New Super Mario Bros Wii reviews are in, one word: “disappointment”

mariobroswiibomb
The reviews are coming in and it looks like New Super Mario Bros Wii is yet another disappointing Nintendo release.  Between this and Mario Galaxy it’s time for Nintendo to retire Mario for a bit.

“Nintendo saved the industry with games like this, so we’re sad to say the latest lacks the imaginative spark found in past entries. Easily the weakest of the 2D Marios

“1. The music is not good.
Only Megaman relies more on its catchy themes than Mario, and this Mario game has forgettable, poorly orchestrated melodies. The best parts of the music are hooks from old games. The worst parts are everything else. I have used the world map music from Super Mario Bros. 3 as my cellphone ring. Nobody would chose the theme of NSMBW’s 3-1 as their music for anything.

2. Though the level design is sometimes excellent, its palette is not.
The background and foreground blend together, confusing the action. Old Mario games (from which this game draws) featured nearly blank backdrops–or in the case of Super Mario World, a deep perspective with smartly chosen colors.

3. Platforming is deliberate business.
You cannot combine the chaos of multiplayer with pixel-specific jumps. Even with constant communication, the game devolves into one person working through a difficult section while the others are trapped in invincible bubbles.”

“Despite the lack of ingenuity on display, NSMB Wii’s thrash of four players does bring uproarious anarchy to the sofa for short periods of time. (7/10)”

“Don’t get us wrong. New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a wonderful video game, but its designers drew upon 24 years of familiarity to produce an experience that makes us smile one moment and shrug the next.”

Is multiplayer fun? Sure, but not for long. Kudos to Nintendo for revisiting multiplayer in a Mario game, but it feels tacked on

“On top of that, and as good as this game is, it never wowed us like Super Mario Galaxy. Not once were we in awe of a particular level or enemy. Nintendo definitely chose to play it safe by following the same recipe that put Mario on the map.”

Expect an unbiased SDF review in the coming days.

  1. WOW, I guess SDF is pretty desperate! This game will sell at least as many, maybe more than Uncharted 2 (perhaps the best POS3 has to offer besides LBP). Say what you want about third party support, but first party games like this will sell the like POS3 will never see! Be jealous $ony fanturds, and afraid. You will remain in third place for this generation, deal with it!

  2. You do know that it’s not even that bad of a thing to be the worst Super Mario game? It’s certainly better than being the best Uncharted game *ba dum dum tish*

  3. SDF, any word on how most reviews seem to be positive. Are you lying to us again like you did when you said that the reviews for Forza 3 were bad, even though it got great reviews.

If you do not answer this we will take it as a reply that you are wrong about this game as well as Forza 3.

  4. Oh and the review that you pulled this from gave the game an 8/10. In case you aren’t paying attention this is a good score.

  5. The overall score on Metacritic so far is an 87. Good job SDF.

I am surprised they even gave it a 7. I guess if it isn’t made for Microsoft, they don’t feel obligated to hate it.

  6. I’m tempted to buy a Wii again eventually now that it is even cheaper. I miss the virtual console and Mario Galaxy. Trauma Center was also pretty interesting.

I haven/t played the game so I can’t comment on that. However, SDF needs to identify where it got its quotes from. Plagiarism isn’t appropriate under any circumstances. SDF you need to fix this now, or risk having you site shut down.

  8. SDF Must be feeling really threatened if they’re attacking the Wii. This game sold just over half a million copies in a single day in the Americas alone.
I think the SDF is just angry that in two years people will still be playing this game, but in two months no one will still be playing Uncharted 2.

  9. @Erik

So killzone 2 must be a awesome game because most of the scores are 9/10 and 10/10 right?

  10. Not really. The devs had to use a lot of Bullshots and CG hype to try to drum up interest in the game, and it was largely ignored by gamers.

  11. Also, why does the SDF have a picture of Rocky’s Manager crying?

  12. @mich99

What I will say is that a good number of people liked Killzone 2. I on the other hand couldn’t fucking stand it. It had to be one of the worst games I’ve played in years. To find another game that I despised as much as Killzone 2 I would generally have to go to newgrounds.

  13. @ seven2s

Are you kidding? Did you see the live-action Halo ads? Or the pompous promoting of the Gears of War series with their use of melancholy music which had pretty much nothing to do with what the game ended up being about?
Also, SDF you’re biting off more than you can chew. At least ragging on Microsoft you can show that they’re being destroyed in Japan but going up against Nintendo is just a bad idea.

  14. @Erik

So you dont know is the new super mario bros is good just based on that score because you have not played it because Killzone 2 got a 9/10 from most sites but u still didnt enjoy it but you did say 8/10 is a good score so 9/10 must be good too right?

  15. @Erik

So you dont know if the new super mario bros is good just based on that score because you have not played it because Killzone 2 got a 9/10 from most sites but u still didnt enjoy it but you did say 8/10 is a good score so 9/10 must be good too right?

  16. @mich99

I have more faith in a good Mario game than I do in some generic but high-res shooter. But I’m fairly confident that I would like this Mario game. On the other hand I wasn’t fairly confident that I wouldn’t like Killzone 2, I KNEW I wouldn’t like it. Playing it had no impact.

  17. That old man who gave you your first nintendo to let him touch you made an impact though didn’t it, you damn fruit loop.

  18. @Kanerilis

If one needs to be sexually molested in order to realize an over priced shit system then perhaps you should auction yourself off to some older gay dom on Craigslist.

  19. Most gamers with a brain would easily choose a finely crafted Mario game over Generic shooter #4,443,234,134

  20. Killzone is nominated on other categories like best graphics but everybody already knows that Uncharted 2 will will win . One of you xbots should make a bet with me that if uncharted loses ill never comment on this site again and if it wins then the one that bets with me has to leave. anybody up for it?

  21. Well i guess xbox360 must be full of brainless gamers because thats the shooter console.

  22. @ seven2s

I think you’ve been on this site too long you’re becoming braindead and not even reading the entire article. If you read on you’d see what you linked called the VGA’s a ‘joke’ and a ‘popularity contest’
At any rate Arkham Asylum should win hands-down anyways, much better than the sequel onslaught they chose.

  23. Sure I’ll take that bet bitch, I mean mich!

PS3 is just as much a shooter console as the 360. PS3′s offerings are just inferior in quality.

  24. I don’t care what awards Uncharted 2 wins. What awards it wins are irrelevant. All I need to know is that playing the first was sheer torture.

  25. Mich, you’re such a dumb ass.

“Well i guess xbox360 must be full of brainless gamers because thats the shooter console.”

Umm, Uncharted, Killzone (snorefest), MAG (more like LAG). Seven2s was right, POS3 has it’s fair share as well, they just all suck. Most likely the craptastic controller. God I hate the POS3/PS2/PS controllers!

  26. The Playstation controllers are rather subpar when it comes to shooters. But I prefer them over the 360 controllers when it comes to fighters. And when I tried to play the demo of Beautiful Katamari on the 360, that was near fucking impossible. So if I wanted to play that game I would have to play it on the PS3. Which means that I probably won’t be playing it.

  27. InfraredChimera Says:
    November 19th, 2009 at 5:45 pm

Borderlands is my personal GOTY (even though I’m playing nothing but MW2 for the last week). But I wouldn’t be surprised if Uncharted 2 takes a few awards (and there rightfully deserved).

    @erik

So you won’t even play Katamari Foerever based upon the fact its on the PS3.

  28. @InfaredChimera

Yes, I thought I already made that point clear by now.

  29. Also, I think they mislabeled the article. It should have read: SDF 1.5 reviews are in, one word: “disappointment”
Because I gotta tell ya, one hilariously terrible news story every one to two months sure beat four+ just plain terrible ones. The SDF 1.5 staff lack the creativity the original staff did. Also, El Presario is a very bad stereotype of homeless Chinese people.

  30. test

  31. There are reports that sony is considering subscriptions for PSN – for “premium content”

  32. @seven2s

I hope you keep your word then because ill keep mine.If uncharted 2 wins the game of the year award then you never gonna comment here again [Probably will with a different username] . I really was wishing that erik would have taken the bet.

  33. No I have just the one. It takes too much effort to make multiple accounts. You have to sign up for a new email address somewhere, then you have to sign up here again. The “New and Improved” SDF just isn’t worth cheating a bet over.

But you do know that it has to win GOTY for the VGA. Showing me PSM’s GOTY pick won’t count.

  34. Lol, yeah I heard about that “premium” membership shit!
Sony: If it works for them, we’ll make our own version and claim we patented the idea first!

  35. Yea i know its VGA GOTY award that it has to win.

  36. RainbowSeven Says:
    November 20th, 2009 at 5:18 pm

Hey, SDF, how about a report on how the new God of War Collection keeps freezing up in 60GB/Slim consoles?

This Fail proudly brought to you by $ONY.

  37. @mich99

Why would I take that bet? It is very possible that Uncharted 2 will win some kind of award. Style over substance often does prove to be rather popular. You could put up a non interactive graphics demo and it could still probably win game of the year.

So just why would I make that bet? How about this. If Uncharted 2 wins an award I’ll post here twice as much. How about that?

  38. Rainbowseven,
LOL, yeah! But that would mean that Sony’s dev team made a mistake, and according to the SDF that CAN’T happen. So WORLD ASPLODE!!!

  39. @Rainbowseven

Its also funny how you dont mention the 93 metacritic score it has . How many exclusive 360 games have score more than a 90 on metacritic this year?

And what about the halo:ODST disc problems? Forgot about that?

    http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009/09/25/halo-3-odst-disc-read-error-complaints-reported/

  40. And its also sad that arcade owners wont be able to fully experience Forza 3 without having to buy one of MS HDD . Well they aint missing much.

  41. And Microsoft fails again :
    http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/10/16/unauthorized-xbox-360-storage-devices.aspx

I dont even know how you guys put up with this kind of rip-off.I wouldnt be surprise if M$ releases shit and named it shit 360 and i bet it would still sell.

  42. Well Mich, the difference being that God of War collection is developed by Sony’s own in house development team. LOL! It only does everything!
Pretty sad how Dude Raider 2 took longer to hit a million sales then some third rate racing game, right?

  43. @mich99

I don’t see how not being able to use some cheap knockoff memory card is such a big loss. At least you aren’t forced into paying out the ass for useless bloated features. Why does the P$3 force people to pay for fucking useless ass wi-fi. Why did they opt to use the gaming useless media format of blu-ray just to try to be an over priced multi-media machine. Why did they not opt to have the HDD be optional? If you want to know all of the other useless features people are forced to pay for then ask tendonut, he knows them so well that I’ve pondered if he could perhaps be one of those Sony employees who post on the internet pretending to be ordinary people to try and make their company’s shit look better than it really is.

  44. @erik

You know, I could say the same thing about you with Sony. At least I take a neutral stand between the two systems. You hate the PS3 so much people think you’re a troll.

    @mich99

You do kind of have a point with the PS3/360 Metacritic scores over a 90 this year. The 360 has Forza 3 and the PS3 has Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2 (which I don’t really agree with at all). I wouldn’t really count God of War Collection since its just a re-release of two games from the PS2. Nothing in the game has been modified other than it’s resolution. But if you want to see total games above a 90 since the launch of both systems, its 19 for the PS3 (4 exclusive) and 26 for the 360 (7 exclusive).

  45. @Erik

You would give $130 for a 120 HDD when you can get a 500 HDD for less? Damn you are such a xbox fan and you might not like some features but other people do . I for one use the wi-fi that way i dont have any cables around and i also enjoy my blu-rays movies [If it were useless then most cinematic companies wouldn't have support it back then] And having a optional HDD already have been proven to be a major mistake. Just look at Forza 3, Everybody that owns a arcade system just got shafted by the second disc. Now that both system are in a equal price, The ps3 gives more value to your money.

  46. @tendonut

“You know, I could say the same thing about you with Sony. At least I take a neutral stand between the two systems. You hate the PS3 so much people think you’re a troll.”

My dislike of the PS3 doesn’t stem from liking the 360. My dislike from the PS3 comes from my dislike of the PS3. I have no interest really in singing praises for the 360. Instead I would rather tear the PS3 down.

    @mich99

“You would give $130 for a 120 HDD when you can get a 500 HDD for less?”

That is the complete opposite of what I said. What I said was I would like to have the option to NOT have a hard drive. That comes to $0, not $120.

“I for one use the wi-fi that way i dont have any cables around”

I don’t use the wi-fi, but that doesn’t mean that I didn’t pay for it with the system’s bloated cost. On the other hand for the 360 I can get wi-fi if I so choose. But if it works out because I don’t have any immediate plans in which I would need it I don’t have to pay for something that likely will not happen.

“If it were useless then most cinematic companies wouldn’t have support it back then”

I didn’t mention blu-ray’s performance as far as video goes. There is no question that it is good for that use. But I mentioned it’s short comings as far as gaming. It has a piss poor seek time, which means a lot of the discs supposedly impressive storage is taken up by repeated data to cut down on just how far the laser has to stray to find what it is looking for.

“Just look at Forza 3, Everybody that owns a arcade system just got shafted by the second disc.”

And everyone who doesn’t want Forza 3 benefit in that having the option to buy an HDD free system that supports that choice. On the other hand everyone who has no need for a HDD on the P$3 gets the shaft.

  47. Well lets just hope that for the next gen, They come up with a Built your own console workshop. That way you can only put in want you want without the unnecessary features.

  48. @mich99

You mean sort of like the 360?

  49. Well if you planing to build a console that breaks once every 3 months, Then yea.

  50. @mich99

One of my favorite consoles of all time broke on me about that often. No not the 360, that has been rather reliable. I’m talking about the PS2. I’ve owned like five of those things. So I can put up with that if the console is good. And I would prefer a console that I play and breaks every three months, over one I’ve not played in three months. I’d prefer one that breaks every three months over one that I want to break.

  51. “Between this and Super Mario Galaxy.” Cute. Nevermind that they’re just saying that NSMB just doesn’t feel as new as Galaxy did. And that the reviews are still unanimously positive. And that Galaxy is one of the most highly acclaimed game this generation, from critics and gamers alike.

  52. What a piece of shit LOL.Just like 360 2009 lineup SHIT!

    @ mich99

Firstly, I wasn’t saying anything about the review scores, I was just talking about how the game keeps freezing. (I still bought it, though.)

Secondly, Halo: ODST is a shit rip-off expansion. I hate it and have never been a proponent of it. I think it is a complete Fail of a game.
    Halo 3 also sucks.
But, by your logic, it must be a great game, because it received a score of 94 on Metacritic…

  54. I think Wii does a better job of being a game console quite honestly. That’s not saying it’s more powerful, it’s not. It has a couple of extra features like news, weather, and a modest browser, but it’s advertised first and foremost to do what? Play games.
The other two are advertised as multimedia monoliths…that also happen to play games.

  55. Well, If you guys dont like features and bells in your consoles then just go back to the N64 era.

  56. Works for me. Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy VII, Banjo-Kazooie, Crono Cross, Spyro games that are actually decent, no stupid San Andreas clones…

  57. Mich, some people buy game consoles to play games on them. Nothing more, nothing less. That’s why the Wii has achieved total market saturation in Japan. People wanted a GAME console. Everyone has one, hence why the sales are leveling out.

  58. Pannic, I’ll take a piece of that action!

  59. Most funny video on youtube.

Even the Marines hate the X BOT

  60. @mich99

  61. RainbowSeven Says:

    @ mich99

The N64 was the greatest console ever made, so I would be quite happy to go back it.
No moving parts = consoles that don’t break.

And no-one has ever made better games than OoT, Majora’s Mask, GoldenEye, SM64, Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Perfect Dark and DK64.

  62. Fuck you RainbowSeven, SNES all the way.

  63. I would have a hard time deciding between SNES, PS2, and Dreamcast.

  64. Though for systems I would never want I would want removed from reality I would have a hard time deciding between the Sega CD, PS3, and Nokia N-Gage.

  65. Giban, Marines are welcomed to hate whatever the FUCK they want. They’re the ones out there getting shot at, that earns them the right.

    Also
“New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii) – 10/10/10/10″, Famitsu.

  66. @erik

“Though for systems I would never want I would want removed from reality I would have a hard time deciding between the Sega CD, PS3, and Nokia N-Gage.”

Yeah, except the PS3 has awesome support, a fanbase, and is generally liked by gamers. The CD was a total disaster and had literally 15 games total, and the N-Gage was more or less a tech demo Nokia didn’t think through.

But on the topic of the N-Gage, it did open up the world of serious mobile gaming. It’s platform was ported to other phones which is making mobile phone gaming legitimate and not just clones of Snake and Tetris over and over.

  67. @tendonut

“Yeah, except the PS3 has awesome support”

    Arguable

    “a fanbase”

They have a large assortment of organisms which could possibly be refereed to as people.

“The CD was a total disaster and had literally 15 games total”

And yet my total playtime of the CD and my total playtime of the PS3 are about equal. And I actually liked Sonic CD. I don’t really have any parallel game as that on the PS3.

“and the N-Gage was more or less a tech demo Nokia didn’t think through. ”

That is pretty much what I consider the PS3 to be.

  68. And something I forgot. As far as “generally liked by gamers”, no. It is generally liked by yuppie kids who don’t care about games or taste. But just have something to gloat over as they wave the price tag under the noses of the poorer kids.

  69. InfraredChimera Says:

    @erik

Sega CD was bullshit by the highest degree. Talk about style over substance (more than a few games that have FMV as “gameplay” come to mind) and that was the mecha for that. Sure it had a few good games, but by all means the PS3 has more support than that crap add-on.

  70. @InfaredChimera

“Sega CD was bullshit by the highest degree. Talk about style over substance (more than a few games that have FMV as “gameplay” come to mind)”

That sounds strangely like something else. Hm, just *what* could that be?

  71. I’ve been mulling over if and when to destroy my PS3. On one hand I’ve not turned it on in months so I wouldn’t be destroying anything with any “active” value to me. But on the other hand I did spend far far too much money on it that I wouldn’t want to just vanish if I destroyed it. But it is very likely that I could go another three months without so much as turning it on.

Perhaps if I bashed myself over the head enough times with a hammer I will both not be able to recall or fathom my ideals nor will have the IQ to giggle and drool like a proper PS3 fan.

I’m not sure. I don’t know if I’m lamenting because I want to enjoy the PS3, but don’t have the capability to do so. Is it possible for one to lament because they want to be dumb?

I’ve changed my mind regarding LBP and MGS4 and decided that I loathe them as much as Killzone 2. But did I actually like them? Or was I trying to just fool myself into liking them to try and justify the large pile of cash I spent on this system.

I would like to play a game like Eight Days, and I am really in a need of an RPG, but I cannot bring myself to play Demon’s Souls.

I suppose I bought my PS3, thinking that I would be able to pick up where I was with the PS2 and just enjoy it. I guess I was wrong.

Did you try Valkyria Chronicles yet? It was made by Sega and put out last fall to little publicitya by Sega, but it is definitly worth checking out. First of all its a strategy/rpg/shooter (kinda hard to explain), great character development, and above all it has a great pace too it. The shitty thing is that the sequel is being made for the PSP(!?!), but on the bright side its $20 new and worth every penny if not more.
Basically its a gem of a game that Sega said “fuck that game, lets concentrate our ad dollars on another shitty Sonic game”.

  78. @InfaredChimera

    What system is that for?

  79. InfraredChimera Says:
    November 25th, 2009 at 5:14 pm

Either way Valkyria Chronicles is a game that (even as much you loathe the PS3) is worth playing if you got a PS3. I would hope sometime it would come out for more platforms since it is a very good game.

  80. @seven2s

Damn i knew xbots were dumb but not this dumb. Dont you know how to read a news article? its not saying they going to start charging for the features already available to the psn. ill be able to play online for free dummy.

  81. @mich99

Well that depends on what you mean by playing online. There are many MW2 PS3 players who could not play online. It is a good thing that the PS3 version of MW2 didn’t sell as much as the 360 version, or the PSN free-shit servers would have really fallen to their knees!

    @InfaredChimera

But is Valkyrie Chronicles being a good game enough to gloss over the mistakes of the PS3? I don’t think so. I don’t care if the PS3 has good games, all that matters is they had no good games. I don’t care if the PS3 is affordable, all that matters is that it wasn’t affordable.

If someone who did terrible things to you wants to atone and be your friend, well tough shit for them. Pretend you are their friend only to give you time to bash them in the skull with a brick. Never forget, never forgive.

  82. http://videogames.yahoo.com/events/playback/playback-92/1376452

And i was starting to think they fixed it. I guess not .

  83. If we didnt count every RROD xbox360 that has been sold then i bet the ps3 would have surpassed it.

  84. @mich99

Unfortunately for you you do NOT get the luxury if ignoring them. Because still more people would rather buy a system they know is going to fail on them than to buy the PS3. How pathetic for the PS3.

But as the PS2 has shown, if you have a good system then people are willing to look the other way on hardware failure issues.

  85. The 360 is having more hardware failures then the ps2 ever had.i have only own a ps2 and it broke last year after owning it for 4 years . This just futher proof my concept that xbots are just people who would buy shit if it was sold to them. Right now i think the 360 is the most faulty console in history. That must be a world record. 60%?!!! thats more than half!! This combined with the recent banned of consoles . im starting to think MS is doing this on purpose.

  86. InfraredChimera Says:
    November 26th, 2009 at 3:30 pm

    @mich99

While the 360 is a pile of shit hardware wise compared to the PS3, the truth of the fact is that the 360 does have a amazing software library. For fucks sake it took two years for me to even find a good enough reason to buy a PS3 in the first place (and I do enjoy it).
Games are what sells consoles and apperantly this time around people are going for a Microsoft made console.

  87. @mich99

Do NOT try to tell me that the PS2 didn’t have a massive amount of hardware failures. I’ve owned around 5 of them. Thankfully the library of games made it all worthwhile. Now this gen? I have another system with an awesome library that is known to have hardware failures. It is just made by a different company.

“This just futher proof my concept that xbots are just people who would buy shit if it was sold to them.”

I could have tried to deny this some months ago. But then I bought the PS3. Yes I would buy shit if it was sold to me. That shit now sits shoved into the back of my entertainment center. If on a rare occasion I feel like watching a Blu-Ray movie I will bring it out. Otherwise that shit sits and gathers dust.

“That must be a world record. 60%?!!! ”

You must have missed the part where they said that running a poll in such a manner is in no way accurate. But really, I don’t give a fuck if the system breaks or not. I care about the games.

“This combined with the recent banned of consoles . im starting to think MS is doing this on purpose.”

You mean consoles modified to play pirated games? You expected them to allow that? Really?

Now what we really need to ask “What are you thinking!?” is Sony. The system releases for $600, far out of reach of a vast number of much of their consumers. Then the “get a second job” comment which they might as well just have said “Fuck you” to their customers. Then to in a half-assed attempt to bring down the price they take out the one feature in the bloated-feature-hog that people give a damn about, backwards compatibility. Continuing to fail over and over on multi-platform releases with a failure to obtain DLC. Then we come to their online service, which makes you beg that you could chip in some money every month to improve. Then we come to the failure of Home. And now the current failure that is the PSP Go, which removed the UMD, slashing and burning the PSP library.

I really think that Sony is trying to kill their brand on purpose.

  88. Yea thanks for microsoft making popular DLC when we could have had it for free from the start, Like the good old days when the only way you could get something new was by beating the game . Not by purchasing contents that are already on the disk.

And you went through 5 PS2? maybe you are the one with the problem and not the Ps2,Of course consoles break from time to time but 60% of the time? thats unbelievable. The 60% aint new. Every time i see a poll about the RROD it aint good.

It also sucks that most people dont get to experience this “awesome” game library when their console is broke. You stay with the 600 price tag when the ps3 cost half now, Dont you think its time to move on?

  89. For anyone that said that the ps3 slim effect is over:

“Yea thanks for microsoft making popular DLC when we could have had it for free from the start, Like the good old days when the only way you could get something new was by beating the game . Not by purchasing contents that are already on the disk.”

Actually, no. There is every possibility that some content was not conceived of at the time of the game’s release. But if a developer gets a new idea they are supposed to what now? Just shrug and say “It’s already out. Oh well.” But as a PS3 fanboy I should pretty much know that you have no interest in content.

“And you went through 5 PS2? maybe you are the one with the problem and not the Ps2,Of course consoles break from time to time but 60% of the time? thats unbelievable. The 60% aint new. Every time i see a poll about the RROD it aint good.”

There is no way that I could be the problem, as the systems weren’t subjected to any non-standard use. If through standard use it breaks, then that is a design problem and not a user problem.

As far as that poll goes. Yet again, the people who created the poll themselves said that it wasn’t entirely valid.

“It also sucks that most people dont get to experience this “awesome” game library when their console is broke.”

Yes it does suck when that happens. But when it happened I just gave Sony the benefit of the doubt since I liked the system’s library.

“You stay with the 600 price tag when the ps3 cost half now, Dont you think its time to move on?”

Nope. Especially when the starting price should have been much lower then reduced in price after that to lower than it is now. If this is the price they lowered to from that obscene price, just imagine what the price could have been in they reduced from a sane release price.

  91. So lets say you go out to buy a Tv, You see one that says it has great picture and all but the only negative thing is that it has a 30% of breaking [im being nice here] You would still buy it?

  92. @mich99

Considering how many PS2s I bought, yes. That is if it is a good enough tv.

    1. this quote is fail and full of stupidity.
    2. MS or Sony is not the deciding factor what gets put on disc, thats up to the publisher/developer.
    3. The publisher/developer of said game usually has a release schedule for DLC (if there is any).
    4. The only reason companies like Namco/Bandai (being the #1 culprit) is that people keep buying the “DLC” and that said company keeps thinking its ok to do.

  94. @erik

    You’re so full of lulz.

“I don’t care if the PS3 has good games, all that matters is they had no good games. I don’t care if the PS3 is affordable, all that matters is that it wasn’t affordable.”

Yet you bought it anyways. You’re a tool. And I still have a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that you’re serious. The 360 didn’t have any games originally. What makes that so different now that it has an awesome lineup? The PS3 has a perfectly fine lineup of exclusives according to everyone but you. Must be lonely there on your pedestal.

  95. @tendonut

    “Yet you bought it anyways.”

I’m human. I make mistakes. Some bigger than others. Buying a PS3 was a pretty big mistake.

“The 360 didn’t have any games originally.”

The 360 is this generation’s PS2. All it has and all it had are just it’s titles alone. And as the PS2 showed, a great library trumps all. Hell you can go further back than that. The SNES with it’s great library beat out the much more powerful 3D0.

“The PS3 has a perfectly fine lineup of exclusives according to everyone but you.”

I really don’t give a fuck about the PS3′s games. Exclusive or not.

  96. @erik

    “The 360 is this generation’s PS2″

Yes, but not originally, yet you overcame your skepticism when it finally got games. The launch titles for the 360 and even games almost a year up to that were crap (mostly because it was the first current-gen system on the market). Same situation as with the PS3, only it took the PS3 considerably longer to get a lineup worth mentioning.

  97. @erik

Waaah waaah I’m erik waah waah I was a big toolbag and dropped money on a system I clearly knew nothing because of peer pressure. Buying it now wouldn’t be a mistake but I am going to hold a grudge against..myself….and not buy any games for the system..that I own…based off the principal that it took fucking forever to get games worth mentioning and my feelings are hurt. So I’m going to punish myself now and flame on forums.

  98. @tendonut

I have admitted that buying the system was, and still would be, a mistake. So what’s your problem again?

  99. @erik

My problem is you already own it, yet are punishing yourself by not using it. You prove nothing, you accomplish nothing, you hurt no one but yourself and worst of all, you won’t STFU and get rid of it and move on with your sad angry lonely life.

This is the same thing as me saying I bought a Motorola Droid because of the hype, turned out to have way more features than I needed and the app store wasn’t up and running yet. But because I am a big toolbag and want to hurt myself/look retarded, I just let it sit on the desk and hit the “Ignore” button every time someone calls. That’ll show…someone….I won’t return it or sell it to someone who would be able to take advantage of it, I’ll just throw a hissy fit and talk about how much it doesn’t suck 3 years down the line when it is widely used, pretty well supported and significantly cheaper because I was disappointed when I originally bought it.

Most people when they buy something that turns out to be a bad idea, they make sure they get everything they can out of it so it won’t be as painful to watch $400-$600 go down the drain. But you’re doing the exact opposite. You’re making it even MORE painful to watch your money get pissed away like you get off on being angry at yourself. It’s rather curious and frankly, idiotic.

  100. @erik

Holy shit, I just had a thought. How old are you? This is EXACTLY what spoiled little kids would do when they convince their parents to buy something they change their mind for. Because it’s not their money, they don’t care if it gets wasted.

That’s it! You’re probably 15-16 living at home and got a PS3 for your birthday/Christmas from your parents/grandparents. Not saying anything is wrong with that, but that totally explains your passive attitude about pissing on your massive purchase.

  101. @tendonut

“My problem is you already own it, yet are punishing yourself by not using it. ”

BZZZZZ Wrong. Sorry. But you see I am not using something I don’t like. You see, that is what people do with things that they don’t like, they don’t use them. Do you need me to simplify that any more for you?

“Most people when they buy something that turns out to be a bad idea, they make sure they get everything they can out of it so it won’t be as painful to watch $400-$600 go down the drain.”

Actually no. That is the exact opposite of what people do with something that turns out to be a bad idea.

Are you like mentally retarded? I mean not full blown Downs syndrome. But like a touch of an extra chromosome or something? In your worldview when people buy something they don’t like they use it MORE? Really? Honestly? Is that really how your mind works?

So when I bought the musical equivalent of a root canal known as St. Anger rather than snapping the disc in half and pitching it in the garbage I should have listened to it morning noon and night? Really?

Frankly that is a really idiotic manner of thought.

  102. No, you’ve said time and time again, you don’t like the PS3 because it’s a feature laden POS. It still DOES what you want it to do, and that is play games. You’ve even said there are games you would play on it, but because they are on the PS3, you want to know nothing about them. You want to pretend these games don’t even exist, because it wouldn’t strengthen your anti-opinion on them. Your excuses for not liking it are a year out of date but your personal vendetta against yourself is keeping you from just shutting up and deal with what has become a decent gaming machine. Here are some quotes demonstrating your problem because I am bored, beat God of War 1 and 2 this weekend and my fucking Xbox RROD on Wednesday as well..FUCK…

“I don’t have an opinion of Demon’s Souls. I deny it’s existence. I won’t have an opinion of MAG, Heavy Rain, or God of War 3 (among other games. Can’t think of any more at the moment). I deny their existence”

“This will make things a little [more] convenient. A list of games to ignore:

    http://www.denofgeek.com/games/341120/top_10_upcoming_playstation_3_exclusives.html

“No I refuse to play it because I’m afraid to become like you and InfaredChimera”

“…do you really honestly think that Demon’s Souls being an RPG is what would keep me away from the game.”

“What I like isn’t the issue here. So let me ask again: Why should I betray my ideals and care about the existence of Demon’s Souls?”

“But the point is the reason I dislike the PS3 can’t just be glossed over by fixing their mistakes. So they can put out all the games and drop the price as low as they want. I’ll still ignore Demon’s Souls and God of War 3.”

  103. @tendonut

“No, you’ve said time and time again, you don’t like the PS3 because it’s a feature laden POS.”

Therefore I don’t like it. I don’t use things I don’t like. Most normal people do not use things that they don’t like. You are the only person I’ve ever communicated with that suggests that one should force themselves to use something that they don’t like.

  104. @erik

“You are the only person I’ve ever communicated with that suggests that one should force themselves to use something that they don’t like”

Your excuse is not that you don’t like the games, (since obviously games dont seem to sell you on systems). You want to know nothing about the games, whether they are good or not. You want to know nothing. Period. You don’t care if they would be great or not. Your grudge is with everything BUT the games which is an insult to gamers worldwide. Your excuse is something even more idiotic. The HARDWARE that plays the games has features you don’t need/want and raised the price accordingly (back in the day)

But your excuse of not liking it because it has too many features is invalidated when you already own it. That’s the kind of excuse you use to explain why its not worth your money in the first place. Doesn’t really work retroactively.

Would you not drive a car with a navigational system after you bought it because it’s a feature you don’t need? Or a CD changer? Or Sirius XM Radio? No, you’d say “Well I don’t need that” then drive your car anyways, just not using the unnecessary features. That would be dumb. You just spent big bucks on that car. It doesn’t make your car drive slower, it’s just a feature you got sucked into buying but didn’t need. You’ve got it, you don’t have to USE those features. You don’t just flat out hate your car and keep it in the garage because it has stuff you don’t need. That’s essentially what you are doing.

I really don’t need the digital compass/auto-dimmer in my Mazda3′s rear view mirror, but I love my car regardless and drive it constantly. (Got it new and it just broke 54,000 miles this morning)

  105. @tendonut

I don’t know how to break this down for you any further. I will admit that buying it was a mistake. But just because I did buy it does not mean I should play it just because I spent money on it. That would just make that mistake all the worse. Because now would I not only be out a few hundred dollars, but I would also put myself through the torture of playing it. So why would I choose two negatives when I could have just one?

“But your excuse of not liking it because it has too many features is invalidated when you already own it.”

That does not make any sense whatsoever. You know that right? What? I’m suddenly supposed to magically like those features? Does the system have some sort of mind control feature that I am unaware of. I do not see why I should not be able to impartially scrutinize it in the same manner regardless of if I own it or not.

“Would you not drive a car with a navigational system after you bought it because it’s a feature you don’t need? Or a CD changer? Or Sirius XM Radio?”

Yes, quite possibly. So say I bought a car with a smoothie maker, dog brusher, and heart rate monitor I would come to the conclusion that as I don’t like those parts of the car, that I would not like the car that those parts make up.

  106. I do not want a blu-ray player, the PS3 is a blu-ray player. I do not want the option of installing an OS, which the PS3 can do. I do not want want plug and play interface with items such as blue tooth, which the PS3 can do. I do not want the ability to transfer my files to general storage devices, which the PS3 can.

Those things ARE the system. If I don’t like the things which are the system, then I do not like the system.

  107. http://www.techfresh.net/wp-content/uploads/2006/12/swiss-army-everything.jpg

So say in the above image that you dislike all but 2 selections of what that knife has to offer, how do you think that you would describe how you would think about that knife?

  108. Superfluous!

  109. @tendonut

But let me ask you something. Lets say that I would just give up and do what you say and just play my PS3. I am curious to just how you think that would turn out. Would it be something you think would turn out positive?

    @Infaredchimera

A variant of that question for you. When I played Killzone 2, did you think there was even a remote chance that I would say “Wow, that was fun and great. Yay PS3″? Was that actually a possibility in your mind?

  110. @erik

I think it would turn out well. Since there appears to be games that would interest you on it despite you wanting to know nothing about them, I think you’d play them and like them. You already claim to like the few you own. You don’t have to like all the other stuff the PS3 does, but it still does play games. And isn’t that why you bought it in the first place?

With your car analogy response about a theoretical car having a dog groomer and a smoothie maker as such, if it wasn’t intrusive and didn’t effect the car’s primary purpose, why wouldn’t you just ignore the useless features and drive the car you bought for the purpose of driving? I’d understand you not wanting to buy the car initially because it has a lot of stuff you don’t need and most people would pass it up right the bat, but since you already have it, and it still does what you want, why not use it as you originally planned?

And don’t bring up the whole blu-ray hurting the gaming experience. The reason the PS3 HAD to have a HDD because Sony KNEW it was a bad idea for games due to the load times for larger games so to remedy that, larger games have partial installs to mask that flaw. It was a mistake for gaming but it doesn’t interfere with gaming itself. It just raised the price to an unnecessary point which turned a LOT of people off (which it has now overcome FINALLY).

  111. @erik

Oh, and I did not like Killzone 2 at all, even though I only played the demo. And what sucked even more life out of it was it didn’t have co-op missions. It would be PERFECT for co-op! PERFECT! But they cut it. Not worth my money.

  112. @tendonut

“I think it would turn out well.”

Well I’m sorry you are wrong. InfaredChimera thought there was a chance that since previously I didn’t play Killzone 2 there was a chance that the experience would be positive. It was not.

But really, do I have to do that? Will by torturing myself by playing the system finally get you to understand that I fucking hate the system? Is that what you want?

  113. @erik

You hate the system, but you don’t hate the games. You know nothing about them. And because the system still plays games you would most likely like, it would be nice for you to just ignore the 20 things it does that you don’t care about and use it for the one thing you want it for. To play games. You do like video games, don’t you? You’re missing quite a few hit titles this generation by not using the system you own. Isn’t that why you bought it anyways? It’s not like the unnecessary features get in the way of you using it like you want. You could just pretend they aren’t there. And its not like you are turned off from buying it because you are paying for features you don’t need. You’re already past that hurdle.

  114. @tendonut

I am telling you that whatever game on the PS3 there was, is, or ever will be that I would not enjoy playing. Before it I heard it was coming out for the 360 I was perfectly willing to miss out on Final Fantasy 13. Even though it is a franchise that I have not missed a single game for DECADES.

So if I’m willing to give up on a franchise I’ve followed since the NES days, do you honestly think that you have a valid point? I hate the PS3′s games. I hate the PS3′s games. I hate the PS3′s games. Fuck InFamous, Fuck MGS4, Fuck Demon’s Souls, Fuck Uncharted, Fuck Uncharted 2, Fuck MAG.

  115. @erik

    Another car analogy.

You spent $200k on a Porsche 911. You bought it because you want to look cool and drive fast. Once you buy it, you find out hidden in a compartment in the trunk was a smoothie maker, a dog groomer, and some other ridiculous things you would never need. It came with the car. You realize you paid extra for it as well. What would you do? Ignore them and drive the car since it does what you wanted it to do? Get you girls and drive fast? Or would you throw a hissy fit and park it in the garage and bitch about all the extra crap it came with while never driving it again? Because the latter is exactly what you are doing.

  116. @erik

“Before it I heard it was coming out for the 360 I was perfectly willing to miss out on Final Fantasy 13″

But this just proves my point of you being stubborn and irrational. You are intentionally passing up on what is going to become an incredible game just because it’s on a system you hate based on the fact that it has features you don’t care about. Doesn’t that sound a bit ridiculous, considering you already have the system?

  117. @tendonut

“But this just proves my point of you being stubborn and irrational.”

It doesn’t matter why I would dislike playing said games. All that matters is that I would loathe to play them.

“Doesn’t that sound a bit ridiculous, considering you already have the system?”

The only ridiculous thing is that I own the system.

  118. @erik

Respond to the car analogy. It’s more relevant.

And it also seems like you don’t dislike the games, you just refuse to play them because they are on the PS3. That’s is what it comes down with and you have made your point very clear.

  119. @tendonut

I am telling you that I would loathe to play any of those games and not enjoy them in the slightest.

But the car analogy? Very well. I remember at one time I had to move my aunt’s car into a more convienient parking spot to allow other house guests to leave. Between the car talking, and the HUD of speed and other information projected onto the windshield I hoped to never again have to touch that car.

  120. @erik

See, that would be VERY reasonable. They were very in your face and obstructive. I’d be annoyed by it as well.

None of the extra features you paid for in the PS3 interfere with it’s ability to play games at the slightest. It is just as streamlined and efficient as the 360. Turn the system on, pop in a game, on the XMB go to Games > [Game]. Same thing for the Xbox. Turn the system on, go to Library > [Game].

Your analogy seems to miss the point. You can ignore the features of the PS3. You clearly couldn’t ignore the annoyances of your aunts car.

  121. @tendonut

Okay, well there is one problem. You see the one feature of the PS3 I hate above all others is the game playing feature. How about that?

  122. @erik

Wow..well..I guess you really aren’t a gamer. I really don’t know how to respond to that.

  123. @tendonut

I’m not a gamer because I don’t like one system?

So I guess owning a couple ataris, NES, Genesis, SNES, N64, PS1, Dreamcast, gameboy, gamegear, gameboy advance, PS2, 360 and numerous PC games doesn’t count then?

  124. I wish you guys would all stop fake-arguing with one-another and just post more funny headlines

  125. @taygee

How the fuck would I post a headline?

  126. @erik

Everyone has their own valid reasons for disliking/hating a specific system..but you really don’t (anymore). You just hate it indefinitely without any real concrete reason. It’s just mindblowing. It is really hard to take you serious when you can’t really thoroughly explain why you hate it. You claim you have, but you just base your reasoning off some other baseless claim of hatred.

I mean, all we pretty much know is you hate all PS3 games because they are on the PS3. Doesn’t matter if you KNOW they are incredible. You won’t give them the time of day. You hate the PS3 because you are upset you bought it back when it was overpriced. That sucks, I know. It would have been wiser to wait it out for it to become more promising. That’s what I did. But you haven’t explained why you STILL hate it despite them fixing pretty much all of their problems. Using your logic, we should still hate Japan because they bombed us over 60 years ago. Remind me to never put you in charge of anything political or diplomatic. You’d end the world. And besides, the PS3 is an inanimate object. Not a person. I don’t go hating on bananas because I got a bad one 3 years ago.

Has your Xbox red-ringed yet? Mine did Wednesday while streaming Step Brothers on Netflix. Fucking lame. Had to bring my PS3 with me for the weekend instead of my 360 like I planned. Is there a reason you don’t despise Microsoft for releasing the system when it was clearly unstable, even though they fixed the problem? I’d be pretty bitter about that because it actually inconveniences you with the whole shipping out and waiting process.

  127. @taygee

That’s why I keep refreshing this site. I am waiting for a new awesome headline so I can lol with my co-workers at the ridiculousness that is SDF. (and finding more erik comments to respond to)

  128. @tendonut

“You just hate it indefinitely without any real concrete reason. ”

Good. And I only hope that I can hate it more in the future than I do now. My only regret is that I don’t hate it enough.

“I mean, all we pretty much know is you hate all PS3 games because they are on the PS3. Doesn’t matter if you KNOW they are incredible. You won’t give them the time of day.”

    True.

“But you haven’t explained why you STILL hate it despite them fixing pretty much all of their problems.”

Because fixing those problems does not mean that those problems never happened.

“Is there a reason you don’t despise Microsoft for releasing the system when it was clearly unstable, even though they fixed the problem?”

Because the PS2 has hardened me against that. After buying 5 PS2s with NO warranty, the 360′s problems are child’s play.

  129. @tendonut & @erik,

if you both (assuming you’re not the same person) think that it’s believable to say the exact same frickin’ things over and over and over and not have an objective reader come to the conclusion that you’re doing so deliberately – well, in some cases your probably right as regards most – but not all.

it’s tiring and less funny than the lack of frequent fake posting on this site.

in short – you can stop, now.

  130. @taygee

If you are implying that I run SDF, well I can laugh my ass of at you at just how piss poor your senses on such matters are.

And of course I say the same things over and over. Because my opinion does not change.

  131. @erik

“Because fixing those problems does not mean that those problems never happened.”

“Because the PS2 has hardened me against that. After buying 5 PS2s with NO warranty, the 360’s problems are child’s play.”

These are not the same things? Company fucking up, then fixing it later?

  132. @tendonut

No. Because I’ve never had a reliable PS2.

  133. @erik

OOOOH, so because they actually fixed the problem and didn’t just say “meh, whatever”, that’s why you hate them. I get it. Carry on.

  134. @tendonut

Actually you don’t get it. I am willing to forgive Sony for the mistakes of the PS2 that they never fixed, because they never really bothered me in the first place. But the PS3 is a different story. That is an insult that can be fixed by neither time or action.

  135. @erik

Yeah, having to keep replacing your system 4 times wouldn’t bother anyone, but having to ignore my integrated blu-ray player, FUCK, who’d want to do that?

  136. @tendonut

The PS2 is a good system. I would replace it as many times as needed. My PS3 on the other hand, well I can’t say for certain at any given time if it’s broken or not, as I would have to turn it on to tell that, which it rarely is. But it if would ever break it would NOT be replaced.

  137. well, if you’re not fake (of which I am not certain), then you’re both incredibly insipid, moronic idiots.

is tendonut going to convince erik to change erik’s mind? no.

is erik going to convince tendonut that erik’s point of view is valid? no.

insanity == repeating the same thing over and over expecting a different result.

therefore, i was doing “both of you” (still not convinced you’re not the same person) a favour by not assuming you were insane, and that you were instead a furtherance of the site-based joke.

perhaps I was being too kind.

  138. @taygee

“well, if you’re not fake (of which I am not certain), then you’re both incredibly insipid, moronic idiots.”

Says the person who believes we are both the same person and write for SDF.

  139. my logic, rather than correct or not, has much more of a foundation than any “yes it is!/no it isn’t!” juvenile purposeless repetetiveness.

  140. Too bad it’s incorrect? For all of your self righteous ego it doesn’t do you a bit of good does it?

  141. Im am gonna play spectator now. My shift is almost over anyways.

  142. SDF can’t post that Sony owned Black Friday. Nintendo did.

  143. InfraredChimera Says:

Do you mean that in some kind of a sarcastic ironic way or something?

  145. @tendonut

So lets say theoretically if I were go play every single PS3 exclusive. Uncharted 2, Demon’s Souls, God of War 3, etc. Then if I did hate every single one of them like I said I would. Would you then accept the possibility that perhaps it is possible for me to hate every single PS3 game?

I knew that I was going to hate the original Uncharted, being that it is a PS3 game, before I even played it. I had made up my mind and set my opinion into stone long before I actually played it. And once I do that NOTHING is going to change my opinion. Out of infinite possibilities there is NOTHING that could have possibly made up that game that could have any bearing as to alter that opinion. When I choose to dislike something nothing will get in the way of that choice. Not my likes, and not the game itself, and not the experience of playing the game.

  146. @erik

This is clearly going nowhere with you. You’re just too hateful and stubborn and just giving people ammunition to realize your opinion doesn’t matter. You don’t hate PS3 games because they suck/aren’t good/not your cup of tea. You hate them because they are on the PS3. We know this. All one would have to do is give you a non-typical PS3 controller and keep the system out of sight and you would then start playing the games and most likely enjoy it. That’s all it would take and that is completely incredible. Just find a way to NOT tell you that you’re playing a PS3.

You have warped your mind pretty severely and may want to see someone about this. You’re going to have a really hard life when you hit your 20′s. Be prepared to be very lonely and all around hated.

  147. @tendonut

“All one would have to do is give you a non-typical PS3 controller and keep the system out of sight and you would then start playing the games and most likely enjoy it”

Just why would I be playing a game if I didn’t even know what system I was playing in the first place?

“You’re going to have a really hard life when you hit your 20’s”

I’m going to hit my 20s again? Do you have a time traveling DeLorean?

“Be prepared to be very lonely and all around hated.”

There is a difference between being lonely and being alone. I prefer to be alone.

  148. L4D2 just hit the 2 million mark. I wonder how SDF will spin that. Sure you can get it on PC, but only on Windows, which belongs to MS.

  149. @seven2s

Ehhhh, you could always TRY to emulate it with Wine if you’re a Linux user. L4D1 works pretty well (not perfectly) But that does just emulate Microsoft’s APIs. I’m sure they wouldn’t like that too much. Or what they would probably do is just lump the total numbers across all systems together, say “The Slim Effect is taking over”, then never actually tie the two statements together to avoid breaking down how many of those were wold on the PS3.

  150. @tendonut – I haven’t played with wine extensively. I can’t get past the installation process generally. the one install I did do of a windows game within wine resulted in not loading the resource files correctly – the game would launch, but text assets didn’t make it in.

on the other hand, i’ve not researched it extensively, either.

    yea! Ubuntu!

  151. @taygee

Wine is….flaky..and that’s putting it lightly. I had a hell of a time getting anything to fucking work under Fedora. Same issue that you’re having with Ubuntu. Resources not loading properly, font problems, a whole mess of crap.

Eventually, my girlfriend convinced mt to start using Gentoo like herself and that’s exactly what I have been using ever since. You REALLY gotta know how Linux works, or at least willing to google your life away, if you ever wanted to adopt that. But whats nice about it, is packages, since they are built from source, are very unlikely to have any broken features or dependencies. Portage is a VERY nice package manager.

  152. @tendonut – fine, Gentoo will be my next experiment when I am ready to do so – thanks!

  153. @taygee

I am ALWAYS trying new OS’s. I just get a thrill out of new things. That’s why I took on the task of installing Gentoo on my PS3. Not because it was the only distro, Ubuntu and Fedora both have PPC64 versions, but because it was a challenge. You build everything from source, so if you processor sucks, don’t bother.

I’ve tried Debian, Ubuntu, SuSE, Solaris (*nix, not Linux), Fedora, Slackware, anything I can get my hands on. Arch will probably be my next step I think. It would be a triple-boot system since I am leaving Win7 and Gentoo alone.

Oh, also, another advantage/disadvantage of Gentoo (depending on what you think) is they don’t have new releases every 6 months, but rather do rolling releases where you never really have to do a total reinstall. Just update your system a bit more. But remember to do it often! Python is a fucking BITCH. It is very version specific and if the package/version it looks for is already being passed out of the stable tree and replaced with a newer version, the python-updater update will cry about not being able to find it and fail causing you to start installing them individually through portage.

    /salespitch

  154. I think I will try the thrill trying something new of using my PS3 as a door stop. It will be hilarious to see people’s faces if I did so. I’m sure the first question that they will ask is if its broken. Leading to even more amusing faces when I tell them no. I already get questioned when people see it dust covered and shoved into the back of my entertainment center. When asked why I never use it, I tell them no good movies have come to blu-ray lately.

  155. @erik

    Shut up.

  156. LOL!
You’re angering the Sony droids tonight Erik!

  157. @tendonut

Just pissed off because your theory that I would like the games on the PS3 proved to be severely false?

  158. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 2nd, 2009 at 6:16 pm

I will rephrase the question; who enjoys playing vidyagames? I do and it doesn’t matter what platform its on…… btw Puzzle Quest on the DS is like crack to me.

  159. @InfaredChimera

Then I will rephrase the counter question; Is that question just a sub-par attempt at sarcasm of some variety.

It is pretty safe bet that everyone likes video games here. And I am sure that you are aware of that.

  160. @erik

“Just pissed off because your theory that I would like the games on the PS3 proved to be severely false?”

We’ll never know because you’ll never try.

“When asked why I never use it, I tell them no good movies have come to blu-ray”

You and me both know this is not true. Pretty much everything is being brought to blu-ray. This has nothing to do with the PS3 at all. If you have a 1080p TV, assuming its bigger than 37″, you’d like blu-ray.

    @InfaredChimera

Have you played Picross? THAT game is like crack. Holy shit. The Professor Layton games are pretty damn good too. Me and the gf seem to race to see who finishes them first. I won the first game, she won the second.

  161. @tendonut

“We’ll never know because you’ll never try.”

We know because I say I know. I have made up my mind, and NOTHING at all could possibly ever change that. And even if I played any of the games in question, I would not allow the experience to taint that opinion. I could play it, but the game’s content is irrelevant. The content could be literally anything, I will not allow it to mind control me. I choose whether or not to change my mind, not a game. I’ve chosen not to change my mind.

“You and me both know this is not true.”

And yet I’ve not purchased any movies lately.

  162. It’s like this. Say a person brings you an item of food that you’ve never eaten before. You can decide that you dislike it and tell the person about it. After that it doesn’t matter whatsoever what it tastes like in the near infinite mosaic of possible tastes, you can still choose to dislike it.

  163. The slim effect, it’s a thing of the past.
    http://www.nintendoeverything.com/28853/

  164. @seven2s

I don’t think we ever doubted that it was pretty much over after the first month. The only reason the sales ever went up to begin with was it was sales from people who were solely waiting on a price drop and already wanted the system. Typically if one has a 360, its not easy to justify buying a PS3 unless you want the blu-ray player. Hell, the only thing that pushed me to buy it over a year after I had my 360 was because I wanted the blu-ray player. Being able to play games on it was really just an afterthought. I paid $400 for mine October 2008.

  165. “Typically if one has a 360, its not easy to justify buying a PS3 unless you want the blu-ray player.”

I sure as flaming fuck can’t justify it. I must have been drunk.

  166. Hey SDF, can we have an article about the Rise and Fail of the Slim Effect?

  167. From Famitsu’s first day sales in Japan.
“New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii) – 420,000″

  168. For perspective the only PS3 game on the list.
    “Assassin’s Creed 2 (PS3) – 28,000″

  169. And it looks like the 360 didnt do good for black friday compare to the ps3.

  170. @mich99

The figures in that article are Japan only. The sales look totally right in that respect. No one cares about the 360 in Japan. The rest of the world makes up for it.

What SDF refers to as the “Slim Effect” was the boost of sales right after the launch of the Slim. They got quite a bit.

    Week ending 8/30: 156,601
Week ending 9/6: 594,026 (Launch of Slim)
    Week ending 9/13: 325,432

Fast Forward over the downward fall:
    Week ending 10/18: 268,067
    Week ending 10/25: 252,348
    Week ending 11/01: 254,685

Sales have normalized. Slim Effect only lasted a week. The price drop is keeping sales up a bit higher than it has been lately though. Of course, for the holiday weekend, everything has gone up. 360 hardware sales may be bringing in the rear though, but the game sales are still ahead of the PS3. Why is this? I’d tend to say that the market is getting saturated with 360s. Seems logical. Lets take a few multi-platform games (Easy to do a fair comparison)

    Actual Assassin’s Creed II:
    PS3: 691,378
    360: 855,583

    Modern Warfare 2
    PS3: 3,714,423
    360: 5,717,064

See what I am talking about? PS3 is beating the 360 with hardware sales, but it’s vice versa for software.

    @seven2s

Come on seven2s, its easy to point out the logic flaws and the garbage SDF puts out trying to prop up the PS3′s sales, but be honest about what it really is like. You still come out on top, and you aren’t playing their game of throwing out misguided quotes and such.

  171. @mich99

First off. Are you actually trying to use the term “Slim Effect” as though it is something real and not just a joke from this insipid troll site?

Second, you do know that game sales take place outside of Japan also right?

Third, since SDF themselves never answered me. Do you think that the PS3′s problems with Modern Warfare 2′s online play would have been worse had the PS3 version sold as much as the 360 version, which left them in the dust FYI.

  172. Same here, they NEVER answer my questions either.
But then again mine always amount to “How come this real world evidence is contrary to the BS that you posted?”.

  173. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 5th, 2009 at 10:32 am

So has anyone played the demo for Bayonetta yet? I can tell ya guys this one thing I know for certain, I definitly buying it day one and on 360 (played the PS3 japanesse demo and it was definitly not as polished as the 360 version).

  174. Anyone else remember the SDF Forums?
They disappeared around the time people flooded them over the news story about the SDF being confirmed fake.

  175. @tendonut

So perhaps I was in a less of a bad mood than usual today, and I’ve had a small change of heart. So I’ve decided that rather than just not playing the games that I will hate, that much like I did with InfaredChimera with Killzone 2, I will humor you. I don’t know exactly how I will be able to prove to you that I will play these games, but we can iron that out later. So what is up first for me to rent? Uncharted 2? Demon’s Souls? Or some other shit stain of a game?

Of the major PS3 exclusives that I’ve played, and despised, consist of MGS4, Little Big Planet, InFamous, Uncharted, and Killzone 2.

  176. @erik

Umm, if you didn’t like Uncharted because of something other than it’s on the PS3, skip Uncharted 2. It is literally the same thing. You won’t like it. If you want an RPG, do Demon Souls..it’s NOT easy though. Definitely try Ratchet and Clank, Resistance 1 and 2 if you want co-op, Motorstorm 2 for split-screen multiplayer racing, MAYBE Heavenly Sword, but I didn’t like the demo too much, so I doubt the final game will be much better.

  177. @tendonut

Well I’m telling you that I will dislike all of these games before playing them. So playing them is mostly just to humor you. Yes I hate them just because they are on the PS3. But you think that by playing them I will magically like them. No. But I will give it a go regardless. So I’ll give Demon’s Souls a whirl once I take Dragons Age(for the 360 of course) back to the video store. I’ll hate it. But maybe you will realize that also after I do.

  178. Also, I own Resistance 1. I found it sort of tepid as far as a shooter goes. Barren and without any hint of any new ideas like Killzone 2, but without even the shiny wrappings of Killzone 2.

  179. @erik

No, I don’t think you’re going to like them. I think you will force yourself to hate them to keep your whole hate going.

Same reason why I hate Mangos. Sure, I’ve never eaten a mango but I NEVER WILL TRY THEM BECAUSE I HATE THEM SO MUCH!!!! Why? Because it’s yellow and red and sometimes green, just like gummy worms and I almost choked on a gummy worm when i was 6 so I HATE MANGOS!

  180. @tendonut

“No, I don’t think you’re going to like them. I think you will force yourself to hate them to keep your whole hate going.”

That isn’t what you said earlier. In fact I recall you saying that if I played them I might like them. And I myself would not know if I would like them or not if I refused to play them.

  181. I think it’s time for a new topic SDF. SDF? Hello?

As usual, SDF is hiding in their momma;s basements! We need a new topic already, like “slim effect only lasts a week!” or “MW2 better on 360 than POS3″. Cmon SDF, new joke material please!

  182. @xbox360FTW

I’m with you on that. This story here is about to break 200 comments. No thread should be forced to break even 100 comments. NEW TOPIC PLZ!

  183. Things are starting to look awful for the 360

    http://ps3.ign.com/articles/105/1052716p1.html

  184. @mich99

*snerk* Awful, yeah right. The 360 outsells the PS3 for 13 months and only now the PS3 has started to even begin to become competition, and you think that things look bad for the PS3? The article also predicts a 360 price drop, which would very likely put the PS3rd place back into 3rd place.

  185. Mich, why such a $ony rump swab? Maybe most of us feel the POS3 should have been $299 to begin with? Maybe $ony should not have forced Bluray on us just to sell movies as the primary factor! Don’t get me started on removing backwards compat. Big ball dropped on Sony’s part!

How can things look awful for the 360 (which sony fanturds deem inferior hardware) when it has been ahead of Sony since the start? 360 has better online and better games, IMO.

The slim effect was pathetic and is over. The next price drop on 360 will officially put POS3 in third place the rest of the way since the rocket scientists at $ony know they can’t go any cheaper!

  186. @erik

Yea i wouldn’t be surprise if MS does make a price cut on the 360. They are starting to grow desperate . i wonder how is the sales gap between the 360 and ps3 now. Must be around 5 million closing down fast.

    @Xbox360ftw

Of course its been ahead , because it got a release a year early plus the ps3′s price wasn’t helping it either. If the ps3 was at a 299 price and the 360 at 400 or 500 which console do you think would sell faster? people bought the 360 because it was cheaper just like they are buying the wii , But now that both consoles are at a fair price now we are seeing which one would sell more .

  187. @mich99

Yes I bet after beating PS3rd place 13 months in a row they are growing quite desperate. “Oh my god! Where the hell are we going to put all this fucking money!?”

But the biggest issue with the PS3 now is that Blu-Ray players are dirt cheap. In the early days of the PS3 it was then a rather cheap solution to blu-ray. But now with prices of Blu-ray at $100 and falling there are going to be less people interested in a $300 blu-ray with a poorly thought out game addon.

  188. Mich for things to “look bad” for the 360. They have to stop selling them all together, then Sony not only has to catch up, but sell a few more units ahead of the 360. THEN things will “look bad”. As it stands the PS3 is still several millions of units behind. A gap that won’t magically disappear, just because the PS3 has had a couple of good months.
Slim Effect is a joke, and so are the PS3′s advantages.
Free online? Yeah my PC does that too!
Blu-ray player? I can get one of those for a hundred bucks!
Excellent games? The other two consoles have plenty of those!
Superior Tech? I have more fun with my Wii than my 360. What’s that tell you about superior tech?

  189. Friend of mine got a bluray player for $78! That ans a 360 and 20 gig HD and you have something better than the POS3 for less! F $ony!

  190. okay so lets imagine that it was the ps3 that got release a year earlier and at the same price the 360 got release. Do you think the 360 would be ahead ?? Nope.its because of the head start it got and the price .

  191. And yet It would still be saddled with Resistance and Killzone 2.

  192. @mich99

I tend to believe you too. If they were both the same price and released at the same time, the PS3 would be ahead. It also had the name recognition going for it as well and everyone loved the PS2. It would offer more for the money. But this is definitely wishful thinking. It would have never happen because the features raised the price, not them trying to turn a profit on the hardware. (they still aren’t doing that)

  193. Neither the PS3 nor the 360 had anything noteworthy in their lineup the first year it was out, so we can’t say “The 360 would sell more because of it’s library”. At least the PS3 had Resistance on launch, which was better than anything exclusive to the 360 on it’s launch (As mediocre as it was). And then you have to wonder, would as many games go to the 360 that did if developers didn’t really lose much business staying PS3 exclusive? That’s why Sony lost SquareEnix. What Sony was willing to pay to remain exclusive wasn’t counteracting the lost sales if the game was on the more popular 360. Would Gears of War have been a 360 exclusive? Lots to think about. But its always fun to speculate retroactively.

  194. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 9th, 2009 at 5:22 pm

    @tendonut

I’m going to disagree with you on that; the 360 had in one year after release where COD2 and PGR 3 (launch day), Oblivion, Dead Rising, Rainbow 6: Vegas, Gears 1, and Saints Row to name a few within the 360s first year out.
But the sad truth is that between Resistance and almost up to the fall of 07, there wasn’t shit on the PS3. Sure there was Motorstorm but otherwise it was a desert on the PS3 for months after launch and Sony really dropped the fucking ball in all regards.

  195. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 9th, 2009 at 5:23 pm

Basically MS had maybe one really good game a month post launch of the 360 than Sony.

  196. @InfraredChimera

PGR, yeah, that would probably be a decent system selling game. I wasn’t thinking about that. CoD2 though was a PC port and would have been on the PS3 most likely if it wasn’t already old news by the time it launched a year later. As for the other games, Oblivion, Dead Rising, R6: Vegas, Gears 1, Saints Row, all 3rd party. Meaning they could theoretically jump ship.

What my point really was, would those have remained exclusive if the PS3 and 360 started on equal grounds? Its something to always think about. If Sony didn’t buttfuck their fanbase by forcing their movie agenda on the users (wanted or not), this generation may be entirely different.

The only games that would be fair would be the 1st/2nd party games or franchises they own exclusive rights to (Like MS and the Halo series), But now that I think about it, that doesn’t include a whole lot.

I just did a bit of Googling. It appears there was only one game per system that would be completely exclusive at launch, no matter how the cards were played. Insomniac Games is a 2nd party developer owned by SCE, which put out Resistance. Microsoft on the other hand, owns exclusive rights to the PGR property, despite Bizarre Creations, owned by Activision, being 3rd party.

As for games that came out for the first year, I’d actually be really interested in looking into this. You could be right. It’s 11:15PM though here, and I need to get to bed. Maybe tomorrow at work I can check out which 1st/2nd party games and owned franchises/properties were released within a year of the 360′s launch. We would then have to pretend that Sony’s first year titles would be released a year earlier, just for the sake of argument. I am now genuinely interested in what I may find.

  197. I think what Sony really needs to do with the PS3 is to focus on their system what works, and trim out the rest. So if they drop the games feature, and leave the rest in tact, I think it would make for a rather fantastic internet enabled movie player. Now that would make it so that I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a PS3 owner.

  198. Mich, and yet you have to ZOOM in 300x to notice the difference.
    Sony apologists be fishing yo!

  199. http://www.ps3center.net/news/4163/asdf/
It’s like the Slim Effect never happened.

  200. By a 100k? i actually expected more
coming from Xbox360 in North america.

  201. @Mich99

Well, considering during months before the launch of the slim, the gap has actually GROWN, Seven2s is pretty accurate.

    July
    PS3: 403,490
    360: 433,161

    June
    PS3: 405,888
    360: 448,622

All figures are from http://www.vgchartz.com, which pulls its figures from NDP.

  202. Actually Mich from Sony’s trash talk, I expected the 360 to sell 0, and the PS3 to sell like a BAJILLION! Cuz uh slim E fect!

  203. Of course my figures are accurate! I cunt punched Flavor Flave!

  204. Well too bad that today is the last day of Seven2s shitty posts because once uncharted 2 wins the game of the year award tomorrow its going to be buh-bye .

  205. @mich99

Don’t worry. I plan to hold up my end of the deal of posting twice as much when Man Raider 2 wins the over-hyped corporate bullshit game of the year award.

  206. HA! So either way Mich has to put up with shit!
    Also this http://n4g.com/ClickOut.aspx?ObjID=442466
I guess that’s what happens when Sony sets their own bar low enough.

  207. Also a reminder, I will honor my end of the bargain. But it has to win THE game of the year. Not just PS3 game of the year. That’s as pointless as NewSMB winning Wii Goty.

  208. Yea it is game of the year award. Uncharted 2 has a higher metacritic score than MW2 and it also won E3 game of the show so im over-confident .

LMAO not a single 360 exclusive and 2 ps3 exclusives.

Ps3 had a better gaming library than the 360 this year.

  209. Even the guy from VGA think that Uncharted 2 should win game of the year.

  210. I wanted to shoot myself in the head half-way through playing the first game. It was completely and totally one of the worst games that I’ve ever played. So I cannot imagine the second one being any better. Stickemup’s “suggestion” aka massive wanking of that game lead me to one of the most torturous gaming experiences I’ve ever had. Only trumped when InfaredChimera made the insane statement that I would have to play Killzone 2 to know if I liked it or not.

  211. Like I said Mich, I won’t welch on the bet. But a word of warning about going on predictions.
    http://www.seanet.com/~jimxc/Politics/dewey_defeats_truman1.jpg

  212. @erik

Funny i enjoyed “manraider” miles beyond anything else that came out around that time. It wasnt a traditional game in any sense. Sure the idea wasnt original but what idea is original? I mean the premise of Halo alone is uninspired as hell. Space marines vs. aliens. That idea was original in the 80s when contra came out. Now its just uninspired. Uncharted accomplished what it wanted to do. Make a interactive movie that you could play. Its the only game that accomplishes that, so i think its recognition is well deserved. That being said the game that was overrated and deserved the pretigious award of over-hyped corporate bullshit game of the year is halo 3. Its mediocre campaign, inferior multiplayer to the 2nd one and COD4, graphics were horrible (looked like a xbox game!), and the grunts made my experience intolerable to the point where i cut my losses and got rid of that turd. Opinions differ however you clearly have bias towards all PS3 games. So is there a PS3 game you find tolerable?

  213. I kinda like this new mario. Its a 2d platformers have always been nintendos strong suit. I was dissapointed in galaxy and sunshine for being inferior to mario 64. After a terrible 6+ months of waiting for a worthwhile game on the wii, this one is it. That being said i cant help but feel this game could have been done on the DS lol.

  214. Nintendo knows how to make going back to basics WORK for them.

  215. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 12th, 2009 at 11:51 am

    @erik

Because talking about how much you dislike a game before you actually play it makes alot of sense.

  216. @InfraredChimera

Saying you dislike a game before playing it is fine if the general consensus is with you, but when the general gaming community is giving a game ratings in the 9′s, like in the case of Killzone 2, and I agree that one would assume its worth a try before it is shot down. And it has to be shot down for legitimate complaints about the game itself, not “its on the PS3, so it automatically sucks”. That’s not a valid complaint.

  217. @InfaredChimera

And yet I was still right. You never seem to remember that point. Playing it was a wretched experience. I would have to say that it was on par with the Kriss Kross music video maker on the Sega CD.

Unfortunately I’ve promised to make that mistake again to tendonut with torturing myself with Demons Soul’s and Uncharted 2, and hell knows what else. And I intend to keep that promise as soon as I can get to the video store.

  218. @Spooky205

“Funny i enjoyed “manraider” miles beyond anything else that came out around that time.”

I loathed it. I loathed every damn second of it.

“So is there a PS3 game you find tolerable?”

I’ll let you know when I find one.

  219. You guys can thank me later for getting rid of seven2s

  220. @mich99

If someone got rid of you who then theoretically would we thank? I want to get a jump on thanking that person.

But anyways, the whole Game of the Year thing is now completely invalid due to the inclusion of Assassin’s Creed 2 being one of the finalists.

  221. @mich99

Are the VGAs gamer vote-based? Or are the winners based around like a panel of professionals like the Oscars? I am sure Uncharted 2 is great, but it’s not too often a system-exclusive game wins GoTY, especially when it’s on the least popular of the three, when “the people” make the decision. I was really expecting MW2 to win because of it’s hype, assuming it was voter-driven. I guess the PS3 owners were very vocal about Uncharted 2.

  222. @tendonut

No, actually Uncharted 2 did win game of the year. The program wrapped up not long ago from what I read. But regardless of that reward that still does not change my opinion of the game.

  223. @erik

Well fortunately, the vast majority of the gaming world doesn’t not agree with any of your views, so it doesn’t surprise me at all that AC2 made it as a finalist. That game is fucking amazing. (I own it for the 360)

  224. @erik

I know Uncharted 2 won, that’s why I asked. I wasn’t expecting it to win, but I don’t mind that it did.

  225. @tendonut

I played the original Assassin’s Creed, on the 360 no less. I was seriously underwhelmed. I’m not sure if it was even noteworthy enough for me to even hate it. It wallows in it’s own mediocrity. So as far as the sequel goes, no. Just no.

  226. “The big November NPD sales are done, and after much talk of “The of year of the PS3″ it seems like the Xbox 360 has outsold the PS3, once again. The figures go:

    TOP-SELLING HARDWARE – NOVEMBER 2009
    DS: 1,700,000
    Wii: 1,260,000
    Xbox 360: 819,500
    PlayStation 3: 710,400
    PSP: 293,900
    PlayStation 2: 203,100

So with the Xbox 360 still outselling the PS3 by a comfortable 100k and only trailing the Wii by a massive 400k, will next year be as strong with the release of Natal?

Also in news, the Top selling Software for November was also announced with MW2 coming out on top:

    TOP-SELLING SOFTWARE SKUs – NOVEMBER 2009
    Title / Publisher / Units**
    1) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (360) / Activision / 4,200,000
    2) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (PS3) / Activision / 1,870,000
    3) New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii) / Nintendo / 1,390,000
    4) Assassin’s Creed II (360) / Ubisoft / 794,700
    5) Left 4 Dead 2 (360) / Electronic Arts / 744,000
    6) Wii Sports Resort (Wii) / Nintendo / 720,200
    7) Wii Fit Plus (Wii) / Nintendo / 679,000
    8) Assassin’s Creed II (PS3) / Ubisoft / 448,400
    9) Dragon Age: Origins (360) / Electronic Arts / 362,100
    10) Mario Kart Wii (Wii) / Nintendo / 315,000

As can be seen the 360 version of MW2 far outsold the PS3 version, with a ratio of nearly 3:1 it seems Activision is doing right in supporting Microsoft’s gaming console.”

    BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

    @erik

I totally agree with you about Assassins Creed, but Assassins Creed 2 in all regards is a better game. Alot of the complaints of the first game have been addressed (while it does introduce new ones but they didn’t detract from my enjoyment of it), but if you didn’t care for the first one then you probably in most cases won’t care for this one either.

  228. @infaredchimera

The saddest thing about Assassin’s Creed is that the most interesting part of the game was the “real world” stuff. Other than that the repetitious go to a city, do three errands, kill guy, repeat next city got really boring really quick.

  229. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 13th, 2009 at 4:35 pm

    @erik

I found the concept of Assassins Creed to be fucking great, but damn that first one was the height of mediocrity for me. No matter how much I wanted to get through the game, I just couldn’t do it at all. Basically I got so bored with it that one night while playing it I actually fell asleep.

  230. @InfaredChimera

That happened to me when I tried to watch The Grudge. That was, at the time, the worst horror movie that I’ve ever seen. No horror movie before has ever put me to sleep. Either they were good, or so corny I could laugh at them. That did neither. So little happened that I drifted off to sleep.

Right now I’m pretty well engaged in Dragons Age. It is an odd experience. The combat and such isn’t the best I’ve come across in an RPG. But with the story and the characters is comes together into a rather enjoyable experience.

  231. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 13th, 2009 at 9:20 pm

    @erik

When it came to The Grudge the original jap one was better (aka Ju-On or something like it).
As far as Dragons Age goes, it seems pretty cool and would be willing to give it a shot but I don’t have the time to invest in a game like that. Not only that I finally (after 2 years) got around too buying Mass Effect to see what the hubbub was about and I gotta say its pretty neat.

  232. @InfaredChimera

I’m making the mistake of trying to juggle both Mass Effect (as I’ve never beaten it as something in my life always comes up when I try, and I need a completed save file for Mass Effect 2) and Dragons Age at the same time. So juggling stats in both games as well as equipment for multiple characters in both games in driving me out of my mind.

  233. Sorry to disappoint the $ony fanturds here, but Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is THE GAME OF THE YEAR! There is no doubt. Having played and finished both games, Unfarted 2 is a good game, not a great game. MW2 is a great game (Good campaign, exceptional online, close to as good as Halo and L4D/2). MW2 wins hands down. Unfarted 2 will be POS3 GOTY, but who cares.

  234. Oh, and before I get riddles with $ony fanturd hate texts, Halo and L4D is a distant second to MW2. Mw2 online is that good. Oh, and by the way, MW2 on POS3, the online sucks, and so does the chat, which is non existant since most don’t have craptacular bluetooth headsets. Another dumb idea by $ony. 360 controller/headset rules over that crap six-crapsis $ony controller!

  235. Well to bad that millions of people dont agreed with you on that because Unchared 2 won thanks to the people who voted for it. So more people think Uncharted 2 is a better game than modern warfare 2.

MW2 has a campaign which is almost completely inferior to it’s predecessor, lacks innovation, story is ridiculous, cool moments only last 5 seconds and only occur once through entire game, loads of missions insanely unbalanced and frustrating, game is short (my play time for campaign on veteran is 8 hours, 3 of which were repeating the unbalanced missions over and over again), the game is almost entirely scripted and an online which is just as uninnovative as it’s predecessor, replacing unbalanced annoying perks with even more unbalanced perks … on and a completely gimped PC version.

Ps: Sales dont make a game better. I prefer shadow of the colossus which probably have only sold 1 million over modern warfare 2.

  236. @mich99

And Uncharted 2 is the sequel to Uncharted. So it’s fucked from the get go. In the first game after the billionth fight of shooting towards spanish voices I just wished that Dork, I mean Drake would shoot himself in the head.

  237. But, to be fair Sony did release some good games in 2009.

    http://www.gamesradar.com/ps2/games

  238. Actually the ps3 released more quality games than the 360 and wii this year.

    http://features.metacritic.com/features/2009/the-best-games-of-2009/?tag=topslot;title;1

  239. @mich99

Games like Man Raider 2? Demon’s Stools? Color me unimpressed. Also, my PS3 has been off at least 4 months. Maybe longer. But I’m rather pleased with that.

  240. Must suck to know that the game of the year is man raider 2.

  241. Spike Tv’s game of the year is Man Raider 2. I’ve not taken Spike TV seriously for anything, at all, ever. And I am not about to start now.

  242. Any website that you take lightly seriously? because they going to probably give uncharted 2 game of the year award too .

  243. None that will give Man Raider 2 a game of the year award. Or a rating above 3/10.

  244. @erik

Judging by the Metacritic link Mich99 gave, it seems most websites have rated “Man Raider 2″ the highest score given this year. Only two sites total gave it under a 90/100. I have never seen so many 100/100 scores in my life.

So what website would you take seriously?

  245. @tendonut

“Judging by the Metacritic link Mich99 gave, it seems most websites have rated “Man Raider 2″ the highest score given this year.”

    I don’t care.

“So what website would you take seriously?”

None that will give Man Raider 2 a game of the year award. Or a raiting above 3/10.

  246. @erik

Must be lonely up there all by yourself.

  247. @tendonut

If I have to choose between loneliness or engaging with mouth breathers on the most overrated game of all time, then I shall choose loneliness.

Would you choose to sit in a room full of horse shit, or in an empty room which would you choose?

  248. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 15th, 2009 at 2:38 pm

Again I ask, how can you say a game is “overrated” without actually playing it?
So are you a entitled brat? Yes or no.

  249. @InfaredChimera

Are you back to that tired old “You have to slam your dick in a car door before you know if you will like it” bullshit again? Now listen, I told you I wouldn’t like Killzone 2, I didn’t like it. I’ve not liked a single PS3 game. What makes you think that me playing Man Raider 2 would change my mind?

  250. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 15th, 2009 at 5:08 pm

    @erik

I’m never asked you to play the fucking games, just that if your going to criticize the game(s) without actually playing them, then just shut the fuck up and keep quiet about them or go play them.
After you played KZ2, I took your opinion as someone who played it and didn’t go on a false pretense on what the game actually turned out to be. I believe everyone is entitled to there own opinion about shit, but only if its a informed opinion about the subject at hand. Otherwise shut up and listen or go find out about that game first hand.

  251. @InfaredChimera

Why is such a thing necessary? I mean honestly are you some sort of sadist? Why do you insist that I do things that I know I will dislike? Must I repeat the mistake with Killzone 2 over for every dog turd laid by the PS3? Honestly? Let me try to put this more clearly:

MY. OPINION. WILL. BE. THE. SAME. AFTER. I. PLAY. THEM. AS. BEFORE. I. PLAY. THEM.

How, god, allah, buddah, someone tell me how I can put that any clearer. I’m at the end of my wits in trying to simplify that for you.

  252. @InfaredChimera

Before I played Killzone 2 it was a game on the PS3, so I didn’t like it. After I played it, it was still on the PS3, so I still didn’t like it. So just what insights did I supposedly glean from playing it?

  253. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 16th, 2009 at 4:31 pm

    @erik

That when someone asks you about KZ2 you can answer with a intelligent and informed opinion of the game. Instead of the weak ass argument “because its on the PS3″.

Also ask me my shoe size.

  254. @InfaredChimera

Wrong. When someone asks me about KZ2 my answer will be 100%, word for word, the exact same response that it would be if I had not play it.

  255. @erik

Which will be “It sucks and I refuse to play it because it’s on the PS3 which is a system I paid money for and won’t turn out because it hurt my feelings 3 years ago and has since made amends.”

Then you get laughed at and you crawl back into your cave all by yourself where you yell at people online and continue to have no real human contact. Awesome. I envy you.

  256. @tendonut

“Then you get laughed at and you crawl back into your cave all by yourself where you yell at people online and continue to have no real human contact. Awesome. I envy you.”

The other option is to play the PS3 and fool myself into enjoying it. So I will take the former over the latter any day.

  257. @tendonut

I am curious to one thing though. It seems to me that somehow you think that I have the potential, and therefore should, become some PS3 fanboy nob gobbler like you InfaredChimera and Hans.

I mean honestly. Do you think that I will really just up and change my mind and be like: “ROFFLELOL, screw the PS2. I hate real innovation that made teh PS2 a success. Now all I care about are teh specs and shiny-pretty graphics. I would rather have one pretty “game” like Killzone 2 than a library of good games like the PS2. Hooray for Bluemovie/uselesswifi/fuckinguselessoperatingstysteminstalls/retardedbluetooth garbage. Fuck games, I has teh features!”

Do you honestly see that happening?

  258. @erik

It’s a shame you won’t even consider ignoring all the useless features of the PS3 (THAT YOU OWN) and play the highly rated/critically acclaimed games in it’s library, simply because it’s on the PS3. It’s very juvenile and frankly, fanboyish.

I think you just don’t want the title “fanboy”. But there is definitely a difference between a “fan” and a “fanboy”. A fanboy trick themselves into loving their system of choice to keep their sanity in check. They insult the competing system to make themselves feel better about not playing it, and want to hear absolutely nothing about said other system. They want to know nothing of it. All they know (read: pretend) is that it sucks and never want to play it. They hate it, and that is all. Ask them to explain the hate and they do an awful job or come up with something insane that doesn’t make any sense.

A fan on the other hand, is someone who just likes the games on the system, but doesn’t have a bias towards any. I personally have mentioned many many times how I am currently playing Forza and love it, and how I buy most multi-platform games for my 360 because I do prefer the controller, and how I just sent my 360 in for a RROD which is being returned to me on Monday, and I am counting down the days for that. I am a fan, not a fanBOY.

So judging by the definition of a fanboy…seems like you’re actually a 360 fanboy, doesn’t it?

  259. @tendonut

Sorry, but you are a PS3 fanboy. Critically acclaimed games? If you can say that with a straight face then you are a PS3 fanboy.

“So judging by the definition of a fanboy…seems like you’re actually a 360 fanboy, doesn’t it?”

Not really. If I were a fanboy for any system it would be either the PS2 or the SNES. I would be completely willing to throw my 360 out of a window if it meant that it would fall on my PS3 and destroy it for good.

But, unlike yourself, I just do not have what it takes to trick myself into being a PS3 fanboy. Maybe it would be better off, because then I wouldn’t have wasted so much money. But I suppose I don’t have as much mental will as you do to torment myself like that.

I would rather pluck out my eyes than agree with you on anything.

  260. The fact that I own a PS3 is humiliating enough. To be a fan or a fanboy or whatever with the PS3 would be more than I could bear.

  261. @erik

“Critically acclaimed games? If you can say that with a straight face then you are a PS3 fanboy. ”

Then you are all by yourself on that. Judging my metacritic, there are quite a few exclusive games getting high reviews. You can think what you want, the rest of the population will play some great games.

  262. @tendonut

The population can drink all the poisoned Kool-Aid they damn well please. It doesn’t make it any less embarrassing for me to own a PS3.

And I’ve played some of these “great games”. I was unimpressed.

  263. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 17th, 2009 at 5:09 pm

Grape kool-aid with some grey goose= yum.

  264. The only problem being is that the amount of Grey Goose I would need to enjoy the PS3 and the amount that would cause me to pass out are very close. I do “hope” with my paycheck tomorrow to be able to rent either Man Raider 2 or Demon’s Stools. So then instead of saying “I hate Man Raider 2 because it’s on the PS3″ I will, as InfaredChimera wants, be able to use the much more informed “I hate Man Raider 2 because it’s on the PS3.”

He says there is a difference there.

  265. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 18th, 2009 at 2:54 pm

You know I’m right and I make sense.

  266. @InfaredChimera

Oh yeah? Okay then, tell me the difference between these two phrases.

Prior to playing the game: “Uncharted 2 is on the PS3, therefore I hate it.”

    versus

After playing the game: “Uncharted 2 is on the PS3, therefore I hate it.”

  267. So I rented Uncharted 2. I’m about forty-five or so minutes into it. My opinion of the game thusfar. Now prepare yourself for this one. It sucks! It sucks! It suck suck suck suck sucks!

Wow! Just like with Killzone 2. And the only person who couldn’t have foreseen this outcome, or any outcomes, was InfaredChimera.

So tell me. After a dozen times of ending up in the hospital for crossing the street when the circle with the line is flashing on the crosswalk does it ever enter your mind that the thirteenth time you cross the street that if you see that that you MAY end up getting your ass run over again? Or is using any knowledge to fortell future outcomes taboo in your world?

  268. InfraredChimera Says:

    @erik

Taking risks are fun, they add substance to life when there is none to be had. I take it that you had a rather boring life thus far and taking a chance is something you’re not familiar with.
But since we’re talking videogames, what risk are you really taking realistically?
So the question is; why don’t you just get rid of your PS3 and be done with it? You bitch about it all the fucking time, you don’t give a fuck about the games for it (or won’t try them or be arrogant about them), so do yourself a favor and give it away to Childs Play or trade it in and get something you will otherwise enjoy!

  269. “Taking risks are fun, they add substance to life when there is none to be had.”

Generally when someone takes a risk, there is a possibility of a reward to be had. Or at the very least the chance of avoiding the danger of the risk. When I rented Uncharted 2 there wasn’t a “risk” to be undertaken in that sense of the word. The possibility of me not liking it was 100%. There is a difference between risk, and rushing headlong into a pointless situation.

“why don’t you just get rid of your PS3 and be done with it? You bitch about it all the fucking time, you don’t give a fuck about the games for it (or won’t try them or be arrogant about them), so do yourself a favor and give it away to Childs Play or trade it in and get something you will otherwise enjoy!”

As I told you before. I will not sell it, nor will I give it to Child’s Play. I will smash it into a thousand pieces when I so choose to.

But to get back to the point you attempted to dance around. Yet again I didn’t like a game I said, before playing it, that I wouldn’t like. This again flies in the face of your pet theory. So I would like some sort of comment on that. Just how many times would I have to do this before you think that maybe I might be onto something?

  270. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 18th, 2009 at 10:13 pm

    @erik

My “pet theory” of not judging a game untill I’ve actually played it is a fucking theory? Really?!?!

I’m going to buy a big fucking jar of mustard tomorrow, even though I don’t like it and it makes me sick to my stomach, I will proceed to buy it and consume it to prove I’m right and not stupid. Even though the only way I knew I didn’t like mustard is by trying it first instead of saying I didn’t like it.
But then again you have said earlier in the year (if not last year) you wouldn’t ever buy a PS3 (you did), never would play KZ2 (you did and if I recall you actually beat the game), and now you played Uncharted 2! So you go back against everything you said you wouldn’t do and end up doing it anyways.

“Just how many times would I have to do this before you think that maybe I might be onto something?”
With enough pushing you give in, BUT maybe in some way you actually do take my words with a grain of salt or curiosity does get the best of you.

But my “pet theory” of not judging something untill experienced (ie videogames, movies, or books in which you confuse with slamming ones dick into a car door) is based upon the old saying, “never judge a book by its cover” maybe you should apply that too videogames as well if you have the mental capibilities to do so (in which I recommend that you do).

  271. @InfaredChimera

“My “pet theory” of not judging a game untill I’ve actually played it is a fucking theory? Really?!?!”

Yes. So far twice you’ve said that I wouldn’t know how I would feel about a game without playing them. And so far twice the games I said I won’t like I, shock and surprise, didn’t like them. And after I take Uncharted 2 back and I rent Demon’s Souls I will hate it.

So out of curiosity, just how many times would we have to do this over and over again before you recognize the pattern as a pattern? Are you so oblivious to this pattern that you think that my opinion of Demon’s Souls has a potential to be positive or negative?

“But my “pet theory” of not judging something untill experienced (ie videogames, movies, or books in which you confuse with slamming ones dick into a car door) is based upon the old saying, “never judge a book by its cover” maybe you should apply that too videogames as well if you have the mental capibilities to do so (in which I recommend that you do).”

So lets say that I judge a million books by their cover. Now then lets say that after reading said million books I still hate them, per my initial judgment. Then after that million I come across another book, and judge it poorly by it’s cover. Could you really and honestly be so vacant of pattern recognition that you would have no idea of the outcome? None at all? What do you think will happen when I play Demon’s Souls. I’m curious to hear your prediction on that one.

  272. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 19th, 2009 at 7:58 am

    @erik

Am I vacant in pattern recognition? Nope.
Will you like Demons Souls? Nope.
Did you buy a device knowing you will hate it? Yup.
Would someone in there right mind do that? No.
Would someone be conssidered a dumbass for doing that? Absolutely.

  273. Oh yeah, ze double team!

    InfraredChimera/Tendonut vs. Erik

The problem with the arguments we all have with him is Erik would first of all never admit that he liked a game because it would undermine his entire trolling attempt. If he is for reals and actually hates any game on the PS3, nothing will change his mind because he has brainwashed himself into thinking that 99% of the gaming population professional and fan-based, are stupid and all the 9/10 games that are exclusive to the PS3 are actually 1/10 to him. Its kind of like arguing with religious zealots that defend their views to the death even though the proof opposing their views is staring them right in the face. Hell, even if it were a multi-platform game developed on the PS3 and ported to the 360 (like FF13 will be), it will still suck on the PS3 but be superior on the 360, despite being IDENTICAL. He just craves hatred and wants to be a very lonely person. Chances are he doesn’t have any real friends because he refuses to befriend people who have even the slightest different views on things.

Oh, he also said he would take his PS3 to a charity event and smash it in front of them. That’s not being an asshole, that’s just evil.

  274. You guys cant take everything erik says seriously.I wouldnt be surprise if he actually didnt buy uncharted 2 and if he did, Even if he did enjoyed it,He wouldnt admit it just to be an asshole.

  275. @Tendonut

You and InfaredChimera double team a lot of guys then? I assumed as much. But idiocy in stereo is still idiocy.

“The problem with the arguments we all have with him is Erik would first of all never admit that he liked a game because it would undermine his entire trolling attempt.”

I try not to let the experience of the game pollute my opinion of said game. Therefore when I hate a game, playing it will not change how I think about it.

“If he is for reals and actually hates any game on the PS3, nothing will change his mind because he has brainwashed himself into thinking that 99% of the gaming population professional and fan-based, are stupid and all the 9/10 games that are exclusive to the PS3 are actually 1/10 to him.”

I don’t think I would give MGS4, InFamous, Uncharted 1 or 2, Little Big Planet, or MAG 1/10. Perhaps 0/10.

“Hell, even if it were a multi-platform game developed on the PS3 and ported to the 360 (like FF13 will be), it will still suck on the PS3 but be superior on the 360, despite being IDENTICAL.”

Multiplatform releases generally get better treatment on the 360. Like GTA4, Ghostbusters, Fallout 3, etc.

“He just craves hatred and wants to be a very lonely person. Chances are he doesn’t have any real friends because he refuses to befriend people who have even the slightest different views on things.”

Wrong. I would also refuse to befriend anyone who has the exact same view as me on things also.

“Oh, he also said he would take his PS3 to a charity event and smash it in front of them. That’s not being an asshole, that’s just evil.”

I couldn’t bear to think of it being used. I mean owning it is humiliating enough. But to think that it is out there and continuing it’s travesty. No. That system is done with me, it goes no further.

OK, so you won’t let yourself like a game you are enjoying once you already decide its bad, even when your experiences tell you otherwise. Logical. /s

“Multiplatform releases generally get better treatment on the 360. Like GTA4, Ghostbusters, Fallout 3, etc.”

This is USUALLY true, but in a case like FF13 where the game was developed on the PS3 and ported to the 360, it will most likely be the opposite of the norm. I’ll give you this one.

“Wrong. I would also refuse to befriend anyone who has the exact same view as me on things also.”

So you have no friends? Everything is adding up now. How are you still pushing your ideas? Don’t you like lie in bed at night and cry over how horrible your life is? This is very unhealthy and anti-social.

“I don’t think I would give MGS4, InFamous, Uncharted 1 or 2, Little Big Planet, or MAG 1/10. Perhaps 0/10.”

OK, you do that. The other 400 million gamers will go on enjoying them.

Isn’t it sad how ALONE you are? No friends, don’t want friends, hate everything. It must be hard to get through a day when you have no one to turn to, no one to talk to (besides us), sleeping alone, eating alone. Very sad…I’m sorry you have done that to yourself. *hug*

  278. @erik

You’ve gotten to the point here on SDF that I think anything you say will never be taken seriously. If you act like a lunatic long enough, you are officially labeled a lunatic. It’s like those crazy people on the streets that scream about the end of the world. They are just entertaining. No one takes them seriously.

Just go away, no one wants to hear what you have to say. I am getting tired of feeding you. SDF needs a new fucking topic. We are about to break 300 comments on this story!

  279. @tendonut

“OK, so you won’t let yourself like a game you are enjoying once you already decide its bad, even when your experiences tell you otherwise.”

Not completely. But for your limited understanding and reasoning, close enough.

“This is USUALLY true, but in a case like FF13 where the game was developed on the PS3 and ported to the 360, it will most likely be the opposite of the norm. I’ll give you this one.”

Tough shit. I’m still not buying it for the PS3. In fact before I heard it was going to come to the 360 I was perfectly willing to let it be the one Final Fantasy, after playing every single other one, that I would miss.

“So you have no friends? Everything is adding up now. How are you still pushing your ideas? Don’t you like lie in bed at night and cry over how horrible your life is? This is very unhealthy and anti-social.”

Again, not completely right. But good enough for your limited understanding. Rather I don’t want friends. I have people from back in high school that try to get in touch with me. But I’ve dropped as far of their grid as I can. And I have people at work that have often wanted to hang out. I give them the cold shoulder, make up excuses, etc.

“OK, you do that. The other 400 million gamers will go on enjoying them.”

400 million other gamers can go fuck themselves simultaneously.

“Isn’t it sad how ALONE you are? No friends, don’t want friends, hate everything. It must be hard to get through a day when you have no one to turn to, no one to talk to (besides us), sleeping alone, eating alone. Very sad…I’m sorry you have done that to yourself.”

Actually no. It is very happy and rewarding. Friends and all of that hassle, that was what made me sad. Do yourself a favor and make sure that your happiness is based on you and you alone. Putting something so important as your happiness in the hands of others is a recipie for disaster.

  280. I’m not even going to touch this one.

  281. @tendonut

“Just go away, no one wants to hear what you have to say.”

    That makes two of us.

  282. Ugh, just ugh. I forced myself to play more of this train wreck of a game. If this pile of shit inscribed onto a fail-ray disc is the game of the year then the gaming industry has truly ended. Boring gameplay, boring characters, boring story, dumbed down controls. And to top it off the whole sexual tension between Drake and that foreign slut is just aggravating. I really thought they were just going to screw right there at the cantina at the start of the game. With how terrible the acting is I assumed that it was perhaps a porno or something. Then if Drake and the slut aren’t bad enough you have the dark haired woman who just comes off as a third wheel.

There was a time, as with what happened with the CD-i and the Zelda games that were made for it, that people would have turned their nose up at a game such as this. What happened?

  283. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 21st, 2009 at 2:56 pm

    @erik

Then what is your game of the year? Personally while I enjoyed Uncharted 2 a shit ton, I would pick for me Borderlands.

  284. Probably Borderlands. With the concept that you will quite likely never come across the same gun twice, with some reward based exceptions, combined with four classes it really gives a lot of replayability. I just hope that Gearbox doesn’t drop the ball on this one and just not do any more with this property. They really hit their stride now that they aren’t just doing mods for Half-Life anymore.

But in all honesty, no, I am not going to give any PS3 game a fair shake. I feel that Sony has been really disrespectful to it’s fans who supported them even through buying a shit ton of faulty PS2s. Some of us really don’t care how good the soup is. If the soup Nazi is a douchebag, then we want no soup.

  285. InfraredChimera Says:

    @erik

Personally I would like to see “slotted weapons” where you could put eridion artifacts in the guns to create your own elemental weaponry. Or to simplify it, or Gearbox could take a cue from Blizzard and kinda copy what they did with Diablo 2 in terms of custumizing your guns and shields. Otherwise addd some more personality with the 4 characters in the game and a even bigger world (and varied quests) but otherwise I’m sold for a sequel already.
But as Sony goes with the PS3, the same can be said for MS and its faulty 360s. While yeah $600 was a slap to the face of the consumers but isn’t releasing faulty hardware and denying it for almost 2 years just as bad if not worse. Either ways the companies could give two shits and a fuck about us, otherwise is always been about the bottom line is what the truly care about.

  286. Um, ok. So when did we start using Metacritic to decide if a game was sucessful? So what if a POS3 game has a high metacritic score, it does not mean the game sold well (case in point LBP)! POS3 games with a high Metacritic score have NEVER sold as well as the equivalent on 360. This is the most tell tale sign of a console in trouble! POS3 is indeed in last place, and for very good reasons!

MW2 – Game of the Year (screw Manraider 2)

  287. @xbox360FTW

You’re right, Metacritic doesn’t show you sales. It shows you flat out game quality. But when a game is given the Game of the Year award, it also doesn’t really care about sales. Sometimes though, it does work out that way like last year with GTA4. But in 2007, I highly doubt Bioshock was the best selling game, yet it won G0tY.

  288. Let me reiterate before erik says something stupid.

Metacritic scores show you flat out game quality according to all professional video game reviewers.

My choice for GoTY though, I may have to say Arkham Asylum (I got it for the 360) or Borderlands (for PC naturally).

  289. @InfaredChimera

Slotted weapons couldn’t hurt. But with randomly generated weapons and multiple classes with multiple possible builds there are lots of possibilities.

“But as Sony goes with the PS3, the same can be said for MS and its faulty 360s.”

It’s not really the same. Besides, with how shitty the PS2 was with reliability and how it dominated the market it’s not really an issue. The thing with the PS3 was that you make the PS3 pretty fairly unobtainable to a great deal of your target consumers that made it a success. Then you take the formula that made you a success, that being a focus on the games, and throw that to the wind as well. Then once you’ve knocked down your previous supporters down what do you do? Kick them while they are down, tell them to get a second job.

    @tendonut

“Metacritic scores show you flat out game quality according to all professional video game reviewers. ”

Those reviewers can go get fucked and die somewhere where I won’t have to see or smell them.

  290. Also. “GOTY” = Spike TV. So if I wanted to know what the lowest common denominator thinks about a game I would shoot off an email to El Pressador.

  291. Rented Demon’s Souls, didn’t like it. Raise your hand if you saw that coming?

  292. Suuuuuuure you did. How come you didnt like it? too hard? i just recently played forza 3 and god damn is it a awful game. I dont know how people consider this a driving simulator . Its a arcade racer at its best.

  293. @mich99

I didn’t like it because I didn’t like it. Do you not believe in the possibility that someone might not like it?

  294. Yes i do but only if they try it 1st. Plus i just cant believe you hate every single exclusive ps3 game. Even if you do end up enjoying one, You would probably deny it.

  295. @mich99

Well I did try it. And guess what? I did not like it. And your belief has no bearing of the fact that every PS3 exclusive I’ve played, I’ve hated. But you have actually used the term “slim effect”, so your inability to believe such things could stem from fanboyhood.

  296. @tendonut

So I’ve done as you suggested and I’ve tried Demon’s Souls and Uncharted with predictable results. But I am willing to keep up this up as long as it takes. So what is your next suggestion that you just “know” that I will like?

  297. @erik

No one believes anything you say. You have no credibility. But I am glad I was able to get you to part with some money. So I think I won.

  298. @tendonut

So are you just pissy because you thought that I would have played those games and become a nob gobbling PS3 fanboy? [ sarcasm ] Because who could possibly hate Drake and his skipping adventures right? [ /sarcasm ]

As far as making me part with money. Not really enough for you to get excited over. I have a really great video store near me. I can rent a game for five days for $6. And some games if you rent them you get a free rental on any non new release movie.

  299. so let me get this straight. erik provides the proposal that he’s going to provide _exactly_ the same opinions and does so, but you continue to engage him on his terms?

What kind of weak-minded idiots are you, anyway?

“…I am glad I was able to get you to part with some money. So I think I won.”

Think all you want, tendonut – erik KNOWS he won (and I do, as well), cause you simply agreed to continue to engage him on his terms.

    Just, wow.

erik, next you should ask these people for money so you can spit in their faces. Just to remember to declare the income on your taxes. You’ll be bloody rich.

  300. So how did everyone make out on Christmas? My gf got me the 360 racing wheel..w00t! Forza is more awesome than before now.

  301. Gamewise I only got a $25 gift card. So I’ll probably buy Web of Shadows. I liked it, but I didn’t $60 like it when I first rented it. But used at with a lower price, yeah. There is also that Megaman collection I was considering also.

  302. InfraredChimera Says:

Just bought myself a tritton headset and possibly going to pick up L4D2 or just save that money and get me Bayonetta.

  303. @InfraredChimera

I almost bought a Tritton headset when I was shopping for them last year. Ended up settling for the Sennheiser 280HD Pros. The only flaw is it doesn’t have an integrated mic (because they are DJ Headphones).

So far since Christmas, me and my gf have been looking for a copy of Burnout Revenge for the 360..she prefers it over Paradise. I’d buy it online on demand but I only have 7GB left of hard drive space and don’t want to eat up 3.6GB with that game. Also, was anyone aware that Final Fantasy VIII is FINALLY available on the PSN for download as of 12/17 for $9.99? That is the only FF game I never played. Just made my weekend.

  304. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 27th, 2009 at 3:14 pm

    @tendonut

You wouldn’t believe what I had to do to get them to work for the 360. First of all MS wants you to buy aa HD Audio Dongle for $50 (which includes a hdmi cable, fuck that shit), secondly I had to find my old composite cables (which I’m running through HDMI), then I had to crack open the plastic casing where it plugs into the 360 so that it would fit.
So after a hour I got the fuckers to work and it only took about 5 minutes to get too work on the ps3. So in this case fuck MS for making people buy more shit to get more shit too work.
    Otherwise that headset fucking rocks.

  305. Better to buy more shit to get shit to work rather than being forced to buy shit that you don’t give a fuck if it works or not. Fuck $ony for making me buy wifi and a hard drive.

  306. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 27th, 2009 at 5:13 pm

    @erik

Not that I don’t like the a`la carte way that MS has offered, but what pisses me off is that as a consumer we get a choice offered to buy that additional stuff if we want it aslong its from MS.
Also this choice quote, “Fuck $ony for making me buy wifi and a hard drive.” is so fucking stupid I don’t know where to begin. First of all the original Xbox had a built in ethernet port (when high speed internet wasn’t widely available or too expensive too own) and secondly a built in harddrive (that couldn’t be removed unless you wanted to void your warrenty). So really is it fuck sony or fuck MS in the first place for putting “shit that you don’t give a fuck about”?

  307. @InfaredChimera

“Also this choice quote, “Fuck $ony for making me buy wifi and a hard drive.” is so fucking stupid I don’t know where to begin.”

You could begin at the insane price that Sony expected their customers to pay. And don’t give me the price drop bullshit. Because the price should have started lower and dropped from there.

“First of all the original Xbox had a built in ethernet port (when high speed internet wasn’t widely available or too expensive too own) and secondly a built in harddrive (that couldn’t be removed unless you wanted to void your warrenty). So really is it fuck sony or fuck MS in the first place for putting “shit that you don’t give a fuck about”?”

And thank you for backing up everything that I’ve been saying. Ta-dah, the PS2 was a really great system. Functional but affordable, with a focus on the games. The original xbox, gimmicks and no games, I despised the damn thing.

Microsoft has learned from their mistakes. Sony on the other hand has let their ego from their prior success go to their head and assumes that their customers will buy anything at unlimited prices.

So it is really fuck MS in the first place for putting shit that I don’t give a fuck about, but not now. Now it is really $ony that I say fuck them for putting in shit I don’t give a fuck about.

    Thank you for your support.

  308. And furthermore I would only connect Microsoft based products into my 360 if given a choice otherwise. I MIGHT connect 3rd party components into my PS3, but only because I really don’t give a fuck if it dies or not. But I do NOT do the third-party shit. I’ve had some bad experiences with shit-ware.

  309. @InfraredChimera

“then I had to crack open the plastic casing where it plugs into the 360 so that it would fit.”

I have that same setup, but notice if you switch HDMI inputs on your TV while using your Xbox, your system will reboot when you switched back to it’s input.

Microsoft REALLY should have included an optical audio port right from the get-go like the PS3.

  310. Err, I mean on the system, not in the proprietary plug.

It would also be nice if MS would allow you to put your own fucking hard drive in it without voiding the warranty. For a company that is putting SO much emphasis on downloadable content, they sure have the worst storage devices. How about being able to plug any old hard drive in via USB? The PS3 can do it, why won’t Microsoft let you do it with the 360? I wouldn’t even care if they just forced you to format the drive with some proprietary format so they can stuff their DRM on it. I don’t care. I had to break down today and fill up 3.6GB of the available 7GB of storage on my 360 to download Burnout Revenge. because i can’t find it in ANY stores. (I insist on the 360 version because for racing games, I DEFINITELY prefer the 360 controller over the PS3. The analog triggers are placed so poorly on the PS3)

Hell, what about putting music on the 360? I have to actually rip a physical CD and not just copy over MP3s to the hDD? WHY? I can just fucking plug a USB flash drive with music files into my PS3 and do custom soundtracks with minimal effort. What is this preventing Microsoft?

  311. “What is this preventing Microsoft?”

Not bogging their machine down as some omni-multimedia-trainwreck-buttfuck like the PS3 did. Maybe next you will be able to connect a blue-tooth toaster into the Omni-station! Sony isn’t going to be happy until there is more shit connected to it than a fuse box. By that point you will have to hack away at it with an axe to find the games part.

I really feel that the next playstation, if Sony doesn’t mend their ways, will be some sort of internet enabled docking station for the multimedia/cellphone/portable movie/pda/gps/MP3/nightmare for the PSP2. But neither will play games.

  312. @erik

“Not bogging their machine down as some omni-multimedia-trainwreck-buttfuck like the PS3 did.”

Because a simple software update removing stupid DRM will bog down the 360. You’re a fucking moron.

  313. And you are a fucking jackass if you think that a fucking game system needs to be sycnching with fucking iphones and fucking ipods, and fucking ifuckingwhatever.

I pray to any and all deities, both fictional and potentially real that Microsoft never removes that DRM.

  314. tendonut,

why would you want an optical out on 360 when you have HDMI? HDMI goes to the TV, the TV has optical out for sound systems that don’t have HDMI (mine does, so no need for optical).

Another useless feature on the POS3, as is the bluetooth.

  315. @xbox360FTW

My audio receiver doesn’t support HDMI like you mentioned. It’s a high end Onkyo but just old enough to not support HDMI. The TV on the other hand like MOST HDTVs from last year, doesn’t forward the audio over to the receiver in anything other than stereo. So I have to send the HDMI video to the TV but the audio separately from the 360 to the receiver over Optical audio. See my problem?

Also, the Xbox 360 also uses bluetooth for it’s controllers. It just has it totally locked down with DRM so you can ONLY use it for the controllers.

Remember, the 360 can do just about everything the PS3 can do minus Blu-ray, but MS has things locked down hardcore. It just requires a software update to unlock it. So the features are there, just hidden.

  316. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 29th, 2009 at 10:33 am

    @erik

    Because adding fuctionality with popular devices (such as ipods) is a fucking stupid idea. Like seriously who doesn’t have there whole music catalog on a MP3 player nowadays? I mean cds are still easier to handle than something that stores all that music in one easy device. {end sarcasm}

  317. “Remember, the 360 can do just about everything the PS3 can do minus Blu-ray, but MS has things locked down hardcore. It just requires a software update to unlock it. So the features are there, just hidden.”

Good! And lets hope they stay locked down! We really don’t need the 360 going down the path that the PS3 already went down. I really don’t want my game system compatible with everything in my fucking house. I want my game system compatible with my game system.

Does your toilet flush when you shake your iphone when it’s synched with your PS3 tendonut?

I got a question for ya; Do you get pissed when you buy a camera and there is a bunch of other settings and options that are included or do you just find the one camera that is around the same amount of money and does a helluva lot less?

  319. I find the camera that is around the same amount of money and does what I want it to. So the one that does a helluva lot less.

  320. @InfaredChimera

I got a question for you. Would you rather have a toaster that makes toast when you press the lever down. Or some sort of multi-media breakfast blue-tooth device that has an instruction manual thick as a New York City phone book that you have to read to find out how to run the bread particle thermal sensor?

  321. InfraredChimera Says:
    December 29th, 2009 at 1:25 pm

    @erik

Aslong its the same price, yes a multi-media toaster would actually fucking rock. Thank you very much.

  322. i dont know about you erik but most people like to get the most bang out of a buck. So if i had to choose between a ps3 and a 360, It all depends on which one gives you the most value.

  323. For me getting the most bang for my buck is getting something that does what I want, does only what I want, and does it well.

So I would consider something like say, the Retro Duo to be a much better value than the PS3.

  324. @erik

It’s funny that just you knowing that the system is capable of doing more than what you need it to do is enough to make you hate it, despite the 360 being capable of doing it all as well (except Blu-Ray) if MS would unhide it. You are paying for that functionality in the 360, but they are just limiting it. I wanted to bring my Gears of War 2 save to a friends house but I don’t want to buy an Xbox memory card when the thing is perfectly capable of using flash drives, if only MS would allow it. It’s bullshit.

Also, because I don’t follow the releases that closely, I was not aware that the Slim is now including a 250GB HDD. That’s over double the capacity of the 360 Elite for the same price. This doesn’t make a difference to those who won’t download much stuff from the XBL Marketplace (myself included), but for those who do (a.k.a, Microsoft’s ideal customers) it is a big selling point.

It’s funny that you would want to be bogged down under so much useless garbage that gets in the way. Lets hope that shit stays hidden or Microsoft will be down a customer.

    @mich99

My $20 cell phone makes phone calls.

  328. Also, Microsoft doesn’t make you pay for WiFi or a Hard Drive like Sony does. So no, you aren’t getting the same “functionality”.

  329. @erik

Considering the PS3 is now $50 more than the 360, it seems most people are willing to accept the included WiFi and 250GB HDD. And if you are one who wants an 360 Arcade, then you just simply aren’t part of the mainstream demographic that Sony/Microsoft are targeting.

And tell me how unlocking the features the PS3 has that the 360 hides bogs down anything whatsoever. Hell, even tell me how it’s intrusive and how you even know it exists. I have a friend who bought his PS3 and connected it to a 37″ TV over composite cables and was completely unaware that it played blu-ray movies, allowed connection to any bluetooth device, included wifi, and connected with the PSP. Chances are if you weren’t told it could do it, you’d never know. And lets not forget that you bought it when it was a butt-rape price.

  330. @tendonut

“Considering the PS3 is now $50 more than the 360, it seems most people are willing to accept the included WiFi and 250GB HDD. ”

    Too bad.

“And if you are one who wants an 360 Arcade, then you just simply aren’t part of the mainstream demographic that Sony/Microsoft are targeting.”

Dumbasses? Lets glue a stapler onto there. Then the dumbasses will pay another $50.

  331. Actually, that is a good question. Do you have a 360 Arcade? Because if that is the case, your whole hatred of extra stuff you don’t need makes a lot of sense and I may actually understand your angle. But if you have a 360 Pro/Elite, then your argument about forcing a hard drive down your throat is rather moot.

I REALLY wish the 360 came with a 250GB HDD even if you bought the Elite. If you buy a lot of games on Demand or in general do what MS wants and buy lots of movies as well, the 20GB in my 360 and the 60GB in the current gen 360 Pro is just way too small. The cost of cracking your system open and replacing it with an aftermarket HDD is quite a bit more expensive then the extra $50 Sony charges to include it and give you a blu-ray player.

Also, have you seen the cost of WiFi cards nowadays? You can go on Newegg and buy a PCIe 1x card for under $10. I doubt that is adding anything to the PS3′s cost anymore. It’s just too inexpensive to be noteworthy.

  332. @tendonut

Also, don’t get too arrogant with yourself. I knew all about the PS3′s bloated features before you told me.

  333. @tendonut

“Actually, that is a good question. Do you have a 360 Arcade? Because if that is the case, your whole hatred of extra stuff you don’t need makes a lot of sense and I may actually understand your angle. But if you have a 360 Pro/Elite, then your argument about forcing a hard drive down your throat is rather moot.”

Actually, no it’s not. Because it’s an option. So if my 360 would red ring, all I would have to do is buy the arcade version and connect my old HDD to it, and I’m good to go. With the PS3? All new HDD, ANOTHER wifi I don’t need. I guess it’s a good thing if/when/hopefully my PS3 dies I don’t intend on buying another one eh?

  334. @erik

“Also, don’t get too arrogant with yourself. I knew all about the PS3’s bloated features before you told me.”

I never said you didn’t. You’d have to be stupid not to know what you were buying. But I am saying they are FAR from intrusive and at the current price point, not exactly raising the costs anymore. Few people are interested in a stripped down 360 Arcade. It is targeted towards those who play occasionally and wouldn’t be patching any games, connecting it to the internet, anything like that. It’s MS’s greed that doesn’t stick a larger HDD in the 360. For the price you pay for the 120GB HDD, you know damn well you can find a 250GB 2.5″ drive for HALF that online. Sony just lets you do whatever.

Flat out, that additional cost of the PS3 over the 360 Pro is Blu-Ray and I can agree that they never should have forced it this generation. But to say the system is bloated because of all the features is just plain ignorant.

  335. Maybe I could perhaps give out a small mote of forgiveness to Sony if they got rid of the ability to play Blu-ray movies, ditched the HDD, blue-tooth support, the ability to use flash memory, wifi, the ability to install an operating system, and a fuck ton of other shit I know I’m not remembering.

They could call it the PS3 Game System. Sell it for $250-$275. It would make a killing.

  336. @erik

“Actually, no it’s not. Because it’s an option. So if my 360 would red ring, all I would have to do is buy the arcade version and connect my old HDD to it, and I’m good to go”

Or you just fucking RMA it like smart people do. The things have 3 year warranty on RROD (I just got mine sent back). And wouldn’t your anger rather be with the fact that your system red ringed in the first place and not that the PS3 would be expensive to replace if yours somehow died with it’s incredibly low fail rate?

  337. @tendonut

“And wouldn’t your anger rather be with the fact that your system red ringed in the first place”

No. Not in the slightest. Why do you ask?

One thing that did make me mad recently. I rented District 9 on Blu-Ray. Did you know there is a fucking demo for God of War 3 on there? What the fuck is up with that? It is quite obvious what Sony cares about this generation. It’s not games, it’s fucking blu-ray. Everything else is just there to lead back to that shit.

  338. @erik

It’s not games, it’s fucking blu-ray. Everything else is just there to lead back to that shit.

I will agree with you here. This is why Blu-Ray is in the system to begin with. It was totally unnecessary. MS is doing just fine with DVD9. Also, I bought District 9 on I think Sunday and yeah, I was fucking pissed as well when I saw it came with the GoW3 demo. But I never played GoW 1 and 2 so I didn’t mind spending the $40 to get the GoW Collection. Its about what I would spend to get 1 and 2 on the PS2, but at 720p so it’s at least presentable on my 1080p TV.

Regarding why there is a demo of God of War 3 on the District 9 blu-ray; its called cross-promotion. Since the movie side of sony is its own thing just like the games division of it. Yes they work for the same overarching company (Sony) but they are ran by different heads of those divisions. Why do you guys think that Ghostbusters came out on the Wii, DS and 360 (even though Colunbia pictures, owned by Sony Pictures, owns the rights to the Ghostbusters).

  340. @InfaredChimera

“Why do you guys think that Ghostbusters came out on the Wii, DS and 360 (even though Colunbia pictures, owned by Sony Pictures, owns the rights to the Ghostbusters).”

Are you aware of franchising or the basic concept of it in the restaurant industry?

  342. Except I’m not talking about franchising.

I’m talking about smuggling in a Sony format (blu-ray) under a name of something that people want (Playstation) despite it being a provably bad game format. And then rub our noses in it with crap such as this.

If you can somehow not smell the corporate bullshit, then I am astonished. Actually I’m astonished you somehow think this, or my issue is with franchising. Are you THAT thick?

    @erik

Well the inclusion of the God of War 3 demo on a sci-fi movie such as District 9 kinda makes me go WTF. But the key age demographic for the movie and game are in the same range, so really it makes sense in terms of attracting a audience into the game through the release of a movie.
Now would you have a problem if there was a new Aliens vs Predator movie coming out on video this month and on it was a demo for the AvP game thats actually set to release in February?
Or how about this, if you wanted to, you could have bought the Watchmen on blu-ray with the End is Nigh games for like $50 (or something like that).
Really its not corporate “bullshit” at all, its called taking advantage of what you got to put out as much brand awarness (or building up hype on many different mediums as possible).
And really in all honesty, does blu-ray really affect your enjoyment of a good game (whoops i forgot who i was talking too)

  344. @InfaredChimera

The point that you can’t see this trojan horse that is blu-ray for what it is is rather boggling to the mind.

    @erik

The real point is that you don’t have a fucking clue what you are typing about. Your arguments are based upon flimsly opinions and frankly noone gives a flying fuck what we have to think at all.
So here is the companies that are part of the board of directors for the Blu-Ray Disc Association:
The current 20 board members (as of June 2009) are:[4]

    Apple Inc.
    Dell Inc.
    Hewlett-Packard
    Hitachi, Ltd.
    Intel Corporation
    LG Electronics
    Mitsubishi Electric
    Panasonic Corporation
    Pioneer Corporation
    Royal Philips Electronics
    Samsung Electronics
    Sharp Corporation
    Sony Corporation
    Sun Microsystems
    TDK Corporation
    Thomson SA
    20th Century Fox
    Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group
    Warner Bros. Entertainment
    (fucking with you is fun!)

So yes Sony and a bunch of other companies all support this format and all have a stake in this medium as well. Boy I bet you didn’t bitch and complain as much with the built-in DVD drive that was in the PS2. Also did you know its up too you if you wanna watch movies on the blu-ray format? You don’t HAVE to watch movies that way, DVDs work just fine (and they get upscaled if you got a HDTV as well).

  346. @InfaredChimera

I am laughing at you. Really. If you cannot see that Sony used the Playstation name to proliferate the blu-ray format despite it being terrible for games well, I pity you. I mean even tendonut sees it, and he is one of YOU Sony drones.

But no, really, pretend that it was one big coincidence. Pretend your Kool-aid doesn’t taste funny.

  347. From the blu-ray article on wikipedia:

“HD DVD had a head start in the high definition video market, as Blu-ray Disc sales were slow to gain market share. The first Blu-ray Disc player was perceived as expensive and “buggy”, and there were few titles available.[33] This changed when the PlayStation 3 was launched, since every PS3 unit also functioned as a Blu-ray Disc player. At CES 2007, Warner proposed Total Hi Def—a hybrid disc containing Blu-ray on one side and HD DVD on the other—but it was never released. By January 2007, Blu-ray discs had outsold HD DVDs,[34] and during the first three quarters of 2007, BD outsold HD DVDs by about two to one. In a June 28, 2007 press release, Twentieth Century Fox cited Blu-ray Disc’s adoption of the BD+ anticopying system as a key factor in their decision to support the Blu-ray Disc format.[35][36] In February 2008, Toshiba withdrew its support for the HD DVD format, leaving Blu-ray as the victor.[37]

Some analysts believe that Sony’s PlayStation 3 video game console played an important role in the format war, believing that it acted as a catalyst for Blu-ray Disc, as the PlayStation 3 used a Blu-ray Disc drive as its primary information storage medium.[38] They also credited Sony’s more thorough and influential marketing campaign.[39]“

Thank you Captain Obvious! I couldn’t figure it without you!
If you don’t like the format don’t support it, and if you didn’t like the format then don’t buy a device that uses it, and then don’t bitch about it after you bought something you dislike in the first place.
The only person that is too blame for buying a PS3 is you and you alone.

  349. @InfaredChimera

So now you change your tune after I point out your idiocy? Typical.

  350. @erik

I think you and InfraredChimera were arguing two separate (yet valid) points. InfraredChimera was arguing that the GoW3 demo included with District 9 was brilliant cross-promotion for Sony and that is correct. But you are arguing that the PS3′s inclusion of the Blu-Ray drive was just to promote their movie format first and foremost and I agree with you on that point. Sony had no business pushing Blu-Ray on gamers when it was clearly not necessary and that was how they justified the disgusting price of $599 way back in 2006.

But this is now 2010 now. The PS3 is now $50 more than a “real” Xbox 360 (aka, 360 Pro, $249). The argument about the insanely high price is gone out the window for all but the most frugal gamers. Removing the Blu-ray player from the argument because far fewer gamers care about that than the other features the PS3 has over the 360, the extra $50 is DEFINITELY justified for the vast majority of the gamers. Some people LIKE being able to pick what wireless (bluetooth) headset they can use on their system, especially if they already have one for their cell phone. Not everyone likes the 360 headset. Some people like being able to stream anything they want and KNOW it will be supported and use any media server they want, not a proprietary expensive MS solution. And all those features can be implemented on the 360 if MS would just allow it. It wouldn’t even cost anything!

Sure if you decide to buy a new system when (and I do mean WHEN) your 360 red rings, it would be nice to spend $199 instead of $249, but that is an incredibly rare occurrence since MS is very good about giving you no hassle for fixing your system. PS3′s just don’t break that often, if at all. So using the argument that “if it breaks, it costs more to replace” is pretty fucking stupid. Ever buy a new car? Same thing. You could buy a really nice $50,000 car instead of a $18,000 car, but I doubt the cost of replacing it with an identical car if it has massive mechanical failures crosses your mind. Your warranty covers mostly everything.

Basically, with the exception of you, people usually like getting the most for their money. Think of it this way. If you were at the grocery store and buying something you want to eat, say, a box of pasta, and there was a sale “Buy one, get one for a penny” would you buy just one or would you grab the second one for a penny more? It doesn’t go bad over time or anything, so you could store it away until you need it. That’s exactly what this has come down to.

  351. @tendonut

“The argument about the insanely high price is gone out the window for all but the most frugal gamers.”

Moot point, on two fronts. First off, lowering the price does not magically change the past and mean that the price wasn’t too high. That is reason enough to hate them. Secondly the price has lowered from an insane price. But it should have lowered from a sane price. Which means it we could have had an even better price. But, you know, wifi.

“Some people LIKE being able to pick what wireless (bluetooth) headset they can use on their system, especially if they already have one for their cell phone.”

And some people don’t. I suppose I’m not in the target group of “dumbass who makes far too much money”. Which is why I don’t have a phone with a bunch of useless ass features.

“Some people like being able to stream anything they want and KNOW it will be supported and use any media server they want, not a proprietary expensive MS solution. And all those features can be implemented on the 360 if MS would just allow it. It wouldn’t even cost anything!”

And again, some people would not.

“PS3’s just don’t break that often, if at all.”

I’m sure I can change that.

“Basically, with the exception of you, people usually like getting the most for their money.”

Really? So say there was a box of pasta for $50. It’s regular pasta, but wow! There is a GPS built in to help you find sauce! I think I would spend $1 to get the GPS-free pasta.

  352. “Really? So say there was a box of pasta for $50. It’s regular pasta, but wow! There is a GPS built in to help you find sauce! I think I would spend $1 to get the GPS-free pasta.”

I am not referring to you. No one would turn down a GPS system for their car if it cost an extra $1.

“First off, lowering the price does not magically change the past and mean that the price wasn’t too high”

This still just blows my mind. Your hatred is so misplaced. You need a time machine. Do you hate Japan still because of their past conflicts with the US? Clearly not since 99% of your electronics were made in Japan.

For those who didn’t have more money than since like yourself, when the PS3 was expensive, we just didn’t buy it. Not buy it, then complain about everything you didn’t like about it. For those who were waiting for a price drop though, it is a fantastic deal.

And for the record, the fucking Wii has Wi-Fi and that thing is $199 and includes a game. Wi-Fi is NOT increasing the price of a PS3. Welcome to 2010.

  353. @tendonut

“I am not referring to you. No one would turn down a GPS system for their car if it cost an extra $1.”

I’m talking about a $49 GPS that can only find sauce. It is an extra feature that costs money. By your reasoning everyone would want it.

“And for the record, the fucking Wii has Wi-Fi and that thing is $199 and includes a game. Wi-Fi is NOT increasing the price of a PS3.”

Well something is. And I can promise you that the Wii would be cheaper without the wifi.

  354. @erik

Dude, Wifi is NOT expensive. Hell, its built into tons of things nowadays. The cost of the PS3 comes from the Blu-ray drive since it is still not ideally priced. Also, if you try to find a 60GB drive, it PROBABLY costs more than a 250GB drive judging by how drives are priced.

And a $49 GPS receiver doesn’t have anything to do with pasta in even the slightest stretch of the mind. No one would use it. Clearly lots of people use the stuff you don’t think should be included in the PS3, otherwise it wouldn’t be there. A fair comparison would be a PS3 with an included hamster wheel. No one could draw any connections between those to. Your comparison is too abstract to be valid. For Lenovo, I know for a fact, the average cost to include an 802.11g chipset is about a dollar. You can buy wifi cards for your computer for well under $20. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833166021

So STFU with the wifi. If you’re going to bitch about something unnecessary, bitch about the stupid blu-ray drive Sony forced on consumers. Sony even admitted themselves that it was slowing down production initially and was the cause of the $600 pricetag.

    @erik and tendonut

I’m going to give you guys a different perspective on having a blu-ray drive in a PS3 is brilliant for people like me.

Blu-ray is fucking fantastic when you have small children. Not only there is the anti-scratch coating on the disc themselves to prevent little hands from turning a $20 DVD movie into a skippable mess of garbage thats unwatchable then this leads into the biggest benefit:

Alot of kids movies (disney, dreanworks and a few others) come with a DVD version of the film packaged in with the blu-ray version, so that is a definite plus for a people that are parents and gamers (like me). So having a PS3 does have its benefits outside of playing games on it (for me anyways).

  356. @InfraredChimera

I agree with you that it is nice if you can use it, like myself. But not many people, at least when the PS3 was launched, was interested in a blu-ray drive, especially when the movies were $30+ each easy. And I really like it when the studios give you Blu-Ray and DVD versions together like Half Blood Prince.

I use the PS3 for a lot more than gaming. It is my primary video streamer (except NetFlix, the 360 does it WAY better). I have my Fedora server running MediaTomb which easily streams everything to the PS3 (over wifi no less). I just had my girlfriend and 4 friends over and we watched Revenge of the Nerds that I just downloaded last night. Takes almost no effort to watch it on my 42″ TV because of the unrestricted media extender features that are built into the PS3. Stuff the 360 is perfectly capable of for no additional cost if MS would get their greedy DRM-infested hands off it and let people do what they want with their own console. That’s something I admire about Sony. If the system can do it, they let you do it. It would be really nice if I could save some game saves for 360 games on a flash drive and just take it to a friends house instead of having to either take the entire hard drive with me or buy an overpriced small MS memory card. Sony just lets you use what you have lying around. It didn’t cost anything to add this function and it is just a software update away from having the 360 do it as well. I don’t see this as being “extra crap” since if you didn’t try it, you’d never know it was possible.

  358. @InfraredChimera

“with a DVD version of the film packaged in with the blu-ray version”

Um, HD-DVD did it first when $ony stole poeples money by not doing it. Only when bluray sales tanked did they lower the prices AND bundle a DVD with Bluray. By right, that should ALWAYS be the case with all bluray movies.

We did not need bluray, we still don’t need it. Bluray is still very low compared to DVD. The POS4 and Xbox 720/Next/Whatever should have/had Bluray, not this gen, it wasn’t needed.

As for allowing 360 to run Fedora (or any craptacular linux version), no thanks, don’t want it or need it. Waste of time. That’s why it’s perfect for the POS3.

    Wii WiFi sucks!

I’ll take hard wired over wireless any day, 360 did not need wireless, it’s an addon for a reason.

Oh, 360 price drop again to $159 by Q3 this year. You heard it here first. Bu bye Wii and POS3. Xbox 720 coming out November 2012, just in time to end the world for Wii and POS3!!! :-)

Dude Forza 3 is the shit.

  360. @tendonut

“Dude, Wifi is NOT expensive. Hell, its built into tons of things nowadays.”

Irrelevant. The point of the matter is is that I would prefer, like with the 360, to decide whether or not I have wifi. Instead of having it shoved down my throat. I swear that if I ever needed, for some ungodly reason, my PS3 to work wirelessly I would buy a seperate wifi router just out of pure spite.

“And a $49 GPS receiver doesn’t have anything to do with pasta in even the slightest stretch of the mind. No one would use it. Clearly lots of people use the stuff you don’t think should be included in the PS3, otherwise it wouldn’t be there.”

Irrelevant. The point remains that the PS3 has FAR too many features and far too few options. Can I decide to get wifi if I want it? Nope. Can I decide if I want a hard drive? Nope. Do you want to be able to install an OS on a fucking game system? NO NO NO FUCKING NO, GO KILL YOURSELF NO.

    @InfaredChimera

“I’m going to give you guys a different perspective on having a blu-ray drive in a PS3 is brilliant for people like me.”

You ramble on from there. My rebuttal is, so what?

  361. @erik

Well maybe I didn’t want wireless controllers. Or maybe I didn’t want a network port since I would have no intention of putting my system online. Or maybe I didn’t want USB ports or the ability to play DVD movies. This a la carte idea you have is noble, but you have to draw the line somewhere. One can always complain that their Arcade does more than one wants. Depending on who you are, the 360 Arcade could have a shit-ton more crap than they want. I doubt the people who bought it to play games and games only would be too happy when they find out they are paying extra for the DVD Video licensing crap and the network port or the wireless controllers when they sit a foot from the TV. Or what about the ability to display high def video when they have it connected to a 13″ POS. How insulting is it when they MAKE you pay for component cables instead of simple composite like the PS3? This would never end.

    @InfraredChimera

Do you have a racing wheel for your 360 yet? I was given the official MS one for Christmas which I was not expecting specifically for Forza and the only problem is you really need a stand for it. You can’t use that on your lap, especially with force feedback ripping the wheel out of your hand. I am working on making one from a design I saw online.

Perspective is a key I was trying to convey. What one person may find useless on a device they bought, another will have a use for. I don’t stream shit from my pc to either my 360 or PS3, I don’t uploead photos to them, and I don’t put music on the HDDs. So do I think there completly fucking useless features: nope. Will I use them: Maybe just to see how it works out of curiosity. But I don’t really care as long as the console I bought does its thing I want it to do in the first place, and that’s to play games. I don’t care what type of disc its on aslong the contents of that disc are worth playing in the first place.

  367. @InfaredChimera

“But I don’t really care as long as the console I bought does its thing I want it to do in the first place, and that’s to play games.”

Well, I on the other hand do care. Especially when it’s obvious that the games are a back burner issue with said company. It is obvious with adopting a poor game format as Blu-Ray along with them getting rid of the one useful feature the system had in earlier models, backwards compatibility. It is really telling that they get rid of a game feature.

  368. Also, as far as it “doing what I bought if for, to play games”. I’ve not liked a single game that has come out for the PS3. So I do not think that that statement could apply to me.
