Modern Warfare 2 a “runaway success” on Playstation 3

mw2ps3

Neither Activision or Infinity Ward  could possibly imagine the true impact of The Slim Effect™ until they released Modern Warfare 2 for the PS3.   The amount of gamers playing MW2 on PSN has been so great that it’s bringing Activision’s servers to its knees.   Many have speculated that the PS3 version has actually outsold the notably inferior 360 version in many countries.

The Slim Effect™ MW2 patch is expected on Friday.  Until then, please be patient while Infinity Ward triples their PS3 server capacity (possibly even taking servers away from the disappointing 360 version).

  1. Maybe if Sony charged for it’s online they would be able to upgrade from whatever garbage servers they scavenged from Microsoft’s dumpsters.

Also the P$3′ is in, unsurprisingly, trailing behind the 360 in regards to Modern Warfare 2 sales. According to VGchartz around 55% of sales are on the 360 and only a piddly 33% on the P$3 and 12% on the PC.

So the sales for the P$3 version of the game are very “slim” indeed. And as far as I’ve seen even with beating the P$3 in sales, there has been no problems with the 360 version. Forget running children. The 360 version is a afterburner boosted jet fighter of a success.

Why do you need to keep on destroying their fantasy world? Why can’t you let them dream their sad little dreams?

I think it doesn’t matter what platform you’re playing this on, it’s going to be a “runaway success” either way.

“VGChartz preliminary day one figures puts the sales to date (including the midnight launches) at over 7 million copies worldwide across Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Around 55% of sales are on Xbox 360, 33% on PS3 and the remaining 12% on PC. In terms of regional breakdowns, over 4.2 million units were sold in the Americas (3.7 million USA), 1.2 million in the UK and 350,000 each in France and Germany.”

    JOURNALISM!

  5. I have a question for the SDF writers. Do you believe that the problems on the PS3 Modern Warfare 2 matchmaking servers would have been worse had the PS3 version sold as much as the 360 version?

  6. What I’d be worried about from a Sony point of view is that the number of PS3 copies sold is so low. I mean, if they’re only a couple of million units behind the 360, then surely there’d be a nearly equivalent number of copies sold for both platforms. The fact that there is a large disparity between the two means that less people are buying games for PS3s than for 360s. Given that the money is in selling games, this can’t be good news for Sony.

  7. http://www.lensoftruth.com/?p=16236

According to Lens of Truth, while the PS3 & 360 versions are close, the 360 takes the win.

“…with slightly better visuals, quicker loading times and a higher average fps on the Xbox 360″

Either way, neither fans will be disappointed. =/

I think you mean the PSN servers, not IW’s. Morons! And why are you so surprised? YOu ge4t what you pay for with PSN. Free price = weak infrastructure. And its going to happen with every big multiplayer release. MAG will never be able to run on PSN as it is right now, so enjoy your broken network.

The PS3 and the Xbox 360 has no graphical differences. Actually, multi-platform ports should be like this, equal quality for both games.

  10. LOL! PSN’s servers. Which crash under the strain of fewer people than XBL’s server! I guess it’s true about getting what you pay for after all!

Also Activision themselves have said that they don’t expect it to sell well on the PS3.

The PS3 version also has bugs not present in the 360 version.

  11. Well, at least this site is good for a laugh every day!

Oh, being a Netflix member and having had netflix on my 360 for a long time now, I just saw my PSN reminder that I can get Netflix for my POS3! BUT I HAVE TO WAIT FOR A DISC IN THE MAIL TO DO IT! WHAT! The mighty POS3 can’t be upgraded over the network to stream netflix movies? So much for the “most advanced” hardware cry from the $ony fanturds! My 360, through software can play movies. Netflix on the 360 is the “definitive” version!

God the POS3 is so gimped!

  12. And by Runaway, they mean people are running away from the PS3 version.

  13. I mean how sad is that when the PS3 with it’s CUTTING EDGE tech, can’t even beat a dual screen HAND HELD that’s based on N64′s tech? Just goes to show. Gamers want fun, not tech specs.

  14. Must suck for SDF to make bogus articles like this only to get shot down by some real evidence:

    http://www.electronictheatre.co.uk/index.php/industry-news/3487-call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2-xbox-360-sales-double-playstation-3

Turns out Xbox360′s sales of Modern Warfare 2 were double PS3′s sales, OUCH, so if anything it’s a snails success on the PS3 and a damn jet engine on the Xbox360.

  15. @InfraredChimara

“I think it doesn’t matter what platform you’re playing this on, it’s going to be a “runaway success” either way.”

Except for us PC gamers….we got fucked in the ass and none of my group picked up their pre-orders or just cancelled their pre-orders entirely. I is sad :(

  16. @seven2s

Not to play devil’s advocate, but it is not fair to compare handheld sales to console sales. They aren’t even competing with each other.

Also, the examiner article you posted about the NPD sales report? The one you claimed the PS3 was in third again? It shows PS3 in 2nd place (although most likely temporary, we all know it’s going back to third)

    PlayStation 3 320.6K
    Xbox 360 249.7K
    Wii 506.9K

  17. I’m using the same tactics the SDF does.

  18. Also, if you want a good laugh, go read any FFXIII thread on any message board. Funny as FUCK! There is some debacle about the theme music getting changed. So many delicious weeaboo tears!

  19. @seven2s

“I’m using the same tactics the SDF does.”

Oh, that thats ok then. Carry on.

  20. It’s an “All’s fair!” tactic, just as long as it doesn’t spill over onto other websites.
But look how pathetic the PSP is doing?
It’s not even selling a THIRD of what the DS is.
Well that can’t be right…the SDF said the the PSP go was going DESTROY the DS. http://www.sonydefenseforce.com/2009/03/02/psp-2-coming-soon-iphone-ds-destroyed/

  21. XBL just hit a milestone. 2 million people online simultaneously!
PSN would crash and BURN with that many people.

  22. @everyone

Yo, everyone, pop over to the previous story’s comments. If you need a reason to completely hate erik, read what he’s been saying. Im trying to find out why he bought a PS3 if he didn’t care about the features and doesn’t buy any games for it. He claims he bought his PS3 so when he bashes games he never played and people call him out for not owning the system, he can say he actually does. It is most likely total BS but it seems like he has lost his fucking mind in proving his point.

  23. @seven2s

You may be right about the new XBL milestone, but its still good practice to cite your claims.

    http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/96096-XBox-Live-Hits-2-Million-Concurrent-Users

This is still pretty damn impressive.

  24. @tendonut

“He claims he bought his PS3 so when he bashes games he never played and people call him out for not owning the system, he can say he actually does.”

And what is the other option? Because it seems the only other possibility would be to put up with the asinine assumption that I would not like it because I wouldn’t have it.

As far as “bashing” games that I never played. If you are referring to Demon’s Souls I technically haven’t bashed it. What I said was that I have no opinion on it. I don’t like it or hate it. I don’t know anything about it, nor do I want to know anything about it. To me it doesn’t exist.

This isn’t bashing a game I never played, this is not having an opinion on a game that I never played. And what I gathered from InfaredChimera’s inane rants regarding the Killzone 2 discussion he pretty much stated that you aren’t supposed to have an opinion on a game you have never played.

So that is what I’m doing. And for some fucking reason I’m still getting heat for it.

  25. Oh, and to get a jump start on future conversations, I also do not know or want to know anything about:

    Heavy Rain
    God of War 3
    MAG
    Agent

  26. What if those games were on the xbox360? would you consider it then?

  27. @mich99

That is irrelevant. I don’t want to know anything about them because I don’t want to know anything about them. So I do not know enough about them to know whether or not if they were on the 360 whether or not that I would consider them or not.

  28. @mich99

With the exception of possibly Agent, those are the next games on the PS3 radar that could possibly pull in high reviews. Of course he’s going to pretend they don’t exist. I’ve already argued with him as to what makes him not to want to know anything about them and it becomes a circular argument without an answer.

  29. @tendonut

I’ve already, multiple times, answered that.

I don’t want to know anything about them, because I don’t want to know anything about them. It really isn’t so complex that you should be having this much trouble figuring it out.

  30. InfraredChimera Says:

    @erik

Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. But the point I was trying to make back then, is that you where bashing a game you haven’t played yet based upon your experience with the first one. Granted the first KZ (imo) was a mediocre game, but even going into KZ2 I was still skeptical of it. But the thing is that KZ and KZ2 are two different games as in the same way that Uncharted and Uncharted 2 are two different games. In a different thread you said on the lines of “two totally wastes of discs”, and by saying that you have already determined the quality of two different games without actually playing them.
So basically what I say is this, put your money where you mouth is.

  31. Until then, please be patient while Infinity Ward triples their PS3 server capacity (possibly even taking servers away from the disappointing 360 version).

Holy fuck, did you guys really just say that? PS3 multiplayer has been in the shitter almost since day one. How long was that outage on day 2? 360 multiplayer has run almost hitch free since the beginning (minus a few minor host migration issues)

Not saying MW2 on ps3 is bad, my friend has it for both PS3 and 360 and we play both. However, 360 online has been much more reliable so far.

  32. http://www.destructoid.com/mw2-sells-twice-as-well-on-the-360-155154.phtml
“runaway success” indeed. Any thoughts Mich?

  33. @seven2s

Were you expecting anything else? But a 2:1 ratio is pretty damn good. We’ll never see SDF respond to it though.

  34. @InfaredChimera

I don’t have an opinion of Demon’s Souls. I deny it’s existence. I won’t have an opinion of MAG, Heavy Rain, or God of War 3 (among other games. Can’t think of any more at the moment). I deny their existence. Isn’t that what you wanted? For me to not have an opinion on those games?

  35. @seven2

Of course its gonna sell like hot cakes on the 360. What else does the 360 has to offer this month? Forza 3 didnt even sell 200k which shows that the 360 is just full of space marine and shooter players only.

    http://www.gamasutra.com/newswire?story=26079

Oh and i can also show games selling more on the ps3 than 360:

No you can have a opinion of those games, but you can’t just bash them just because on what you think of what the games quality without actually having first hand experience.

  37. @InfaredChimera

I’m not bashing Demon’s Souls, so I fail to see exactly what the problem is.

LOLOLOLOLOL!!! This is the best bullshit article I’ve seen on here for ages. Congratulations, SDF, on your return to form!

If the PS3 version is so good, why is every single person on every single PS3 forum complaining about the servers? PROTIP: 3rd-party servers are never a good idea.

I think this is a good preview of how hard MAG will fail. – They’ll have to invent new ways to show connectivity; a “negative” connectivity display, perhaps. (You’ll be able to join a match that was played yesterday…)

  39. @erik

He’s probably upset that you are bashing the PS3 for not having good games, then completely ignore the games, pretending they don’t exist.

  40. @tendonut

And if I didn’t decide to ignore the games I have no interest in, just how do you think that would turn out eh? Do you think that I would magically become a drooling PS3 fanboy like yourself? Or do you think that I would, shock and surprise, not like a game I have no interest in?

  41. @InfaredChimera

So apparently since not bashing these games is no longer sufficient somehow, just what the fuck is it that you want?

  42. @erik

If you read any of my previous comments not defending the PS3 against your totally unjustified hate, you’d know the last thing I am is a fanboy. If I am a fanboy, it’s for all three consoles. My 360 is still my primary gaming machine by far and probably always will be. I have barely put down Forza 3 since launch and when I do, I am craming some time with Dragons Age (for PC) in there. Before Forza, I was on my RPG binge and played through bough Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. The only system I have that is starting to get neglected is the Wii because there hasn’t been anything noteworthy on it in almost a year.

Judging by the games you DO like, there doesn’t seem to be any logical reason why you would have absolutely no interest in pretty much every major highly rated release on the PS3. Why you would buy a PS3 for what essentially amounted to PS3 fanboy peer pressure is beyond me and a real sign of mental weakness. You have no interest in the exclusive titles, you clearly wouldn’t buy multi-platform games for it (and neither would I), and you have no interest in the features Sony was trying to sell their system with. Peer pressure robbed you of at least $400 and that is just fucking pathetic. Get rid of the system and leave this site.

I don’t really buy anything you say. I am pretty sure you are just trolling (and sadly, succeeding). No one would do what you did. If they did, you’d be laughed out of any conversation you ever had. You’d be a walking joke. Buy a PS3 because fanboys told you it was a good idea? Could you not formulate an opinion on your own then like you do now? Not want to give your system/sell your system because someone may use it, so you’d rather grind it up? Have such an expensive system and ignore every major release? How dare you call yourself a gamer? How dare you? Get out of this community. Get rid of your PS3 already. And take pictures of it as you do it. Seriously. Do it. You’re a disgrace to gamers everywhere, fanboys or not.

  43. @tendonut

I really don’t give a damn if you own all three systems. I really don’t give a damn if you play non-PS3 games. Congrats, good for you. But that STILL does not explain why I MUST have an opinion regarding Demon’s Souls. I do NOT want to play Demon’s Souls, or God of War 3, or Heavy Rain, or MAG, or Agent, or.. well I’m sure the list will grow with time. Nor do I want to know a single thing about them.

But what you, or the formerly intelligent person formerly known as ColdYellow have YET to explain to me is exactly what the fucking problem is with me neither liking or hating these games. I’m not bashing them. So what is the fucking deal?

  44. InfraredChimera Says:
    November 16th, 2009 at 6:21 pm

    @erik

I don’t have a problem with you liking or hating a game (and frankly could give a shit), but to have a uninformed opinion on a title or no first hand experience with it is hard to take you seriously.

I remember a post from you what games you like alot, and I try to recommend games to you that I’ve played and that you might enjoy. I mean shit; I checked out Jurassic: The Hunted, and in good consience I couldn’t recommend that game to you (or anyone, but I do like to partake in shit games to have a laugh). I could never tell someone (not even you) to buy a shit game, but then again I will play anything that does catch my eye or pique my interest.

  45. @InfaredChimera

But what I am currently discussing is my non-opinion of the game Demon’s Souls, which I’m branching out to other games. I’m not liking or hating it with no first hand experience. I don’t know anything about it, nor do I want to know anything about it. I don’t like it, I don’t hate it. It doesn’t exist.

  46. @erik

But you also expanded your entire non-opinion to cover God of War 3, MAG, and Heavy Rain, all 3 set to be top rated titles.

  47. @tendonut

And what does their rating have to do with whether or not I should want to know about them or not? If you want to waste your time paying attention to them, fine. If millions of others want to waste their time paying attention to them, fine. What I want to know is why I should pay attention to them.

  48. This will make things a little mroe convenient. A list of games to ignore:

    http://www.denofgeek.com/games/341120/top_10_upcoming_playstation_3_exclusives.html

Mind you I’ve always wanted a game like Eight Days to be made. But one must make sacrifices in order to not regress into one of you drooling SDF short bussers.

  49. @erik

OOOOH, ok, then we were right. You just ignore them because they are PS3 exclusives. It all makes sense now. Peer pressure is keeping you from playing the games. You’re weak. And hilarious.

  50. @erik

You always wanted a game like Eight Days..but it’s on the PS3…a system you own….so you refuse to play it because you may like it. Great. Mature. Awesome.

  51. @tendonut

No I refuse to play it because I’m afraid to become like you and InfaredChimera. And I really don’t really want to become some gibbering mook who gets a second job because Ken Kutaragi told me I should. Nor do I want to be an idiot fanboy who falls for these insipid features of Sony’s new direction of style over substance in direct opposition to their success with the PS2.

  52. @tendonut

So I don’t care what review scores these games get, I don’t care how much they sell. I am not refusing to play them because of peer pressure. If anything by refusing to play supposedly popular games I am resisting peer pressure.

  53. @erik

“Mind you I’ve always wanted a game like Eight Days to be made. But one must make sacrifices in order to not regress into one of you drooling SDF short bussers.”

This just summarized your entire mindnumbing argument. And it should end with that. You will not play Eight Days. Because it’s on a PS3 and you don’t want to play PS3 exclusives. Because they are on the PS3…and you don’t want to become a PS3 fan like me and InfraredChimera. Two neutral people who get to enjoy games on both systems without any bias towards either. I don’t even know how to respond to that.

  54. @tendonut

“and you don’t want to become a PS3 fan like me and InfraredChimera.”

Yes, you have it exactly right there. I would find being like you and InfaredChimera right up there on the same level of revolting as being friends with Telzon.

I would do anything to not be like you. Now don’t you have a third job to get to, so you can add a dog brusher and a pants hemmer function to your PS3?

  55. @erik

I think we are starting to see some personality problems with you now. I think this goes deeper than random hating of a game system.

And you come after Telzon? Mr. Why Can’t We All Just Get Along? That guy is great. He sees things the same way me and Infrared see it. If you can afford all 3 systems, great, you have LOTS of awesome games to play. You just hate so you have something to hate. Did no one love you when you were younger? What exactly do you not like about our way of viewing things? We have all 3 systems, and love games on all three. Why are you threatened by it?

(And for the record, a PS3 is nothing to me. Maybe few a days pay at most. Remember, I am not a teenager. I’m 25. I work one IT job, that’s it.)

  56. @Tendonut

“And you come after Telzon? Mr. Why Can’t We All Just Get Along? That guy is great.”

He is an ass. I couldn’t imagine anything more vile than getting along with him, you, or InfaredChimera. The people who like you say a lot about who you are as a person. I couldn’t stand myself if I were liked by people like you three.

“What exactly do you not like about our way of viewing things?”

You are gullible whores who lick Sony’s sac while they work so hard to destroy everything that made the PS3 successful, forcing me to play on a Micosoft system, something I thought I would never do.

“Why are you threatened by it? ”

I’m not threatened by it. I just want to be nothing like any of you.

  57. made the ps2 successful rather.

  58. @erik

“You are gullible whores who lick Sony’s sac while they work so hard to destroy everything that made the PS3 successful”

But….you bought a PS3 too. That makes you no better than us. You apparently licked their sack as well.

Sony really did fuck up the PS3 and ruined everything that made the PS2 great. VERY few people give two shits about the features of the PS3 that are added on and have nothing to do with the gaming ability. I am not one of those people. I take advantage of everything. I didn’t buy the PS3 for a gaming machine. I have my 360 for that. I bought it for everything else. But the bonus was it COULD play games and if I am going to own one, and there are games I want that are on it, I might as well play them instead of crossing my arms with my lower lip sticking out like a pouting 4th grader for no reason. I needed a Blu-ray player and at $400, I couldn’t beat the PS3 (This is October 2008 btw). I also wanted a streaming media extender. It is that too. I also was thinking about building a separate computer for my TV for web browsing and such. Well the PS3 can do that too. For me, it worked. For someone who wanted a gaming system, it was a failure. You apparently are one of those poor saps that bought a PS3 expecting a good gaming machine. Shame on you. And now you are bitter.

  59. @tendonut

    “I needed a Blu-ray player”

    I don’t

“I also wanted a streaming media extender.”

    I don’t

“I also was thinking about building a separate computer for my TV for web browsing and such.”

    I don’t

BUT one thing that did come out of it. I found a program that lets me use my PS3 controller on my PC. That has to be the most expensive controller I have ever bought. Being $400 and all.

  60. @erik

Then you really got sucked into fanboy hype when you bought it. It was a BAD idea and you are bitter about it. I get that. I would be too. I’d be with you on this.

BUT now, that the system has finally become a formidable gaming system, (still not on par with the 360 of course) you STILL are bitter about your poor purchase. Its OK to like the PS3 now. It has plenty of great exclusives and you own quite a few of them. You’ve already made the hurdle and bought the system however long ago you did. So the sting is gone. Now put the system to good use instead of collecting dust, put down your hatred and ego, and play the games that are worth playing. There are a TON of them. There are also quite a few great games on the horizon. I am definitely pumped for God of War 3 because the first 2 were awesome on the PS2. You don’t have to be a big cock-gobbling jackoff who loves anything Sony does. I think Home is stupid for example. It was hyped up to be the best thing since sliced bread, then bombed. Their online system blows compared to XBL. Probably always will. I would also always prefer to pop a few AA’s into my PS3 controller than the garbage rechargeable controllers in the PS3 with a FUCKING 3ft USB CABLE. I mean SERIOUSLY Sony?

But Sony has also done things better than MS. Their marketplace money management is better than both Nintendo and Microsoft. No points, just straight dollar value. Love it. The system has almost no restrictions as to what you can do with the data that’s on it. You can cheaply (and without voiding the warranty) replace the hard drive. You can back up any save file you want onto any storage medium you want, including the normal flash drive. Nothing proprietary. You can save movies/music on your system from any medium in practically any format (including DivX), and it just works. I really want to buy that racing wheel for the 360 for Forza, but I am not about to drop about $100 on a racing wheel that I can ONLY use on the 360 when I could get any USB wheel and have it work on the PC and PS3, but not the 360.

It seems like you feel obligated to hate the PS3 because it rightfully made you bitter when you got sucked into the fanboy hype however long ago and got burned. I totally understand that. But the system has recovered for the most part and you already have the system, so you have nothing to lose by renting/playing games for it again. Maybe not Demon Souls if you are not into RPGs, but don’t discard games you even said you want just because it’s on the PS3. It’s stupid. Grow up, move on, welcome to 2009. It is not the year of the PS3, but it’s also not the year of the PS3-Failure.

  61. @tendonut

“BUT now, that the system has finally become a formidable gaming system,”

    I disagree.

“Its OK to like the PS3 now.”

I disagree. I don’t want to be like you or InfraredChimera, or that disgusting Telzon.

“It has plenty of great exclusives and you own quite a few of them.”

    Unfortunately.

“Now put the system to good use instead of collecting dust,”

    No.

“I am definitely pumped for God of War 3″

I am not. I don’t want to know anything about it.

“You don’t have to be a big cock-gobbling jackoff who loves anything Sony does.”

I don’t want to be a big cock-gobbling jackoff who loves a single thing that Sony does.

“The system has almost no restrictions as to what you can do with the data that’s on it. ”

    Useless

“You can cheaply (and without voiding the warranty) replace the hard drive.”

    So what?

“You can back up any save file you want onto any storage medium you want, including the normal flash drive.”

    So what?

“You can save movies/music on your system from any medium in practically any format (including DivX), and it just works.”

    So what?

“I could get any USB wheel and have it work on the PC and PS3, but not the 360. ”

    So what?

“But the system has recovered for the most part and you already have the system, so you have nothing to lose by renting/playing games for it again. Maybe not Demon Souls if you are not into RPGs, but don’t discard games you even said you want just because it’s on the PS3.”

First of all, I don’t care if you think the system has recovered. I’m not going to like the PS3. I don’t want to be that sort of person.

Secondly, why do you think me not being interested in Demon’s Souls has anything to do with it being an RPG? Two of my favorite games this cycle are Fallout 3 and Oblivion. My prior likes included things such as the Star Ocean games on the PS/PS2, numerous Final Fantasy games, Parasite Eve, Lunar. Going further back I loved Secret of Mana, and many other 16bit era RPGs. And going even further back playing the first Dragon Quest games on the NES. So do you REALLY think that Demons Souls being an RPG is what is keeping me from playing it? Really now?

  62. @erik

“So do you REALLY think that Demons Souls being an RPG is what is keeping me from playing it? Really now?”

I would really hope so. It would be incredible that you would intentionally pass up a game on a system YOU OWN that you would almost definitely love, just because you have a hatred towards said system.

  63. @erik

You already gave Sony your money. They already got what they want out of you. By just tossing it to the side does nothing but make you look like a wasteful biggot.

  64. @tendonut

    “I would really hope so.”

Okay, seeing as I gave an example of a small sampling of the RPGs I’ve played that doesn’t include my table top stuff do you really honestly think that Demon’s Souls being an RPG is what would keep me away from the game. If I wanted to grind my PS3 into dust I could probably drop a stack of my PnP books on top of it.

“You already gave Sony your money.”

And you want me to repeat that mistake?

  65. So what this is really coming down to, is you don’t hate the PS3 or any of the games. You hate Sony and everything they stand for? And are willing to neglect games you’d like to spite them?

Well…I guess I can’t really argue with that.

(I should really be doing work instead of doing this debate with you, but no lusers are calling with problems, so meh. It’s been a sloooow day here)

  66. @tendonut

“You hate Sony and everything they stand for? And are willing to neglect games you’d like to spite them? ”

You don’t have it yet, but you are getting closer. If I hated Sony I wouldn’t have purchased in the realm of 5 PS2s one after another when each bricked now would I?

  67. Another part of it is that I really REALLY don’t want to be on good terms with any of you. I really don’t think I could bear it to be on good terms with any of you. There was this one ass, it might have been Stickemup, or someone else, I can’t recall. Someone here who after I purchased my PS3 went from being antagonistic towards me to attempting to be buddy buddy. That bugged the hell out of me, so I did everything in my power to make him antagonistic again. I mean, guh, such a hideous thought. It’s like Hitler saying that he likes your view on race relations and wants to be your friend.

  68. @erik

Hmmm, probably not. Then could we say “Everything Sony has become since the PS2?

Remember though, Sony, for the most part, has shed their ego and stopped trying to take over the world with their system. With the slim, pretty much all the big hardware advantages have been stripped down to just Blu-Ray which was always a fucking stupid move for gaming. It just adds to load times and cost, because it also forced Sony to add a larger hard drive for game installs. The system is also pretty much in the ballpark range of a normal gaming system in terms of cost, so that flaw has been knocked out (finally)

  69. @tendonut

“Hmmm, probably not. Then could we say “Everything Sony has become since the PS2?”

    That is closer.

“Remember though, Sony, for the most part, has shed their ego and stopped trying to take over the world with their system. With the slim, pretty much all the big hardware advantages have been stripped down”

I really want the PS4 to come out. There is just nothing that can be salvaged from the PS3. The Slim is just a raped and beaten version of a shit system. It’s just sort of sad really. They tried to tear it down to make it more appealing but it just comes off as desperation.

  70. @erik

So you intentionally make people hate you so they won’t be your friend? I think that’s called Avoidant Personality Disorder. I would have accepted that friendship there. He probably antagonized you because you refused to see reason, then when you did, he wanted to welcome you to the club. I only started visiting this site in maybe May? I dunno. I never saw the guy though, but I definitely believe you.

  71. @erik

“They tried to tear it down to make it more appealing but it just comes off as desperation.”

I definitely agree with you there. If it isn’t a flat out admission of failure, I don’t know what it. But what makes the PS3 a shit system in terms of gaming? Shit enough to make you want to destroy the one you own?

  72. @tendonut

“So you intentionally make people hate you so they won’t be your friend? I think that’s called Avoidant Personality Disorder.”

No, it’s called picking your friends carefully, for they reflect on you.

“He probably antagonized you because you refused to see reason, then when you did, he wanted to welcome you to the club.”

A club I wanted NOTHING to do with. No, I felt much more comfortable with him when he was calling me a troll and saying I had nothing worth saying. When he started being friendly is when I started getting angry.

  73. @erik

“A club I wanted NOTHING to do with”
But you did. You joined the PS3 owners club. Due to peer pressure apparently.

Why would you ever want to wait for the PS4? Wouldn’t you want to know nothing about it? You’ve said it about Killzone 2. Why would you want to get excited about Killzone 2 when Killzone 1 sucked balls? Why get burned twice?

  74. @tendonut

“But what makes the PS3 a shit system in terms of gaming? Shit enough to make you want to destroy the one you own?”

Haven’t I already gone over this? Its an overpriced lump of plastic with far too many features. The games rely on shiny graphics and ignore gameplay. For all of Killzone 2′s HD resolution it still didn’t stand up to Half-Life with it’s simplistic polygons and blurry low-res textures.

But you know what would be really funny? Smashing the hell of it at a Child’s Play benefit.

  75. @tendonut

“But you did. You joined the PS3 owners club. Due to peer pressure apparently. ”

And there are many people who have joined the club for shooting themselves in the foot with a nailgun. Not all clubs you should be running around proclaiming about and having pride or anything. Yes I bought it, but it’s nothing I’m happy or proud of.

“Why would you ever want to wait for the PS4? Wouldn’t you want to know nothing about it? ”

I search every day listening for even rumors of it’s announcement. I want to know EVERYTHING about it.

  76. @erik

You have no room to speak of it being overpriced. You already paid at least $400 for it. But at it’s current price point of $299, it is FINALLY affordable. Most of the features have been sucked out as we’ve discussed. But all this doesn’t explain why you would buy one, then neglect it after the fact. Your argument seems rather bizarre coming from someone who owns the system. Your hatred towards it is reserved for those who are on the fence about buying it at all. They just don’t fit with someone who already has it. This is why people think you don’t own it. You complain about how overpriced it is, then talk about how you want to destroy your own. It doesn’t make any sense.

“But you know what would be really funny? Smashing the hell of it at a Child’s Play benefit.”

Oooh, I wouldn’t do that. The internet hate machine would get you. Seriously. Especially on reddit, people would show up at your door. I am not kidding.

“For all of Killzone 2’s HD resolution it still didn’t stand up to Half-Life with it’s simplistic polygons and blurry low-res textures.”

To be fair, nothing holds up to Half-Life. Except Half-Life 2.

  77. @erik

“I search every day listening for even rumors of it’s announcement. I want to know EVERYTHING about it.”

Well isn’t that a bit hypocritical? How is a PS4 any different than any PS3 game you want to know nothing about? The PS4 is a direct sequel to something that failed. The games you are neglecting, are either original or sequels to something amazing.

  78. @tendonut

“You have no room to speak of it being overpriced. You already paid at least $400 for it. But at it’s current price point of $299, it is FINALLY affordable.”

So what? Too little, too late.

“Your argument seems rather bizarre coming from someone who owns the system. Your hatred towards it is reserved for those who are on the fence about buying it at all. They just don’t fit with someone who already has it. This is why people think you don’t own it. You complain about how overpriced it is, then talk about how you want to destroy your own. It doesn’t make any sense.”

Just becaue I bought it doesn’t mean that I’ve lost perspective, or that I can’t look at it with the same scrutiny as someone who doesn’t own it. Afterall it doesn’t have a hypnosis feature that I am aware of.

“Oooh, I wouldn’t do that. The internet hate machine would get you. Seriously. Especially on reddit, people would show up at your door. I am not kidding.”

It would result in getting people I want to hate me to hate me, so that would be a plus.

“To be fair, nothing holds up to Half-Life. Except Half-Life 2.”

Well then how about this: I prefer Borderlands over Killzone 2. I prefer Bioshock over Killzone 2. And, I prefer Stalker over Killzone 2.

  79. @tendonut

“Well isn’t that a bit hypocritical? How is a PS4 any different than any PS3 game you want to know nothing about?”

    Because the PS4 isn’t a PS3 game.

  80. @erik

I am not arguing with you about Killzone 2. I didn’t like it either. It was a rental at most.

OK, this is how I see your argument. Maybe you can see why I feel it’s completely retarded.

You buy a Ferrari. You want to go FAST, take it up on the interstate and just gun it. It’s faster than you needed for side roads and commuting. Then you discover it’s illegal to take it on the interstate, so you feel disappointed with your purchase. Rightfully so. Instead of selling it and getting something more suitable for you, you put it in the garage. For the next year, all you do is complain about how powerful it is and how you can’t drive it anywhere.

Then finally, it becomes legal on the interstate and there is no speed limit. You can now take out your beautiful car and really use it. But you refuse to. Because once upon a time, it was illegal to drive on the interstate or to go as fast as it will let you. What do you do? Continue to bitch about it and smash it up Street Fighter style and pretend it’s still illegal to drive on the interstate. You had every option to use it the way you originally wanted to, but you are still bitter about the first year you had it, so you’d rather turn your back to the car instead of taking it out for a cruise the way you always wanted to. Everyone thinks you’re crazy for hating your purchase and would gladly take it off your hands to do with it what you originally intended to, but you resist. You’d rather smash it up than enjoy it on the unrestricted pavement across the country.

This is why we think you are crazy. You have the tool. But you refuse to use it. You already gave your money to Ferrari so its not like you are punishing them for making a car too fast for you.

  81. @tendonut

“Then finally, it becomes legal on the interstate and there is no speed limit. You can now take out your beautiful car and really use it. But you refuse to. Because once upon a time, it was illegal to drive on the interstate or to go as fast as it will let you.”

Well you see as far as I’m concerned it is still illegal to drive. Do you think that Sony now selling a torn down version of their system for $300 makes up for their second job comments? Do you think that it makes them trying to wow us with HD rather than gameplay okay? No, no it doesn’t. And if I just become some PS3 fanboy it means that I am giving the thumbs up on all that shit that Sony pulled on us. Then I would just be a mindless fanboy and might as well write articles for SDF.

So now I am not going to “enjoy” my PS3. Nor will I sell or give it to someone who would enjoy it. Frankly if I thought it would break it I would throw my 360 onto my PS3 to destroy it.

The only tool I care about is a sledgehammer, maybe a hacksaw. Those would be quite useful.

  82. The reasons I hated it for then are the same as now. Nothing has changed and there are no new interstate laws. What was is. The old bullshit is the current bullshit.

So tell me why again I should care about the existence of Demons Souls?

  83. @So tell me why again I should care about the existence of Demons Souls?

Because you like RPGs and it’s on a system you own. Pretty black and white there.

  84. @tendonut

Sorry, but that isn’t good enough. What I like isn’t the issue here. So let me ask again: Why should I betray my ideals and care about the existence of Demon’s Souls?

  85. @erik

Because your ideals are stubborn and only hurt yourself. Sony really doesn’t care that someone who bought their system isn’t happy about it and cries all the time. You gain nothing. And you lose the $400 you blew on your system that now sits.

So the way it looks now, it’s
    Sony: 1
    Erik: 0

    GG

  86. @tendonut

I really don’t care about if Sony cares or not. This isn’t about “hurting” them, or getting points or whatever.

  87. They should really turn the name of this site to ‘Tendonutanderikscrapitout.com’

    @erik

    So whats it about then?

You had a dislike for the PS3 before even buying one. Then you bought one.

You then have a dislike for most of the games or don’t want to know anything about them. Which defeats the purpose of buying a game console now isn’t it.?

  89. @InfaredChimera

    “So whats it about then?”

I’m fairly sure that I’ve gone over that over and over and over again.

“You then have a dislike for most of the games or don’t want to know anything about them. Which defeats the purpose of buying a game console now isn’t it.?”

When it comes to the PS3 I have no problem with defeating the purpose. That is considering the other decision would be me playing the games, which seems a much worse scenario in comparison to merely defeating the purpose.

  90. There are many different small reasons why I bought a PS3. But if you are looking for one major overarching reason, well I don’t have one. I’m not even sure myself why I bought it. I really can’t give an answer like that because I don’t have it. I’m frankly stumped as to why I bought it.

  91. You know what, i’ve been reading SDF for a while now and laughing at what Erik says in response to them but it seems your taking this vendetta WAY too far.

I’m an avid Xbox360 player, i’ve had the console since launch day and i play the hell out of it all the time and the exclusives on it have almost always been top notch. But even as a 360 player theres no way in hell i’d say that the PS3 exclusives are terrible, some maybe but not others. I really don’t see how someone like you can buy a PS3 then say anything that comes out for it doesn’t deserve any of your attention, it’s just complete and utter idiocy.

I’m getting a PS3 for christmas this year, why? Becuase the exclusives are insanely well made and could possibly become GOTY. I’ve played through Metal Gear Solid 4 which is easily the best MGS game ever and definitely in the top 10 PS3 games list and i’m an avid Ratchet & Clank fan so the games on the PS3 are just what i’m looking for. Also games such as Heavy Rain, God of War 3 and The Last Guardian could easily be contenders for GOTY 2010 along with the Xbox360 games Mass Effect 2, Alan Wake and Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Also games that are already out on the PS3 such as Demon Souls, White Knight Chronicles, Uncharted 1+2 & LittleBigPlanet make the PS3 a strong competitor in this generation of consoles.

So to say you should ignore everything and that nothing is good on the PS3? That makes you just as bad as SDF Erik.

  92. @FFFanatic

“I’m getting a PS3 for christmas this year”

Good for you. I on the other hand will not be using mine before or after Christmas. I honestly don’t really see any reason why I should want to. Yeah, buying one was probably mistake. But merely owning one is not sufficient a reason to use it. Nor should owning one make it somehow impossible to dislike it.

  93. @tendonut

And another response to your Ferrari metaphor. Even if things that made me hate the PS3 are different or completely gone it doesn’t make a difference. It’s like someone beats the hell out of you, then has a change of heart and wants to be your friend. Now even if this person is sincere in their new noble intentions it doesn’t matter. What they are is irrelevant. The fact that they did beat the hell out of you at one time is all that matters. So in that situation I would only pretend to accept that person’s friendship long enough for them to drop their guard so I can bash their face with a cinder block.

It doesn’t matter how many good games it has, or how much the price comes down. There is not a single thing that they could do that changes the past. I don’t care if the system would drop to $100, restore backwards compatibility, and have 100x more games on it that I would enjoy over the 360.

I know they are different, but I also don’t care.

  94. Damn erik
You should win troll of the year award.

  95. @erik

Then I guess we should still be at war with Great Britain right? And Japan? And Germany? And the USSR (if it existed)?

  96. @tendonut

I don’t know, maybe? I really don’t feel up for a political debate. But the point is the reason I dislike the PS3 can’t just be glossed over by fixing their mistakes. So they can put out all the games and drop the price as low as they want. I’ll still ignore Demon’s Souls and God of War 3.

  97. InfraredChimera Says:
    November 19th, 2009 at 6:28 pm

    @erik

Did you like God of War 1 and 2?

  98. @InfaredChimera

I’ve never played 2. I did play the first one and I liked it, but I didn’t like it all that much. Every time I try to play it I lose interest about part way through the game only to put it off for a few more weeks.

  99. Wonderful. Excuse me while I go play other, better games on the PC.

Oh, and how’s Team Fortress 2 going on the PS3?

  100. Games are better on the PC… if you are willing to put up with the headaches that the pc brings. I prefer the plug and go of consoles over drivers and directX and viruses, and spyware and well, lots of shit.

  101. @erik

To be fair, those are the problems you have whether your gaming on a PC or not. It’s just the way of a computer…and its even worse if you’re like me and using Gentoo (except the whole virus thing). Since you are clearly using a PC right now though, we know you can manage.

BUT, if you literally only use your computer for gaming and absolutely nothing else, then yeah, really not worth the headache.

  102. @tendonut

I use it for gaming and general internet related things such as chat and email. But regardless of that if I have an option where I can forgo the irritation of the PC I will go for it. Even if the consoles deliver a slightly lesser experience. That is a trade I’m willing to make.

  103. Now THIS is a first rate propaganda website! SDF: the obedient little Sony bitch! You don’t see this much spin going on even in a laundry mat. Lets see just how good of a propaganda machine is SDF:

    1) misrepresentation of the competition – perfect 10.
    2) blatant inaccuracies – perfect 10
    3) deliberate withholding of information – 10
    4) over-the-top glorification of PS3/Sony – 10
    5) convincibility – 1 (oops, need to work on that)
    6) willpower – 8

Well, you score great in hate speech, but you need to work on convincing us that you’re right. Anyway, good luck in the future on spreading lies and advancing your agenda!

  104. xbox 360 users get mw2 dlc first and the severs didnt crash on the xbox but they did crash on the ps3 so you ps3 fanboys are yet blind again
