Breaking: SCEA announces 250GB PS3 for $349

Sony continues to boost PS3 sales to new heights. Nintendo and Microsoft are going to have to scramble this Christmas to keep up with this momentum. Are they up for it?
From Sony:
Sony Computer Entertainment America Annouces New 250GB PlayStation 3 System
Following the successful launch of the slimmer and lighter PlayStation®3 (PS3™) system with 120GB hard disk drive (HDD), Sony Computer Entertainment America today announced that a new PS3 system with a 250GB HDD will be available on November 3 for $349.99 (MSRP). Launching in time for the holiday season, the 250GB PS3 system provides consumers with plenty of storage capacity to download more games, movies, and TV shows from PlayStation®Network, as well as to store their personal media files, including music, photos, and videos.
The 250GB PS3 system offers the same form factor and functionality as the current 120GB system, which achieved retail sales of 1 million units worldwide in the three weeks since its launch on September 1. Both models will be available at retail this holiday, providing both gamers and gift-givers with the opportunity to choose the PS3 system that’s right for them.
“The PS3 platform is poised for a tremendous holiday season,” said Scott A. Steinberg, vice president, product marketing, SCEA. “We kicked things off early with the new price point and sleek form factor and have continued the momentum with this week’s launch of the universally acclaimed exclusive, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. The new 250GB PS3 provides consumers with another compelling hardware option and speaks to the growing consumer appetite for digital content from the PlayStation Network – particularly high-def content that showcases the power of the PS3 system.”
More than 600 million pieces of content have been downloaded from PlayStation Network as of September 2009, and in conjunction with the launch of the 250GB PS3 system, PlayStation Network will continue to expand with a broad range of original games and blockbuster entertainment content for download this holiday season. Exclusive downloadable games launching soon on PlayStation®Store include PixelJunk Shooter, Gravity Crash, and Hustle Kings.
In addition, PlayStation Network’s video delivery service, which offers downloadable movies and TV episodes for rental or purchase, will soon add Star Trek, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Bruno, and other summer blockbusters to its movie lineup. The PlayStation Network currently offers 2,300 movies, one-third of which are available in HD format, as well as more than 13,300 TV episodes.

You know who needs the slim effect? That shoeless, drunken hobo whose videos SDF plaster on here. But beyond that I find it amusing that the PS3, after a couple of years, is starting to almost become competition to Microsoft who cannot be competition for Nintendo. Hilarious. Keep trying Sony, maybe you might be able to be #2 by the end of this console cycle. Of course then if you learn anything from this hideous disaster the PS4 will be truly a winning console. Of course you will probably try to jam a TV antenna and a toaster oven into it and find a way to further diminish its gaming capacity while raising the price.
I don’t think that the PS3 will do Sony in. But if the PS4 fails, then I think that Sony will go the way of Sega.
I’m getting Uncharted 2 tomorrow Erik me old. Can’t wait. Getting up at half six, shower etc, bit of breakfast, then straight down to the local Asda for half seven. Booked the day off work. Hope it lives up to all the hype, loved the first one so I’ve high hopes for it and judging by all the feedback on the net, I’m not gonna be disappointed.
You got it yet mate?
@No Vice
No, I despised the first why would I play the second?
@no vice
Uncharted 2 easily is better than the first one by far. Alot of the problems with the first one where corrected and its got a better story than most Hollywood moveis. So in short, its fucking awesome. And top it off Borderlands is out next week!
I think the recession in the U.S. will slam all 3 companies. Sony is wasting their time and money.
Yawn.
Wake me up when this matters.
So they make the slim with 120 GB and now they make a slim with 250GB? If I would have known they would have made this I would have waited to buy the 250 GB PS3.
Great Benny B…
Forget this endless console war. All peoples who have a brain, knows that PS3® is much much much better than the XBOX SH*T 360 3 RED LIGHT’S last generation.
CAIXISTA = portuguese word for XBOX fanboys.
Ista= portuguese word for fanboys.
Cry + X + ista= CRYxitas= Xbot fanboys, hahahaha…
They always speaks about the number of units sold, forgeting that “BUGS OF WAR” sell 5kk, and the game is a 5.0 review.
Stupid character’s
Stupid History… hey!! that game have a history? For some… hahaha
Repetitive gameplay.
Stupid A.I
THOUSANDS of BUGS…
INFINITE CHECKPOINTS, loadings and LAG
After all this, they keep saying:
- One of the best games in history!
- Best generation game.
- Best game i ever played

That whole “Xbox 360 is last-gen” argument is starting to annoy me. If it is so last-gen, why are games running on both the 360 and the PS3 virtually identical? Hell, some games even look BETTER on the 360 (GTA4 for example).
The only thing that is more advanced in the PS3 than the 360 is the Blu-ray drive. Otherwise, they are essentially identical. The cell processor of the PS3 has yet to give it any real advantage over the tri-core Xenon processor of the 360.
No real advantage?
*Yawn* Wake me up when the 360 releases a game like uncharted 2 .
@mich99
“No real advantage?
*Yawn* Wake me up when the 360 releases a game like uncharted 2 .”
Oh dear god I hope not. I would really hate to have to sell my 360 if they started hammering out turds like that.
well unlike xbots
i enjoy games that are not only brown and black
with the same repetitive formula and unreal engine 3 graphics. Why doesn’t someone mention a game better than uncharted 2? please i beg you .Every review so far has been above 9 .
@mich99
There are many many games on the 360 that are not just brown and black. In fact those sorts of games are in the minority.
But if it is that you wish to bring up might I remind you that the entirety of Killzone 2 was just GRAY.
As for games that are better than Uncharted 2, I would have to say a great deal of them. If the game was so great then it would stand to reason that I might actually buy it for my PS3. But I learned my lesson with the first Uncharted with it’s very tedious gun fights. By the time I was half-way through the game I started to realize that I saw the fights as nothing more than a stumbling block that I would have to force myself to in order to reveal more of the plot. When the core game mechanic causes you to groan and roll your eyes, there might be an issue.
*Yawn* Wake me up when Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and PC Fanboys all grow a brain and realize they are the ones hurting the gaming market.
A Sony Fanboy will dismiss the 360 and never try it. A 360 Fanboy will dismiss the PS3 and never try it. A PC Fanboy says fucck all consoles and never tries any.
A true gamer embraces that each and PC has their ups and downs and never chooses a side in the console/PC war. They own or try to own each console and a PC.
@gof22
How about a 360 fanboy who owns a PS3? Such as myself. Didn’t think about that now did you?
@erik
You don’t own a PS3.
@Tendount
Still on that are you? The fact remains that I DO regardless of what you think. The perplexing thing is why you think that I don’t?
wont find a better deal anywhere
i got mine for $299.99 wtf?
