cycles,not triangles per second

Sure, I listed three major games, because if I had typed up everything the PC has to offer, it would have crashed SDF with the sheer amount of text. Others include the superior version of Team Fortress 2, the rest of Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 3, Spore (better than LBP), CSS, WAR, Crysis Warhead, Far Cry 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., C&C, World in Conflict, the list goes on and on. And ALL these games look better on the PC. The PS3 and the Xbox 360 just can’t compete with the graphical prowess of the PC.
There wont EVER be a console that can rival a PC in terms of, well everything really.
A games console is aimed at something that sites in your living room, which in every console other than the PS3′s case (ie. epic installs), you can just pop in the game and play.
PC’s on the other hand are designed to be used as a work horse, not a casual gaming thing. PC’s are always fully upgradable (which a console cant) so people can keep thier systems up to date when ever they want. Consoles must wait around 5 years for it’s upgrade (ie. a new gen console).
So PC vs Consoles are no point in arguing about, PC’s WILL always be the superior.

As long as you are willing to shell out for new ram, new graphics card and a new CPU every 2-3 years. I agree that the PC is superior in many respects. But compatibility and hardware issues make it not really worth in in many cases.
I like consoles because I can put the game in and, you know, play. And not have to worry about any of that bullshit.
It isn’t really that hard to put together your own computer for the price of a PS3 or an Xbox that could run any of those games above, except maybe Crysis. Assembly isn’t very difficult, and there are plenty of resources on the internet that could help you. Sure, its a bit more work than going out to the store and buying a console, but in the end, the performance is much better than on consoles. The price is about the same as a console.
For the price of a PS3 you can do lots of shit. But thats not the point. The point is having to do it every 2-3 years. I’ve just gotten seriously sick of trying to keep up. Now I just focus on the PC games 5+ years old.

If you choose the right parts the first time, then you DOn’T have to do it again every 2-3 years. Just maybe upgrade one part every now and again.

Though I am highly irritated by the fad in console games with needing to be installed. That is the garbage I’m trying to get away from with PC gaming.

My PC can run Crysis at full whack, and my PC is 3 yrs old. All i had to upgrade was the graphics card, which tbh didnt cost me that much.
I got a P4 3.06Ghz PC, 4gb 800mhz ram, and a 512mb ATI ‘Sapphire’ X1900 Series card.
Cost me 300 quid to build, which is pretty much exactly the same price as a PS3. But my PC pisses all over the PS3. I shouldnt need to upgrade it for a good while yet.

If you really can’t keep up with the very mild “demands” of PC gaming, it means you probably don’t have the technical knowledge to turn on a computer anyway. Consoles fail, the PC is the beginning of gaming and will always be the prime platform for games. The graphics, controls, every facet of gaming is better on the PC.
I just had to buy 2GB worth of ram just to make S.t.a.l.k.e.r. not run like garbage. I’ve never had to do that to get any games to run on my consoles.

Yet again, as long as you are willing to play keep up with whatever the technology flavor of the months is. And even then every game will run at varying levels of performance. As opposed to say, a 360 where the game will always run pristine for every game designed for it.

Yes, and if I walked across hot coals daily my feet would be so tough I wouldn’t have to wear shoes. But what you fail to see is you don’t have to put up with all of that shit with a console.
When I put a game into a console I KNOW for a fact it will work. Even if you look at the specs a game needs and know it will work you don’t know just how well it will work until after it is already bought and paid for.
I remember years back when the first Half-Life came out and I could run it, as long as everything was set to minium. So with PC gaming even worse than a game not working, is a game barely working.
With consoles, even ones such as the PS3, you don’t have to put up with that shit.
If you had 512, no wonder you couldn’t run anything. 512…I think even semi-gaming PCs come with at least 1gig to start with.
This just comes down to: do you want to put in a little effort to create a much better experience. Maintaining a computer, while not hard, is definitely more work than console gaming. However, the results are just much better. It all depends on whether or not you want to work a little bit for a better experience.

This isn’t about sales, because you can’t PLAY sales. This is about quality.
And yet I wasn’t talking about sales. The point was that you have to weigh in other factors into that quality. Would you rather walk one mile and get paid $5 or walk 100 miles and get paid $20? Hence, why more people buy fast food than take cooking classes.
Furthermore when you buy a console game you know you will get reliable quality. With a PC game you never fully know how it is going to run until you play it the first time. Even then you have to worry about the crankiness of Windows as well as viruses, spyware and defraging your hard drive. All things which could sap said quality.
Ergo, I am willing to take a slight hit to quality in order to avoid a headache.

I totally agree with you, also when playing online there seems to be a helluva alot more mature people playing as well and not some 13 year old calling you a “fag” for killing them in a game. Also with most the games coming with there “toolkits” and people making new levels and shit there is no way a console could ever match that level of customization.
@Slimster – The RROD is still happening bud. Not as often, but I know a couple of kids that bought a 360 about 3 months ago, and they recently had them RROD.
They would have bought PS3s because they were PS2 owners, but that’s what Sony gets for making it pricey.
I’ve never liked PC gaming. A keyboard to me just doesn’t feel right, even if the controls are faster and more precise, I just feel so much more comfortable relaxed on a couch with a mote in my hand.
There is also a lack of fighting and platform games on the PC.
As good as the games on the PC are, consoles have great franchises that I would never give up.
I also can’t take my PC to my friends/cousins house and play FIFA or other multiplayer games.

While that is true for the most part, you must never have played Counter-Strike…That game is full of 12-year olds, but not as much as in Halo. If you look around and pick the right server, you can usually get one with mature, older people in it. ArmA, however, is full of Army vets, and everyone is very mature and organized, which makes for a great experience.
Though I would like to add that although I prefer console games over PC games, I would still buy a thousand PC games before I would ever dream about defiling myself with a PS3.

If you’re talking about CSS, no I have never played that version, but the original I used to play quite a bit. To let you know is that my computer is a 8 year old dell w/ 800mhz p3, 512 ram, and a decent nvidia video card (a hand me down). Although I can still play Diablo 2 and Quake3 with everything on the highest settings
I still love how no one is talking about the update bricking PS3s.
Consoles and PCs both have their own ups and downs. One bad thing about PCs is that upgrading them to play a game like Crysis is very pricey. Consoles, on the other hand, are less powerful than PCs. It doesn’t even matter. PCs and consoles both have great games.

2.40 bricks POS3 grills, then re-release 2.40 as 2.41 and the XMB still sucks! Why? Because the games have to be patched to do gay trophies and music playback! THIS IS WHY WE PAY FOR XBL, they get it right!!! XBL is integrated and forced for all games to comply, that’s why XBL works so well. We don’t have to wait for the damned devs to patch! I’m glad that you thought that Gears of War 2 looked great. I’m so ready for that game when it comes out. Even though Gears of War 1 beat Resistance 1, we will just have to see IF Resistance 2 can strike back.
