Stellar showing??? You are all on drugs! Of course POS3 will have great June numbers, because of MGS4, duh. But, rest assured, that will be short lived. Let’s see July and August numbers for 360 after the price cut. Then the payoff will be in September with the dashboard update (nullifying anything the gimped 2.4+ gave the POS3 and beating Home out the gate) and November and this Holiday season when the 360 wipes the floor with the POS3 super grill/movie player with Gears2!
$ony had a horrible show. All they showed was CGI for games coming out next year or 2010 (GT5, that’s if it ever gets done, kinda like Home)!

You’re right to use the “can’t play sales” argument, especially since pleasefixmes are selling like similarly outdated VCRs. The quality of the console is the important factor, unfortunately that’s not the pleasefixme’s strong suit either.

xbox360 – Only announced games for next year? Umm okay, last I checked RFOM2, Motorstorm 2, Socom, and LBP are all games coming this year, with Killzone 2 coming in February to give us a chance to play all those awesome games we saw at E3.
@kanerilis – I know how ya feel, Brawl has me bored, they just didn’t change it up enough.
I hated how they changed some of my favorite items/weapons, also dislike the final smash ball, and it feels slower than Melee.
I love making levels though.
The only one that looks good is LBP. The rest are meh compared to Gears 2, Fable 2, Too Human, Fallout 3, Vesparia, and so on. Not to mention Primetime (our Home, which POS3 fembots won’t even have until next year, maybe).
Oh, and PlayTV, not even close to Netflix.

Some new films came out last month did it? Looking at the top 10 games chart, only MGS4 (as expected) appeared for the PS3. Which in turn pretty much says it all.
People ONLY bought the PS3 for MGS4, and to watch films. If that wasnt the case, then more PS3 games would have been on the list.
Love to see what teh trade in amount till be for July when everyone complete’s MGS4.
@Goronian – Yeah, of course, aside from MGS4, LBP is what I have been looking foward to the most. I really don’t see it happening though.
What I do see happening is it becoming HUGE on the net, with people recording their remakes of Mario levels, and other classic 2-D games. And come on! Lip-synch Sackboys! They talk when you talk! I can really see this becoming a big part of pop-culture. Just like with the Wii, I’ve seen a bunch of non-gamers make comments about how cool it looks, and how they would get a PS3 to play it.
Plus they are going to be changing it through DLC, it has more than meets the eye. You can even make music levels, and add storylines to your levels. There are a bunch of things that LBP does that most people don’t know about.

Nobody really bought a PS3 for the games when it first came out. Sony is starting to release even more games so the PS3 will start serving its real purpose as a video game console. Most of the games on the PS3 were not worth getting if you were buying a PS3 just to play some harcore games. That was until MGS4 came out. MGS4 is one of the reasons to buy a PS3, but I’m not buying a PS3 unless more games come out that are really worth playing.

@Goronian – Yeah man it’s real good. It’s a slow paced RPG, so don’t expect FF type cut scenes. But I love the combat in it (real-time) and they did such a good job releasing DLC, a lot of it was free. Next to Warhawk, Folklore had the most DLC, including extra missions. It was a great example on how devs should keep supporting a game.
And about B Gates… yeah, he sure wasn’t that giving when he was on his way to becoming a billionaire. He put more than a few up-and-coming companies out of business.
And it’s so easy to give when you’re a billionaire, and have achieved everything you wanted. I’m not saying I don’t respect him for giving, it’s great that he’s doing it, but I have much more respect for someone who isn’t wealthy and still gives.
Giving away millions is nothing for Bill, now someone who makes $2000 a month, and dips into their extra money to give to charity, that is more of a sacrifice.

Do I hate 360 owners? Of course not. You guys are gamers just like me. I actually wish we had a one console industry so we could all play the same games. It would be awesome for EVERYONE to make levels in LBP, not just Sony owners. Or for everyone to check out MGS4 and Gears 2.
The whole console war thing can be entertaining, I actually felt ilke I was watching a sports event while I was watching the 360 and PS3 conferences, and every good announcment was a point scored.
But it does get old. It’s at a pretty ridiculous point right now, but oh well.

@Goronian – Really man? Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, and Resistance are all really good games. I think you’re dismissing them too early, give them a shot.
Especially Uncharted and Ratchet, those two games were almost perfect from beginning to end, I kid you not. And Uncharted has a great twist at the end that completely changes up the game for the last 1/4 of it. I had NO idea that it had that in there, and I had followed the game for a long time.

I always was kind of a Jak guy in the last generation. Ratchet design is REALLY not up my alley. And Uncharted… I don’t know, I guess it might be interesting, but definetly not “drool over the screen at the sheer awesomness”. If I buy a PS3, I will certainly add it to my collection, but it’s existence/noneistence doesn’t rally move me.
I’m personnaly glad the PS3 is around and people are buying and playing it, if there was only 1 console, they wouldnt really have reason to improve it, because theres no competition for the fans to turn to

Fallout 3 is coming to PS3, but the 360 version will have “exclusive” DLC for it. While on Fallout 3, it would be great if the first two games where available for download on both XBLA and PSN to just get the people who never played them to see what the big deal about the 3rd one is.

This is regarding your thoughts towards Microsoft. I don’t think Microsoft is as bad as everybody says. Some people treat them like criminals. I actually think Bill Gates is a great guy. He was also a pioneer for the computer industry along with Steve Jobs. I use Windows Vista and I don’t see what is wrong with it. I think it’s fine and I’m happy with it. Microsoft isn’t a terrible company, and don’t forget that a lot of companies always have their own faulty products. I like Microsoft, but I’m not a fanboy. Let’s not forget Windows XP. THAT was a great operating system. The Xbox 360 and Xbox also are great gaming consoles. If you don’t like Microsoft, that is fine. As long as you are not a raving fanboy who preaches about how Microsoft sucks and doesn’t accept anybody else’s opinions.
@Cold – It’s good to have DLC for the real hardcore Fallout fans, but it already has 100 hrs of game time. Still good though.
@Genetically – Nah I’m far from a fanboy. But I’ve had computer problems in the past (some real bad ones) due to MS products. And the whole RROD thing just looks terrible. Even like three years into their life cycle, it’s still happening. And while I see how they have pioneered with their Live service, aside from that, they’ve only copied hardware left and right. And don’t get me wrong, so has Sony, but I think MS has done it more blatently.
I’m already forced to see their logo on every computer I have ever owned, I don’t wanna it stamped all over my console as well. But I will probably get one in the future when it goes down in price.

What really erks me is console sale numbers and why fanboys really care about the numbers of there respective console sold last month. Seriously, you bought a 360, PS3, or Wii and contributed for there respective consoles last month (or whenever you bought it) and thats it. MGS4 (or Halo) is a perfect example of how a great game can help move console sales. Does anyone think I bought a 360 just to buy a 360 and not play games on it? Of course I didn’t. I bought it based on the games that it had on it (Oblivion, Prey, Dead Rising, and COD2) and what was coming out for it. The same goes for the PS3 (hell for any console for that matter).
What should be looked at after you buy a console is software sales, and not so much hardware (since what’s the point of owning 2 of the same console?).

Fallout: multiplatform or xbox360 exclusive, depending on the way you spin it (same as gta4)

@Cold – I would have to disagree my friend. While it’s a solid game, I don’t see anyone going out of their way and getting it with all those awesome games that we saw at E3. Unless it was $40 or less.
I think sales of our respective consoles are important to some because we have seen PS3 owners ignored during the first part of this generation, thanks to it’s slow start. So if it keeps outselling the 360, then devs will make better multiplatform games.
@Marnick – ROFM2 is going to appeal to a lot more people than the original. I know of a lot of people who didn’t play Halo 2, but were in line for Halo 3. Thanks to hype. And that is what Sony is doing for RFOM2.
LBP, you’re right, we have to wait. But even after E3, I have YET to read any negative press about it, not even a single sentence. No matter how it comes out, it’s gonna push systems. The Sackboys are already stars.

What’s gonna be considered a win? Sony has proved that they will support their consoles for 10 years. Do you really think the Wii is gonna be here for 10 years? I highly doubt it. So if the Wii outsells the PS3 at the time they get rid of it, but the PS3 goes on for 3 more years and manages to outsell it, who wins?

There’s a pretty hgh chance, that Sony will drop the PS3 support, when the next generation will press the industry forward. Let’s just hope it won’t be populated by Wii clones.
This CW is perhaps the most controversial of all. On one hand, there’s Wii, which is pretty innovative and have a lot of good ideas, but may turn the whole industry to worse with overrelying on gimmicks and simplier, easier games, with little budget, but high earnings. On the other there’s 360 and PS3, who offer you classic big-budget titles, but seem to think that the dominant colour is brown or gray and the dominant genre is FPSes… Sigh…

Do you really think that the PS3 is selling well because of the games that are being drip fed, or because people are buying it as a HD movie player?
If the PS3 just played regular DVD’s, or the 360 had HD-DVD built in from the start, the PS3 would struggle like hell to be sold to anyone who isnt a loyal Sony sucka.
It’s the PS3′s ability to play Bluray HD films that is keeping the PS3 above water. People still dont see the PS3 as worthy competition against the Wii and 360 from a gaming point of view.
It’s crystal clear to anyone who isnt blinded by the old Playstation brand name that the PS3 isnt what it should have been.
Had Sony put more effort into making it a pure games machine, rather than a multimedia hub like they kept advertising it as, then the PS3 would have ranked along side the PSone and PS2. But as Sony still seem to think that the gaming part of it is a afterthought then the PS3 will never be as good as it’s predecessor was.
People say that it got teh Cell and Bluray, Free Online Play etc.. But it’s all gimicks to make you buy it. The Cell is nothing special, just like the emotion engine on the PS2 was a bog standard 333mhz proccesor with a pretty name. The Bluray may be bigger in size, but crap for gaming (hence the epic installs all the time), and the free online is a joke compared to LIVE.
Until Sony start taking the PS3 seriously as a games machine and do things that MS and Nintendo hasnt, the PS3 will always be this generations version of the Saturn.

What MS did to Sony this console cycle is nuts. First of all MS releases the 360 4 years after the original and had the market to themselves for one year.
Despite the hardware being shit, it did shift the focus away the PS3 and did “force” sony to release the PS3 sooner rather than later. If shit would have played out like all the consoles released one year later then the reality, then I believe the PS3 would definitly be in a completly different shape than it is in now.
Sony shouldn’t worry about a “10 year plan”, should worry what will happen in a few years down the road when MS decides to roll out new hardware. While the PS3 has impressive tech in it, I don’t see it lasting 10 years (maybe 7 at the most).

Ah, I see now. You have had problems with MS products. I’ve never had problems with MS products, but that’s just me. You are probably one of those guys who has experienced problems with the products. I’ve never had a problem with Windows Vista or Windows XP, but maybe I was just lucky. While I admit that the RROD is a really bad thing, that doesn’t declare that the Xbox 360 isn’t a good a console. It’s really fun and enjoyable.

I wouldn’t consider the PS3 this generatioos Saturn, it would be more like the original Xbox. While the xbox had more power under the hood than the PS2, it was still almost considered as a after-thought to third parties. Now its been flipped around this console cycle completly.
I’d say the opposite, The Saturn pwned the PSone in terms of power, yet it was too expensive and not enough games being released. And when games were eventually released they were expensive too. Sound familiar.
Although the Xbox was double teh power of the PS2, it arrived way too late to make any kind of challange. Every man and his dog owned a PS2 by the time it was released, and suffered because of it. The games on the Xbox were excellent, both multi platform and the exclusives. The cream of the crop not being Halo 1 & 2, but Star Wars: Knights of the Old republic.
The devs are using very little of the ps3′s potential so far (they freely admit this) yet it’s already much more impressive than the pleasefixme. When Micro$haft release the urgently required pleasefixmeaswell, it won’t be a match for the ps3 either. The incredible ps3 will be fully in its stride by this time with the devs fully utilising its phenomenal power AND it’ll have the install base in its favour too. In other words…SUCK IT XBOTS!

Actually by time the next MS console comes out (lets say 2011), the tech in the PS3 is already 5-6 years old. So whatever the PS3 is capable of doing by then will look like crap to that days standards. Remember when the 360 and PS3 came out, there where slightly above or at what a PC can do at the time, but now PC’s can do helluva alot more than those two consoles combined.

When you say “PCs can do more than the ps3 now”, what do you mean exactly? The difference between last gen and current is obvious -HD. But what major change has happened in the last 2 years? With the devs talking about optimising usage of the CELL’s PPUs and their enormous benefit, I think the whole 10 year thing seems plausible.

Can the PS3 dedicate a whole graphics card just for physics and another one just for graphics and keep the CPU free to do what it needs to do? No it can’t.
Dude PC gaming advances are so fastly changing it is difficult to keep up, almost every 6-12 months there is better and faster CPUs, graphics cards, RAM, and sound cards that you can use in your PC if it can be upgraded anymore.
To put it simply ,the PS3 was outdated less than 6 months after it was out.

I highly doubt the PS3 or the 360 will look terrible in 10 years, were just at that point where games look almost life-like. I know they will pale next to PC games in 10 years, but I don’t think they will look bad at all.
I know some will say that we felt the same way when let’s say…we saw MK or Doom, but back then those games weren’t even close to looking like real life.
Sources are saying that God of War 3 is looking almost as good as Beuwolf, for anyone interested in that franchise.
I really hope they find a way to make the game more replayable though. Hopefully through DLC or something.

I’ve beaten the first two, but… The second one didn’t feel all that different. The magics were pretty much worthless, except for earthquake one, the acting was still over the top.. Huh…. Meh.
I mean… I understand it was really technologically advanced, but really… What’s so special about it? QTE? One usefull weapon trough the enntire game? Every little scene made MOTHERFUCKINGEPICTOTHEMAXYEAH? Kratos speaking like he pressed Caps Lock, and the tore the button out? idk, RFOM2 looks almost as generic of a shooter as Halo3 and Resistance 2. That 300 foot Brumak, err, “Leviathan” was a completely scripted piece of shit, and the textures in the game are awful. Why is it that the ground looks like water? At least KZ2 has graphics going for it. I wish there was a stop in FPS trends and more money spent in new IPs and other genres. Something creative.

We’ve had a fairly major step forward with SD to HD, but what else has happened in the last 2 years that sets high-end PC gaming apart from consoles? I didn’t want to get onto PC Vs consoles anyway I’m just saying I think the ps3 has a good few years in it.

I know this is such a cop out answer to your question but here it is; PC games usually always feel and play better than a port to console. I know its my personal opinion, but they always tend to be more “risky” games on a PC than a console.
The only way to play a RTS game is on a console (right now), FPS’s are still better played on a mouse and keyboard, MMORPGs or MMOFPSs (like MAG) are just easier to do.
Then you got strategy games that most consoles tend to shy away from (exception Civ: Rev and Advanced Wars) that are usually dumbed down or stripped of features.
I agree with you on the PS3 having a good number of years left in it (it fucking better or I’m going to be pissed off really soon), but I don’t think it will see the same life span as the PS2 though.

Well… Yeah, I’m more interested in Dead Rising. Why? It looks unique and fun. Haven’t played it, but I hope I’ll like it. Heavenly Sword looks just like GoW, design-wise, which I can’t stand. Uncharted looks like a recent PoP and a TR game mixed together, and I expected a lot more from the creators of Crash and Jak. Future Tools looks fun, but I’m really more of a Jak guy, so maybe his next game will move me more. Resistance is just.. Yet another FPS, which we already have a-plenty. And, as I’ve already said, right now Folklore is the only released game ona a platform I’m REALLY interested in.
Oh, and why PS still doesn’t have a mascot? Nintendo has a fat fuck and XBox has Master Chief. What about PS?

Last week I was talking with a couple of collegues at my current freelance chipdesign company. We were talking about new designs and someone just shouted: use a cell.
We gasped and then understood the funny thing of this quote. The cell is the laughing stock of the industry. It’s gimped but powerful. I’m not even sure it’s turian-complete.
We found a nice analogy. The xbox360 has a 3core power pc based cpu. We call this the Volkswagen Golf. It is not the fastest thing in the market, but with some finetuning it’s a damn cool machine.
The ps3 is a diesel tractor. It’s powerful, but it won’t run faster than 20mph. Same for the ps3: it can do alot of math and science stuff, but it can’t reliably give good graphics.

So even if I’ve played a game of the similiar genre (like GoW) I will still want to know about the world of Heavenly Sword.

Speaking of dead consoles, my mate updated his PS3 to 2.41 and it fucked his PS3. He phoned Sony and they told him they will replace it with a refurb but it will cost him 190 quid as it’s out of the 1yr warrenty. At least MS will collect and replace thier 360′s for free.

I was unfortunatly had a launch PS2 that got a DRE’s and had a fun time explaining why I shouldn’t have to pay for it, and know what the funny part of that was? They told me to send it in and give them $150 so they could fix it.
This is the one thing I dread about buying a PS3; when you update it, it can either work or brick on your ass. At least with the RROD you know your fucked and have a good idea why it happened, with the PS3 you’re end up scratching your balls with a confused look on your face.

Obvisously i’m going to trade in a few games to get MGS4 (and how is MGO anyway?), but what else should I get?
I’m thinking Resistance or Warhawk/headset, or maybe Tools of Destruction. Any good suggestions would be fucking terrific.
BTW stickemup LBP is a day one purchase for me definitly after seeing that its a psuedo 2.5D game.

@Cold – Awesome man. Of course MGS4 is first. MGO is real fun, some modes are cooler than others, I’m not much of an online gamer so I can’t tell you it’s better than so and so, but from what I’ve played, I’ve enjoyed it a lot. Playing as Snake in MGO is awesome, but you wont always get to play him in everyone against Snake. So enjoy it when you do.
I think you should start with Future Tools or Uncharted. And whichever one you choose, move to Resistance after (the guns make multiplayer so fun).
I’ve only played Echochrome on my PSP, and while I like it on there, it’s not the type of game I would buy for my PS3, but it depends on what you like.
flow is good as well, and everyone raves about pixel junk monsters, so you might wanna check that one out. (Flower looks really interesting as well, not sure if you know about it but check up on it as well)
And check out Fat Princes Cold, it’s gonna be released on the PSN, and it looks soooooo damn fun. They have a cool article of it on IGN. Check it out. It looks freakin awesome.

Anybody that uses terms such as POS3, Xbot, Emphisus on RROD, or Cell/Blu-Ray being an important selling point to the gaming market, is by definition a Fanboy.

Anybody that has 1/2 a brain could see the downfall that Sony has had this entire generation, or at least realize that Blu-Ray was only included in the PS3 to push the format. I’m not saying that the PS3 is worthless, but I can only be disappointed by what the PS3 has become. Microsoft and Sony are almost identical in there own fields. They both offer products that are both good, yet are always viewed as overpriced due to smaller company’s undercutting there prices. Yes allot of the time there products aren’t as good as some of there competitors, but rarely is there stuff “overpriced”. $300 for an OS is a generous price. Sure OSX is $100, but generally you spend hundreds-thousands of dollars more for a Apple computer.

The only game on your list that only moderatly interests me is RnC. Given that I have mario galaxy I don’t really care about it that much, mario platformers are the best, all others come a distant second.
The exclusives just aren’t there to justify a 600-400 euro purchase. There are heaps of good games on the ps3 but they are better on the 360 (achievements and live). So why bother?
3 (future) games don’t sell a console to me. The day I bought the 360 I bought 3 games and planned to buying another 5. Now I have 7 games and want 8 more. PS3? 3 games tops, in the far future. Minus one for FF. I have a tight budget, with a kid and newly built home. 400€+games is alot atm, even for an engineer electronics like me.

I missed the G4 Best of E3 show, and it was real sad that they couldn’t find enough games for the Wii to even come up with a “Best of Show” for it. They choose that game that let’s you be a spider or whatever (which looks interesting), and the 8-bit Mega Man game as notable mentions.

Actually from listening to podcasts, it sounds like everyone is shitting themselves over Mega Man 9. I personally can’t wait to get it. Also in spirit of MM9 it’s will be definitly be on the Wii for Mii, since that is in my opinion the true home of Mega Man (on a nintendo console).

I do agree with erik though on 1 point. I want to see the ps3 fail in order for the ps4 to be awesome. I recognise the positives of the ps3, but none of them are gaming-related so none of them are useful to me.
BTW: when are we going to get another review? NG2 or so. Or maybe the never finished mass effect review.

@Cold – Mega Man 9 is cool, but come on, an 8-bit game shouldn’t be your consoles best of show.
I’m not a huge Mega Man fan, I never passed one as a kid. I prefered Bayou Billy, Strider, Golden Axe, and Michael Jackson’s Moon Walker j/k

Bayou Billy actually had voices! On a 8-bit game! It was barely recognizable, but it was there, even better than the “K.O.” in Punch Out.

Micheal Jackson’s Moonwalker (and I’m not ashamed to admit this) was fucking awesome! Like Goronian said the arcade version is pure awesome.
On the MM9 thing, it just goes to show that great gameplay can trump graphics anyday.
BTW you get a instant win for liking Strider (that goes for anyone except Strider 2 for genesis that one sucked more dick than Paris Hilton).

Looks a little like BF:BC, but I hope Zipper can nail it with tremendous amount of shit working against them. Guns, maps, classes, voice chatting, balancing, LAG, and so much more that I can’t think of right at the moment.
I do hope it does have somewhat fully destructible environments like Bad Company, because (unless you’ve played already) it definitly changes how a MP match plays out, and not only that it makes it tons of fun as well (nowhere to hide basically).

I really hope that “Massive Action Game” is just a working title. And that down the road it will get a name not so generic and crass. Mind you, yeah, its a PS3 game and therefore prefer that it would never see the light of day. But the PS3 could at least fail with some dignity.
On another topic I was thinking about the accusations of me supposedly being a fanboy. I’m still trying to comprehend exactly how that makes any sense. I would be very pleased if the 360 and/or Wii failed if it meant that they would take the PS3 down with them.

I remember, back in PS2 days I bought it because it was so differenet from PC… No installations, no ArtMoney and games such as Onimusha 3, Final Fantasy X (yes, I WAS a fanboy then. I grew up.) Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance… Vibrant and collorful games, with fast-paced action and sometimes even a plot to boot. Now what’s PS3 has to offer? MAG. Gah…
By the way, anyone knows whteher they’re planning on continuing the Dark Alliance-styled games in the future? I want to play it so bad right now…

Uncharted = vibrant (the most oraganic game this generation), colorful, fast-paced action, and a great plot, with such memorable and lovable characters, and an awesome, awesome twist at the end. You wont believe it when it happens, it changes up the whole game completely.
@Cold – Another game you should check out bud is LocoRoco, it’s another very original game.
