Gamasutra: 360 Gamers Defecting To PS3 For Holiday Sequels (The Slim Effect™)

It’s coming time for the Holiday launches of anticipated multiplatform sequels — and new data provided to Gamasutra by OTX’s GamePlan Insights finds that many sequel-buyers might be switching platforms, defecting from Xbox 360 to PlayStation 3 for more than one major release.In addition to identifying the cash-strapped consumer’s most-wanted games for the holiday season, GamePlan Insights previously examined “franchise lineage,” or gamer intent to purchase sequels to favorite games.
According to OTX analyst Nick Williams, data on franchise lineage highlights an interesting trend between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 SKUs for Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin’s Creed 2, the two top-ranking titles on the latest purchase intent charts — and also two of the titles with the strongest franchise lineage.
OTX data shows that 15 percent of those who plan to buy the PS3 version of Assassin’s Creed 2 own the Xbox 360 version of the original, while only 7 percent of those who plan to buy the Xbox 360 version own the original game on PS3.
The data highlights a shift, at least among fans of Assassin’s Creed, in favor of the PS3 — a “sizable portion,” according to Williams, of players who plan a console defection for the second installment.
Moreover, the trend for Modern Warfare 2 is the same, according to OTX. “The PS3 seems poised to shift the ratio of Xbox 360 to PS3 sales for most major multi-platform releases in its favor among dual owners,” Williams tells us.

“OTX data shows that 15 percent of those who plan to buy the PS3 version of Assassin’s Creed 2 own the Xbox 360 version of the original, while only 7 percent of those who plan to buy the Xbox 360 version own the original game on PS3.”
Which means what, exactly?
Oh and I’m still waiting on my questions from previously articles to be answered. But your little cowards turned tail, per usual of all Sony fanboys.
The only thing the “Slim Effect” is dangerous to is Sony’s ego. Christmas is coming and that means people will be buying up the Wiis and 360s.
And more news to make $ony fanboys weep:
Xbox 360 Arcade Console w/ $100 Walmart Gift-Card
If you use the $100 Walmart gift-card, you are essentially getting the Xbox 360 Arcade console for $100. You can purchase a 20GB Hard-Drive and Headset for $50 a 6′ HDMI cable for $5 bringing the price of your total Xbox purchase to around $160: less than the original cost of the Xbox 360 Arcade itself and $130 cheaper than the POS3. Heck, you could take that money and buy the Sony Bluray player from Walmart as well for %148!
Yes, the $ony as perfected the slimming idea, just to thier wallets! HAHAHAHA, $ony fails again! Hey SDF, where’s the retort to this? Where are the answers to all of our questions? What, you have none? Thought so!
Another winning holiday for the 360!
Why the fuck would a cash strapped consumer buy a P$3? Even with the stripped down P$3 Bulimia with the Bulimia Effect is more expensive than either a 360 or a Wii. Then take into effect that any multiplatform titles nearly always get better treatment and more addons on the 360 version.
And lastly I’m sure that any 360 owners “defecting” to the P$3 won’t even bother to turn it on after the first week of playing it. I’ve not even turned my PS3 on in going on three months now.
Where are the P$3’s GTA4 episodes? Why did the P$3 version of Ghostbusters need a patch to look as good as the 360 version. Why did the P$3 take so long to get the FO3 addons? Where are the P$3 addons for Oblivion?
wow so much xbox fanboy in here.
many lol’s are being had at your foolishness. also read the article in gamasutra (not ps3 fanboys)
carry on
Remember that tagline “Definitive version” that the SDF used to have? I wonder what happened to that?
I guess Lens of Truth’s 24 to 8 score in favor of the 360 saying otherwise shot that one down.
After searching the United States Patent and Trademark Office I’ve not found any trade mark for “Slim Effect”. So adding that insipid TM at the end of that retarded catch phrase is yet another SDF lie.
@erik
The PS3 version of Oblivion did get the Knights of the Nine and the Shivering Isles as part of the GOTY edition of Oblivion back in 2007.
@ erik
We didn’t get the GTA4 episodes because we are getting the ps3 exclusive game “Agent” instead and i dont know about you but i prefer a full game than a DLC.
@mich99
And the 360 gets games that the P$3 doesn’t, so whats your point? My point was as far as the sad claims of this insipid story go, if I am going to buy a multiplatform game, I am going to do so on the 360. Past history has shown this to be the wisest move.
So if I am going to get a multiplatform game, I don’t know about you, but I prefer DLC over no DLC.
As far as whatever this “Agent” is, I’m just going to put it in with Demon’s Souls in that: Don’t know anything about it, don’t want to know anything about it.
too bad its coming from the same people that made GTA4 possible so its not a game you can just put under the radar.
Even if it’s made by a company which has made games that I enjoy does not mean that I am unable to put it under the radar.
Well sevens2, apparently you can’t read, as it clearly states that 15 percent of people who own an Xbox 360 and the original Assassins Creed for the Xbox are going to buy it for the PS3. It repeats the same phrase with the words…no, Acronym PS3, the title Xbox 360, and the percentile, which is going from 15 to 7, are switched out. Hence “OTX data shows that 15 percent of those who plan to buy the PS3 version of Assassin’s Creed 2 own the Xbox 360 version of the original, while only 7 percent of those who plan to buy the Xbox 360 version own the original game on PS3.”
Does that answer your question?
Also, funny joke in the comment before that, “Buying up the Wii,” as everyone either: A) Already has a Wii, or B) Thinks that the Wii is a piece of shit.
Have a great day.
Under the radar? Most people neither know nor care about Agent. The only people who do are sad PS3 fanboys who are sad that they don’t get the GTA4 episodic content.
@seven2s
All I know of the Agent is that its a PS3 game and thats it.
I always wonder why these xbots, so sure they are about their fabulous microsoft machine, why do they feel the need to trash the PS3 on a PS3 dedicated blog.
Insecurity?
Inferiority complex?
Lack of better things to do?
I hope it’s not the last one!
@seven2s
Of course its under the radar now because nobody has seen a screen or anything but once the release date gets closer then the hype train will start going and coming from rockstar i know they wont dissapoint when they will only have to develop for the ps3 for this game .

@mich99
You do know that it was the PS3 version that held up the release of GTA4, right?
@xbotkiller
You sir, seem like a person I can talk to.
I have always wondered the same thing, about all these people who LOVE their Xbox, but, apparently hate their PS3, or, hate the PS3 even though they don’t have one. Then, come on here, and post why they love their Xbox. You an me both probably wonder why erik has the most posts out of anyone, yet, hates his PS3 so much.
This is Sony Defense Force, not Microsoft Defense Force. I come on here because I own a PS3, and like to see new PS3 news. I don’t go on Xbox forums, because, I don’t own an Xbox. BUT, I do think the 360 is a great gaming machine and the ONLY sole reason I wouldn’t own a 360 is the failure rate, that’s it, and will say it, time and time again, because it’s true.
We all know that the SDF skews it’s information, and I see right through ALL of it. But, in just about all their posts, there is SOME truth to it, and we all know that, too. But, all these “xbots” think of it as 100% BS, which I find funny, then, defend their Xbox.
Also xbotkiller, eriK reads my signature, and apparently he wants to puke. But, what do you think?
I know I am going to get crap from eriK, but I am never replying to him again, there is no sense because you can’t reason with someone you is arrogant. Though, this might be my last post, I just like reading the the posts by SDF and all the “xbots”, it makes me laugh.
“We are all gamers: PC, PS, Xbox, Wii, why can’t we all just get along?” –Telzon
@Xbotkiller
“I always wonder why these xbots, so sure they are about their fabulous microsoft machine, why do they feel the need to trash the PS3 on a PS3 dedicated blog.”
Because it’s so easy to do. And beyond that, I don’t feel there should be any positive PS3 blogs, even parody ones.
@Telzon
So you are replying to someone with the name Xbotkiller? Really now? Do you think that someone with the name Xbotkiller will get into your hippie-cross-console-butt-fuck? I have had you pegged as naive. Now it seems that I will have to add idiot to my assumptions of you.
I now see that not wanting to get along with you has been the best choice all along.
“What purpose would getting along serve? Why the fuck would we want to get along?” -Erik
@eriK
Well, I guess I am going to give in to you, but whatever, you get me raged and have held back of so much what I have wanted to say to you. It’s because of your narrow minded thinking that gets me so irritated. Just the fact that you have nothing good to say about the PS3 shows your COMPLETE bias towards the 360. And, no, I don’t have to swear in my posts, because I am going to be the bigger person. And, no, that doesn’t mean that I am better than you, non of us are better than each other. But, it does show maturity levels. I don’t care, I am guess what you would call a modern hippy, kind of. But, sorry if I like to look more on the positive side of things, and try to be happy. Unlike you, that just wants to make more enemies than friends. Whatever, man. You can think the way you, want, and I will think the way that I want.
Naive? Really…? Yeah, OK, whatever you say eriK. I can think for myself, thanks; why do you think I am not a PS3 fanboy? I like my PS3, and do have a little more bias towards it, but, as I will say AGAIN, it’s only because of the 360 failure rate, that’s it. If Microsoft had a little bit better quality control, I would give them more credit. It’s is a great gaming system, as I have said before. But, you can seem to get that through your thick skull.
And, it’s OK, the feelings are mutual eriK. I wouldn’t want to be friends with someone that can’t look at the other side of things. Well, I guess you do look at the other side of things, but just look at the negatives of the PS3. And, really, if you say the PS3 has no positives, than, you really are just showing your complete arrogance and ignorance. But, I already know you answer. Both the PS3 and 360 have PROS and CONS. But, I bet you just think that the 360 has no faults, it’s 100% perfect, and the PS3 has zero positives.
It’s funny though, that more people don’t argue with you, because, well, some people have, but not many. Like, I want to post on just about every single one of your posts, because you are just so closed minded. But, you know what, I have better things to do. Which, judging that you are 60ish% of the post on SDF, you have nothing better to do, than show your LOVE for the 360.
@ Quinntan
And dont you think GTA4 could have been way better if it was a ps3 exclusive? that way they wouldn’t have to care about the disc limitations of the 360 . 50GB vs 9GB is a huge difference.They probably could have put the 2 episodes and the game on just one blu ray disc .
Rockstar even say it themself :
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=163233
Due to the lack of blu-ray and guaranteed hard-drives on the 360 , the 360 put a limit on GTA4
@Telzon
“Just the fact that you have nothing good to say about the PS3 shows your COMPLETE bias towards the 360. And, no, I don’t have to swear in my posts, because I am going to be the bigger person.”
And you think that you will find less bias by choosing to speak with someone named “Xbotkiller”? Really? Truly?
As far as swearing goes: shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker, tits.
@mich99
Do you know that a lot of blu-ray’s space on games is taken up by duplicate and redundant information? Blu-Ray has about twice the seek time of the DVD. So to compensate a lot of information has to be repeated on the disc. This is why in the new Tekken game that the PS3 has longer load times when playing off the disc as compared to the 360
@Telzon
I forgot to mention: I don’t want to make more enemies than friends. I want to make ONLY enemies and NO friends.
i Dont mind longer loading time if it equal to a bigger game . Hell, You guys still swap disks ,Something i stopped doing around the ps1 era .
Rockstar said it themself , If the 360 had blu-ray and a guaranteed hard-drive then they could have put much more into GTA4 .
Actually they did put more into GT4! It’s called the Tales from Liberty City! Only for the Xbox 360.
Which comes in two flavors: downloadable, and DVD9!
Wow those DVD9s sure do limit fun, don’t they? LOL! It’s not like those super fun games that come on Bluray, like Lair and Haze!
Isn’t the most important part of a game is the content and not the delivery method of said content.
For fucks sake you guys make it sound that you want the games to play themselves! Stop your fucking bitching and shut up and just play!
And you glad about the episodes? if it wasnt for the xbox360 and its gimped DVD9 then they would have probably fit those 2 episodes plus the game on a blu-ray .
And if you glad over 2 DLC episodes then i should be having a freaking heart attack over “Agent”.
@mich99
Really who gives a shit. I take it that you don’t own a 360, and so why you give a fuck about what you can’t play is beyond me. Seriously just like a few others on here, just shut the fuck up!
We know the episodes are good, but for all we know Agent will suck, or get canceled.
And you seem awful angry when someone brings those episodes up. Reviewers everywhere are saying that the episodes make GTA4 what it should have been in the first place.
The definitive versions of GTA4 can only be found on the 360.
InfraredChimera,
That’s my point, he keeps saying that Blu-gay equals better games. So I listed two of the shittiest games of this Gen, which are only on Blu-gay.
@mich99
I would have gladly swapped discs rather than put up with the annoying ass fucking installs in MGS4. Those seriously made me want to throw that useless ass chunk of plastic that is my PS3 through a fucking wall. I would have gladly had the game strewn across seven discs if it meant that I didn’t have to watch some elderly turd smoking forever.
And lets look back again: 360 GTA4, 2 episodes. PS3 GTA4, 0 episodes. You can keep bringing up a completely irrelevant game all you want. It doesn’t change the fact that anyone with both systems who wanted to buy GTA4 would be completely fucking retarded to buy it on the PS3. You can keep hammering on “Agent” all you want, it still doesn’t change the fact that the PS3 is the poor choice in regards to GTA4.
@seven2s
And you also forgot to mention the 2 highest exclusives games which can be only found on blu-ray .
@infrarede chimera
You dont have to own something to not give a shit about . Look at erik and seven2s for example ,They are daily viewers of this page even though they dont own a ps3 . i just cant wrap my brain around this . i never go to 360 only websites because i dont own one! If the 360 is so awesome then they should spend more time on it and less time on this page. its just plain pathetic.
Erik reminds me of people that when you serve them a plate of shit , Them complain about it but still keep coming back for more. If you complain so much abou the ps3 just forget about it and move on but you just cant so thats why you keep coming to this page every single day.
@mich99
“They are daily viewers of this page even though they dont own a ps3 .”
Bzzz, wrong, sorry. The fact of the matter is that I do own a PS3. Someone else here tried to assume that I didn’t own one. I proved him wrong, therefore I really don’t think that I need to prove it further.
@erik
Really? With a PS3 and a 360 you have no better things to do than to piss everyone on this little blog?
That shows me two things:
1. Either you are piss poor or a broke-up adolescent that can’t afford new games for months. My advice would be to sell that much loathed PS3 to get some cash to burn on new games. We will be better without you, thank you very much.
2. Or you are like a grumpy old man that gets his kicks from upsetting the most people he can while he advances onto the end of his life with no other clear purpose. The cure for this is ignoring your petty little posts and turn a blind eye to your endless bickering. We’ll see who tires first, you writing or me not reading.
Goodbye forever, sir.
Well Mich, you come here as often as we do. What’s that say about you?
@Xbotkiller
Hello Mr. Pot I am Mr. Kettle. Really, are you going to say that I am the one who just comes here to piss on everyone? Really now? Shall I pull up some of your numerous insipid and heavily biased rants? Because there are many to choose from.
And to you and the rest of the people who seem to think that because I post here that I have no time left over for any games, sorry wrong. If somehow you think this then I suggest you pick up a copy of Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing. The time it takes to make one of these posts is easily performed with pausing whatever game I am playing for a few months.
And finally, the PS3 really doesn’t take up any of my time at all, as I’ve not turned it on in around three months. And I’m fairly confident that I can easily go for four.
@seven2s
It says that im a ps3 owner and im glad about my purchase but what does it say about you when you come to a ps3 dedicated blog and bash the ps3? thats like going to a meat loving blog even thought you are a vegetarian. Plus, i dont even have a month here when i can see post of you and erik going back 6 months.
Well you obviously aren’t THAT glad about your purchase if your have to have the SDF to justify it.
Also, people like Erik and I come here to set the record straight when the SDF spouts their usual brand of spun crap or, 100% made up lies.
@mich99
Yet again, I do own a PS3. So I am just as justified as yourself in coming here. The difference being I’ve not let my PS3 destroy my brain or my taste.
Damnit, I just got back from visiting DC with my girlfriend and I see this massive thread shows up. Here I am, bringing in the rear.
Erik definitely showed me a picture of his PS3 with a note piece of paper saying “yes I do” next to it. So for all intensive purposes, he proved me wrong and we can assume he does have one. This doesn’t make his incredible hatred towards the PS3 make any more sense.
Also, I am really sick and tired of the whole “disc swapping” argument against the 360. Has anyone actually played a game that involves disc swapping? They are primarily RPGs and happen at key points in the story, usually like 10 hours apart. Is that REALLY bothersome? Once every 10 hours, you have to get up and switch a disc? The other alternative would be an installation. That’s what Turn 10 did with Forza 3. You had to install a 2.1GB second disc to get access to the content on it. Sure, it’s lame, but Sony pretty much requires you to install most games nowadays because Blu-Ray has such horrible access speeds the larger the game is.
@tendonut
Then if having a PS3 for some reason isn’t sufficient reason to hate it I would damned interested to hear just what you would consider a sufficient reason.
@erik
A little que from Family Guy last night; Roadhouse on blu-ray, nuff said. Otherwise Demons Souls is fucking sweet and one example to own one.
@InfaredChimera
Not interested.
My question was to tendonut on just what he would consider a sufficient reason to hate the PS3. I wasn’t asking for ways for me to like the PS3. That boat has long and truly sailed.
@erik
You seem to hate certain games without actually playing them. That would be understandable if the critics are overwhelmingly against the game, but these are usually top-level titles. Demon Souls is one, and every time you say “I don’t want to know anything about [Game X]” it just makes you look stupid. You also hate the hardware itself which is a bit bizarre. It is by far the most open system, no real restrictions on it, and possibly the best Blu-Ray player on the market. Even if you don’t intend to play games on the PS3, the hardware itself is very good and for once, not at an ass-raping price. Want custom soundtracks on the 360? Gotta burn to a CD then re-rip. Want it on the PS3? Throw the files on a flash drive and copy it over. Want to watch downloaded/streaming movies/TV shows? Set up some awful streaming server for the 360 on your PC, or just copy them right to the PS3 any way you want. Larger HDD than 20GB? Cough up $180 or so for a 120GB drive for the 360. Want more than the PS3 has to offer? Hop on Newegg and grab a 5400RPM 2.5″ HDD for half that/double the space. As just an entertainment system, the PS3 is way more capable yet you hate it with a passion. I understand if you PREFER the 360 because I do feel it is the better gaming machine, but to hate the hardware so passionately when you actually OWN one already just blows my mind. It doesn’t make any sense. What do you actually hate about the hardware? Why do you hate it so much when it can DO so much more than the 360?
@erik
I’ve got some more. Want to use any ol’ USB accessory (racing wheel for example) on the 360? Gotta be a 360 racing wheel and you’re paying for that logo. Want it for the PS3? Plug in anything you please. Want to use a whole range of bluetooth accessories for your PS3 like your cell phone headset? Go right ahead. For the 360? Nope, gotta be from MS. Shit like that is what I mean with a system being open. You can do pretty much anything you want with it and use any accessory you please. I also it’s not your cup of tea, and the Slim can’t do it anymore, but running your own secondary OS is a big selling point for me because it gives me basically a fully functional computer with IM and web browsers on my 42″ LCD. I could hook my desktop up to it, but they are not even considerably close to each other.
@erik
There is one reason why I a PSWII60 owner will (from now on) buy every mutiplat game on my PS3. The Xbox 360 is a pile of poorly designed trash. I dont care if the 360 has the best games in the universe, the simple fact that i cant play them makes my blood boil to the point i would love to see the 360 fail. so Microsoft wouldnt cut corners like they always do with all their products. Yes my elite i bought 2 years ago has officially died. I called MS and what did they tell me? well we no longer send boxes to customers. Thats right people. I now have to provide the box and proper packaging so my xbox wont get to the service department in pieces if i want a replacement. Just another example of cutting corners. I took care of my 360 just like everyone else and yet it decided to spit right in my face just as i was about to enjoy some fallout dlc. So whats the remedy? Not playing as much on it? i shouldnt have to do that, but thats what ima do. My 360 will be reserved for exclusives. I will buy multiplat games on the ps3 despite they may be slightly inferior at least my console wont burn.
I’ll basically end this argument in a thoughtful, adult way:
360 rules, POS3 drools!
There! On a side note, with the 360 arcade at $199 with $100 off, what hope does the POS3 Bulimia edition have this holiday season? Oh, and I do remember $ony making of of MS for the multiple SKUs when it first came out. Hmm, another example of $ony being a hypocrit? SDF make no mention of this or PS2 capability being removed or the forced pre-install for EVERY pos3 game! And $ony fanturds making fun of disc swapping? I’d rather do that than use up 60 gigs on my POS3 for games that I play a lot less often than on my 360. POS3 is in third place for a very good reason, it’s a good movie player, not so good game console.
Let the attacks begin.
@tendonut
“You seem to hate certain games without actually playing them. That would be understandable if the critics are overwhelmingly against the game, but these are usually top-level titles. Demon Souls is one, and every time you say “I don’t want to know anything about [Game X]” it just makes you look stupid.”
No. You see you are mistaking apathy for hatred. I never said that Demons Souls was a bad game or that I hated it. What I said was that I don’t want to know anything about it. No hate, no like, it just doesn’t exist as far as I care.
“Want custom soundtracks”
No.
“Want to watch downloaded/streaming movies/TV shows?”
No.
“Larger HDD than 20GB?”
No.
“Want more than the PS3 has to offer?”
No, actually I want less. That is the thing. the 360 has an optional hard drive. The 360 has optional wi-fi. The 360 didn’t adopt the piss poor gaming medium of blu-ray in a sad money grab attempt at being some insipid multi-media device.
“What do you actually hate about the hardware? Why do you hate it so much when it can DO so much more than the 360?”
Because I don’t need or want it to do more. This “more” was just $ony tacking on crap to jack up the price. It’s like buying a car that has a built in smoothie maker which bumps the price of the car up another grand. I’m driving, I don’t need a fucking smoothie. I want to get from point A and arrive at point B. That is IT.
“Want to use any ol’ USB accessory (racing wheel for example)”
No.
“Want to use a whole range of bluetooth accessories for your PS3 like your cell phone headset?”
No.
“You can do pretty much anything you want with it”
Smash my PS3 comes to mind as far as want goes.
Also, there is no need to buy one of the 360 drives if you want more drive space:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/150970/upgrade_your_xbox_360s_hard_drive_on_the_cheap.html
@erik
But you already OWN it. Complaining about it being an overpriced multifunction toy from Sony doesn’t apply when you already gave them your money.
“What I said was that I don’t want to know anything about it”
You are so blinded by hatred towards this system, that you will let it sit and rot instead of playing the good games. Because you don’t want to know anything about it? What are you? 80 being introduced to computers for the first time?
@tendonut
“But you already OWN it. Complaining about it being an overpriced multifunction toy from Sony doesn’t apply when you already gave them your money.”
Irrelevant. Just because I already own it is no reason to take advantage of “uses” that I neither want, need, or can stomach.
“You are so blinded by hatred towards this system, that you will let it sit and rot instead of playing the good games. Because you don’t want to know anything about it? What are you? 80 being introduced to computers for the first time?”
I am content letting it sit and rot yes. Though no, I am not an old man being introduced to computers for the first time. I built my current PC. Though that is not a really fantastic feat I don’t think I could have done that if your current assumption about me was true now would it?
@erik
Thats a great way to upgrade your 360s harddrive, but what happens if you fuck it up? Then your royally fucked aren’t ya. But in all honestly I wouldn’t do this for multible reasons and yes MS fucks you over on there stupid ass prices for there shit. Personally would it have been so hard for MS to let people use a 2.5 SATA drive like sony does, no it wouldn’t.
Also lets not forget MS blocking certain memory cards on there current software update as well.
@InfaredChimera
Blocking certain memory cards I would never dare use. After frying out a memory card slot on my PS2 (phenomenal system, it played games) I learned my lesson about using no name memory cards.
But still MS hasn’t fucked over it’s consumers like $ony has. Again by letting people decide if they even want a hard drive or wifi. And by not adding a piss poor game medium in a sad attempt to make a multimedia device.
But the fact of the matter is that if you wanna get a bigger harddrive for your 360 (and are not handy with tools and tinkering with shit) then you have to buy a MS branded HD for your 360 to have that extra storage space. Sure MS gives you the option of adding a harddrive of wifi, aslong its there shit your buying.
limited choice is better than no choice.
@eriK
“No. You see you are mistaking apathy for hatred. I never said that Demons Souls was a bad game or that I hated it. What I said was that I don’t want to know anything about it. No hate, no like, it just doesn’t exist as far as I care.”
Umm, I have two posts you need to read.
erik Says:

Uncharted 2, Demon’s Souls, Uncharted 2, Demons Souls, Uncharted 2 Demons Souls, etc etc gag gag. Can someone please wake me up when some interesting game for any system comes out that people will talk about? And not these two wastes of discs.
erik Says:

@Krollzen.
I don’t give a fuck about Demons Souls.
Well you see Telzon when I say that I don’t give a fuck about Demon’s Souls I mean that I don’t give a fuck about Demon’s Souls. I know next to nothing about it, I want to know less. Ergo apathy. I have a website you need to read:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apathy
@erik
pick a link

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/arrogance
I’m pretty sure that the 360 version of MW2 will outsell the PS3 version, mainly because it has a bigger user-base, and Japanese don’t play FPS games.
HOWEVER, I do think that this Christmas will be the first time Sony shifts more consoles than Microsoft. Some of it will be because of the price drop Sony has made, and some of it will be because the 360 has pretty much reached market saturation at it’s current price point.
@InfaredChimera
No, I think that I will stick with apathy.
You see I don’t care about Demon’s Souls because I don’t care about Demon’s Souls.
And furthermore I would be damned interested to hear one good reason why I have to give a damn about it? Because with your attitude it seems like I broke some sort of taboo with not having an opinion about it. Was there some sort of law passed or something?
@erik
But yet you called it a “And not these two wastes of discs.” So even though you don’t care about it, you still have a opinion about its quality without actually having any knowledge about them. So either arrogance or ignorance fits that mentality better than apathy.
Okay, so let me help you with this concept:
I don’t care about Demon’s Souls. I don’t know anything about it, and don’t want to. As far as I care it doesn’t exist. If I saw a copy of it laying in the streets I would walk over it.
Now if you need any further help in translation do let me know.
@erik
RAGE! RAGE! RAGE! RAGE!
I would be full of rage as well if I was dumb enough to buy something I knew I wouldn’t like before dropping the cash for it, and then proceeded to buy it anyway.
@InfaredChimera
I see you are still having difficulty with comprehension. You see this isn’t rate, this is the polar opposite of rage. This is closer to “meh” than rage. True I might hate Uncharted 2 after the pain of playing the first one. But as far as Demon’s Souls goes, I don’t know anything about it to hate it. But I am fine with that. But I don’t wish to know any more about it. I’m content with pretending that it doesn’t exist.
@erik
If your attitude towards Demon Souls is “meh” and you know nothing/don’t want to know anything about the game, then what is your “meh” attitude based off? Why are you so “meh” about a game you know absolutely nothing about and is getting very high reviews? Does the title not spark any interest? Is it because it’s a PS3 exclusive and you refuse to acknowledge good PS3 exclusives? It makes no sense. Why do you want to know nothing about a good game? Did you have the same attitude towards GoW2 when it came out? Were you interested in it? Why didn’t you just totally put it out of your mind like you do this game considering you initially new nothing about it? What about every other game you like? What made you want to find out something about it other than nothing?
I love seeing people pointing out flaws with this clearly troll/fanboy-driven website and promoting the 360, but your hatred for the PS3 knows no bounds and has no real source. I can’t even say its because you can’t afford one since you already have it. Its like you hate it because it’s called PS3. And when a game comes along for you to potentially like, you want to know nothing about it. Give me your PS3! I’m sure I could turn it into a DistCC box for my Gentoo server.
@tendonut
“If your attitude towards Demon Souls is “meh” and you know nothing/don’t want to know anything about the game, then what is your “meh” attitude based off?”
It is based off of this: I don’t want to know anything about Demon’s Souls, because I don’t want to know anything about Demon’s Souls.
“Did you have the same attitude towards GoW2 when it came out?”
Actually no. My attitude that is closer to my attitude for Uncharted 2. The fact that the original sucked pushed me away from trying the sequel. But ask me again in a few months or years or whenever that Agent game comes out and you will get the same response as Demon’s Souls.
“Give me your PS3! I’m sure I could turn it into a DistCC box for my Gentoo server.”
No. If I ever decide to get rid of my PS3 I am not going to give it away nor will I sell it, or trade it in. To do so means that it will be potentially used. If/when I decide to get rid of it I will grind it (controller and games included) into dust.
@erik
“No. If I ever decide to get rid of my PS3 I am not going to give it away nor will I sell it, or trade it in. To do so means that it will be potentially used. If/when I decide to get rid of it I will grind it (controller and games included) into dust.”
If you did decide to get rid of it and instead of destroying it, then maybe really consider to giving it too a charity such as Childs Play or to Extra Life. You know if you don’t find anything positive with it then maybe having a heart and making some kid with a shitty (and potentially life threatning) disease day a little brighter by taking there minds off the crap those kids go through.
Or….
You could be a dick.
@InfaredChimera
I think I will opt to be a dick if it’s just the same to you.
What answer did you honestly think you were going to get out of me? Oh yes maybe I will give my PS3 to charity. Then I will give Uncharted 2 and Demon’s Souls a fair chance. Then you me and Telzon can all exchange PSN screen names and all have a rousing game of Killzone 2…
Yeah right.
Wow. Erik really is just a hateful scumbag. Go DIAF, really. You’re wasting oxygen for helpful people that contribute to the world.
@tendonut
And you think that you are much better? Because it seems to me that by me not doing what you want (that being me not approaching Demon’s Souls in the manner you wish me to) that you are being rather bossy and presumptuous.
@erik
You don’t seem to have a purpose in life. You seem like a very sad lonely guy/kid who sits alone in his studio apartment (at best) in the bad part of town. You are mean to everyone and go out of your way to annoy others because it gets you off. You’d rather make yourself look bad than make others happy. I know your type. You use to give me shit in high school and now I am your boss. (not you personally), and that leads to your bitter behavior.
I mean REALLY? You’d rather smash your PS3 than give it to a fucking charity? REALLY? REALLY? That’s what you’d do if given the option? Go out of your way to be a total dick? Either you are a horrible person or an epic troll. I am not entirely sure yet.
@tendonut
“You don’t seem to have a purpose in life. You seem like a very sad lonely guy/kid who sits alone in his studio apartment (at best) in the bad part of town. You are mean to everyone and go out of your way to annoy others because it gets you off. You’d rather make yourself look bad than make others happy.”
And you can come up with all of this because of my oppinion of the PS3 on a blog? Really now? Much like when you tried to claim that I don’t have a PS3, this is another assumption that you pulled out of your ass with no justification or anything to back it up.
“I mean REALLY? You’d rather smash your PS3 than give it to a fucking charity? REALLY? REALLY?”
I can do what I damn well please with my belongings.
@erik
Then it still begs the question. Why on earth do you have a PS3? What possessed you to buy it and what is possesses you NOT to grind it up into dust? You hate it SO MUCH yet it wasn’t like it was forced upon you. If the hardware was so unnecessary and bloated and you don’t want to use any of the features I’ve outlined in the past, WHY DID YOU BUY IT? That is the basis of me thinking you never had one to begin with. If you had one, you bought it because you wanted the features. It wasn’t until recently that the PS3 had any real noteworthy games, so we know you didn’t buy it for the games. You clearly bought it when it was at least $400 since it’s not the slim. Why does this tumor still plague your living room/bedroom? I’ve never seen someone hate on a system they OWN and rip it apart for having too many unnecessary features (which was its whole friggin’ selling point initially) in all the generations I’ve been actively involved with. (I’m 25, so my golden age was the 16-bit era). This kind of pure hatred towards a different of hardware are reserved for bitter fanboys that would either never be able to afford or at the very least, never own the system in question. I am really starting to question if you actually own it again or didn’t just take a picture of your brothers/roommates system. It just doesn’t make sense.
I should really proofread before submitting, I butchered a few lines there. Please correct mentally.
@tendonut
“Then it still begs the question. Why on earth do you have a PS3?”
I would have to say mostly so when the asshole PS3 fanboys try to pull the “well you would think differently if you HAD a PS3.” I can laugh in their face and decimate their idiotic argument.
“and what is possesses you NOT to grind it up into dust?”
I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.
“If you had one, you bought it because you wanted the features.”
No no no NO NO and a thousand more NOs. What the fuck has Sony and gaming at large devolved to? Fucking features? What the fuck? Do you know what made the PS2 leagues superior to the PS3. It didn’t have “features” it had fucking GAMES. I really do not give a shit if the PS3 can make coffee and pay my taxes. That shit RUINED Sony.
“I’ve never seen someone hate on a system they OWN and rip it apart for having too many unnecessary features (which was its whole friggin’ selling point initially) in all the generations I’ve been actively involved with.”
Could you think that is just because you have this whole feature boner going on? I’m a gamer, I like games. But if I ever become a featuerer then you will be the first to know.
“This kind of pure hatred towards a different of hardware are reserved for bitter fanboys that would either never be able to afford or at the very least, never own the system in question.”
And thus you pretty much see why I own the system. So when morons, such as yourself, try to pull the “You are just a fanboy” or “You are only saying that because you can’t afford it” I can shake the poorly designed feature lump in their faces and ask if they have anything else in their sad little bag of arguments.
“It just doesn’t make sense.”
Some people don’t like the PS3. Deal with it.
And I was actually somewhat curious to what if in some possibility the “You would think differently if you owned one!” had some small glimmer of truth to it. I mean you see InfaredChimera now, a rank and file Sony Drone. But he wasn’t always like that. At one point when he posted as ColdYellow, before he owned a PS3, he didn’t accept Sony’s bull. But after he bought the system, well you can see the result. So I was curious if it would have the same brain washing effect on myself. I am happy to report that it did not.

Russian SDF FTW!!!
@erik
“I’m a gamer, I like games”
This is exactly my point. If you like games, then WHY DID YOU BUY A PS3?! All it had going for it when you got it was the features you already stated you didn’t care about. The game library sucked and is still trying to recover. If you were a gamer, you would NOT buy a PS3. You’d buy a 360 like everyone else including me (and apparently did)
“I can laugh in their face and decimate their idiotic argument.”
So you actually blew THAT much money on something (but refuse to play any games on it of course) just so you can laugh in the faces of others when they call you out? But now you want to grind it up anyways? What the fuck is wrong with you Erik? Seriously. You’re a sad sad person.
@erik
I still don’t put up with sonys shit (or for that matter Microsofts’ or Nintendos’). Either way I laugh every damn time when someone from Sonys PR team open there traps and say something stupid (because in most, if not all cases it is fucking funny).
Sure I’m not as vocal about it as I used to be, but also 2 years ago Sony made it easy to shit all over them because it was true as I would point out the facts that where presented. Now jump to last year when they started to get there shit together (and finally I saw a good enough reason to buy one imo), so I bought one.
Don’t get me wrong, PS3 fanboys are a endless source of entertainment, just look at what happened when KZ2 came out on sites such as IGN or more recently Uncharted 2 (those games got excellent scores, which got 9’s to mid-9’s) and those fuckers went berserk. Or better yet the whole inFAMOUS vs. Prototype war, somehow Prototype (even on multible platforms) became a 360 exclusive to the idiot fanboys. The thing is Erik, I don’t feel like I need to comment about what Sony does or doesn’t do anymore, but I do like to comment on the faults of all the consoles and try to correct those that are just full of shit.
Maybe I just grew up a bit since my days as ColdYellow or I just don’t give a fuck anymore but what console sells more or less, but it has always been about the fun of vidyagames.
@tendonut
“This is exactly my point. If you like games, then WHY DID YOU BUY A PS3?”
I have already explained that a good few times in this thread alone.
No, you haven’t. Unless you are completely serious about buying a PS3 just so when people question if you have it, you can say you do.
@tendonut
Yes that was one of the reasons I gave. And again the other reason was out of pure curiosity to see if there was any weight to the tired Sony fanboy argument of “You only dislike it because you don’t have it. I wanted to see if that had any weight, and for a few brief moments I started to wonder that WHAT IF they were right? I’m pleased to say that they were very not right.
@erik
It’s kind of hard to make a judgment call like that when you own the system but don’t play any games on it. What games do you actually own? (being serious though, I want to know) We know you at least owned Uncharted 1.
You don’t need to trust fanboys on whether the PS3/its games are good. You’re just asking for trouble because they will force lowly rated games down your throat if Sony hyped it enough before launch. Just go to some review aggregator website. Skip all the garbage, sort by highest score and look at the handful that are in the 9’s and the upper 8’s. Then discard the sports games ones (unless you are into that), and those are the games to target. Considering the majority of the population of gamers seem to love those games, you would be in a very small majority if you somehow hated them all.
@erik
You already made the investment. That’s the big hurdle. Buying a system that may or may not have games for it. But now that it DOES have good games, what is the point of ignoring them? You are the only one losing here. You already have the system, play the damn games.
@tendonut
“What games do you actually own? (being serious though, I want to know) We know you at least owned Uncharted 1. ”
No I rented Uncharted 1. I own MGS4, Little Big Planet, Resistance, InFamous, Bad Company, and Silent Hill Homecoming.
“Just go to some review aggregator website. Skip all the garbage, sort by highest score and look at the handful that are in the 9’s and the upper 8’s. Then discard the sports games ones (unless you are into that), and those are the games to target.”
No. I’ve learned not to trust scores when it comes to PS3 games. I don’t know if the reviewers are just taking pity on Sony or what and throwing them a few high scores. But it was scores that lead me to tripe such as Uncharted and Killzone 2.
“You already have the system, play the damn games.”
No.
Maybe if something comes along that somehow manages to catch my interest. But that is a very big longshot, so I’m not holding my breath.
@erik
“Maybe if something comes along that somehow manages to catch my interest. But that is a very big longshot, so I’m not holding my breath.”
I’m not holding my breath either. Whenever a game worthy of playing comes out, you want to know nothing about it and pretend it doesn’t exist. You even did that to God of War 3, a game series i’m sure you loved on the PS2. So the fantasy world in your mind can continue to live on where the PS3 has absolutely no good games at all, while the rest of the world will play things you’re missing out on. You just don’t WANT the PS3 to have any good games. That what it really is. And when one comes along, you assume you’ll hate it or don’t even acknowledge it. You have nothing to gain from that attitude.
“No. I’ve learned not to trust scores when it comes to PS3 games”
That’s what is nice about news aggregator websites. It’s not just one person’s review. For a big game, it could be 100+ professional reviews. Not all of them are going to have sympathy for Sony and give them some pity scores. Maybe GamePro, but not reputable sites.
This argument just reminds me of some older people I know that refuse to buy Japanese cars because “the japs bombed Pearl Harbor”. The excuse is outdated, they are missing out on quality cars, and are coming off as just being ignorant old hateful bastards. Everyone else is happy driving around their Camry’s and Corollas (which are both made in the US now, but they don’t want to know nothin’ about nothin’), but those old bastards just can’t give up the hate they (rightfully) started 60+ years ago and get with the friggin’ program that is 2009.
@tendonut
“You have nothing to gain from that attitude.”
That’s not true. Had I adopted this attitude sooner I might not have tortured myself by playing Uncharted.
“That’s what is nice about news aggregator websites. It’s not just one person’s review. For a big game, it could be 100+ professional reviews.”
I’ve learned not to trust news aggregator websites. Even those gave tripe such as Uncharted and Killzone 2 high scores.
Also
“You just don’t WANT the PS3 to have any good games. That what it really is. And when one comes along, you assume you’ll hate it or don’t even acknowledge it.”
When it comes to what I like and what I don’t like I don’t assume anything. I’m pretty familiar with my likes and dislikes you see. I dare say that I know my likes and dislikes more so than other people know my likes and dislikes.
I knew that going into it that I did not like Killzone 2. I did not let any experience from actually playing the game to taint or factor in in any way my already decided opinion.
@erik
It wasn’t totally crazy to assume you wouldn’t like Killzone 2 since the first one sucked balls not only for you, but for the general population. But to totally hate on every major release.
@tendonut
My point remains. When I say I hate something, I hate something. I’m not assuming anything.
I sure hope they aren’t leaving for AC2.
Because, oh dear, the 360 version is superior. http://www.lensoftruth.com/?p=16415
Funny how Sony spent so much money trying to convince us that Assassins Creed II was just for PS3 (all the commercials prominently displayed “for PS3″ with no XBOX 360 mentioned anywhere), because the XBOX version still outsold it by at least a million units. Thats just shameful. By the way, hows that whole PS3 profitability thing coming? You guys ever break-even on the hardware?
