The PlayStation 3 has outsold the Xbox 360
“Statistics published by top game developer Tose show that with 42 million the total number of PS3s sold globally have exceeded the Xbox 360 by a million units.
The statistics come by way of a presentation by Tose (a prolific Kyoto-based game developer best known for not being known, as their games as usually credited exclusively to the company outsourcing the work to them, most often Nintendo) at the Kyoto Cross Media Experience 2010, published by Famitsu.”
- Wii: 74,000,000
- PlayStation 3: 42,000,000
- Xbox 360: 41,000,000

Woot!! Great job Sony!!!!!!!!!!
English, or it didn’t happen.
@erik,
It didn’t happen.
http://www.vgchartz.com/#Worldwide%20Totals
Wii: $75M
PS3: 40M
360: 44M
And for a breakdown by region
http://www.vgchartz.com/hardware_totals.php
The PS3 IS outselling the 360 in EMEAA and Japan, but the US sales are really lacking, giving the 360 the 4M lead.
I’ll just leave this here:

Sony Still Losers After All
Game developer Tose’s proclamation that the PS3 had finally taken the lead in the current generation’s console war has proven false, and the company has issued a grovelling retraction.
“At KYOTO CMEX 2010 our CEO presented a lecture entitled “The 30 year history of gaming.” However, there were errors in the data used and we offer our humble apologies for the inconvenience caused

hrm…seems this post is not only a lie, but a damned lie:
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6283775.html?part=rss&tag=gs_news&subj=6283775
“According to Microsoft’s and Sony’s most recent financial reports, PS3 unit sales continue to close the gap on the Xbox 360. Microsoft’s console holds a slim margin, despite its yearlong head start, with figures through September coming in at 44.6 million Xbox 360s to 41.6 million PS3s.”
But then I would wager this lying post was promulgated as a stop-gap measure (as usual, and of course, this is a deliberately not-serious and not-credible website anyway) to divert attention from the rabid success (thus far) of the kinect, which by many accounts is outperforming (again, thus far), the PSMove.
@Taygee
To be honest though the games for the Kinect at present are a little lackluster. I am holding out hope that something substantial will come along that will make me want to buy it. And I did read where Microsoft is pondering the concept of “hybrid” games where you use both the traditional controller as well as Kinect. That idea has great potential.
@erik,
I don’t hold out hope that there will be any “AAA” titles for the kinect. Motion controls, in general, are a casual niche, and I honestly hope they stay within that realm until the technology vastly improves.
Doesn’t mean I won’t play any of the Kinect games (though I don’t have any timeframe in mind to own the device), just that they won’t replace the FPS (Call of Duty series, mainly) or Sandbox (Crackdown & 2, Saints Row & 2, GTAIV) games I enjoy.
As for the “hybrid” concept, that would have to be done incredibly well to not sacrifice immersion.
I do see some value in motion control gaming, and will likely someday take part in it (hopefully before arthritis becomes a factor – I’m old), but in the near-term see it as mainly something that would interest the kids and for the “family” gaming factor.
However, I will have to rearrange my TV room before doing that, and will perhaps be required to have an addition installed on the house :p (conversely, I could wait until they improve that aspect of the tech as well).
I knew it was to happen one day.
The SDF has run out of partially true statements that they could spin to look good for Sony.
Now they’re posting actual flat out lies.
GG SDF, I’m sure GoaTse5 and Ohno are very pleased.
old:

@taygee
Even though it’s just a tacked on feature, Sony is at least integrating PS Move with real games, not Wii minigame clones. Kinect has potential but MS will first have to cater to the people who actually OWN the system (aka, gamers) and improve their sensor technology to the point where I don’t have to rearrange my apartment to accommodate the ridiculous space that Kinect demands. I was also kind of pumped thinking I may be able to control the system menus while lying on the couch with hand gestures, but then I see it struggles tracking people who aren’t standing.
I still have no plans to currently buy Kinect. But it does seem to be very successful.
I’m pleased to say that my PS3 is still sitting unused and very unloved in it’s sad corner under my entertainment cabinet. It currently resides in a dusty cabinet with a VCR.
Ummm yeah that’s not what that article says at all. Don’t post transparent lies when everyone has access to translator program.

● HISTORY of Tose is truly “30-year history of the game”
November 1, 2010, at the Chamber of Commerce Kyouto, “KYOTO CMEX 2010 (KYOTO Cross Media Experience 2010)” as part of a “business seminar” content held. Outsourcing company Tose’s largest video game software, lecture by President and CEO of Saitou Shigeru “30-year history of the game” was held.
“KYOTO CMEX 2010″ is a cross-media content to be deployed in the stage of Kyoto, Japan and abroad to disseminate information broadly content with the potential to appeal the Kyoto goal of promoting exchange of personnel and the content industry The project has been carried out, the second time this year. Manga is done and events and screenings of animated films, has attracted many visitors (→ Click here for details.) Seminar “content business” is that “KYOTO CMEX 2010″ has been implemented in the event as one of the game film and talk to key people in the animation and content industry, a lecture about the current state of cross-media content rather do something. “Business Seminar” content itself, but talks have been scheduled four times that of the podium in the second, and they said Tose Saito, headquartered in Kyoto. Speaking Tose has a number of international offices, long-established presence in the home video game development company commissioned a staff of 1,000 faces. The president said that “30 year history of the game” that it was a very interesting lecture.
The lecture began with a history of being told where Tose first. Tose was founded in 1979 and started operations from the production of arcade games. Taito’s Space Invaders [] in the previous year only just born, “I was surprised that the levers and buttons to move characters in the screen.’s Move was a culture shock to those in the television,” said Saito is said. At the time, too many [users] to play Space Invaders, 100 yen coin shortage. That the situation was to increase production to 100-yen coin mint. “The games run for one of the great country it is,” Saito recalls nostalgically to those days. The popularity ahead of the NES debuted in 1983, and expand the business planning, development and design Konshumagemu. Since online games and mobile phone content, such as social, business expanded to meet the needs of the moment, the number of titles currently in development, including content for mobile phones and game consoles, books 1857 counting from the rather surprising. Tose without revealing any proprietary title, the game industry truly “unsung hero” I like it. “Development-type contract proposal boasts the world’s development experience as a stagehand,” Saito said. On the other hand, seems to be actively engaged in collaborative, and intercede for the gaming industry with deep ties to the film and animation industry, “cross” that are actively working to expand too. Just, “KYOTO CMEX” We can say firmly that implements corporate philosophy.
Tose then traced the history, the history of the gaming industry. EDSAC was a computer that was formed in the “world’s first computer game,” said that the TicTacToe [○ × ○] and was released in 1972, “the world’s first home video game machine” is said to Odyssey began, a world that is predominate in the market in 2600 and 1977 ATARI, NES has been introduced and laid the foundation for the current video game consoles. For the NES, “technically superb” and Saito. At that time the game was released for NES in addition to a number, “number of colors used in the screen was the default 8 to 16 colors, in colors as NES 出Semashita 52 – 56. In addition to the price The standard was the 30000 yen 60000 yen, NES 14 800 yen. and more substantial content as well … and of course the hit was “(Saito), he says. Tose NES era, but it made a dozen titles, the presentation is to share with us Cartridge LED is also turned on a talk at the time of development. Home appliances are usually to put the power to reveal that the activation LED, but the norm of a lit lamp in the NES or reduce costs, this LED is no light, NES than 100 for testing Tose was introduced in the whether it was difficult to know what NES is turned on. On the other hand, at the time of the cartridge design for each manufacturer are free to 行Eta, LED cassettes that they give it a thought. “LED’s have been very happy with the maker,” Saito said, laughing.
And since the SNES and Mega Drive era of 16-bit PlayStation and PlayStation 2 and was adopted into the disk media. CD and DVD disc to bottleneck in most such as increasing development costs. “(Such as the NES) 4 that capacity, such as KB – 2 5 – 3 months, but had been completed at 10 million yen to several million yen a few (such as PlayStation) from £ 10 million that MB to hundreds of millions. It (PlayStation 2 and later) and one hundred million gigabytes – it takes 10 billion. There are also three titles and made a staff of over 30 years. Now is not the time to not get a large company “(Saito), he says. Now, the development costs of over 10 times during the NES – the number has increased 100-fold, not the game is pretty much the same price. “In this sense, the age of gamers today, the game that can not bargain,” Saito said.
We will present the history of mobile phones was introduced essential in today’s game business talk. The turning point came in 1999, NTT DoCoMo i-mode it appeared. The i-mode “used from” speak to the expansion of mobile phone features and changes. In 2001, the FOMA 3G appeared to be more capable, “NTT DoCoMo to cooperate with people, by an attempt to provide rich content for mobile phones, the time to scramble,” and Saito. At the time, that had developed many of the Puriinsutoruapuri Tose, I would say that suggests episodic played a major role in how the spread of mobile phone applications Tose.
Presentation, and finally to the future of the gaming industry. Transition to a stronger yen and new hardware, copy the problem, and represented by the rise of social gaming free game, “Kibishikatta the past year and a half” (Saito), but the game industry that is changing the situation to come here it. Needless to say that the advent of Nintendo 3DS. “Nintendo’s announcement 3DS company is engaged in a race to develop the floodgates. The reality is finally escapes from the clouds” (Saito) said.
Saito, meanwhile, in the coming future cloud computing era, “the user terminal does not have more than two,” predicts. In other words, the turning point of the game that he does not go into whether the user terminal Tatsu Nohu elected. How could it iPad phone, Nintendo or a smartphone or 3DS + …. Mr. Saito, who is mentioned in a speech to the five patterns, competition for dominance in any case is likely to be increasingly fierce.
Finally, Mr. Saito, “it is desirable future of their industry shows that Haipakurieita. In Kyoto has a geographical advantage that everything is aligned in a compact, a lot of people will visit. Kyouto I want a lot of people are growing in ground that “comments, and the lecture ended.
Why aren’t Ohwow and GT5 here to defend SDF?
Its almost disappointing that those lose stools are nowhere in sight.
I’m here!
I don’t really care if this is true or not. The fact is the PS3 is extremely close to Xbox 360 sales now despite the 360 having an entire year head start. Sad.
ANYWAY, 2 days until the GOTY comes out, I can’t wait!
How is it a great accomplishment? Sony has a country where it has a constant advantage. The slanties like slanty made stuff.
And MS has the advantage in the USA.
Cry some more. Japanese just like the superior console, I don’t blame them.
Or they had money to burn on an overpriced feature lump. No, make that an overpriced cancerous feature lump that is the worlds most powerful dust magnet.
But wasn’t there some sort of a racin’ game for the feature lump that some hicks were getting excited about? Grain Tourist Moe Fief or something like that?
http://www.jeuxvideo.com/articles/0001/00013884-gran-turismo-5-test.htm
OUCH a SEVEN.
It’s rather sad that you mongoloids will gather an opinion on the game from gaming journalism reviews, which we all know are complete racing game experts.
It’s a fantastic game, it really is. But it’s not the absolute powerhouse that a lot of people were hyping it up to be. So I guess that means it’s a failure, right?
Also I’d like to say that people that wanted and are going to buy GT5 don’t care about review scores.
Fans of the series and sim racing fans will buy the game and love it. People who don’t will laugh at review scores.
In the end, you either love it or you don’t.
Funny how that logic only applies to PS3 titles.
Also, from IGN:
“your fellow racers will pay little attention to your on-track maneuvers, often braking at inexplicable moments and turning what should be a high-octane contest into a comic bout of very expensive bumper cars.”
Wow, so much for a realistic racing experience.
Its falling short of perfect.
Something 360 games get shocking exposes written about them for. Why isn’t the SDF covering this? Surely they wish to inform the public that GT5 faltered.
@ohwow
“It’s rather sad that you mongoloids will gather an opinion on the game from gaming journalism reviews, which we all know are complete racing game experts.”
No no no no no, you don’t get to get out of it that easy. YOU were the one trying to hype it up and say that it was going to be “GOTY”. You don’t get the privilege now of saying that things like that don’t matter.
Erik has you dead to rights, Ohwow!
But I suspect you are an SDF contributor, so this is par for the course.
Only the usual suspects are giving it a perfect score.
Many reviewers are just plain disappointed in this title, others the rest rating it just slightly above that new NFS game, which is a multiplatform title. Some point out that the non-premium cars are just laughable, the physics are literally last gen, the damage model is terrible, and its environments are very GT4. It even has some game breaking bugs. PD is already doing damage control, and announcing a patch. So much for this perfection you Sony morons keep touting.
IT ISN’T PERFECT! LOL!!!!!!!!!
Among other sites GT5 is not measuring up:
IGN’s score for Forza 3 – 9.4
IGN’s score for GT5 – 8.5
Wasn’t it supposed to be spanking Forza’s ass?
As a simulator, GT is better than Forza, night races, rallying on snow and gravel, weather changes etc. are very nice additions. As an experience however, it loses out to Forza. The online integration in Forza is years ahead of GT5. And, lets face it, rehashing GT4 models in a game that took five, six years to come out is just fucking lazy.
My 0.02c as an unbiased simulator fan
GT5 is held to much higher standards than Forza 3. Not even you xbox fanboys can deny that.
I’ve played both (I can take a picture of my Forza 3 achievements if you don’t believe me). GT5 is a far superior SIM racer. The physics take a giant dump all over Forza and it offers an overall much better package for your money.
The problems are the inconsistency in the graphics and the damage modelling which is a little disappointing. BUT you can play the entire game using premium cars which look absolutely wonderful, and a lot better than Forza.
But if you enjoy putting kitties on your cars, by all means think Forza is the better sim racing game. But please play both first before forming an opinion.
@ohwow
I HAVE played them both. I bought Forza 3 a week after launch and 100%’d it. I’m playing GT5 right now.
Now to take that statement apart:
1) The reason GT5 is being scruitinised so thoroughly is because it has taken them so damn long to make it. If a game is in development for five years, it deserves to be held to higher standards than a game that is developed for two.
2) Damage modelling is subject to manufacturer meddling, yes. However, graphics are something they can control, and to have incredibly obvious jaggies on some cars on the most powerful console on the market, that is ridiculous. And to limit yourself to the premium cars is to limit yourself to only 20% of the car list. But, for the most part the standards blend in with the premiums fairly well.
3) Don’t fob off the paint function like that. It’s amazing to see what people can do with it, and it provides another way for people to contribute to the game.
GT5: Better simulator, without a shadow of a doubt.
FM3: Better game.
Quinntan, a winner is you.
GT5 deserves every piece of scrutiny it gets, after all the boasting and claims PD made, they’re going to get their face SHOVED in the shit for the game not delivering.
But it does deliver.
I guess metacritic ratings is all that matters to you
@slimdefect: It’s the best simulator on the market, but all things considered, I don’t see how it took them five years to knock it out.
@ohwow: I agree with you, it’s a better racer than Forza. But it is inferior as a game. Still have to give the online a proper looksee, though.
“I guess metacritic ratings is all that matters to you
”
How about we go back through all these previous articles and cherry pick every post you’ve made about a 360 game having a lower metacrtic score.
You’re in too deep to change your story now, you little tool.
Qunntan, which is why GT5 deserves the blasting its getting. Gamers want games, not simulators, and I’m not convinced of it’s superiority as a simulator. The damage model is terrible, and not even fully enabled.
As for online, you might be waiting a while, it’s badly broken.
Feel free to go look.
Have you played GT5? or do you always let game journalism dictate your opinions of games?
@Slim
It’s pretty solid as a sim, and in all fairness, Gran Turismo markets itself as “The Real Racing Simulator”, so its understandable that it focuses on that aspect. The damage modelling is spectacularily half-assed at the best of times and on standard cars is nothing more than a texture change. But damage modelling is not a card that Forza 3 plays all that well either, so bear that in mind.
Saying it’s a simulator, shouldn’t excuse it. If anything it should damn it further. Everything that Forza 3 does, GT5 was going to do bigger and better. That includes damage. Nascar 2006 is more of a simulator than GT5
I can assume you’ve played the game to make such statements.
Oh wait.
@slimdefect: Forza 3 doesn’t exactly have top-notch damage modelling either. The damage is limited to pre-generated stuff, whereas GT5 makes its up on the fly.
Blew in from N4G. The GT5 apologists are fucking hilarious!
GT5′s damage system is fail.
Sure it deforms models on the fly, but its useless eye candy, because its not even fully implemented!
I do have to admit that ohwow’s back peddling is seriously hilarious! Going within a matter of days of declaring it to be GOTY to saying that review scores don’t matter.
As far as Gran Turismo being held to a higher standard than Forza, no. The word you are looking for is overrated.
But the fact remains that with the hilariously long development period Gran Turismo has no excuse for it having the problems that you brush off when you say that review scores don’t matter.
Not to mention all the promises it’s creator made!
Now he’s telling people “Umm…wait for the patch!”. No really, he did!
Once again I am in an argument with extremely biased individuals that act like they’ve played a game that they haven’t.
It’s kind of disappointing guys, really.
Can we get some more people in here that have played both games extensively like myself?
Like Quinntan for example.
p.s It’s still GOTY
@ohwow: No it’s not. For me, it’s still ME2.
I felt ME2 was such a disappointment compared to the first one. I would’ve liked a lot more RPG elements from the first game.
ANYWAY, ‘trolling’ and bias aside, this is what I think regarding GT5 and Forza after extensive play with both:
Forza is better at:
Graphical consistency – The graphical high point of the games goes to GT5. The graphical low point of the games also goes to GT5, some of the standard cars are downright ugly as hell. It’s a good thing I’m playing the entire game in premium cars.
Damage modelling – Don’t think more needs to be said, GT5′s is really disappointing for a 2010 sim racer.
Customisation – Although GT5 has a nice course maker, Forza 3 wins here as well.
I only did a few races online in Forza and have yet to try online with GT5, so I can’t really judge there.
For everything else, I consider GT5 better and overall a superior game, based on the DRIVING experience alone. When using a good racing wheel like I did for both games, the experience with GT5 is simply amazing.
It’s my GOTY, and there’s my opinons.
@ohwow: Lucky you. I’m playing with the controller and, dear god, does it let the side down. It’s so much harder to control the throttle and brakes with the face buttons that it would be with the L2 and R2 ones. But those buttons are just not up to it. Your fingers keep slipping off them and it’s not comfortable at the best of times. That’s possibly the worst thing about the system, it feels old fashioned now compared to the 360 one.
Now with people speaking goty, I here’s what I personally enjoyed the hell out of this year:
Multiplayer= Battlefield Bad Company 2. While the likes of Red Dead, COD, and Reach have completly different experiences. Battlefields focus on teamplay is what sold me from the moment I started it (and it completely changed my MP mentality as well!).
Singleplayer= Between ME2 and RDR I would have to say RDR for the ending. Holy shit I didn’t see that coming!.
Racing= I haven’t played GT5 nor NFS: Hot Pursuit yet, but I have played Split/Second and I had a blast with it. So I can’t say which is better.
Most surprising good game that everyone will write off based upon who published and developed it= Fist of the North Star: Kens Rage. Sure all the reviews have said its basically Dynasty Warriors with the FotNS skin, which is half right. But there is acually a focused narrative for each of the characters for the game, a FFX way of leveling up your character(s) and is actually kinda of a hard game that provides a decent amount of challenge come the later stages.
These are only some of my picks.
RDR was great, Rockstar redeemed after GTA4 which I felt was really disappointing.
Another one of my favourites this year is Super Mario Galaxy 2.
The 360 and PS3 really lack quality platformers, it’s kinda disappointing
@ohwow
You don’t have the right to call any kettles biased Mr. Pot.
But regardless you said that GT5 was going to be GOTY not YOUR game of the year. Stop back peddling, you are going to break your bicycle if you keep it up.
I didn’t like RDR all that much, to be honest. Far too much faffing around, so I lost interest.
Stop being so angry erik, you know it’s going to win GOTY somewhere.
Gaygamer dot com’s GOTY confirmed!
This isn’t anger. It just isn’t going to happen. The very best you will be able to hope for is it being the “GOTY” for some obscure Nascar blog.
@erik, slimdefect: It’ll also porbably be Top Gear’s GOTY. I wonder why… :p
@slimdefect: Gotta love that homophobia. Classy!
Kazunori Yamauchi
Denis Dyack
Peter Douglas Molyneux
Know what those three developers have in common?
They’re all devs who made promises that they couldn’t keep!
@seven2s
Find me one major developer who has always kept every single promise they ever made about the game they were developing, and then I will give you that point. Until then, it’s a daft thing to be saying.
Is any1 else excited for Epic Mickey, or is it just me?
I’m keeping an eye on it, to see what it actually turns out to be.
@InfaredChimera
No.
Metacritic score – 84.
Sure, that’s a respectable score.
But all the Sony ponies said “It will be perfection”.
I love it!
SDF can’t spin this at ALL!
NPDs: Xbox 360 Sells 1.37 Million Units, Wii at 1.27 Million, PS3 at 530K
http://www.1up.com/news/npds-xbox-360-sells-137
Oh, it’s on…
http://www.1up.com/news/forza-motorsport-4-coming-fall
Just in case anyone wants to see what the article in question here translates into http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.famitsu.com%2Fnews%2F201011%2F08035343.html
It’s funny because it doesn’t mention anything about the sales between 360/Wii/PS3. As someone already mentioned, it’s about the history of gaming.
So it would seem there has been a lot of news floating around lately regarding Uncharted 3. I do intend to play it. But even now I know with 100% certainty and without exception or possible billion to one miracle that I will not like it.
Good for you erik, but no one asked.
I don’t recall stating if I cared if anyone asked.
It’s been a long time since I have been on this satirical site. Good to see it hasn’t lost it’s humor! GT 5 pales in comparison to Forza 3 and soon 4. It’s a non-seller, poor sales are predicted.
I did get the connect and my family and friends LOVE it. Wii has not been touched in months. Kinect Adventures and Sports are great. I am looking forward to an FPS with Kinect AND using a controller. That would rock. I tried the Move on my POS3, and its, um OK. I don’t like the nunchuck Phony made. Also, Kinect IMO is a better invest ment ($150) than Move ($130 for Move package and nunchuck). Yes, it’s $20 more but I don’t have to worry about two more controllers.
Kinect rocks, Move is meh, just like everything $ony sells.
2010 certainly wasn’t Sony’s year.
SDF couldn’t even be bothered to post a pitiful photoshop, or spin-job. That’s the dire straits they’re in right now.
It looks like even this failure of a site can no longer defend the money waste that is the P$3.
Yeah, the PS3 is such a hopeless turd, that not even the Ty-D-Bowl man can save it!
Sony PS3, it only does Nothing!
Identity Theft!
Offline!
Movies!
Did I miss any! Time for a class action law suit for not protecting our personal info!
Wow, they haven’t pulled the plug on this corpse of a failure site yet?
Haha… you know you’re crying inside erika.
What? Did you get tired of updating it?
We all know you’re the sole reason the site is still up.
But you’ve done a good job of updating it and also acting as the biggest troll to keep it alive.
Just die already.
You seem to think that I own this site. That just goes to show how much you are lacking in some very basic mental skills.
You still seem to be mad though that after I purchased my PS3 that I didn’t become a brain washed slave. Or are you pissy that you tried to be friendly to me after I bought my PS3?
